In the morning...
Royal concubine Amber's body seemed to be floating in mid air. Her mind was conscious but she was unable to move her body. Everywhere was pitch black and she could hear her very own heartbeat.
"Where am I?...Wait a minute...shouldn't I be dead?" she thought. She tried to shout but she couldn't even open her mouth. Just then, she saw a faint light above. The light got brighter and she felt herself being pulled into it until she was completely drawn into the light.
*Gasp*! Royal concubine Amber gasped for air as she opened her eyes. She immediately sat up on the bed, her forehead covered in sweat. Once she was able to calm her palpitating heart, she could finally think clearly.
"Uh, is this heaven?" she thought loudly but just then reality dawned on her. She's still alive!
"I'm alive?...But wait, this isn't my voice" she said as she realized that the silvery voice coming from her mouth wasn't hers, her very own voice was luscious. She took a look around the room she was in and became more puzzled. Didn't she die, how come her voice sounded so different and how in the world did she end up in this strange unfamiliar room!
She suddenly clutched her head as she felt a throbbing headache. Memories that were not hers started flowing in and she bit her lips to stop herself from screaming because of the pain. When the headache finally subside and the memories appeared to have come to an end, Amber could only stare ahead in a daze as she processed the whole situation in her mind.
It seemed that her soul had entered the body of a slave. The slave who also goes by the name, Amber worked for an old rich man. The man had tried on various occasions to take advantage of her and when she couldn't take it anymore, she ran away and started working in a restaurant as a maid. The man sent people to look for her and when she found out, she went straight to the man's wife and told her everything. The man's wife believed Amber and fought with her husband. The man got furious and sent people after her again but this time, he asked them to have their way with her and then kill her. Those people later found her. She tried her best to escape from them but they caught up to her. Even though they were not able to have their way with her, they stabbed her with a knife bringing about her demise.
When Amber's thought reached this point, she could only shake her head in pity for the slave. The slave's life was truly miserable. Even though Amber was happy that heavens had been merciful enough to give her a chance more, she still felt sad about the slave's death.
"I really hope your soul finds peace" Amber said solemnly. She stood up from the bed but her movement halted as her eyes suddenly caught something. Wasn't she supposed to be a slave, why is her dress so elegant! She saw a huge mirror at one corner of the room and walked towards it. She was momentarily stunned as she saw her reflection.
The lady in the mirror had a mesmerizing face. Her hazel eyes seemed to be sparkling. Her face was round and her pink lips were small. She was beautiful in a pure way. Even though she looked thin and unfed it couldn't hide her beauty. Now dressed in a pink gown, she looked like a cute little rabbit. No wonder the old man was obsessed with her.
Amber felt really pleased. Even though her beauty before was one of a kind, it was way too alluring.
'This pure beauty is way better' she thought.
Just then, there was a loud knock on the door which made Amber jerk back in surprise. She was so focused on admiring her beauty that the noise had frightened her.
"Uh, who's there?" she asked in her new silvery voice.
The woman outside was surprised. She had only knocked out of courtesy, she didn't expect that the lady would be awake.
"Miss, I'm here to serve your medicine" a woman's voice resounded from outside the door. Amber suddenly recalled something. That's right! A man had tried to save the slave from those evil men yesterday. The man must have brought her here. Amber really wished to see the man. She definitely would kneel at his feet and thank him sincerely for saving her. If he had left the slave in the forest, even if she had transmigrated into her body she would still have died once again.
"Oh, come in" Amber said as she walked back towards the bed and sat on it.The woman walked in with a tray in her hands. There was a small bowl of medicine on the tray. She placed the tray gently on a table beside the bed before speaking up;
"Miss, I had no idea that you'd already be awake. I checked on you about two hours ago and you were still unconscious. I'll bring something for you to eat right away. Is there anything you'd like?"
Amber was really surprised. Why was she being treated like a noble lady? Even when she was a royal concubine, apart from Rose, no one else had ever treated her so nicely. When she thought of Rose, her eyes couldn't help but tear up. She closed her eyes and took a couple of deep breaths to force back her tears. When she opened her eyes, she saw the woman looking at her worriedly. There was panic and concern in the woman's eyes as she stared at Amber's abdomen. Amber followed the woman's line of sight and she froze in shock when she saw the huge patch of blood on her cloth. She had almost forgotten that she was injured.
"Miss, your wound is bleeding again. Is the pain too much? Do you want me to call a doctor?" The woman said worriedly.
Amber's forehead was now covered in sweat. Her mind was preoccupied before so she had, for a moment, forgotten about the injury. But now that she noticed it, she felt like she was being stabbed again. The pain reminded her of the agony she felt while dying from poison and her face paled up. The woman thought she was in too much pain. She wanted to run out to get a doctor but Amber held her back.
"Just help me to change my wound's dressing" Amber managed to say. Even though the woman thought that calling a doctor would be better, she still complied with Amber's wish.
Luckily, the innkeeper had gotten Amber a few sets of clothes so she was able to change into a new one after her wound had been redressed. She lay on the bed while the woman sat on a chair beside her. When the pain finally lessened, Amber's big round eyes stared at the woman and she voiced out her mind.
"Do you have any idea who brought me here yesterday" she asked hopefully. The woman thought for a while before replying;
"Um, I heard that a masked man brought you to this inn. His face was covered by a piece of cloth so no one could tell how he looked"
Amber was a little disappointed. She was hoping to at least know how the man looked so that if she happened to meet him in the future, she would be able to recognize him and express her gratitude. She hid her disappointment and asked again;
"Also, why are you treating me so... specially?"
This time, the woman answered almost immediately;
"The man paid for everything. Your medicine, clothes, food and you can stay in the inn till you have fully recovered. I was also assigned to serve you because he asked for it" The woman said with a meaningful smile.
Amber nodded in understanding. Even though she knew the woman had probably misunderstood the relationship between her and the man, she chose not to explain anything.
'But what's there to misunderstand? A masked man brought an injured lady in, anyone should be able to tell that he probably saved her from a dangerous situation so what's with the weird smile the woman was giving her!' Amber thought as she glanced at the woman.
Amber waved away the thought. The woman can think whatever she wants. She, Amber doesn't care! She thanked the man again in her heart. It's rare to find such an amazing person. She decided to stay at the inn for a few days during which she would try to find a job, after all, she has a new life to live. Coming to this conclusion, her heart finally seemed less burdened.
Outside the window of room Amber was in, Glenn was hiding at one side. He wore a surprised expression as he thought about what he just heard.
'His majesty saved a lady and even brought her to an inn!' Glenn couldn't believe it. He shook his head as if to wave away his thoughts. Without wasting anymore time, he swiftly left the place.
Maxwell was practicing his archery while Glenn who stood behind him reported what he found out at the inn. "The lady had woken up and she seemed just fine. Also there was a woman with her who was taking care of her" Glenn said respectfully. "Hmm, okay" Maxwell simply stated. He has already done his own part so whatever happens to the lady from here on was none of his business. His non challant attitude shocked Glenn. 'Didn't His majesty ask me to check on the lady because he was worried about her, why did he sound like he doesn't care whether she lives or die' Glenn thought. Maxwell didn't tell him how he had met the lady and Glenn was as curious as a cat but he dared not ask Maxwell about it. "Your Majesty" Queen Emmelyn said as she curtsied. Maxwell was so focused on his archery that he didn't notice when Emmelyn got to his side. Even though he heard her greeting, he did not stop what he was doing neither did he respond to her. She took a walk along a path in the garden. This had become a habit of hers over the years. Her heart seemed to be at peace as she admired the flowers. On the night of the full moon, a woman in a red dress stood amidst the flowers. Her beauty was as dazzling as the moon and as radiant as the sun. Even the most beautiful of the flowers couldn't hold a candle to her beauty. A skin as fair as jade adorned in a red dress that fluttered in the wind; The sight was truly breathtaking. This was the otherworldly beauty of Royal concubine Amber. She stood by a pond in the garden. Her limpid azure eyes stared at the moon and a faint smile appeared on her heart shaped lips. She opened her mouth and said in a very relaxed manner; "Rose, if it hadn't been for my foolish act, you wouldn't have been stuck in the palace being bullied everyday by the Queen's maids. Do you detest me?" Rose stared at her lady's back and her eyes teared up. As she made to answer her lady's

He smiled at Maxwell and happily kept the money away. He was a man in his sixties and over the years he had seen many people come to this inn so he could tell at a glance that the man in front of him was no ordinary man. The innkeeper simply turned a blind eye to the blood on Maxwell's cloth, the unconscious lady on his back and his face that was covered. It was none of his business!
