The cool night air brushed against Amethyst's face as she walked back to her apartment. Even after she calmed down, she still couldn't help but feel pain in her chest. Each step felt heavier, laden with the weight of her recent confrontation. Amethyst felt that if she didn't hurry, something would happen. To distract her mind, she took out her phone and typed a message to Venna and Maureen, her fingers moving mechanically:

To: Bestie Ven; Bestie Mau;

Hey, I just wanted to let you know I made it home. I'm okay, really. You don't have to worry about me. Thanks for everything tonight. Good night."

Message sent!

When she saw that her message had been sent, she slipped her phone back into her pocket. The apartment building loomed ahead, a silent and lonely refuge. The place that knows her better, she feels, at this time, is further away than normal. As she unlocked her door and stepped inside, the familiar surroundings offered no comfort.
