Your typical fairy tale begins with "Once upon a time," followed by a princess being rescued by a knight in shining armor.

But not every story starts like that. Especially mine...

Now, let's go back to the beginning... or at least the beginning, I remember.

I always felt like something was different between my family and me. Whether you call it a sixth sense or kismet, I had an unshakable knowing that there was more to my existence. From what I remember, we had a wonderful life filled with smiles, hugs, and kisses. Little did I know, there was a dark secret lurking behind the façade, ready to shatter our family and alter the course of my life forever.

My father was the Alpha of the Shadow Borne Pack—the most prestigious and well-respected pack in all of Shadow Falls. I never considered him an Alpha; he was just my dad. He was my best friend and my protector.

My father was an Alpha by birth, whereas my mother was born an Omega. This is the lowest rank in any pack. It is common for Omegas to be enslaved in some packs, but we are not one of them. Father had strict rules about that sort of treatment. There is a rumor that he has ended alliances with other packs because they enslave Omegas.

The only thing I remember about my childhood is my mother always forcing me to wear dresses and always styling my hair differently.

"A princess must always be well-dressed and poised," she would say while brushing my hair. I look back now and laugh at how stupid I must have looked.

The only makeup Mom ever wore was mascara and eyeliner; she didn't need makeup if you ask me; she was a natural beauty. Her long black hair was always tied up in a low bun, leaving her ivory face untouched by stray strands...

At 5'2, she was petite, but had just enough in the right areas that Dad couldn't keep his hands off.

Standing next to Dad's six-foot frame, Mom looked like a dwarf. His flawless tan skin looked great in any color, even though he always wore black or blue. His black hair was always neatly combed, and his bright-green eyes sparkled whenever he saw me.

Father had this rule that I never understood, but it was the reason he was so respected. Aside from attending pack meetings, he trained alongside the warriors and never let his title of Alpha impose itself on him. He always told me, "Never let your title get to your head. Always remember where you came from".

My dad always took me to train with him and the warriors, but they never trained with me. I think they feared being reprimanded if I was injured.

Mom hated the fact that Father would train me. Training a child seemed unnecessary to her. "She is only five years old and a girl; she doesn't need to learn to fight," she would tell father.

"You should be out there with us, setting an example for the other she-wolves," he would say. Mom would roll her eyes, leaving us on our own.

By the time summer break started, Dad suddenly became ill. The pack doctors didn't know what caused his illness, nor what caused him to lose his fight.

I was fifteen the night he died He called me into his room that night. I walked in and saw him lying on his bed. I remembered him as a strong, confident individual. He looked nothing like him. The tan color on his face was gone, and a clammy white color had replaced it. His green eyes were filled with pain instead of life.

He had an IV running through his arm, giving him the needed medicine.

I sat beside him and gently squeezed his hand, so he knew I was there.

When he squeezed back, I gently lifted his hand and placed it on my cheek. "Daddy, I'm here," I said timidly.

His green eyes opened, and he smiled, "Babygirl, my time is ending, and I will not be with you anymore. You are exceptional, Arina. You have a gift that no one knows of... You must protect it." he said, taking a deep breath.

"I am afraid I won't be able to keep the promise I made years ago. Arina, there may come a time you may have to leave to protect yourself." he said, pausing briefly to take a deep breath, "If anyone finds out the truth, it could cause irreparable harm." he said, closing his eyes.

"Daddy, what are you talking about? W-what gift?" I asked.

I needed clarification on what he said. I thought it was the medication that made him say such things.

Opening his eyes again, he shed a tear and smiled. "You must remember my words and promise me you'll Run and head north. I wanted to tell you so much. I wanted to wait until you turned

eighteen, but the moon goddess has other plans. I have always loved you, Arina. I will always be with you." Those were his last words before he stopped breathing, his eyes closed, and his hand fell.

"DAD!" I yelled. "Daddy, wake up. Please. Don't leave me; I need you." I cried, "I promise I will do as you ask. I love you," I told him as I laid my head on his chest, hoping to hear his heartbeat.

At that moment, his home nurse rushed in. Her eyes stayed on the monitor momentarily before turning to me and telling me, "I am so sorry for your loss, Princess." She stepped away from the room.

That was the last time I saw my father and the last time my life was normal.

TWO YEARS LATER- "ARINA, YOU WORTHLESS STUPID GIRL!" my mother yelled at me from the top of the staircase. "Who told you that you could sleep? Look at the place; the kitchen is dirty, the laundry isn't folded or put away, and you still haven't made breakfast"! She yelled. "I'm sorry, Luna. I'll be there immediately." I replied timidly, wiping sleep from my eyes. I grabbed whatever clothes I could find: an oversized black shirt and ripped light blue jeans two sizes too big. I didn't have much to choose from these days. I only had leftovers from everyone's donations to local charities. Mother gave me whatever she thought was too big, ripped, or stained. Anything considered trash. My black waist-length hair was once full of life and shine, but now it was dull and lifeless. As a result of all the chem

From Alexandre's POV "Beep beep beep, my phone alarm sounds off, signaling 4 a.m., time for a run. Three years have passed since I last slept past 4 a.m. It was not easy to get used to the alarm, but now it is music to my ears. I was about to throw the cover off me when I felt something on my waist. I looked over to the right side of the bed and saw Jessica fast asleep, her arm lying on my abdomen. Her blonde hair covered her face as she slept next to me—a sad excuse for a woman so desperate and annoying. Wearing only a red-colored baby doll, she would do anything to get my attention in hopes of being Queen. If only she had just realized her sight disgusted me. She wasn't fit to be Queen. The thought of my mother's crown upon Jessica's head made my stomach twist. I tossed her arm off me and quickly jumped out of bed, heading straight for the bathroom, not even glancing back so as not to look at her if she woke. I quickly shut the bathroom door, changed into sweatpants, and headed f

From Alexandre's POV I was still hazy from my dream before Thiago woke me. However, there were more pressing matters, so I pushed the thoughts aside and focused my attention on the current situation. Omegas were typically quiet and kept to themselves. It was odd that someone suddenly would be attacked, let alone beaten to death. "Any suspects?" I asked as Thiago and I made our way up the driveway. "As of now, no, they think it was a rogue attack. Although, something about the attack is not right." Thiago replied. "What do you mean?" I asked, staring at him in confusion. "When have rogues used sticks to beat people and not finish the job?" he asked. He had a point: Rogues kill anyone they come into contact with. The last thing they do is leave an eyewitness to a brutal attack, so the mere fact that this girl was left to die is something not heard of. "Something is not right," I replied. As we approached the packhouse, I asked, "How is Luna Eleni?" When one's mate dies, the oth

From Arina's POV I opened my eyes to find myself in a white room. I glanced around and realized I was in the hospital. I had no memory of how or when I got here. I remembered only one thing: Rick yelled at my mother. I felt a sharp pain when I tried to turn on my side. My insides felt like they had been stabbed. Suddenly, I heard the monitor beep louder, signaling the nurse to come in. "Princess, please don't move; you'll tear the stitches," the nurse said as she walked toward the monitor and turned off the alarm. "PRINCESS". I mumbled as I glanced at her. No one has said those words to me in a long time. The only person that called me was the nurse assigned to my father. I looked up at her and was surprised that the nurse who had attended to my father that very night was now attending to me. Tears filled my eyes as the memory returned. "Are you alright? Does something hurt?" she asked with profound concern. "No, I'm fine, thank you," I told her, wiping my eyes. "Then why are

From Arina's POV I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Every word coming out of my mother's mouth was shocking. "Zeno's death is something we won't be able to contain if the word gets out. The King will come seeking answers. How can we explain the last three years?" she asked in panic. "Perhaps you should have thought about that before beating her half to death," Rick replied as he left the room. Suddenly, a knock came at the door, and I heard a familiar voice. "Please accept my apologies. I didn't know you were here." Nurse Calloway said, "I'll be back later." I was glad it was her. I wanted to ask her questions. I needed answers, and she had been assigned to care for my father in his final days, so I figured she might know something. "Nurse Calloway, I was sure you were off today, but no matter, I was leaving anyway. Carry on," Mother said as she left. "You can open your eyes, Princess; she is gone," Nurse Calloway said as she approached the side of the bed. I looked at her

From Alexandre’s POV The many files I still had to read had just been piled up on my desk, but I had no energy to read them. The information Thiago provided me regarding Luna Eleni seemed wrong. I pulled out my cell phone and looked through my contacts. I knew only one person could get me the answers I wanted. I just needed to make sure he could get them immediately. Time was of the essence. I quickly dialed the number and waited for them to pick it up. "Andre, what a surprise to hear from you. How are you?" A voice over the phone asked. "I am well, and yes, it has been too long for old friends like us not to speak. How is the family?" I responded. "They are doing well, but the boys are officially getting on my nerves. They can hardly be kept in one place with all the running around. I always wanted kids, but I swear if I ever find out who came up with that damn BABY SHARK song, I promise it will be the end of them!" he replied. I laughed in amusement at the thought of him hearin

From Arina's POV "Arina" I heard someone calling my name but couldn't see where they were. I was in a field somewhere. The sky was light blue, with no clouds in sight, and the flowers were different colors. There was a light breeze. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. "Arina" I opened my eyes and glanced around. There it was again, that soft voice, so magical. I started walking in the direction I thought it came from. I kept walking straight and went to a small forest. I was about to turn back when I heard it again. "Arina" "Who's there?" I called out. Although everything in me told me to turn around and head back, I couldn't. I needed to know who had called me. After taking a deep breath, I stepped into the forest. Peace was beyond words. It wasn't dark; it was beautiful and held an unimaginable sense of peace. My eyes were drawn to a small pond. My gaze was drawn to the water when I walked over to it. It wasn't long before I saw a pair of gold-colored eyes looking back at

Alexandre's POV Dealing with all this was a headache. If there was one thing I hated the most, it was drama among packs. It was a waste of time and energy that could be better spent focusing on more important matters. I always tried my best to avoid it, but sometimes it was impossible to get away from. I wanted a peaceful pack where everyone could work together in harmony. I wanted everyone to be able to trust each other and to cooperate. I wanted everyone to be able to rely on each other. "Wishful thinking," I said aloud as I turned my attention back to the files on my desk. Addressing complaints and obtaining financial approvals was Thiago's responsibility under normal circumstances. However, since I had him digging into Eleni, I was now left with the task. I had just opened a file when a knock came knocking at the door. "Come in," I said, not bothering to look up from the file. "Andre," Thiago said as he entered my office. I glanced up at him briefly and nodded in acknowledgme

  • Rising From the Ashes of Her Past ( A Lunas Tale)   Chapter 59

From Arina's POV In the days that followed the meeting with Alpha Jax, or Grandfather as he would have me call him, we settled into the Running River pack quietly, well except Kiara as she kept tormenting everyone, taking their shoes and making a mess in the kitchen when she was fed, but regardless of whatever she did for some reason everyone loved her. Alpha Jax even stole her once and took a nap with her. He swears that he never did such a thing and that she had snuck into his room. Alexandre and I had not seen each other since we arrived. He spent all his time with Alpha Jax discussing everything we knew about Eleni, and then there was the Lycan Blood Pack that also required his attention. Thiago spent his time training with the warriors, saying, "I need to get better prepared for this epic battle that is coming." Of course, he still kept his sense of humor. I was just about to sit and relax on the back patio when I saw my dad approaching. "Hello, Arina," he said, sitting next

  • Rising From the Ashes of Her Past ( A Lunas Tale)   Chapter 58

From Arina's POV I was nervous. I had no idea what to expect. The most terrible thoughts ran through my mind as we drove to the Running River Pack. Alpha Jax sent two cars, as he instructed; my father and I rode together while Alexandre and Thiago rode in the other car. "Relax, Arina; we are sure to be fine. Nothing terrible will happen; if anything, this is a positive thing," Zakara said as she pranced around in my head. For her, this was something extraordinary, but for me, this was uncharted territory, not to mention this was also my mother's pack we were going to, which had me even more on edge. I shifted in my seat, feeling uncomfortable. "Is everything okay with you?" My father's voice brought me out of my thoughts, and I smiled at him. "Dad, when were you here last?" I asked. With a heavy heart, he patted my head and smiled, "The last time I was here was the day I promised your mother I would return for her." I hugged him tightly, and tears started flowing down my face. We

From Alexandre’s POV As I let the hot water wash away the stress that had accumulated from the night's events, I could only think about what Arina had told us last night. I was shocked by her words, "Eleni is here." How could she have known? No one outside of my parents knew of the plan. I racked my brain, thinking about how she might have found out but kept coming up with nothing. Her claims left me dumbfounded, and no amount of hot water could rid me of the confusion and questions that filled my mind. Due to my loss of focus, I didn't notice when Arina walked through the shower door. I felt tingles running throughout my entire body as her hands caressed the small of my back. My eyes were drawn to her naked body under the water. Taking in the sight of her perfect breast, I let out a low growl as I moved closer, pressing my body against hers. I gently kissed her neck and felt her shudder in response. Our breathing quickened as we embraced each other, the water cascading over us. I fe

From Alexandre's POV During the flight to Sicily, I only thought of my parents. I knew they would hold Aella's funeral in a few hours. Goddess how much I missed her taunting voice. I was overjoyed when she came home because I knew she had been waiting so long to leave that place. Initially, Father sent her to school to study her gifts, but after one semester, she was fed up and decided to venture out independently. Having worked and built her powers alone, she returned home to find that our parents had already left, and I had taken the throne. I was so proud to see how far she had come. Even if I didn't spend much time with her, I knew she would have been a force to be reckoned with. I wanted to honor her legacy and keep her memory alive in some way. After twelve hours of flying, I was ready for some much-needed rest. The hotel was our first stop after getting off the plane. On arrival, we headed to pick up our rental. I notified the Alpha of the main pack that we would be arriving

From Arina's POV It had been two days since we discussed leaving for Sicily. All of the arrangements had been made to accommodate Alexandre, Thiago, my father, and myself. Having said goodbye to Leonidas and Penelope, we headed for the airport. I was sorry that we would be leaving them at a time when we should all be together for Aella's funeral, but they understood. Bryan and maribelle had returned to the Okami pack. Bryan had not seen his family since he began helping me, so I knew he was happy to spend time with them. He vowed to bring them all back to Lycan Blood Pack after we returned. Alexandre hated the idea of me bringing Kiara along. However, I couldn't leave my beloved Frenchie behind, so I made sure the hotel could accommodate room for her. As our flight boarded at five am, we needed to leave early enough to get through security. To draw less attention from anyone or anything, Alexandre decided to fly commercial instead of taking one of his jets. The phoenixes followed

I stared at all the Phoenix on the front lawn. Different colors, different sizes, but with the same goal in mind: to protect me and to be here for me. I felt a sense of comfort and safety just looking at them. I knew that no matter what I faced, they would be there for me, a loyal companion through life. I was grateful for their presence. But I was also worried about them. Everyone knew that a Phoenix would burn itself and be reborn after some time, but the thought of losing them in battle was still heartbreaking. Alexandre was just as shocked as I was when he saw them. "What are we supposed to do with so many?" Thiago asked. Alexandre shrugged off his shoulders. Unable to form a coherent sentence I turned to him. "Do we need to go to Sicily?" I blurted out. He turned to me with confusion on his face. "What do you mean?" he asked. I explained that Zakara had mentioned that the answers we sought were there. "We have to be there before the next full moon," I said. I braced for his r

I sat up and stared into the trees. I watched as the red eyes glared at us, "Do you see it?" I asked Alexandre my eyes never leaving those of whatever was out there, when Alexandre stepped forward and said, "Come out Jessica?" he said, leaving me speechless. Jessica stepped out of the trees. Her lycan fur was light gray with a white stripe down her face and her red eyes never left me. I stared at her in shock. I had no idea how she got here or why she was here. She stepped forward and opened her mouth, but before she could say anything, I found my voice and asked her "What are you doing here?" She stopped and looked at me, her red eyes burning into me. She smiled, but there was something off about it. She said nothing and slowly turned to face Alexandre. "What do you want?" he asked sharply, his voice holding a hint of warning. There was a sudden chill in the air, and for a moment I felt as if I had stepped into a dream. Jessica shifted back to her human form, standing in front of

  • Rising From the Ashes of Her Past ( A Lunas Tale)   Chapter 52

From Arina's POV We planned on having the ceremony within two weeks' time. This would give everyone enough time to compose themselves and enough time to get informed of the entire kingdom of the Lycan Princess's death. Penelope decided to hire someone to do the catering and decor as she was not up to doing it herself. Once we settled on the day and time, Leonidas and Penelope returned back to their room. Bryan and maribelle stayed away this morning allowing the former King and Queen space. Thiago had not been seen since we arrived, so he too decided to give everyone space. My father had walked up to his room. He was silent the entire time and I knew he could relate to their loss having died himself. Alexandre and I decided to head out for our run, as we walked outside the three phoenixes waddled behind me the moment we stepped outside they took off into the air. Their wings were magnificent, and I had no idea what other mythical creatures would arise but I was excited to find out. Ki
