SILENCE FILLED the conversation as the man in front of August wasn’t able to speak. His lips were parted and his eyes were full of amusement, surprise, and mockery at the same time.

Watching August fight with one of his bodyguards earlier made him amazed. Still, his skills were incomparable when it comes to him.

“Are you sure about that?” the man asked as he stood properly and placed both his hands in his pocket. “I might beat you into a pulp.”

‘He’s annoyingly confident,’ August said at the back of his mind as he stared at the man in front of him. ‘I wanted to smash that sly smile of his.’

They almost had the same height— but not the same build. The man looked more experienced and muscular than him.

“I’m not sure,” August answered, slightly sarcastic, and snapped his neck. “Would you like to try?”

“The name’s Mateo,” the man corrected him as he raised a brow. “And sure. If you insist, then.”

The preparation didn’t last long. After a while, both of them were standing on the training g

AS AUGUST heard that statement, his brows immediately furrowed as confusion consumed him. He wanted to know first who was the guy behind him, and on who he was pertaining to. He wanted to turn his head but he couldn’t. Mateo’s punch on his stomach hurt him, big time. He would need another minute to calm down. “Young master.” Mateo immediately stood in front of August and bowed his head as a sign of greeting. ‘Young master? Is he the one who instructed August to attack me?’ August asked at the back of his mind. He tried moving but it was to no avail. Mateo was surely a skilled fighter. He didn’t beat him up with multiple punches— but it was those punches hitting on his core, making him stumble on the floor, growling. “I think you have beaten him just enough so he would listen to me,” the man said in an intimidating tone like he wasn’t talking to Mateo— but to him. ‘Fuck.’ August could only curse at the back of his mind. His neck went stiff, the same as his body. He knew that some

“SAPPHIRE,” Harvey mumbled, gritting his teeth in annoyance as he snapped his neck, trying to calm himself down. It was Sapphire Remington who dared to interrupt him from hurting August, and also the one who threw the dagger to stab his right-hand man. He closed his eyes for a while and did three deep breaths before he looked at Sapphire. Sapphire, on the other hand, felt the opposite of annoyance— enjoyment. Her eyes flickered between Harvey and Mateo, and a wicked smile appeared on her lips as she noticed how Mateo flinched in pain because of what she did.“Why are you here?” Harvey asked. Still, annoyance was evident in his voice.“Uh, because this is my house?” Sapphire answered sarcastically as a smirk escaped from her lips. Both her hands were crossed onto her chest as she raised a brow. “And I was just looking for a place where I could rest. I didn’t even know that something was going on here.”Of course, it was a lie.And of course, Harvey wasn’t stupid to know it.‘Liar

“YOU DISRESPECTFUL and ungrateful child! Don’t you have any manners on how to be a good visitor when you’re in someone’s house? Did Sherry teach you that way?!” Charles scolded Harvey, who held onto his right cheek as his skin felt stung. "No, dad—" Harvey was about to explain, but Charles continued interrupting him. "Do you think I wouldn't know what you did to August?!" Charles was mad, and it was evident in his expression and his voice as well. "Do you take me as a fool?! Imbecile!" And in another second, Charles slapped Harvey on the left cheek this time. Harvey gasped as he felt how strong the force was on Charles' hand. He wanted to say something but decided not to speak as Charles gave him a deadly gaze. "It's not like that—" Harvey's explanation stopped mid-way when he realized something. "Why are you taking that bastard's side over me, dad?" "Bastard?" Charles' grip on his crane tightened. "Be careful with your words, Harvey. Or I might remove all your wealth right now."

“YOU SMELL good.”Bruce and Samantha were lying on the king-sized white bed while watching an erotic movie. Samantha didn’t like the movie that much, but she liked the fact that Bruce’s hand was slowly entering her nightgown, caressing her right breast with his palm.“Oh,” Samantha mumbled as Bruce’s face leaned onto her neck, and after a while, she felt Bruce lick her skin— slowly and passionately as he gave him small love bites.Samantha arched her back in pleasure. Bruce’s hands started to roam around her body. She knew where their make-out would go, given the movie that was playing in the background. She was willing to give herself all over again as Bruce was also ready to give his wealth in exchange.Yet, a loud phone call disturbed their almost hot, steamy night.“Fuck.”Bruce, who was also in the momentum of giving Samantha a hard bang, groaned in annoyance as he stood up and got his phone on the side table to check who was calling him this late at night.“Could you please not

TOMORROW MORNING, Bruce and Samantha were in a shopping mall. Samantha roamed around the stores looking for a bag since Bruce promised him to get her one. They were happily shopping together like Bruce didn’t shout at her yesterday.Well, she decided to forgive him quickly, even without an apology, because of the bag that he’ll buy for her.Samantha wasn’t picky when it comes to bags— in fact, she loved everything. But the event that they were going to the next month was something she couldn’t take easily. It was like a reunion for all the rich people within the top eleven to top fifty, and since the Sandoval family was in the top fifty, they were invited to the party, and Bruce would let her join as his fiance.“This looks good,” Samantha told Bruce who had his hands in his pocket while roaming the place. They were now in a Gucci department store. Samantha pointed at the black bag which was covered by a squared glass and imagined that she was holding it in her hands. She smiled in

“AUGUST?!” Samantha shouted in shock as she almost stumbled on the floor. Gladly, Bruce was behind her, acting all pretentious and sweet in front of the two salesladies, as he held onto her back to prevent her from falling. Her jaws almost fell on the floor as she couldn’t believe who was the guy the saleslady pointed at earlier. At first, she wasn’t able to recognize August because his facial appearance, and also his body build, changed a lot. He wasn’t like the August she knew back then. But she recognized the cap he was wearing. ‘It was the cap I gave him on his birthday,’ Samantha thought as she blinked twice. She felt something poked into her heart as August still cherished the gifts she had been given to him, although it wasn’t sincere. Those are the things Bruce didn't do to her when they became engaged. Bruce only wanted her body, and she only wanted his wealth. It may be painful to Samantha, but she knew that she just needed to endure, and everything will be fine. “S

“THE CARD was named after him…” Mina trailed off as her eyes flickered between Bruce, Samantha, and Triana— which all were giving a deadly gaze at her. Mina doesn’t have any characteristics to judge someone based on their appearance. However, as a part of the protocol, and since August was going to buy the most expensive bag, she needed to do a fact check. And with that, she realized that it was impossible for the card to be stolen if it was named after August in the first place. “Impossible!” Bruce exclaimed as Mina’s words made his blood boil. “An ordinary man like him couldn’t even have the right to touch a black card like this!” Without permission, Bruce grabbed the black card from Mina’s hand. He looked at it with frustration, because August had an expensive card like that, and amusement because it was his first time to see such a luxurious card that costs millions of dollars, at least. “Are you sure that it’s his, Mina?” Triana answered back. She crossed her arms and raised

LITTLE DID everyone knows, the Remington Corporation was the major shareholder in this store, and Charles named the shares under August. He could even not pay for the bags if he wanted to. However, Charles gave him a black card that he could spend because of the major improvements he had in his first training. Besides that, he doesn’t want to showcase to everyone about his newly owned company. August dialed his phone and called someone. For August, women like Triana make the world worse— people who base their kindness on someone’s worth were worthless themselves. They were the reason why people try hard to be worthy even though their existence was already worthy from the start. “Hello?” August greeted as the person on the other line answered. His glance flickered on Bruce and Samantha before he spoke. “Are you busy? Can you do a little favor for me?” “Anything for the Remington family, young master,” Zeke, who was currently at a business meeting, responded. “What is it?” Zeke, w

TWO YEARS LATER…The waves on the water splash on the yacht where August was standing right now. Both his hands were holding onto the rail as his gaze fixated on the sunset in front of him. It was beautiful, ethereal, and breathtaking… Just like the woman who was walking toward him.“August,” Daphne called her as she gave her husband a fruit shake. “You’ve been there for an hour already. Would you want to spend this day with fish than me?” she asked, pretending to be pissed as her lips curved into a smile.“No need to be jealous of nature, my dear wife. I just want to appreciate how beautiful the sunset was.”August laughed, pulling Daphne gently closer to him using his other hand. Now, both of them were staring at the sunset with genuine smiles plastered onto their faces. August’s hand was resting on Daphne’s waist, while the latter had her head leaned on her husband’s shoulder.A year ago, both of them got remarried, for real this time. At that moment, both of them couldn’t help bu

COUPLE DAYS later, August was able to heal from the beating he had endured when Raquel took him down. He was now as good as hell, and he could now work tirelessly to catch up with all of the deadlines and meetings he had neglected while he was at rest. Fortunately, the press, with a lot of help from Daphne, didn’t know a thing about what happened to August, or else he would be bombarded by the press in front of the Remington Corporation. However, it would not be for long, as something grand would happen now. August had been waiting for this day—The day when the final showdown begins. This day had come down to this moment, where the tables would turn, and justice would finally be served. This time, August made sure that Francis would not be able to run away from his crimes, nor frame someone up to escape from it. Inside August’s office, all of his allies, Daphne, Sapphire, and Maxine, were inside the room. The air was thick with tension as they were looking at the wall clock from ti

RAQUEL, at that moment, was too stunned to speak. Shivers sent down his spine as the unexpected news lingered in his mind. His shoulder was aching because of the pain, but suddenly, it became numb as the pain struck his heart.“W-What?” Raquel asked, blinking his eyes twice. “Are you… fooling me?”“No… It’s the truth.” Sapphire shook her head, the pain registering through her rounded, brown eyes. “We’re Maxine’s children—Her lost twins.”“But how?” Raquel’s brows furrowed in confusion and annoyance at the same time. “If she is my brother, and you’re my twin, and you knew everything about it… Then why didn’t you approach me?”“Maxine only knew it recently, the same as mine.” Sapphire heaved a sigh and bit her lower lip afterward to contain her emotions. After a few seconds, she spoke again.“August informed me recently by giving the birth certificates Master Charles hid in his cabinet. It turns out that Maxine didn’t want to know us at that time because of the complexity of her job… Sh

AUGUST WAS in a daze when he woke up from his not-so-peaceful slumber. He didn’t wake up naturally, but he woke up when someone poured him cold water placed in a bucket, causing August to jolt in shock… Only to realize that he was tied to the chair.Same situation. Same abandoned room.Shivers sent down his spine because of the uncanny coincidence both of the situations had.‘Fucking shit. This is déjà vu,’ said August at the back of his mind when he realized that this is where everything started—When Charles had his people take him so he could have a one-on-one talk with August about being a pretend heir. However, the only difference between the event before and now, is that the person in front of him looked like he was eager to kill him in an instant, but he was just taking his time to do it.“R-Raquel…” August mumbled, slightly stammering, as his gaze fixated on Raquel.“How’s your sleep, August?” Raquel threw the silver bucket on the floor in force while wearing his most sardonic

However, a few seconds had passed, and he still read the same name.“H-How…” August was at a loss for words. It wasn’t something that he expected. He almost thought that it was Francis, but turns out that the lead scientist is Richard, the Wellington family’s original heir.“Are there—”“Greetings, Sir August.”August was about to ask the lead engineer if he found more documents other than the white folder he was holding now, but his words went midway as three cleaners who were wearing personal protective equipment suddenly bowed in front of him.“One of your employees called us to clean this room,” one of the cleaners said as she glanced at the mess August made earlier.“A-Ah. Right.”August only nodded at them, not knowing what to say. His mind was so shocked that he didn’t even notice his employees leaving him alone in the ro

TWO WEEKS LATER, the event about Bruce being confined to the Remington Mental Hospital scattered around the country. According to the doctors, Bruce was diagnosed with Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and he would need long-term medication and treatment to heal. While some people sympathized with Bruce for it, some people say that it was karma because of what he had done to August. However, August didn’t care what those people think about now. He wasn’t eating his lunch yet but he was determined to finish everything first. Daphne, who was immersed in watching the news, jolted in shock as she turned around, only to see August smiling at her.“I’m home,” said August in a sweet tone as he extended both his arms, asking for a hug.Daphne couldn’t help but laugh a little. She went toward August and wrapped him in her embrace. “How was it? “WHERE DID you go? Why do you look like shit?” Nicole asked as Bruce went inside the room, all his clothes were soaked because of the rain. “Take a bath first before you go to the dining table. Samantha was already out of the picture as his parents were also informed of what she did earlier. However, they weren’t aware that Bruce felt hurt because of the same reason. “Did you chase that bitch away?” Jake asked while they were eating. “Y-Yes, Father.” “That’s good,” Jake commented, and Bruce only smiled subtly in response.
