The echoes of the battle linger in the woods as Talon and I press forward, riding in silence. The heavyweight of our recent encounter with the rogues sitting on my shoulders, but there is an unexpected warmth growing within me. The wolves who came to our aid had moved with unity and precision that speaks loyalty, whether to us or some other purpose remains to be seen. But for the first time in weeks, I feel a glimmer of hope and I will explore this feeling.

“Talon,” I murmur, my voice soft, “Do you think they can be allies, or just…rogues who happened to be there?

Talon’s jaw tightens as he looks ahead, eyes narrowing. “I don’t know. But we’re going to find out soon. Moonstone doesn’t need an alliance.”

“Moonstone could use an alliance, they can be useful, don’t you think so?” I press on.

But seeing that Talon isn’t welcoming the topic, I just nod. Despite the pain in my muscles and the exhaustion weighing down on me, I feel a renewed sense of determination. I have fought hard to

No,” Talon growls, his voice echoing with the raw strength of his Alpha status. But it is too late, the enforcers are already upon us, their hands grabbing my arms, their hold iron-tight. “No!” I shout the bond we share thrumming with urgency and rage. Talon fights, his movements a blur of raw power and primal determination. He strikes out at the enforcers, his claws slicing through the air, but the numbers are against us. “Phoenix!” Talon roars, his voice desperate, but the enforcers are relentless. They pull me away from him, my feet dragging against the cold, hard floor of the chamber. I fight, kicking and screaming, but the more I struggle, the tighter their hold becomes. My eyes meet Talon’s, and I see the anguish there, his fury mirroring mine. Tears burn in my eyes as I am pulled further away, but I hold on to his gaze. My heart is screaming for him, for our bond, for our strength together. And as they carry me out, I know this is going to be a long ride. The counci

The council chamber trembles with the clash of snarls and heavy thud of wolves colliding. Talon and I have shifted into our wolf forms, each of us being fueled by raw instinct as we fight to escape the Council’s grasp. The Elders stand in a tight circle at the far end of the room, their faces a mixture of disdain and cold determination. This isn’t just a wolf, not entirely. It is something monstrous, its fur is black, eyes glow crimson. The power rolling off it is suffocating, its presence exuding violence and control. Talon growls low, his hackles rising as he steps protectively in front of me. “He feels it too,” I realize. This isn’t just another fight. This is something created to destroy. The argument we had moments ago is still ringing in my ears, their clipped words echo like a curse. They have condemned me for the power I carry as the golden wolf, and their threats to test me were nearly thin-veiled executions. Talon had argued on my behalf, demanding they see reasons. But

PHOENIX My eyes flutter open to darkness, the air around me cold and damp. I am lying on a hard surface—stone, rough and unyielding beneath my back. I try to move, but the clink of metals stops me, Chains. Heavy, cold chains wrap around my wrists and ankles, pinning me in place. Panic flares, but I force myself to breathe. I shift slightly, testing the bonds, but they don’t budge. Talia stirs weakly within me, her strength subdued by whatever dampening magic the Council had used.I scan my surroundings, my vision adjusting to the dim light filtering in from a single torch mounted on the wall. The cage is small and crude, its bars thick and unyielding. The air is heavy with the scent of rust and something acrid, like the residue of spells. Where is Talon?“Talon? Talon?” I call, my voice hoarse. The silence that followed made my heart clench, but then I heard it, a faint sound, a little distant but unmistakable.“Phoenix?” His voice is rough, but the relief in it is clear. “Talon!”

The burning heat of the poison coursed through me, leaving my body weak and trembling. Talia howls within, her voice distant but resolute. Every muscle screaming in protest, and for a moment, I thought this was it—that the Council had succeeded in their twisted plans to break me. But something begins to shift. The pain ebbs slowly, replaced by a soft, glowing warmth. It’s radiating from my core, and spreading outward like golden light, soothing the ache and extinguishing the venom in my veins. My wolf stirs, her strength returning in waves. The golden wolf, her power is fighting back, stronger than I’ve ever felt before. I gasp, and the taste of fresh air fills my lungs as clarity returns. Then a memory surfaced, Hosea’s voice ringing clear in my mind. “The power is unlike anything else. It can sense danger, Phoenix. It won’t let you fall easily, it will protect you, even from yourself.” She was right. My wolf’s power isn’t just a weapon. It is a shield, one that refuses to let me

TALONThe forest is alive with chaos, the sound of claws against claws and growls echo all around. Phoenix and I fight side by side, our wolves tearing through the enforcers with a ferocity that comes from sheer desperation. An enforcer lunges at me, teeth bared, but I sidestepped, slamming my fur into his chest and sending him sprawling into the underbrush. Another came at Phoenix, but her wolf moved like lightning, claws raking across his flank before she turned on the next attacker.Despite the intensity of the fight. I notice something, something feels off. These wolves aren’t trying to kill us, they are too calculated for that. Each strike seems designed to push us; to test our limits rather than harm us. “Phoenix!” I call out, dodging another swipe. “They are not trying to kill us. They are just testing us.”She doesn’t respond, too locked in her battle to acknowledge my observation. Her wolf gleams under the moonlight, every movement powerful and precise. But even she seems to

DYLANDylan trudges through the dark woods, his footsteps heavy as he approaches the Raven Night Pack’s main compound. The moonlight barely penetrates the thick canopy above, casting shadows that mirror the storm brewing in his mind. Phoenix. The name keeps echoing in his head like a haunting melody. He clenched his fists, his jaw tight as he replayed the confrontation in the clearing. Seeing her again rattled him in ways he couldn’t admit, even to himself. When he crosses into the pack’s territory, a few guards nod respectfully, but he barely acknowledges them. His wolf is restless, pacing within him, its frustration mirroring his own. He made his way to his cabin at the edge of the compound, slamming the door shut behind him before collapsing into the leather armchair lying by the window. For a long moment, I sit in silence, staring into the darkness outside. Then the thoughts begin to spiral. “Phoenix. The golden wolf.”He scoffs under his breath, and a bitter smile tugs at his

The Silvercrest Lair looms before me as I approach, it’s stone walls impose against the backdrop of a fading morning sky. This conversation with Alpha Roland isn’t one I wanted to have, but it is very necessary. When the guards usher me into the Alpha’s office, I square my shoulders and fix my expression into one of determination. Alpha Roland is sitting behind a massive oak desk, his piercing eyes as cold as I remember.“Dylan,” Roland greets, his voice clipped and formal. “To what do owe this unusual visit? I thought we finished our business a long time ago.”I incline my head respectfully, suppressing my irritation at the older wolf’s icy carriage. “Alpha Roland, I’m here to discuss Phoenix.”Roland’s expression hardens at the mention of her name. His fingers drum against the desk, his lips press into a thin line. “Phoenix is no longer a part of my pack. Whatever she’s done, or wherever she is now is none of my business.”“But it should be,” I press, stepping closer. “She’s the gol

PHOENIXThe air in the dimly lit room is damp, and the walls around me close in like a suffocating shroud. My wrists ache from the rough ropes that bind them, and my legs, though free, are too weak to move. I sit on the cold stone floor, leaning against the wall as I stare at the small barred window above me. The faint sunlight barely seeps through, leaving most of the room shrouded in shadows. I can't stop my thoughts from spiraling. How has everything fallen apart so quickly? One moment, I was at the border, hoping to handle the supposed rogue attack, and the next, I was ambushed by hunters. The memory of their cruel, gruesome discussions still lingers in my mind, sending shivers down my spine. They spoke about using me, the golden wolf, as some sort of tool for their twisted purposes. I can still hear their laughter and vile remarks, their plans to break me, exploit my powers, and turn me into their trophy. And then, he had showed up. Dylan. I can't comprehend the emotions swir

I had to seek the forbidden, dark magic that would grant me strength beyond any ordinary wolf. Anything wrong move would cost me my life but I didn't care. I have timed my attack perfectly. How can this happen?? How has she slipped unnoticed? “Talon.” Mira’s voice cut through the haze of my thoughts as she stepped closer. Her usual calm demeanor is replaced by a mix of guilt and worry. “I did not see anything. PHOENIXI received critical news from the messenger, rogues are preparing an invasion along the northern border. I can feel the enforcer's stress as he implores me to come right away in hurried, rambling phrases. Anxiety quickly flares in my chest. I believe that we dealt with the prior attacks as well as the rogues and the strengthened alliances. I scan the training area for Talon, but he is deep in a sparring session, showing the fighters his more sophisticated moves. His focus is constant, and his commands are sharp. He already has too much on his plate, so I don't want to bother him. Furthermore, it cannot wait in the event of an imminent rogue attack.I give the enforcer a nod while maintaining a stern tone of voice despite the shivers running up my spine. I say, "Show me where." He guides me into the woodland at a quick yet cautious pace. The rustle of leaves beneath the floor is the only sound to break the oppressive quiet between us. The farther we left the area, t

TALONI’m standing at the edge of the training grounds, my eyes diligently scanning the crowd of warriors as they spar and practice. The sun has begun its descent, casting golden hues across the clearing, but my mind is elsewhere. My wolf has been restless all afternoon, he keeps stirring uneasily and pacing within like a caged animal. “Something is wrong, Talon. She’s not here.” Lucas growls, his tone sharp and full of urgency.I frown, trying to shake off the strange sense of unease that has been clawing me even before today. I have just returned from the pack house, after overseeing the sparring battle. Normally, I would dismiss Lucas’s anxiety as part of his protective instincts, but this time, it feels different and heavier. “Where could she be?” I mutter under my breath, my gaze sweeping the training grounds once more. The air in Moonstone territory is crisp and cool, and the faint scent of the forest and dew settle over the pack grounds. It is another training day, one of the many sparring sessions we usually hold to keep our warriors sharp. And for some unknown reasons, Talon has been pushing the pack harder and ever, ensuring that they are always prepared for anything that might come their way. Even though his leadership has been steady and unwavering, today, I have a different plan, one that requires all my patience and cunning. I stand off to the side, my gaze lingering on Talon as he commands the pack in their drills. His posture is perfect, his movements sharp. The warriors are moving in perfect synchronization, their bodies as fluid as they spare. I have to admit, Talon has always been the impressive Alpha to the pack and there’s no doubt on their end. But that’s why I am here, I will do everything to change that. I have to find a way to distract him and divert his attention for my plan to
