As we walk away from the border, the veil pulses faintly behind us, its presence a silent promise that it will stand strong as long as we do. And right there and now, I knew deep inside of me, that no matter whatever challenges lay ahead and whatever I’ve feared this long. I will do everything in my power to protect this land, the moonstone pack, and this woman walking beside me.

“Does it ever feel suffocating?” Phoenix asks, her gaze fixed on the horizon.

“What do you mean?” I ask

“I mean, the border,” she says. “How does it feel to be surrounded by it? Knowing it’s there for a purpose.”

I consider her words, my hands resting on my hips as I look out at the tree line. “It doesn’t feel suffocating at all. As a matter of fact, as Alpha, I’m grateful at the very least for the protection, not confinement. Without the veil, we’d be vulnerable to every threat that comes our way, like we witnessed the other day.”

“I wonder, though?” She pressed. “What’s beyond the veil? What is the Moon Go

The journey to Shadowpine council’s enclave was filled with tension. Even if Lucas, my wolf, urged calmness, my instincts are on edge. The air seems heavier the closer I get to their territory, thick with the weight of the council authority. I should be going with the subject matter, Phoenix but I fear they will try their best to seize her. I need to face them alone. The council’s territory is starkly different from my own. It’s wolf and vibrant, the elder’s land is steep in an eerie stillness. Trees towered line the path, their branches entwine like skeletal fingers. The protective wards surrounding their enclave prick against my senses, warning of their power. I step into the chamber, a massive stone hall, lit up by flickering torches. The council members are sitting in a half-circle, their faces shadowed and unreadable. Their silence is a tactic, meant to unnerve, but I refuse to falter. “Here he is, the Alpha Talon,” Elder Marcellus greet, his voice a blend of authority and co

Moonstone lair is a sacred place, one only a few in the pack are allowed access to. It is carved into the earth itself, deep beneath the heart of our territory, surrounded by roots that pulse faintly with the powerful energy of the land. This is where our history lives, etched into the stone walls in symbols and marks only an Alpha can decode. She followed me quietly down the narrow, winding staircase that leads to the lair. The torches casting a flickering glow on Phoenix’s golden features, making her look more like her wolf than her human self. Her gaze held so much anticipation, laced with curiosity, but no fear. “Why did you call me in? What is it you want to discuss?” She asks, her voice calm and steady. “There’s something I want to show you,” I say, without turning to her. When we got to the bottom, the lair opened up into a wide, hollow space. The air is cool, filled with the scent of earth and of ancient stone. The mark of my lineage…my ancestors are everywhere, engraved

Kael was being trained to be Alpha, I was trained in other ways. My parents wanted to nurture my supernatural abilities, to see how far they could take me. I spent hours meditating, learning to Channel energy, and connecting with the Veil in ways no one else could. Initially, it felt strange, like I was being set apart from the rest of the pack members. But as time went on, I grew to love it. It made me feel free because I felt I didn’t have to go through what Kael had to go through to become Alpha.“He sounds incredible,” Phoenix says, and I nod. “Yes. Kael’s destiny was to become Alpha. He bore the weight of our lineage, the one who was supposed to lead this pack into the future. I was meant to just support him, with my abilities. To strengthen his leadership and I was fine with that. Kael and I had an understanding, we were going to do just fine. We would have worked it out together, no matter our roles.”Our parents made sure Kael was adequately trained for his future role. His t

Talon’s voice hangs heavy in the air, his words brim with the weight of a past I could barely begin to imagine. The steady cadence of his tone, so controlled yet, is layered with vulnerability and it makes me frightened. I have always seen him as unshakable, a towering force of strength and authority. But right now, in the dim light of the lair, I see him fit what he truly is, someone who has carried unimaginable loss and responsibility for this long. I sit quietly, my golden eyes are fixed on his. Every word he speaks deepened my understanding of him, of the man who has chosen to fight for me, even against the council of elders. My mate. Talon has made his choice, now it’s my turn to decide.I notice a glimmer of uncertainty cross his face, as though he expected me to pull away. But I can’t do that to him, not even after everything I have just heard.“Talon, I’m so sorry for everything you’ve been through,” I say softly, breaking the silence between us.His eyes turned to me, search

I follow the enforcer to the howling ground, the area buzzing with raw energy as though the land itself is alive. I see Talon standing at the edge. I recount how he’s chosen me when it would have been easier not to. He even fought for me in the council of elders meeting, even if it meant developing a restrained relationship with them. I won’t pretend like I don’t see it, and I can feel that it means a lot to my wolf too. Our gaze met and his lips formed a faint smile, though I could still see through to the seriousness in his eyes. “Good you are here, we will begin now.” He says, in a low but firm tone. “Like I said, we will start here in this howling ground,” Talon says, his voice commanding. “This ground is steeped in the pack’s history, and its energy will help you with stability as you learn to wield your power.”I glance around, feeling the faint hum of the land under my feet. “So how do we begin?”Talon steps closer, his gaze locked in mine. “First, we will test your limits. The sun is high, and it’s tossing golden rays over the Moonstone pack training grounds. I stand in the center of the field, my body tense with uncertainty. All around me, the enforcers of the park circle like wolves sizing up their prey. The training had been intense, but nothing prepared me for the reality of this mock battle.Talon’s words echo in my mind. “This is the final stage. You’ve trained for this moment. Show them what you’re capable of, but don’t forget that control is everything. You’re not here to harm or be harmed, just prove that you can lead as Luna.”Talia stirs within me, her energy simmering just below the surface. “We are ready for this,” she growls, her confidence bolstering my own. The first enforcer lungs at me, a blur of fur and muscle. I dodge, and my body reacts instinctively as I sidestep his attack and land a precise blow to his flank, sending him sprawling to the ground. One down. The others didn’t hesitate. The lair is calmer than I expected, yet it carries an air of power and tradition that leaves me in awe. Gaining access into the lair and being with Talon closely feels like stepping into a new chapter of my life, one where every choice, every decision, carries a weight of purpose and responsibility. I am now Moonstone Pack’s Luna. A title I've never dreamed of holding, yet now it feels as though this is what I was made for. My first morning in the Lair begins with sunlight filtering through the tall windows, casting golden patterns on the stone walls. Talon had already risen because his side of the bed was empty but it felt warm. I can feel his presence through the bond, a comforting hum that assures me he isn't far, I find Talon in the training yard, sparring with Hosea. Watching him move with such accuracy and control is fascinating. Lucas, his wolf seems to come through his every motion, giving him strength and grace that is undeniable. The mating heat Is impossible to ignore now. It simmers beneath the surface every time I am near Phoenix, a magnetic pull that tests the limits of my self-control. At first, I thought I could suppress it. I tried to convince myself that the bond was a distraction I could manage. But each day that passes by proved me wrong. Phoenix isn’t oblivious to it either. Though she doesn’t say anything out rightly, I see it in her eyes, the way they linger a little too long when she thinks I’m not looking. The way her breath hitched when I moved closer. The way her wolf, Talia, would growl softly to Lucas whenever they cross paths. One evening, as we shifted back to our human form after a patrol at the border, the tension finally gave way. We walk into the Lair together. Phoenix looks at me, her golden eyes reflecting the light, and the heat flaring so intensely I feel Lucas stir inside. “Do you feel it too?” I ask, my voice was barely audible. Her gaze doesn’t waver. “Every moment I’m close t

Scents of roasted meat and toasted bread fill the air, mixed with the subtle tang of pine from the forest outside. The dining hall shines brightly as fire crackles in the hearth, casting flickering light across the majestic space. Moonstone pack had begun to settle back into their daily routine after the harrowing experience with the council of elders. Talon had managed to hold his anger in check for days, but it was growing more difficult with each passing moment. The peace they’ve been fighting hard to reclaim feels fragile, a thin layer of glass ready to shatter at any misstep. The buzz of recognition Phoenix is beginning to attract is both a gift and a burden. Packs from across Shadowpine have been sending messages of admiration and requests for the audience, all eager to see the fabled golden wolf, to experience the power they had only heard about in stories. Talon knew the power she wields is unmatched, a gift from the Moon Goddess herself, but with it comes danger. He had see

CAINBeta Cain is sitting in the darkened corner of his private chamber, the dim light from the single lantern casting long, flickering shadows across the stone walls. The Moonstone Pack had grown restless with their Alpha’s return and the unrelenting presence of his Luna. The chatter has picked up again, faint whispers, eager to tear at the fabric of their unity. Cain knows it is because of Phoenix, the golden wolf, the one who had brought back the aura of power that had been slipping through his fingers. He clenches his jaw, the muscles in his neck tightening. The pack members who had once listened to him, revered his voice now treat him as if he were a mere shadow of the man who once led them. It is all Phoenix’s fault. She brought Taon back, she brought a sense of purpose and strength back to the Moonstone pack, and she brought a threat, one Cain couldn’t ignore. He stands up and walks to the window, looking out over the moonlight forest that stretches out beyond the clearing. I

The fireplace crackled, and its orange glow cast jagged shadows on the walls, but it did little to help the chill that was sitting on her chest. Lucia is standing in the center of Dylan’s dimly lit liar, unspoken words and unmet expectations have made the air tense. Dylan is sitting in a carved chair, his eyes dark and guarded, a stark contrast to the man she loves.“Dylan,” she says, her voice low and steady, with a touch of desperation hidden beneath the surface, “we need to talk,”He doesn’t shift, and neither does he blink. A muscle twitched in his jaw, betraying the fight behind his composed mask. “I’m listening,” he says, his voice rough, clearly not pleased to see me. Lucia steps forward, the weight of the night pressing on her, urging her to confront Dylan. “I’m the one that has always been here, Dylan. LUCIALucia paced the length of her quarters, her fury simmering just beneath the surface. Dylan had stormed off after her confession, leaving her standing in the dim moonlight like a fool. Her hands trembling as she grips the back of a chair, her mind replaying the argument with Dylan earlier. It’s always her. Phoenix, Phoenix. She bite her lip hard, the metallic taste of blood grounding her. She’s done everything for him, sacrificing more than anyone knows. And yet, he is ready to throw her aside like she means nothing, all for a woman who had ruined everything. Lucia’s gaze darkens as she let the memories wash over her, pulling her back to the night it all began. It was the eve of Phoenix’s mating ceremony with Dylan. The Silvercrest Pack was buzzing with excitement, the halls of the estate was filled with laughter, the scent of roasted meat, and the sound of glasses clinking. Phoenix, as radiant as ever, was the center of attention, her bright eyes lit up the room. I stood on

The Silvercrest Lair looms before me as I approach, it’s stone walls impose against the backdrop of a fading morning sky. This conversation with Alpha Roland isn’t one I wanted to have, but it is very necessary. When the guards usher me into the Alpha’s office, I square my shoulders and fix my expression into one of determination. Alpha Roland is sitting behind a massive oak desk, his piercing eyes as cold as I remember.“Dylan,” Roland greets, his voice clipped and formal. “To what do owe this unusual visit? I thought we finished our business a long time ago.”I incline my head respectfully, suppressing my irritation at the older wolf’s icy carriage. “Alpha Roland, I’m here to discuss Phoenix.”Roland’s expression hardens at the mention of her name. His fingers drum against the desk, his lips press into a thin line. “Phoenix is no longer a part of my pack. Whatever she’s done, or wherever she is now is none of my business.”“But it should be,” I press, stepping closer. “She’s the gol

He clenched his fists, his jaw tight as he replayed the confrontation in the clearing. Seeing her again rattled him in ways he couldn’t admit, even to himself. When he crosses into the pack’s territory, a few guards nod respectfully, but he barely acknowledges them. His wolf is restless, pacing within him, its frustration mirroring his own. He made his way to his cabin at the edge of the compound, slamming the door shut behind him before collapsing into the leather armchair lying by the window. For a long moment, I sit in silence, staring into the darkness outside. Then the thoughts begin to spiral. “Phoenix. The golden wolf.”He scoffs under his breath, and a bitter smile tugs at his

TALONThe forest is alive with chaos, the sound of claws against claws and growls echo all around. Phoenix and I fight side by side, our wolves tearing through the enforcers with a ferocity that comes from sheer desperation. An enforcer lunges at me, teeth bared, but I sidestepped, slamming my fur into his chest and sending him sprawling into the underbrush. Another came at Phoenix, but her wolf moved like lightning, claws raking across his flank before she turned on the next attacker.Despite the intensity of the fight. I notice something, something feels off. These wolves aren’t trying to kill us, they are too calculated for that. Each strike seems designed to push us; to test our limits rather than harm us. “Phoenix!” I call out, dodging another swipe. “They are not trying to kill us. They are just testing us.”She doesn’t respond, too locked in her battle to acknowledge my observation. Her wolf gleams under the moonlight, every movement powerful and precise. But even she seems to

The burning heat of the poison coursed through me, leaving my body weak and trembling. Talia howls within, her voice distant but resolute. Every muscle screaming in protest, and for a moment, I thought this was it—that the Council had succeeded in their twisted plans to break me. But something begins to shift. The pain ebbs slowly, replaced by a soft, glowing warmth. It’s radiating from my core, and spreading outward like golden light, soothing the ache and extinguishing the venom in my veins. My wolf stirs, her strength returning in waves. The golden wolf, her power is fighting back, stronger than I’ve ever felt before. I gasp, and the taste of fresh air fills my lungs as clarity returns. Then a memory surfaced, Hosea’s voice ringing clear in my mind. “The power is unlike anything else. It can sense danger, Phoenix. It won’t let you fall easily, it will protect you, even from yourself.” She was right. My wolf’s power isn’t just a weapon. It is a shield, one that refuses to let me

PHOENIX My eyes flutter open to darkness, the air around me cold and damp. I am lying on a hard surface—stone, rough and unyielding beneath my back. I try to move, but the clink of metals stops me, Chains. Heavy, cold chains wrap around my wrists and ankles, pinning me in place. Panic flares, but I force myself to breathe. I shift slightly, testing the bonds, but they don’t budge. Talia stirs weakly within me, her strength subdued by whatever dampening magic the Council had used.I scan my surroundings, my vision adjusting to the dim light filtering in from a single torch mounted on the wall. The cage is small and crude, its bars thick and unyielding. The air is heavy with the scent of rust and something acrid, like the residue of spells. Where is Talon?“Talon? Talon?” I call, my voice hoarse. The silence that followed made my heart clench, but then I heard it, a faint sound, a little distant but unmistakable.“Phoenix?” His voice is rough, but the relief in it is clear. “Talon!”
