The four of them end up at the diner and Ford is sitting next to Dallas. He can feel the tension radiating off Dallas and he’s not really sure what to do about it.

Jae and Ellie seem to pick up on it too, so after they order, the two of them head off to the old timey jukebox to pick a song.

Ford scoots closer to Dallas and gently takes his hand. They’ve washed the blood off his knuckles, but there’s still bruises forming. “You didn’t have to do that,” Ford says gently, risking a glance up at Wade.

Dallas whips his face around to stare at Ford. “Yes, I did,” he says through gritted teeth. “I should have done a lot more.”

“Dallas,” Ford says, trying again. “He is an asshole. He’s not going to be less of one just because you smash his face in.”

Dallas works his jaw for a moment. “You don’t know that.”

Ford snorts and rubs Dallas’s forearm as soothingly as he can. “I guess I don’t,” he concedes, smiling softly. “W
