Samantha’s POV “You imbecile!” Laylani snapped and the next thing I knew, her palms connected with my cheeks, giving me a resounding slap that sent my ears ringing. I gasped as my hands went to my cheeks that stung from the impact of the slap. I looked at my mother-in-law, tears blurring my vision. “How could you be so clueless?” She barked, her body trembling as a result of the anger. “Don’t you know how to do anything right? How dare you tell me you want to quit your job? Do you have any idea how much help that particular one has been to us?” She yelled at me, her shrill voice echoing through the hallways. I stared at her as hot tears streamed down my cheeks. I couldn’t bring myself to say anything to her. Haven’t I done enough? I worked multiple jobs and have practically been providing for this family. After Nathan, my husband’s company suffered a major loss, I took it upon myself to help support the family. So far, I’m working six jobs and the stress is taking a toll on my mental health. After quitting the sixth one prior to the doctor’s instructions, my mother-in-law assumes I’ve committed a big crime. I’ve been married to my husband for three years and believe me when I say, I haven’t had a moment of peace since I stepped into this house. He had promised me the whole world and I ditched my family, ignoring their warnings and got married to him, but he practically turned me into his personal punching bag while his family rained several insults on me, blaming me for the collapse of their company’s fortunes. Sometimes I wondered if the universe was punishing me for marrying him against my parents’ orders, but I still loved him, and I’m willing to bear it all, so I did the only thing I’ve gotten used to doing for the past three years. “I’m sorry, mother.” I apologized, but she just scoffed and looked at me like I was some piece of shit. “Sorry can’t solve this, Samantha. You better go back to that company and withdraw the resignation letter you submitted. Tell them you were senseless and have made a mistake, and take that job back. How can you be so heartless? You’re the reason we’re in this mess. Immediately my son married you, things fell apart. You have to suffer for your bad luck. Do not make me repeat myself!” “Mother, please, I might break down anytime soon. I can still support the family with the remaining five jobs. I need to be alive to take care of the family, don’t I?” I asked her, hoping she would understand me. “I don’t care about any of that. If you want to die, you can die now, and I would have no regrets whatsoever. I would be the happiest person at your funeral!” She snapped and I couldn’t believe my ears. This was the same woman who was sick in the hospital with no way of survival, and I had to donate my blood to her. How could she say this to me? She owe me her life! “I don’t want to waste my time with you, Samantha. Get lost!” She pushed me away and wiped her hand with a napkin as if I were some kind of dirt. I stood with tears in my eyes. I couldn’t bring myself to move from where I stood. She turned, and her eyes met with mine. “Have you gone deaf? I said move! Beat it!” She shooed me with her hands and I wiped my tears. Slowly, I turned and started walking away from her as I made my way to the living room. I felt like I was at my breaking point and seriously if things continued like this, I don’t know if I’d be able to bear it anymore. I walked to the drawer and took out some pain relievers. My head and body were aching badly, and I needed rest. A goodnight sleep would do the trick. I reached for the drawer, but someone slapped my hands away. “What do you think you’re doing?” Lucas, Nathan’s junior brother asked. “I want to get some pain reliefs. I’m feeling pains—” “That’s none of my business!” He snapped at me and I flinched. “Mum asked us to stop you from touching anything in this house. Apparently, your bad luck is beginning to rub off on everybody. Very soon, she is going to throw your dirty and stinky ass out of this house.” He mused, mockery dripping from his tone. “I need to get the pain reliefs. Besides, I bought this drawer with my money! You can either shut the fuck or go work for your own money before having the guts to talk to me like that.” I argued back. He was one person I won’t allow to talk to me anyhow he liked. He had stolen my money to gamble numerous times, and I’ve been quiet about it, but I won’t watch him disrespect me. He rolled his eyes. “You are banned from touching it. I don’t care if it was your money, Samantha. Anyway, I have a big game tonight, and I need a thousand dollars from you.” He clicked his tongue and I scoffed. “You aren’t getting a dime from me.” I answered and turned to leave. “I knew you’d say no, so I helped myself with your credit card,” I turned to face him, my fists tightened. He threw the credit card at me. “It’s empty now. Make it quick and fill it with money. I need to get the latest sneakers by Friday.” He winked at me and walked away. I sighed and picked the credit card from the floor. Another card empty! Just how am I going to survive with all these happening to me! With a sigh, I turned to leave the living room but heard the sound of the door opening. When I turned, Nathan walked into the room and I rushed to welcome him with a smile on my face; a smile he didn’t return. I’ve gotten used to the frown he always had on his face whenever he looked at me, though. “Welcome back, honey,” I reached to take his suitcase from him, but he pushed me away. “Haven’t I warned you not to welcome me, touch me or touch my things?” He asked, and I sucked in a breath. “I’m your wife, Nathan. It’s only proper that I welcome you.” I said but he scoffed. I sighed and lowered my head, and he walked in, but what I didn’t expect was a woman with him. He linked her hand with his and beamed at her. Whoa! I’d give anything for him to smile at me like that. I took a closer look at the woman and realized she was a Sullivan; a wealthy and renowned family in New York and business companies under the Salvadors. I knew her too well. What could she be doing here? Did she have a business offer for Nathan? If that was it, then it would be good because the Salvadors could step in as well. My eyes lit up with smiles and I went to join them on the couch. I was quite uncomfortable with how clingy she was with Nathan, but I said no words to avoid him getting mad at me. “Sam,” Nathan called, and my heart skipped a bit. I couldn’t recall the last time he called me this way, and in such a gentle manner either. I gave him a small smile. “I’d like to introduce you to Bianca, my girlfriend.” I blinked. “Pardon?” I asked because there was no way I heard him correctly. Girlfriend? Is he for real? “You aren’t deaf, so you can clearly hear me, but I’ll repeat myself so it will stick in your head. Bianca Sullivan is my girlfriend.” He intertwined their fingers and my head sparked. “Girlfriend? You’ve got to be kidding me!” I snapped at him. This was unbelievable. There’s no way she’s his girlfriend. “I’m not kidding. She is beautiful, rich, and elegant, totally the kind of woman I want for myself. So, I want you to go into your room, pack your things and get out of my house.” “What? Why?” I asked. He brought out a file and slammed it on the desk in the room. “I’m divorcing you!” He announced, and my eyes widened. What!2.Samantha’s POV“This marriage isn’t working out the way I want it, Samantha. I don’t feel the need to keep trying to make it work out and—”“What are you saying, Nathan? I am the only one who has been trying to make this marriage work for three years; three shitty years, Nath. You can’t call for a divorce out of the blue, not after everything I’ve done to make all these work out.” I conveyed, hoping he would get the hint that he had done nothing in this marriage except telling me how much he wanted me to work hard to provide for the family, and reminding me that I am the reason his company went bankrupt. He glared at me, his face contorting into a stern frown. “What did you just say? I have tried making this marriage work. How dare you tell me you are the only one putting effort? I still kept you after you ruined me. Marrying you brought my company down in shambles and I tolerated you for three fucking years. Haven’t I done enough?” He yelled, drawing the attention of Laylani and h
3.Samantha’s POVI walked out of the car and heaved a deep breath as I stared at my parents’ huge mansion. A familiar feeling crept to my stomach as I sucked in a breath and made my way into the house. For three years, I stayed away from them, neglected the family name and followed Nathan. For three years, I cut off all links and connections with them because I wouldn’t want them finding out where I lived with Nathan, and come to avoid my true identity getting exposed. One reason I had stayed away from them and followed Nathan was because Father wanted me to take over the family business and also get married to Aiden, one of the wealthiest and youngest billionaires in all of New York City. I knew it was for business and I wanted to marry for love, which fueled my determination to leave everything behind and marry Nathan.I just realized how much of a stupid fool I had been then.As I walked in through the door, maids had already lined up to welcome me. I walked past them with my head
4.Aiden’s POVShe looked at me with widened eyes and mouth agape. At this moment, I had no idea whether she was shocked to see me or shocked at the fact that I called her “wifey” either way, she looked so cute that way.“Samantha,” Mr. Salvador tapped her and she regained her composure.“It’s a pleasure to finally meet you, Mr. Callymore.” She smiled, and I could tell that smile didn’t quite reach her eyes.“Skip the formalities, call me Aiden.” I winked at her and helped myself to a seat on the couch. She nodded slowly and sat down as well.I scanned her from head to toes. She hadn’t changed a bit except for the fact that she had lost a bit of weight. She left and made me wait for three years, now she is back, and I am never letting her out of my sight again. We went to the same university and studied the same course, went to the business academy together. I fell for her at first sight, but she was completely engrossed in her studies and head over heels for that imbecile that turned
5.Samantha’s POV My thoughts kept drifting to what Aiden had said yesterday as I prepare for tonight’s event. What did he mean by he wants me? At first, I wondered if I was a commodity but when I began to think deep, I got to understand what he actually meant, and I’m still in shock.Could it be that he had been waiting for me for three years? What could actually be his motive behind this marriage? I had spent the night doing some research about his company and realized he was doing just fine and didn’t need anything from us. He dealt in the importation and exportation of cars and that was the best business in the states. Our company didn’t hold a candle to his, so what exactly did he want from me? All of these thoughts raced through my head, and it annoyed me that I couldn’t get an answer to them.A knock on the door jolted me out of my reverie. “Come in,” I uttered, turning the door. It opened and Linda walked in with a box in her hand. She walked to where I sat on the bed with a
Author's POV Samantha smiled at the cameras that tried their best to get good shots of her. She looked around at the sea of people gathered and studied their expressions. Some looked happy, others were shocked and others didn't fail to show their disapproval of her being announced as the new CEO. She knew they wanted her sister to be the CEO of the company but newsflash, she had taken over and this was her time. “It is an honor to be given this privilege and I promise you all that I won't disappoint you,” she spoke about her visions and plans for the company and when she was done, she gave them a slight bow. “Thank you all for your support.” she moved aside, followed by a round of applause and cheers as the anchor came onboard. She walked to where Aiden stood, and he held her hand, causing her to freeze. “You did good.” he smiled at her, and she couldn't help the warmth she felt at his words. “Thanks.” she answered and slowly disconnected their hands before facing the stage.
7.Author's POVBianca clenched her fists. She knew Samantha was deliberately getting under her skin. Looking at Samantha now, the difference between the lady she slapped and the lady standing here was clear. The cloth she wore was even pricier than hers. If she knew the tables would turn like this, she would have minded her business, but now that things have changed, she could only face it head on.Nathan smiled and tried to touch Samantha, but she slapped his hand away. “Sam,” he rubbed the back of his head. “You didn't tell me you were this rich. You told me your parents were-”“In a remote village with no means of survival,” she completed his statement, and he took in his bottom lip while giving her a nod. Samantha chuckled. “Yeah. I lied to you.” she answered lazily, her eyes rolling.“Why would you lie to me?” he asked, happy within himself that he had found something to use against her. If he could blackmail her emotionally for lying, then it was all going to be alright for him
8.After the event, people dispersed one by one leaving Samantha with Aiden, Seth, and Linda. Linda and Seth stepped aside, so the two could talk.“Thanks for gracing this event today, Mr. Callymore. It was a great honor.” she appreciated him with a polite smile, but Ethan turned to face her, his expression serious.“Ms. Salvador,” he called, and she blinked at him. “Why the formality? I'm your soon-to-be husband.” “You're asking me about formality when you totally addressed me the same way just now?” she asked with a scoff and folded her arms.“I'm allowed to call you “Ms. Salvador” aren't I?” he asked, a bemused expression on his face.Samantha looked at him with an indifferent expression. “If you want to call me that you are free to, but don't complain because I address you formally. And I actually don't accept you as my future husband, so stop calling yourself that.” she stated firmly and he chuckled.Samantha was quite different from the women he had come across. Other women wou
9.Estella's face twisted with anger, and she looked like she was about to explode. But then, she suddenly turned and stormed off, leaving Samantha feeling shaken but relieved. She took a deep breath and walked into the study, where her father was sitting, looking worried.“Are you okay, Samantha?” he asked, concern etched on his face.Samantha nodded. “I'm fine, Dad. But I think we need to talk about Estella. She's not stable, and I'm worried about her.”Her father sighed. “I know, Samantha. I've tried to help her, but she won't listen. She's too far gone, and I don't know how to reach her anymore.”Samantha went to him and patted him on the back. “Don't worry, Dad. Everything will be alright. I'll try talking to her,” Samantha advised her father even though she knew the last person Estella wanted to see was her. She was still going to try her best to talk to her.Mr. Salvador looked up at her and smiled. This was why he loved Samantha so much. She was different from the rest. Even t
20.Lucas walked into his Aunt Mary's hospital ward, his heart shattered into a million pieces. The beeping of the machines and the antiseptic smell filled the air, but his senses were numb. He stared at his aunt's unconscious body, her frail form a stark reminder of his own vulnerability.Tears rolled down his cheeks as he recalled Janette's words: "Leave, Lucas." The finality in her voice still echoed in his mind. He felt like he was drowning in a sea of regret."Oh, Aunt Mary," he whispered, his voice cracking. "I've messed up so badly. I've lost her. I've lost Janette."He pulled up a chair and sat beside his aunt's bed, taking her limp hand in his. The warmth of her skin was a faint comfort."Why did I do it, Aunt Mary?" he asked aloud, his eyes welling up with tears. "Why did I cheat on her? Why did I lie to her?"The memories flooded his mind: Janette's laughter, her smile, her tears. He remembered the way she used to look at him, with love and adoration. Now, that same look wa
19.Lucas turned to look at Janette, his eyes filled with hurt. When she told him she had a fiancé, she thought it was all a ploy to get him to leave her alone since she was angry with him. He couldn’t believe she really had a fiancé.Janette looked at him, her expression unreadable. Well… that served him right. He needed to know his place anyway.“Jane,” he called, his voice low and unsteady. “It’s really true? Tell me he is joking.” he looked at Liam, who had a smirk on his face.“Why do you need to know if it’s true or not? Isn’t it obvious,” he walked to where Janette stood and wrapped his arms around her shoulders. “She is going to be my wife soon. We are planning our wedding soon.”Lucas ignored Liam and faced Janette. “Tell me, Janette, tell me it’s not true.” he tried to touch her but she moved away from him.She intertwined her fingers with that of Liam and looked at Lucas. “It’s true, Lucas. Liam and I will soon get married.”Lucas felt like a thousand needles had just been
Marilyn chuckled darkly as she continued to pull Chloe's hair. “What does it look like I'm doing, Chloe?” She asked, the bitterness in her voice evident. “Wouldn't it be cool for Mr. Ethan to know that you were spying on him?”“Spying?” Chloe's eyes widened. “I wasn't spying on him. What are you even saying? Let go of my hair right now!” Chloe snapped at her. Marilyn smirked, pulled the hair one more time before letting go of it. Chloe swiftly turned to face Marilyn, her face holding nothing but the anger she was feeling right now. “What did you do that for?” she snapped, and Marilyn chuckled with her arms folded.“You were eavesdropping, so I had to put you in your place. Now let's hear what Mr. Ethan will have to say about it!” she snapped and didn't give Chloe the chance to talk before dragging her into Ethan's office, interrupting him and Alexis.Ethan raised an eyebrow.“Mr. Ethan, it would interest you to know that Chloe here was spying on you and your visitor.” she reported w
Chloe couldn't believe it. Her eyes scanned the variety of food displayed beautifully on the dining table. There was pasta with sauce and meatballs; he even added chopsticks which was her favorite cutlery for when she eats pasta, there was her favorite dessert and cheesecake alongside her favorite drink, strawberry smoothie.A soft music began playing in the background and Chloe felt like she was home. She could feel different emotions all at once; Love, gratitude and happiness. She couldn't believe Ethan went out of his way to do all these for her."Ethan, this is... Wow." she stuttered, her eyes shining with tears.Ethan smiled and led her to the table and pulled out a chair for her. "Sit down, my love," he said, his voice low and husky. Chloe sat down, her heart racing with excitement. Ethan took his place across from her and poured her a glass of strawberry smoothie. "I know how much you love this," he said, his eyes sparkling with love. Chloe took a sip, her eyes never leaving
She doesn't look happy, Easton. She keeps screaming and saying she wants out of here,” He replied, and I sighed, running my hands through my hair. “Can you tell me how you got the famous Nicole Brennan to become your wife?” He asked.“Let's just say we met coincidentally. She was drunk, I was in search of a bride, she proposed to me, I accepted and… here we are.” I narrated to him, and he chuckled, causing me to smile.Apart from Maven, Steve was the only person I could really open up to. He took care of me right from when I was a teenager. He has been my butler from when I was a kid, and whenever I went through a lot and asked him to find his way out of my life, so he wouldn't get hurt, he would always choose to stick with me. We've been through a lot together, and he knew my pains and how to help me manage them. He was like a father figure to me because he did things which my father refused to do for me.I'm lucky to have him.“But why did you accept her proposal? I know you to be a
The drive to his house was taking too long, and it was becoming boring staying inside the car and doing nothing. I turned to look at Easton, but he had a straight expression as he looked ahead.I sighed and tucked a strand of hair behind my ears. This wasn't how I pictured my life to be at all. I was supposed to be on my own, planning my revenge against those dimwits, but here I am, going to live in someone else's house as his wife. No one needs to tell me what can happen if this goes into the news. They'd probably say I seduced him and wanted to use his money to make a comeback.“Aren't we there yet?” I asked him.All I wanted right now was a place to rest my head and get rid of all these thoughts twirling in my head.Easton turned to look at me, his gaze softening. “What? Are you that excited to see where I live, wifey?” He asked and I became annoyed.“Stop calling me your wife, Mr. Easton.” I replied formally, but he shrugged and looked away from me.“You're my wife now, Nicole. ~CASSIUS POV~I knew she was going to come to her senses eventually, but I had no idea the tables would turn like this, and she would end up shocking the fucking hell out of me.I stared at her and couldn’t help wondering what changed and why she would announce that I was the one she wanted to get married to out of the blue.I could literally feel the rage emanating from Roman, and it filled me with a certain kind of joy. He had always been irresponsible, prompting the family business to come into my hands after my brother’s tragic death. I practically restructured and reorganized everything, and the company became even better than before. This made Roman hate me, and he was ready to do anything to bring me down.I have no interest in staying there for long since I had my own company, and it is one of the best in the country. I do better on my own, but I won’t watch what my brother built fall to the ground in the hands of his irresponsible son. When I see that he has man up, I will le
~SOPHIA’S POV~I gasped, my lungs burning as if they were desperate to burst free from my chest. Breath filled them like a tidal wave, threatening to drown me from the inside out. My chest heaved, straining against the weight of an invisible force pressing down on me. Panic set in, my heart racing like a runaway train.Suddenly, my eyes snapped open.A blur of colors and shapes swirled above me, slowly taking form. The first thing I noticed was his face – chiseled features, sharp jawline, and piercing gray eyes that seemed to bore into my very soul. Worry etched deep lines into his forehead, and his brows were furrowed in concern.Cassius? Was Cassius dead too? What’s going on?My mind cleared slightly, and I felt a mix of confusion and shock. I tore my gaze from him and looked around. The scent of medicine and antiseptic slid into my nostrils, bringing me to the realization that I was in a hospital. But how? What was I doing in a hospital when I should be dead? I’m sure I’m dead. Ro
My lips curved upwards immediately those words left her. I knew she was not going to refuse the offer, but I was still relieved that she met my expectations. In her eyes, I could see nothing but pain, sorrow, resentment, anger, and a thirst for revenge. The worst thing a man can ever do to a woman is to break her trust and her heart when all she had ever done was love him with all her heart and soul. Once that trust is broken, a woman can go to any length to make that man suffer for every single pain she experienced.Do not underestimate the power of an angry woman, thirsty for revenge.“I’m glad you accepted my proposal, Ms. Zander. Have a seat so we can go over the terms of the contract I have prepared for us.” I gestured to the chair in front of my desk and she sat down.“You knew I was going to come back to you, right? That was why you prepared the contract even before I said yes.” She looked at me, waiting for my answer, while I just smiled at her.Chloe Zander, she was always th
