As soon as Anna heard Adam's footsteps moving away down the corridor, she quickly locked the room. She put on her clothes, checked to see if the money was still in the lining of her shorts, and breathed a sigh of relief when she found all the money there. She went to the window and smiled with satisfaction. They were on the second floor. She imagined they would make sure she stayed away from the stairs. She opened the window slowly, afraid of making a noise, and jumped out. Adam didn't lie. They were on the side of the road. She went to the front of the hospital and recognized Adam's men. She needed to escape that way. Behind the hospital was a high wall that she would be unable to climb. She began to walk past them, hiding between the cars. As she did so, she tried to open their doors. She managed to open one of them. She got in and hid behind the back seats, and waited anxiously. If they discovered her escape, Adam would search every corner and every car. She needed to make su
Anna finished her broth and looked at the waitress. “That's not going to happen to me.” She said, put the money for the broth on the table and stood up. “I'm sorry it happened to you. If one day, I come back here after my son is born, I'll help you get your son back. I know the restaurant doesn't give away cereal bars.” Anna said, as after a week of going there, the waitress started to leave the cereal bar, which helped sustain her and her baby, and Anna walked towards the entrance of the restaurant, when she felt a liquid running down her legs. She stopped. Had something happened to her baby? She felt the waitress approach her. “Are you all right?” She asked worriedly. “I think I peed, but it was strange, because the urine just came out.” The waitress put her hand over her mouth. “Your sac has ruptured. Your baby's coming!” Anna felt the first wave of pain after she said those words, and she cringed, clutching her belly. The wave passed, and she looked at the waitr
As soon as the nurse left with the child, the doctor frowned. “I spoke to you yesterday, but I don't think you heard me.” “What did you say?” “That you're the mother of a beautiful baby boy.” Anna smiled. “I realize that.” “I don't understand... You were fine when you got here, but after the baby was born, your body reacted as if I had taken your health along with the child.” Anna understood immediately. The baby kept her healthy. Without it, she would become fragile again. And also, without knowing when a werewolf would be approaching, even though she hadn't met any werewolves after her escape. Now was the time for her to prepare and make plans for the future. The doctor talked to Anna a little longer and after he left, the waitress approached. “I don't think you need me anymore. I'll go back, maybe my job will still be there.” “I really appreciate what you've done for me, I swear I'll repay you one day. You used your resources to get me admitted here and we're
“Go back to bed, Anna.” The waitress's voice became reproachful. “You've just undergone complicated procedures, and your son will need you! You need to rest!” Beth warned, and despite the reprimand, with sincere concern. Anna went back to bed. She remained silent for a few seconds, before turning to Beth, who smoothed the blanket back over her body. “I need to get away.” “I see. That's why you were looking out of the window.” “Yes.” “Yes, you can escape through it... But you'll have to leave your son behind. There's no chance of taking him with you. Firstly, because it's impossible to get down to the second floor carrying a child up these stairs. And secondly, because the child is in the arms of their leader.” Anna felt a tear roll down her cheek when Beth said those words. If she recognized any trace of him... No! Someone betrayed her and told Adam that she was expecting a baby... Would he have the courage to kill his own son? Maybe not, but he could send
“No need to thank me. You were raised and cared for to be treated like a queen, and I told Adam that when he told me he was going to marry you, to stop you becoming the wife of every man in the Lens family, but he wanted you. He always did. Even before Allister bought you, Adam... I don't know what happened between you two, but I'm here to offer you choices, my daughter. I know it's late, but I'm here to support you. I won't leave your side anymore.” “Why did Adam want me? Has he seen me before?” Henry ran a hand through his hair. “Anna, he saw you with some friends at our old house when he came to offer me a job. I'm sorry, my child, but your fate has always been tied to this family.” “Adam offered you a job?” “Yes. But I couldn't take it. I was buried in my own addiction and if I accepted, I'd be condemning you to death. Adam started torturing Allister long before he took power. I don't think Adam was ever a child. Anyway, he gave up my services when he saw you.” “
Anna watched her father leave, and without thinking about anything else, she fell asleep with her son still in her arms. When she woke up. She remembered her baby and was startled when she didn't find him in her arms. She thought he had fallen and, in her despair, she didn't realize that there was someone right next to her. It was only when she turned to see if her baby was on the floor that she saw two polished luxury shoes, and raised her head until she saw Beth's smiling face, wearing a black suit. “The nurse has taken the child for a bath and a change of clothes, so you can change too.” “What are you doing here?” “I'm going to work for your father. I'm going abroad with you.” Anna smiled happily. She would have someone to talk to who didn't know another language either. “I'm happy for you... Did he say what the nature of your service is?” She asked, making sure that her father hadn't revealed that he was a mobster. She wondered if her father knew he was handin
Anna breathed a sigh of relief. Adam would never suspect that she had run away pregnant. Which meant he would never ask about the child. Genevieve and her antics... Anna's father handed over a good amount of money to the smiling receptionist, and Anna turned to Genevieve. “Take care of yourself and Jenna.” Anna said and saw the surprised look Genevieve sent her father. But it was too quick. “Of course.” She only answered. Anna looked at the baby in her arms. He was very beautiful, and as soon as she removed the blanket that was covering part of his face, he opened his eyes, and Anna felt a tightness in her chest. They were the same blue eyes as Adam's. How could she forget that damn werewolf if she spent the next eighteen years of her life living with a copy of him? She allowed herself to think about him for a few more minutes as she made her way to the car, and then forgot about him when her father asked her if she wanted to go somewhere first, before they left for the ai
Maxwell overcame the small distance between them and checked on the child, who opened her first smile at him as soon as he uncovered her face. He smiled too and Anna saw the beautiful dimples that appeared on his cheeks, and decided that she would use that to differentiate him from the man she had left behind. “It's just the two of us.” He replied, looking at the baby. “What's his name?” Maxwell asked and everyone was silent, as Anna hadn't yet put a name to the child. “Baby.” Anna replied, frowning. “We can't call a little wolf a baby forever, can we? He won't inspire respect if everyone calls him baby when he turns eighteen.” He asked without taking his eyes off the child. Anna suddenly made a decision that surprised everyone, especially Maxwell. “Do you have any suggestions?” She asked, staring at him as she pushed the child into his arms. Maxwell stared at her, seemed unsure for a moment, but then turned his eyes back to the child in his arms and smiled. “What
