“Gio…” Eleonor calls him by his childhood nickname, then covers her mouth, realizing she made a mistake.

“Yes, it's me, love…” His voice sounds from the other side of the wall, like when they were kids.

“So…it was you this whole time…” She grasps the fabric of her shirt, trying to ease the wild pounding of her heart and the anxiety bubbling up inside her veins.

“I'm the one who should say that…” Giovanni laughs and, even though it's low, reverberates through her chest. “This whole time I've been chasing the wrong person.”

“What… what do you mean?” Eleonor stutters and looks at the wall, hoping that would make it possible to see his face… which is impossible, of course.

“You told me to leave because you knew I was spying on you…” He chuckles again, even lower. “I was, but of course, I wouldn't admit it. So, I told you're the one bothering me with that laugh.”
