Chapter 6

TRISTAN

“What did you say?”

I wanted her to repeat the words she’d uttered so I’d know what I’d do with her. She still had that look of conviction in her eyes. I hated it. I didn’t like that she felt so sure of herself. I wanted to break her. I wanted her to know that I would be the one in charge, not her.

“I can help you destroy Tristan. He’s your longtime rival, isn’t he?” Violet had a knowing look in her eyes.

I couldn’t help but chuckle at her words. She really thought she had some sort of power over me. Like she could control me if she wanted to. She had a whole lot coming if that was what she felt she could do.

I wasn’t some measly person that she could just try and use as she willed. She must have no clue who I am. Or if she did, she was a very bold woman. Too bad, this would be her last time ever being this bold.

Leaning closer to her, I grabbed her chin forcefully, making her squirm in her chair. There was something else in her eyes. Something along the lines of fear. Good. I wanted her to know her place once and for all.

“Who do you think you are to even hope that you could help me in anyway?” I leaned my head to the side. She stopped squirming in her seat, her eyes still holding a bit of confidence from before.

“I’m offering you my help which I know you’ll definitely need.” She replied.

My eyes narrowed on her at those words. Something about the way she sounded so sure of herself made me want to trust what she could do, but I knew better than to just do that by now.

I didn’t know what her true intentions were so I had to be careful how I approached things with her.

“That’s a lot of big talk for a little girl who’s all bark and no bite.” I scoffed.

“You underestimate me, Lucian.” She cocked her head to the side, meeting my stare with defiance.

There was a look in her eyes. Like she was silently daring me not to accept her help. I didn’t like the way she was so confident about it. It infuriated me. I wanted to break her. Wipe that confidence right off her face till she realized she didn’t stand a single chance against me.

I knelt down before her and roughly grabbed her chin. She tried to squirm under my harsh grip but I didn’t relent.

“You’ll do well not to talk back. I’m not a patient man.” I stared straight into her eyes as I said that.

We stared into each other’s eyes for what felt like forever. I hated her and I wanted her to know it. I wanted to break her in unimaginable ways till she realized how utterly helpless she was before me.

I turned to the beta of our pack, Zayn Flynn. He had an unreadable expression on her face.

“She’s just wasting her time. You can get rid of her if you want.” I scoffed, about to turn away.

“Wait. Don’t you want to hear what she has to say?” He asked. He had a knowing look in his eyes so I knew he was serious about everything he was saying. I shook my head. I wouldn’t let this girl mess with my head. It would be better to kill her off now, to avoid any further problems.

She stared back at Zayn, a hint of defiance in her stare. She was still playing the tough girl role. I wondered for how long she could afford to keep on the act. I wanted to see what lengths I could push her to.

“She’s stated all she wants to do. I don’t see how she can be of any help. All she’s spouting is nothing but bullshit.”

“But what if that isn’t the case?” Zayn stared from me to her.

“I know it is. She knows she’s about to die. The bitch will say anything to keep her head.” I voiced out, my eyes still on her.

“I am not a bitch.” She glared at me. I knew that if she wasn’t restrained, she’d have probably tried to attack me. I could tell by the kind of look she had in her eyes. I had to tread carefully.

Zayn went quiet, probably processing what I’d just said. He put a hand under his chin and closed his eyes for a moment. I felt like rolling my eyes. It really wasn’t that deep to warrant all this drama. He opened his eyes back and turned to me.

“That doesn’t sound so bad.”

“The hell do you mean by that?” I frowned.

“Here me out on this one first.” He put a hand on my shoulder before explaining.

“She used to be a part of West Creak Pack. If anyone would know more about Tristan and the possible weaknesses he has, it’d definitely be her. She might turn out to be more useful than you think. Why not just consider it?”

Zayn had a knowing look in his eyes as he stared at me. I pondered on what he explained. He had a point. I could see where he was reasoning from. Using her could end up being what gives me the upper hand over Tristan.

I turned back to Violet who had been silently watching us. Hazel eyes were staring back at me expectantly. I could tell what she was trying to say even if she wasn’t expressly saying anything.

Your move.

I blew out a breath and went back to her. I got down so I could be on the same eye level as her.

“How exactly do you plan on helping me destroy Tristan?” I asked.

“Exactly as he said. I’ll give you every single information you’ll need to destroy Tristan. I’ll also give you all the information I have on West Creak Pack.” She explained.

I narrowed my eyes at her suspiciously. “And what do you stand to gain from all this?”

“I get to have my revenge. I want Tristan’s head on a platter.” She stared back at me.

There was a way she worded it. I felt the chills from her statement alone. She really hated Tristan, that was sure. I wondered what he must have done to make this woman so bitter.

“Was he your lover?” I asked.

“Mate.” She admitted after a long pause.

“So why do you want revenge on him?”

She remained silent, unable to meet my gaze. It was then the realization dawned on me. She was supposed to be Tristan’s mate but he had rejected her. He had rejected her without a single sliver of remorse.

“She makes a convincing point.” Zayn folded his arms. “The pack’s been on constant edge without the presence of a Luna. While we’re a strong and impenetrable force, internal security also has to be maintained. The presence of a Luna would help placate any issues that could possibly arise.”

I turned back to him immediately. “Are you suggesting I make her my Luna?”

“Think about it for a minute. The other pack members would be suspicious if you just bring in a stranger who doesn’t seem to serve any purpose whatsoever to the pack. Making her your Luna would be a good way to keep her close and let her help you destroy West Creak.” Zayn explained.

“I have to make her my Luna.” The words came out before I could control them.

I didn’t miss the way her whole body stiffened after hearing those words. It must have had an effect on her. It wasn’t like I cared how she felt. I needed a pawn and she was willing to submit herself to my cause.

“Hell no.” I moved away from her. “I don’t want a mate and I sure as well don’t need one.”

Zayn followed after me and put a hand on my shoulder, forcing me to turn to him. He had a determined look in his eyes as he spoke.

“I get what you’re going at…except you actually do need one. There’s been lots of talk about it. An Alpha having a Luna maintains a kind of societal hierarchy in the pack. Don’t you get it? Some people might start to think of you as incompetent for being unable to get a mate. Is that what you want?”

“Looks like you do need my help after all.” Violet laughed.

A low growl left my lips as I glared at her but she didn’t flinch as I expected her to. Violet took in a deep breath before speaking again.

“You might not see me as the ideal mate but I doubt should matter to you. You don’t want a mate, that much is clear. It doesn’t mean you should throw away this opportunity. I can be your mate but it’ll just be in name and name alone.

We have no feelings towards each other so you don’t have to worry about me being used as your weakness. You would be disposable to me just as I would be easily disposable to you. That way, we only use each other as we deem fit.”

Violet’s gaze never wavered as she said all this.

“You do realize what you’re doing. Selling away your former pack, betraying them in the worst way and joining an enemy pack. You are one rotten apple.” I let out a dry chuckle.

“Takes one to know one.” Violet said, wearing a small smile on her face.

I studied her for a while before turning to Zayn who was watching the interaction ensue in silence. He nodded his head, giving a sort of silent affirmation to me. Seems there was no other choice.

“Luna Violet Everdeen. Has a nice of ring to it.” I smiled at her.

“It really does.” She smiled back.

Poor thing. She really had no idea what she was getting herself into.
