My life instantly changed the moment I found my father. Or at least, the moment that Ralph found me. I would never give Spenser any of the credit. He might have been the one who started the ball rolling for me to end up where Ralph could find me, but he didn’t do it because he was trying to help. Spenser rejected me without a second thought! The pain was slowly subsiding.
I had to credit my dad, Ralph and the pack for that. They were nothing like I thought they would be. They were nothing like the people in the kingdom thought. I had heard stories over the years, but it was all hearsay. Very few people who actually saw what was going on beyond our borders spoke about it. I very quickly figured out that it was the king’s way of making sure that his people wouldn’t leave his kingdom.
“Okay, so you started this war because you believed he kidnapped me or, worse, that he had me killed?” I frowned at my dad who had been telling me their side of the story. I had been there a couple of days, and we were slowly figuring out exactly what happened. Or the parts we knew about.
“I wanted you back. Things got really bad after your mother died.” My dad looked broken for a moment and I reached out and took his hand in mine. I could only imagine the pain he had gone through.
“And you think he wanted me killed, but that his warrior went against his wishes?” I frowned and Ralph nodded.
“I’ve had some of our spies asking around, and it seems that way, but like with everything else in that kingdom, they can’t say for sure. I guess we will never know.” Ralph shrugged and I kept frowning. It all made sense though, even if we didn’t have all the facts.
“I’ve called all of our warriors’ home for the celebration, but they will have to go out and fight again soon. We have to win this once and for all. Now that we have you back, I can prove that they took you.” My father growled.
“Dad, I know we haven’t spent much time together yet, and you don’t really know me that well, but I think you should hold back on that order.” I wanted to lead our armies when we took down the king and his henchmen. I wanted to be at the front of our army when we destroyed Spenser and his pack! I knew I was being emotional about it, but I didn’t care.
I wanted to see the look in his eyes when he found out who I really was! Then I wanted to watch that light in his eyes die as his life left him! My hatred for Spenser had grown by leaps and bounds with each passing moment over the past couple of days. We hadn’t figured out why I didn’t win the rank trials. I was a royal after all, but I was sure it had something to do with my lack of proper training.
I wanted my dad to train me. This would be my final rank trail. I would lead our army and destroy all their so-called-ranked wolves as payback for the life their king stole from me! It took some convincing, but in the end my dad agreed. We were going to lull them into a false sense of security. We were going to withdraw all of our warriors and make sure that if they had spies in our kingdom, the spies would have nothing to report.
As soon as those bastards got too comfortable, we would strike! I would strike back! I wanted to win this war not just for myself, but for my dad and for my mom who was no longer there.

It was truly infuriating! The fact that I couldn’t get her out of my damn mind at a time when I needed it most to think clearly, as well as the fact that the rogues had mysteriously disappeared! My scouts kept coming back with the same information. Their kingdom was deserted, and the rogues were gone. They didn’t die because there would have been some sign of that.
They all just picked up and left! Something deep inside me told me that wasn’t true, but that was the way it looked. My scouts even followed Alison’s trail, but her scent stopped near the river and there was no sign that she had gone anywhere from there. What made things even more difficult was that the unclaimed territories were wild. They were covered in the scents of all sorts of creatures.
My only hope was that they were still in their kingdom, but now that it had been deserted, I finally had to admit it. The war was over! I couldn’t believe it myself at first and took a couple of days just to make sure before I informed the king. I was sure that he wouldn’t believe it either, but once I presented him with the proof, he would have no alternative but to believe me. The war was finally over. After eighteen years, we could actually live in peace. Which kind of made me feel uneasy.
I had no idea how to live in peace. I became alpha after the war started. I have not spent one day living a normal life since the moment I became Alpha. A week after I heard that the rogues had deserted their kingdom, I finally left to see the king. The conversation was as difficult as I thought it would be. He didn’t believe me even after I presented him with the proof. It took a couple of days of meetings before he finally sent out the order and the people celebrated in the streets.
We won! The war was over! I could take a mate and have a family. I could go out for a run without having to worry that our pack was going to be attacked! I could do all these things! It felt really strange to finally be free! We had been fighting for it for so long.
AlisonConvincing my father to leave their pack territory was a huge thing. Ralph quickly got what I was planning, and he helped me to convince my father in the end. The warriors needed rest. Proper rest. Away from borders that they had to protect. Some of the younger warriors were thrown into the deep end and were never properly trained. One of the advantages of my position as omega in the old kingdom was that I had a lot of time to just watch what was going on without anyone realizing I was doing it. I wanted to give them all the information I had about the army. I wanted them to know which step they were going to take before they even took it.In order for us to properly prepare, we had to leave our home. We had to get away from everything that could distract us. I wanted to be trained so that I could lead our army in the final battle. I wanted to be there when we ran over their defenses. I wanted to be there when that monstrous king was ripped from his high horse and his throne wa
SpenserIt was the strangest thing! The rogues simply disappeared as though they were never there! I walked through what used to be their town and it was a complete ghost town. I was half expecting one of them to jump out at us at some point or some trap, but they were gone. From the state of their town, they left in a hurry. Furniture was strewn all over the place. I found a cupboard still filled with food that had gone off. It had been two months since the last attack and nobody had seen a single rogue since then. Since it was so unbelievable, the king instructed me to check it out myself. I met up with my warriors in the square before returning home.I wasn’t sure how the king was going to take the news, and I wasn’t looking forward to telling him. The rogues were gone. The war was over.AlisonWe watched Spenser and his men walking through town from the safety of the cliff. Our people were still keeping an eye on our territory. We had to make sure that nobody moved in and took ove
AlisonMy father came out of nowhere and told me to wait with the army while he moved forward. I had learned to respect his wishes over the past two years, but it was difficult to watch him approach the people who hated us so much. I was even more surprised when the old king suddenly appeared on the other side of the field, and he met my father in the middle.I couldn’t hear what they were saying, and my hearing was the best in the pack. Ever since my father crowned me queen, I have grown even stronger. The two old kings shook hands in the middle of what was going to be the most epic battle of all time and my father returned. He was frowning, and I just knew I wasn’t going to like what he was about to say.“I’m sorry, Alison.” My father frowned before turning his attention to my pack. “The old king and I have come to an agreement. We have all lived without war for the past two years, and we want to keep living in peace. We’ve all lost so many people that we both feel we don’t want to
AlisonI was furious, but I couldn’t tell my father. All that work was basically wasted. He also made a huge decision on his own that was meant to be my decision to make. I wouldn’t have agreed to a truce and he knew it. I knew that was why he did what he did. Over the next couple of days, I was torn between what my father wanted and the revenge plan I had been working on for two years. As I walked through town, it also quickly became clear that the pack was confused. Some were relieved about it, just like my father was.“The king declared war because of the princess. Now that she is back, there is no reason for us to fight anymore.” I overheard a guard who didn’t realize I was just around the corner.“But they took her! They have to pay for that!” His companion growled and I smiled.“They have been paying. For twenty years. So have we! I want peace. I want to sit on my porch and watch my grandchildren grow up one day.” The guard hit back and I rolled my eyes. Some of our pack were cl
AlisonIn the morning, the beautification process started. I honestly couldn’t understand why I had to be put through all of it just so people could stare at me, but my father insisted, and I didn’t want to disappoint him. I wanted him to be proud. I also wanted to rub it in the faces of all the people who ever belittled me or tried to make me feel less worthy.I was a lowly omega when I was chased away like a dog. I returned as the queen of the rogues. That in itself was huge. I also looked different, and I knew most of them would notice it instantly. I was stronger. More toned, and definitely more tanned. I looked good, and I knew it. Even in the ridiculous dress my father wanted me to wear.“Wow, you look amazing!” My father’s eyes lit up the moment he saw me and his happiness made it all worthwhile. I couldn’t shift in this monstrosity, which meant my father had to arrange for a car. I had never been in one, but the car that was waiting outside the house was definitely very old. I
Alison“Welcome,” The old king smiled. He slowly got up and walked down the three steps and I knew what he was doing! He was showing us that we were in his territory! If my father didn’t agree to this stupid truce, this would all have been mine!“Thank you, your highness. May I introduce my daughter, Alison? Queen … of the rogues.” My father hesitated to let it sink in, and the old king raised a brow.“This is news to me. Was she queen when you and I came to an agreement?” The bastard ignored me on purpose!“She can speak for herself.” I softly growled, drawing their attention. “Thanks to your greed, I didn’t grow up with my parents, and I wasn’t taught proper royal protocol, but …” I looked at my father who was about to say something. “The truce will stand for now. Since it is clear that neither of us want more blood spilled. I will honour my father’s agreement.” If I hadn't been so irritated with both of them, I might have smiled at the old king’s reaction. It was clear that I made
Spenser“Spenser! What is this? Why are you sending me home?! You can’t do this to me? I have a right to celebrate just like everyone else!” I was expecting Otsana to make a scene but not one that drew the attention of everyone standing around us!“Go home, Otsana!” I growled, seeing the confusion in her eyes as I used my alpha tone on her. In the past couple of days, it became more and more difficult to get her to listen, and I had been ordering her with my alpha tone most of the time, but it seemed she still wasn’t used to it! She huffed, and her face turned bright red before she whipped around and stormed off with my beta hot on her heels.“She forgot something.” I shrugged at nobody specific and a group of males laughed in agreement. Thankfully, the surrounding conversations quickly picked up again, and I was just about to make my way to the old king when I walked right into the one person that could bring me to my knees with just one look.AlisonI was going to avoid him. I was g
AlisonI couldn’t get out of the damn dress fast enough when we finally got back home. I had to force a smile so many times that my cheeks actually ached and all I wanted was to get into a hot bath and pretend that none of this happened. I spent two years of my life preparing for war. I spent that time carefully planning my revenge only for the carpet to be ripped out from under me.Not only that, but I had to pretend I was okay with all of it! I slipped into the hot water and lowered my head under the water. It was quiet there. Calm. Until I saw my omega’s face looking worried. Water splashed all over the place as I went up for air.“Surely, it wasn’t that bad.” She frowned and I sighed deeply. My omega wasn’t just my servant. She became my best friend.“If you like dressing up and people pretending, yeah, then it wasn’t that bad.” I laughed, knowing full well she probably had a lot more fun than I did. “Now, tell me what you got up to tonight. I prefer to live vicariously through yo
EmilyI pushed to break through a mind link and I finally felt it releasing. He was one of us.“My apologies, your majesty. I have been gone for so long, it is difficult to open my pack link.” He finally answered through the link and I studied him carefully before ordering the guards to stand down.“Who are you and why have you been gone for so long?” I frowned. I couldn’t remember any of our spies being out in the world. Everyone had returned home for the celebration.“I’m Ares, your majesty. I was sent out by your father three years ago to try and find you a mate.” His cheeks turned red and I rolled my eyes. “I guess I know now why I couldn’t find one.”AroraThe news about Emily’s mate spread like wildfire through the kingdom, and before she even walked through the doors with Ares, we knew she had met him. Ares was one of Bernard’s young recruits that should have formed part of the queen’s guard, but Bernard sent him out to try and find a mate for our daughter. We hadn’t heard from
AroraI kept my promise. The day that Bernard and I retired from royal life and handed over the reigns to our daughter Emily was the proudest day of our lives. She had grown into one of the kindest people I had ever known, while at the same time standing her ground when it was needed. She was strong and brave even though she had not faced a war. She was ready to rule, and the people were ready for her to take over. Emily was much loved by our people as she had grown up in the streets of the city and knew most of them by name. She took all the lessons I taught her over the years to heart and made sure that the people were taken care of long before she became queen. I could hear the rumours again of how much she reminded the people of the old rogue queen, and it made me feel proud that the pack loved her that much.Sadly, new rumours were starting to flare up all over the city, and they unsettled us a little. Emily was old enough now to mate, but unlike most of the royals, she didn’t fi
AroraForgiving the royal family a second time was probably one of the toughest things I ever had to do, but I knew that if I didn’t, there would be no end to the cruelty that would definitely follow. I had preached forgiveness before everything happened, and this gave me the opportunity to again remind people how to forgive.I made sure they saw me happily interacting with the royal family at each event and I made sure the royals that remained spent time with the people. The kingdom grew prosperous again under Bernard’s rule, and with my help, the people became happy again. We announced my pregnancy soon after I passed the second month mark, and very soon after that, I began to show. The royal baby grew fast in my belly as time slowly ticked by. I spent my days in the old queen’s vegetable gardens and tending to the flower gardens as much as my body would allow. I joined the omegas to do the shopping for the castle and made sure I knew what every one of our supplier’s problems were,
AroraMy omegas helped me to get dressed early the next morning. Having a warm and comfortable bed to sleep in and proper food to fill my belly, helped me to at least get some sleep. I was sure that the news about my release had already spread through the kingdom and was surprised when I walked into the dining room and saw the faces of the royals. Most of them were covered in shame as they should be, but I held my head high and took my seat beside Bernard. After the omega left the night before, Bernard told me everything that happened. He told me how he tried to find evidence against Irina and that he only believed her for a short while. It hurt to think that he had so little trust in me, but I pushed it to the back of my mind.None of them were to blame for any of this. Irina was the one who was to blame. She was the one who was going to face trial now and, thanks to Bernard’s genius plan, they had more than enough evidence to sentence Irina without spending much time on a trial.“Ar
AroraBernard took his time. He even postponed the trial for two days so they could find a witch to explain what each item in their mound of evidence was used for. My only glimmer of light was seeing Irina losing her patience the longer Bernard postponed the inevitable. It was clear as day from the looks I was getting in court. All the nobles believed that I was guilty.Bernard was digging deeper into the hole with each move. I didn’t have any hope that they were going to save me. Even with the visits from Bernard and his mother. I don’t trust them anymore. My fate was sealed. Now he just had to make the final decision. He had to judge me. He had to decide how and when I would be killed.IrinaThe glass flew through the air and shattered against the wall as I screamed out in frustration. My cousin was just postponing the inevitable in the hopes that I would slip up. I noticed he now had four guards following my every move. I couldn’t even use the secret passages without having them po
AroraPrincess Helena snuck into the dungeons to see me, and she brought me some food, but I was still so cold that I was having trouble moving. I also wasn’t sure if I could trust the food they were giving me. If they saw me as a traitor, they could very well try to poison me. My trust in all of them had been shattered, and I wasn’t sure if it would ever be possible to repair it.I had been waiting for this shoe to drop since the very moment I found out Bernard was my mate. Almost as though I knew they would just turn around and betray me, but I started to trust them and believe that they would trust me. I couldn’t help the way I was feeling. They all turned on me so fast after seeing all those things in Irina’s little secret room.Nobody believed me. It was as though none of them really knew me at all. Why would I ever trust any of them again? Bernard’s face came to mind and I felt my heartache. He should have believed me right from the start. He should have trusted me. He should ha
AroraIt wasn’t as cold on the cot as it was on the floor, but the night was long, and it still felt like the cold had found its way into my bones. I had no idea what was going on upstairs and, if I was honest, I didn’t care. They were so eager to believe Irina that they didn’t see how cruel she was. They all deserved whatever she had planned for them. I knew she made sure the proof pointed to me, but I couldn’t help myself. They should all have known by now that I wouldn’t have done that. Yet, even Bernard believed I was the traitor. I wasn’t sure if we would ever be able to find our way back to each other after all of this. The memory of Bernard visiting me and whispering came to mind and I pushed it to the back of my mind. I didn’t dare hope that things would work out in the end. Irina had been far too clever so far. She was going to make sure Bernard wouldn’t be able to prove my innocence. She was going to make sure the entire family believed her lies. The cold pushed through my t
BernardNone of this made any sense. Unless I didn’t know Arora as well as I thought I did, but I couldn’t imagine her doing the kinds of things Irina had accused her of. We found notes in the room that referred to even worse actions and I didn’t want to even think about it.I was torn between what I thought I knew and what possibilities there were. Was Arora a cruel and evil person who took revenge on our family or was she the kind heart that helped us to save our family from total ruin? Not that I thought the pack would ever revolt against us.I sat back in my office chair, not wanting to go to our room and not wanting to face my family. There were still far too many unanswered questions and I wanted to be able to answer at least some of them when I faced them again. The most prominent would probably be if I was going to put Arora on trial.“What are you doing here alone, cousin?” Irina wondered in my office and I sighed deeply. She was the last person I wanted to deal with right no
Arora“She planned this.” My voice was soft, but one of two of them heard me. “Irina planned this!” I shouted. “My omega followed her today and found the room. Irina wants all of you to think that I’m the traitor so she can get rid of me. Bernard, you have to believe me.”“His Majesty, don’t have to believe one word that comes out of your traitorous mouth!” Irina shouted from the back. “Your father was a traitor, and so are you!” She hissed and I could feel the atmosphere turning.“We need to hear from the omega, Bernard.” Princess Helena spoke up, and I breathed a sigh of relief. The omega was dragged up the stairs and I could see in her eyes that this wasn’t going to go my way. She kept looking at Irina and I wondered what happened in the short time we were apart. What could Irina have done? She was right there with me the entire time.“Please tell us what happened this morning.” Princess Helena took the lead.“I … Please, don’t make me do this.” The omegas eyes filled with tears as
