I drive to San Francisco, gripping the steering wheel tightly, replaying the chaotic scene at Megra's house over and over in my mind. The memory of my fist connecting with Conor's face, the unintentional hit that sent Megra to the floor, haunts me. The terror in her eyes as she hit the ground is seared into my memory, her pained expression twisting my gut with shame. Then Liza's panicked voice cuts through the haze, asking if the baby was okay.
