DAMON'S POV
"There's no need to be scared, you can sit." I said calmly.
Elisa hesitated for a while before finally taking her seat.
"So care to enlighten me what a married woman is doing on a blind date?" I asked nonchalantly as I poured water into her cup.
Elisa shifted uncomfortably for a bit before sighing and grabbing the cup with her two hands.
How cute, I thought to myself seeing her reaction.
I already knew what happened, her mother had narrated everything to me, and maybe because I might have made what happened to actually happen.
Derrick is a man that will limit her potential, I knew it from the first day I saw him.
I was heading to confess my love to Elisa when I found her in the arms of another man, I was pissed, very pissed.
In the end, we had a big fight that made us to cut off contact with each other, actually she cut off contact with me.
"First of all, I'm not here on by my own will I was tricked, also Derrick cheated and we are getting a divorce so I am not exactly a married woman anymore."
I hummed in response and then silence reigned between us, the waiter came to take our order before heading out almost immediately.
I furrowed my brows at the waiters action slightly dissatisfied, everyone has always been scared of me for some reason, it was annoying.
Glancing at Elisa who was frowning at her phone made my heart beat faster than usual, she is the first.
The first woman to treat me like every other human being.
Even my own mother is scared of me, but Elisa? She's never failed to embrace me.
That's why I must try as hard as possible to hide my darkest secrets from her, no matter what it takes.
"Damon? Why are you going on a blind dates? You're attractive enough to have many women swarm around you, so why bother with a blind date?" Elisa questioned after dropping her phone making me tilt my head, staring at her intently.
Under my intense gaze, she flushed red, averting her eyes, "I'm sorry for how I reacted that day." She muttered, oh, she's probably embarrassed.
I hummed tapping my fingers on the table slowly, before deciding to speak.
"My mom forced me as well." I stated simply even if it was a balant lie, I had called Elisa's mom after the woman I hired told me the job is done.
I explained to her "my predicament" of not being able to find a wife when I'm already pushing 30, at that time Elisa was not back home so she was not that enthusiastic to help me out.
After all, compared to other men in the city, The Gilbert family thought of me as the best suited for their family.
By the time Elisa returned, she called me with so much excitement telling me she would arrange a date.
"I know you Damon, you won't come just because your mom forced you." Elisa chuckled, making me stunned, I smiled a bit raising the wine glass to cover my face.
"Well, my grandfather left some inheritance for me, I can't have them till I'm married, you know how women are around me, so that's why I came." I explained.
My carefully fabricated story with a sad face making Elisa frown a bit before glancing at her phone.
"We are friends right?" She asked inching closer towards me over the table.
"Of course." I responded in a dry tone, I didn't want to show my excitement.
"Well, I'm in a similar predicament, my dad is saying he won't let me become the CEO unless I get married." She revealed making my eye twitch.
Maybe I had a role in that too.
For someone who had just gotten out of a failed marriage, I doubted that Elisa would be eager to remarry so I just placed precautionary pieces, who knew they would come in handy.
"Oh." I mouthed faking disbelief, making her nod repeatedly.
"Unfair right? The old man is acting up just because I gave a light punishment to that Derrick guy." She hissed angrily.
My grip on my cup tightened the moment I heard those words, does it mean she is still in love with that-
"How about we get married instead? That way you get your inheritance and I get the CEO position." Elisa proposed.
A frown settled on my face as I pretended to think about it.
"Don't you think it's dangerous, proposing marriage to anyone." I questioned, looking displeased.
So if it wasn't me with her on the blind date would she have proposed to another man like this as well?
"You're not anyone, we've known each other for long now." She argued, pouting her lips.
She looked so cute, I couldn't bare to fight against her anymore.
"Fine." I agreed, looking reluctant.
"Really?" She shot up from her seat excitedly, her hands slamming on the table.
"Really." I confirmed, a soft smile on my face.
She is a diamond, one that has been hidden for too long in the mud, now it was my time to take her, clean her up and make her shine.
"Let's go tell my parents then." She stood up coming over to my side to pull me by arm.
I stood up, towering over her, before patting her hair lightly.
"Careful, there's no need to rush things, besides there's still your divorce to settle." I explained calmly, in reality, If I could, I would most definitely drag her to the courthouse today and marry her instantly.
But she is a queen, and she deserves go be treated like one, so the grandest of wedding must be granted to her.
"My lawyer went to drop the papers today, let's just go." She dragged me out of the room.
Well I let her drag me, because no way a 5'9 foot tall woman, weighing 165 Ibls woman is dragging a 208.1 Ibls man.
"What's wrong?" I asked noticing the way she stopped abruptly.
Following her gaze, I saw her staring at Derrick that had his hand wrapped around that woman.
My heart beat accelerated, what if the woman speaks up and Elisa catches on?
"What are you doing here?" Derrick asked Elisa making me raise my brows, what audacity does he even have to ask that.
Elisa's POV Seeing Derrick standing there with his hand wrapped around his mistress waist made me remember past grievances."Why do you need to know?" I questioned back calmly, ready to leave with Damon when Derrick's snort held me back."You seem to have not gotten over me yet, stalking me like this is uncalled for, I will warn you to stop or I'll file a restraining order against you." Derrick heaved making me sigh inwardly. What exactly did I see in this clueless fool that I fell for him."Why don't you sign the divorce papers first." I stated crossing my arms in displeasure.I had just proposed a marriage deal to Damon, it's best I sort out the divorce issue quickly enough."Divorce? You? Divorce me?" Derrick laughed, unable to believe my words, I'm pretty sure I said it yesterday."You have clung to me for some years now, how do you intend to survive on your own without a job." He jested before pushing his mistress forward."My beautiful Mira here is the cousin to Damon Thorne, w
ELISA'S POV A smile settled on my lips the moment I got the message that Derrick has been fired.I should have stuck around to see his expression, what a shameless man.Shaking my head as I recollected our encounter, I turned off my car, and got down immediately spotting a maid standing at the entrance of the house with my mother pacing about looking worried.Looks like she had disappeared on purpose this morning just so I won't suspect a thing.I should pretend to be mad for a while."Elisa." My mother called out for me in a shaky voice but I just walked past her wearing a fake frown on my face.Dad was sitting in the parlour, although the old man never seems to show emotions, after spending years with him, I could tell he was nervous and impatient.Did my remarriage really bother them that much?Suddenly, my nose felt slightly itchy as the urge to cry overwhelmed me.These people has managed to meet my every needs since I was a child only for me to get older and run away with a goo
DERRICK'S POV"This is bad." Mother exclaimed, sinking into the chair, while I sighed.I had just broken the news of me being fired to her.Mira is upstairs resting, I haven't told her yet, it's best if she doesn't find out, I don't want her to worry and end up affecting the baby."I told you, we shouldn't have brought Mira home." I voiced out, if my mother hadn't insisted I would have just kept Mira out and take care of our child while Elisa stayed here."Why would I watch while my grandchild is out there by himself, no way, I don't care if this is the outcome but I won't change my decision." Seeing the way she argued strongly I sighed."What do we do mom? The shaman said that Elisa is a good luck charm and as long as we have her in this house, things would work out for us, but it's been barely 2 days since she left, and I already lost my job." I lamented with worry. We had no savings, if I can't find a job within the next 3 weeks we're doomed."Your answer is in your own words, jus
ELISA'S POV The introduction was shorter than expected, dad merely just told the board I will be stepping up as the CEO soon and then dismissed me saying I wasn't qualified to be in their meetings yet.On a normal day I would have argued with him but since I still had Derrick to deal with, I just walked out and headed over to his place instantly. The moment he opened the door, I shoved the papers in his face, "The divorce papers." I stated coldly but he just stared at me shocked. It was then I caught sight of the hickeys on his body making me wrinkle my nose, what a pathetic bastard."Let's go in and discuss this." He offered with a surprisingly calm voice which made me stunned, Derrick was never the rational type, that aside why does he still want to discuss this when he is still in the high throes of cheating."There's nothing to discuss Derrick, we are over." I stated firmly in a cold voice.I don't know what game he is playing, I have to be cautious, something feels wrong."If yo
ELISA'S POVI struggled to open my eyes, my mind feeling foggy and clouded."What happened?" I groaned when I saw the unfamiliar dark environment.Trying to stand up, I fell back to the ground, my back hitting the wall hard, that's when I noticed something, I am restrained, and judging by the coldness against my wrist, it was chains holding me down. The memories started flooding in, I had come to drop off the divorce papers with Derrick and then he jumped on me, force feeding me some juice which led to me losing consciousness."Shit." I cursed at my stupidity, I should have brought guards or even my lawyer.I was trying to be careful, after finding out Mira's supposed identity from Derrick, I thought he would not want to let me go if he found out I am a rich heiress. That's why I came myself, who knew the result would end up like this."Oh you're awake." Derrick's voice echoed in the room, followed by the flick of a switch.Soon enough, light flooded the whole room causing me to squin
Damon's POV I stared at Eli's unconscious body laying on the hospital bed, the scene replaying in my head, over and over again, I never expected to be hold unto her in that manner, with blood all over her face and hair."We came as soon as we heard." Elisa's mom rushed into the hospital with a panic stricken face, while I stood up adjusting my expression."What happened?" Elisa's father asked me calmly but underneath I could sense the rage brimming. After all, someone had dared to hurt the Gilbert's heiress, and his precious daughter, his anger is very well valid. With no hesitation I recounted what happened.I heard from her father that she left after the introduction but didn't head home instantly, it didn't take me long enough to figure out she went to Derrick's place. At first I was hesitant on going, but soon it was night time, in the guise of wanting to discuss marriage plans, I went to her home only to find out that she wasn't back yet.Instantly I knew something was wrong.I
ELISA'S POVIt hurts so bad, yet when I felt myself in a warm embrace it made me want to melt away, I don't know to explain the feeling.I would drift in and out of consciousness once in a while to hear the desperate voice pleading for me to stay alive and not to leave. My brain was too hazy for me to make out who's voice it was, but I could tell it was not Derrick's voice for sure.Soon the voice went quiet, everywhere was still and peaceful till I heard my father's angry voice. After much struggle, I managed to open my eyes to see the white roof above me, I am probably in a hospital.Thank goodness.Relief washed over me the moment I realized that I was no longer chained up by that man I called my husband."M...om?" I called out in a croaked voice, her expression lighting up the moment she saw me staring at her. She's so adorable, I thought as she rambled on how I should have taken guards with me, none of that mattered now, I got the papers signed. Wait, I got them signed but it fe
"What are you trying to say?" My dad inquired coming over to my front to shield me from Damon."I plan to marry Elisa, with her ex crazy behavior, who knows the next move he'll make, you shouldn't be dragged into this as her parents, she should stay with me."I glanced at Dad to see his face twisting in both frustration and anger, he was probably conflicted on what to do."Dad, he is right." I said to him softly, as I recollected my mother's reaction just now, maybe staying with Damon might put her heart at ease. After all, to them, Damon and I are getting married because of mutual affection and understanding."Elisa." My dad called out clearly disagreeing.I just shrugged then turned to Damon giving him a smile, "I'll move in with you, but after our engagement banquet.""Okay then." He agreed, "I'll take my leave now." With that announcement, Damon turned around and left. What a strange man..."Elisa are you sure this is what you want?" Dad asked me, using his very rare soft tone."Y
ELISAI finally confessed to Damon, it felt like a heavy burden had been lifted off my chest.Though crying was not part of my plan, I couldn't control it for some reason. As I was about to respond to Damon's reassuring words, I noticed him frown like he was in severe pain.“Damon, are you okay?” I asked, feeling panicked and not knowing what to do.“I'm fine.” He replied, forcing a smile at me before holding me by the waist and placing my head gently against his chest.“Let's just dance to the music, it's your favorite song.” He stated in a dismissive tone, making me worry.“Damon-”“Eli, this is a moment we both want to enjoy, let's just do this with pleasure.” He looked at me with soft eyes before continuing dancing. Why does it sound like he just told me that regardless of what pain he was going through, it didn't matter right now.I shouldn't lie, I wanted this night to last long as well, I mean we just officially confessed to each other and I just accepted Damon, but his health
DAMON“Let's head in.” Elisa said, stretching her hand out for me to take. With a smile, I took her hands trailing behind her as she led me through the stairs.“Everywhere seems empty.” I pointed out and she nodded.“I rented the whole restaurant out.” Her reply came with a smug look.My eyes softened, I watched in silence as she interacted with the waiter who then led us to a table beside the window with a great overview of the city.I sincerely hope everything won't end up with a horrible turn.Especially since it's almost nighttime.“Damon!” Elisa sharp voice drew me out of my thoughts.“Yes?” I looked at her, forcing a smile, I don't want her know what's going on with me, she might start worrying again, or fight with me for making a “stupid” decision.“You were lost in thoughts? Are you okay?” She inquired, concern evident in her voice.Fuck, I made it so obvious.“It's nothing, I'm just admiring the city view.” I brushed it off, pulling her chair back and leading her to have her
DAMONAfter the meeting was over, I rushed down as soon as I could, just stopped a few steps away from the exit door, I stopped trying to regulate my breathing. It might seem awkward if she finds out I ran out here, after ensuring I was calm, I walked out disregarding the looks my employee's gave me.I saw her sedan parked in front and I jogged over, tapping on the window lightly.“Hey.” She greeted me nervously as she rolled down the window, her face full of questions.Well, my thoughtful employees ended things after 10 minutes, giving me the opportunity to come here earlier.“We finished on early.” I answered her obvious question. An awkward silence followed, and I just stared at Eli with the urge to compliment her.She looks so beautiful, I don't even need to see her full fit to know she's stunning. The only problem was that I couldn't compliment her even if I wanted to.Especially after this morning incident, If I gave her any compliments, she might just think I had intentionally
ELISAI parked my car outside the building, contemplating whether I should go inside or not.In the end I decided to give Damon a call, just In case he was busy.“Hey Damon.” I greeted the moment he picked up the call.“Yes?” He answered, I took in a deep breath trying to regulate my heart beat after hearing his voice.“Are you busy?” I asked, my heart beating so loud I could swear passers-by would be able to hear it as well.“Kind of.”“Oh.” Disappointment crushed me, what was I thinking? Of course, he would be busy, I mean he owes a massive conglomerate.I opened my car door ready to leave when his words stopped my movements, he would be done in the next 30 minutes…My excitement and anxiety all rushed back in as shut the car door back, leaning against the car.“Oh okay, finish your work, I'm downstairs waiting for you.”Damon responded with an okay, but I couldn't care less, I hurriedly got into my car bringing out my compact mirror to check my make-up.Just because of the plan I s
ELISA“What's the employee's name?” I asked Amber not wanting to believe that it was Derrick standing in my office lobby.“Thomas.” My heart eased a bit hearing the name, I should really call the doctor to confirm some things.“Good day ma'am.” Thomas turned around to greet me, and I was instantly taken aback. His build looks like that of Derrick's, but his face was seventy percent similar to that of Damon. Was the universe trying to play some funny trick on me or what? Well, newsflash it was not funny, not even the tiniest bit.“Let's head into my office. Amber go get me some coffee, get black coffee this time around.” I dished out orders before walking into my office.Dropping my bag on the table I did a round about sitting down on my chair.“You don't get to sit unless I say so.” I frowned when I saw Thomas already taking his seat.“I'm sorry, ma'am.” He apologized, instantly springing up to his feet. His hand clasped themselves tightly, his whole demeanor screamed nervousness, tha
DAMONI smiled when I got into the house and saw Elisa sleeping on the couch soundly, she must have been waiting for me.Tip toeing, I walked over to her side and tried to pick her up being as gentle as I could. It's really refreshing to come back from a long day of work to see her cute puffy face. Her body shifted in my hold making me gulp nervously, I stared at her lips struggling with every cell in my body not to steal a kiss from her.No, doing it without consent especially when she has not accepted me was bad.I should try and control myself better, what am I even thinking of?She already told me to hang in there so I should try and control myself.I felt Eli struggle against me bringing my attention to her."Did I wake you up?" I asked in a low tone, scolding myself Inwardly, I should be more careful next time."You came very late today." She pointed out, I bit my inner lip trying to control myself from smiling. She was worried about me."I know, I'm sorry, I had to take care of
ELISA "Are you okay?" Damon's face appeared in front of me disrupting my thoughts."Oh I'm fine." I answered but he just pursed his lips placing the food tray he brought on the bed."You are breaking out in cold sweat, do you feel uneasy?" He questioned placing his palm on my forehead."No, no, I'm good I swear it. Thanks for the food." I gestured to the breakfast on the bed trying to change the topic."It's no issue, you should eat then go wash up, I'll go do the same." I nodded at his words and watched as he left sighing. That was a close one, I didn't want him to see me as weird if I divulged my dream to him.I pushed all those thoughts aside and munched on the toast he brought, pushing it down with the hot chocolate.I've got to say, Damon Thorne has quite a talent for cooking, compared to me.When I was done, I head to the bathroom and took a shower.I should call that doctor later on to confirm Derrick's death, my instincts were telling me something was wrong.By the time I was
ELISAI could feel Damon's piercing gaze but I couldn't lift my head to look at him.I probably seem quite pathetic, few months back I told him there is no hope between us and here I am asking him to wait."You know what, forget it." I said, letting his sleeves go, but before my hands dropped, Damon pulled me into his embrace, hugging me tight."I would wait as long as you want me to Eli." He coaxed in a soft voice.I was stunned, the urge to cry overwhelming me, I'm pretty sure my eyes were glossy with tears at this point.Sniffling, I raised my hands slowly hugging him back, my actions causing him to hold me even tighter."Why were you acting that way in the car? I thought you were fed up with waiting for me or something." I voiced out my concerns. One thing I've learned from therapy was that I have to communicate my concerns no matter how odd they were. That way, instead of just guessing their reaction in my head I would be able to deduce their real reaction."Oh no." Damon hurried
ELISAAfter my marriage with Damon, dad kept his promise and stepped down from his position, leaving me to take over as CEO.I wanted to use my "busy nature," as an opportunity to avoid Damon but after that night he offered to drive me to work and back.Ever since then it became a routine, and anytime he came to pick me up he brought a bouquet of roses along. It felt nice being cared for like this, during my relationship with Derrick I had been the one putting all the effort and any small actions he made seemed like a big deal to me.Maybe that's why this felt different.Seeing the familiar black rolls royce parked Infront of the office building made my heart swell with joy."Hey." He greeted me as usual handing me the flowers."Thank you." I took it from his hands my face heating up in the process, as I sniffed the roses to inhale their scents. It's been three months since I broke down completely in front of this man yet he never brought up the matter.Instead he just stuck to my sid
