Audrey's POV "My lady," Eric bowed in front of the throne where I sat. "Eric, what do you have to report?" "It's about your parents who went to the Lycan kingdom," he began. "Everyone leave us alone," I commanded and the guards and maids in the throneroom began walking out. Soon, there was no one around except the guards at the outside entrance to the throneroom and they were out of our earshot. I sniffed the room just to be sure only to realize that I could sense the presence of a werewolf even though there was no one around. "Eric, look around if anyone is nearby," I instructed and he swiftly obeyed. "There is no one around except the guards outside," he reported and I frowned. Were those guards the werewolves I was sniffing? The smell wasn't coming from that direction though, it was coming from the inside entrance. "Did you check the corridor that this door leads to properly?" "Yes, My Lady, no one is there." "Speak then, what is happening in the Lycan kingd
Kendrick's POV I had been walking towards the throneroom when I saw everyone coming out. I immediately asked what was happening and was told that the Queen wanted to have a conversation with her Lycan guard so asked everyone to leave. My first thought was that she was planning something against this pack for her to require privacy which meant that I had to be there. She would probably sniff me out since her wolf was active as a lycan but I still felt like I needed to risk it. Maybe they would be too preoccupied with talking to notice me. Or she wouldn't recognize my scent and mix it up with that of the guards outside. The second seemed very much unlikely so I was just going to hope that the first would happen. As I moved on, I saw Eric walking out of the door leading to the throneroom and stealthily slipped into a room along the corridor. I slowly stuck my head out after several minutes and saw that he was no more in the corridor so strode forward. "... are reluctant to particip
Kendrick's POV I really should stop thinking of Audrey as anything more than my tormentor. Whenever my thoughts shifted even slightly away from that, she always did something to remind me that she was just my tormentor and nothing more. How come I was even able to think of her as a woman for the past few minutes? She had done so many awful things to me in the short period that she had been the ruler of this pack and always expressed her hatred for me whenever she could. Despite how terribly she treated me, there was even the fact that I was married. How could I find some other woman attractive when I didn't even feel that way about my wife? It was already wrong enough for me to think so lowly of my wife romantically and sexually but now I was also thinking of some other woman sexually. It was true that I didn't even imagine much before she stabbed me but still... What if she hadn't distracted me? Would I have had even more erotic thoughts? 'What is wrong with you, Kendrick?
Audrey's POV I sat in the throneroom after a meeting with the werecouncil, extremely bored and thinking about what I could do to entertain myself. I missed my family, both my foster parents and my biological family. I felt really lonely today which I suspected was partly because Kendrick who would have distracted me from such a feeling was gone. I had to let him rest for the remainder of the day and the next day after stabbing him. This was the second day after his injury and I didn't even know whether I was going to summon him today or not as I had ordered him to stay in till I called for him. I needed a new distraction from my thoughts, not just temporarily but for the rest of my stay in this pack as tormenting Kendrick was starting to be torture to me also. I thought for quite a while before I suddenly had a wonderful idea and called out for Eric who rushed in immediately as expected. "My lady," he bowed. "I want to go to the market," I declared and Eric's eyes widened for
Kendrick's POV "Where is Kendrick?" I heard Audrey question in irritation as I walked back into the throneroom after changing my outfit. "I'm here already," I announced and my mouth nearly fell open on seeing her. I couldn't imagine that I had thought that I concealed myself too much when I was dressing up inside. Audrey was the one who was doing that contrary to my beliefs. If not that I had heard her talking when I came in, I would have doubted if it was her and if I had seen her in the market, I would have walked pass her before suspecting it was her. I would not have even concluded that it was her at all unless if I ran into her more times than one. "You don't look so different, I can recognize you immediately," she snarled on seeing me. "I think he looks slightly different actually, you just need to give him a hat in addition to his dressing and it'll be perfect," Eric suggested. "Hats were usually sold at the entrance of the market," she muttered. "I don't know if they st
Audrey's POV I was very uneasy when Kendrick came out after dressing up for our outing looking poorly disguised. I didn't want the people to find out that we were hanging out together at all as they would treat us differently. I wanted to have the real market experience, not the experience of having an entire market sucking up to me so they needed to be fooled by our disguise such that they would not realize that Kendrick and I were together. I walked to the market with him in a hurry, trying to hide my worry that we would be discovered by the people on the streets. I was all too glad when we got to the market and the hat stall was still where I remembered it to be located even though it was a different trader. I selected the most concealing hat for Kendrick and once he tried it out and I found it fully satisfactory, I paid for it and we began walking in the market. I was happy to see all the sights that I had admired whenever my mother took me with her to the market. The place h
Kendrick's POV I hadn't realized that the maze path was so narrow until Audrey and I were to go in together. I had to walk behind her so that we wouldn't be too close to each other. "So this should be the first set of crossroads in the maze," she muttered as we found ourselves facing two paths. "Let's go to the right," I declared and she chuckled. "No, let's go to the left," she countered and my mouth fell open. "How is that even logical?" "I don't know, I just trust my instincts when it tells me that the left path is the appropriate direction to take," she argued. "But the aim is to get to the center of the maze and that is obviously..." "Fine, let's go to the right if that's what you want since you're the one who instigated this second maze journey," she cut me off making me surprised as I didn't expect her to concede so easily or ever concede at all. "I..." "Are you doubting yourself now?" She taunted and that was all it took for me to regain my focus. "Let's g
Audrey's POV My heart was still beating at a faster pace as I continued walking in the maze with Kendrick behind me. We had been so close just seconds ago and just his touch and proximity made my mind start... I couldn't even explain the feeling. "Audrey?" His voice softly spoke up and I could tell that he had something he wanted to talk about but still decided not to let him speak while referring to me as Audrey. "Do you want to die before you stop this habit of calling me Audrey?" I questioned him in a soft but threatening tone. "I'm sorry, Queen Emerald, your old name just slips out sometimes," he muttered. "Why were you trying to get my attention in the first place?" I asked shortly after he stopped speaking, trying to hide my eagerness to hear what he wanted to say. "Oh... I just wanted to ask you something," he slowly revealed. "What do you want to ask?" "I want to know why you care if I have any regret from using my head to take decisions alway," he softly enquired an
