Rosalie
Waking with a start, I reach out a hand to find the only comfort that I want after having my visions. Alexander. He seems to have sensed what the issue was and pulls me into him, holding me against his hard chest.
“Another bad dream?” He asks me sleepily.
“I’m not sure it is a dream Alex. They are so vivid, so real.” I breath through the soaring adrenaline which came as part of the aftermath of my night terrors, as I try to regain control of my heartrate.
“What else could they be?”
“Visions. I am sure of it. It’s always the same thing. The goddess warning me of a great darkness coming. Alex, something bad is about to happen I can feel it in my body. We always knew that the goddess had bigger plans for me, I think that she is making good on her promise.”
“If that is true, my Rosa, then we will face it together. But for now, you must rest. You need to be strong for the baby.” His hand came to rest gently on my midriff. The little surprise which we had never expected.
Having already had four children together, Thomas, Edward and then the twins Melinda and Xander, we had agreed our family was complete. But obviously the universe had other plans, and now three months into the pregnancy, I was undeniably expecting another little Black to add to the brood.
So far, this pregnancy had been very different from the rest. I had been lucky previously; in that I had managed to escape many of the usual symptoms than come with being pregnant. Even with the twin, I never had sickness, or discomfort. But this time, I was making up for it. Bouts of running to the latrine taking me at the most inconvenient of times. It had led us to make the pregnancy announcement much earlier than we ordinarily would. On top of that, I seem to have popped almost as soon as I knew the news. So much so, that Alex teased that I was having twins once more.
But above everything else, the worse symptom was that I had been plagued with dreams. Sometimes I woke just with a bad feeling, while on other nights, I wake having remembered the warning. But until now, I had never woken remembering anything concrete.
“Tenebris.” I said the name out loud.
“Humm?” Alex mumbled.
“The name of what is coming. His name is Tenebris.”
Alex’s weight next to me shuffled as he pulls himself into a more upright position.
“You have never remembered anything like before, are you sure?” He peeks down at me.
“Yes, why do you recognise the name?”
“Perhaps. I don’t really remember…” He looks off into the darkness, trying to recall something from his past. “My mother once talked about a demon that lived in the shadowed lands. A demon that would one day raise the darkness. She said he was called Tenebris.”
I shiver runs down my spine as he spoke. The name alone was enough to plunge shards of ice to my heart.
“Do you think it is connected?” Lifting a hand to his face and using my thump to smooth out the worry lines across his brow.
“I do not know, but I intend to find out.” He lifts himself from the bed, settling a lingering kiss to my brow. “Sleep now, you need to rest. I will come and find you if I find more.”
“Alex…” I call after him. His figuring turning just on the outskirts of the small pool of light the moon emitted through the crack in the curtains. “I love you.”
“I love you too, little mate.” I could hear the small smile in his voice as he called me by one of the few pet names that he liked to use, before silently slipping away.
Disappearing quickly into the dark shadows around the perimeter of the room before I even have a chance to protest. Alex had always been an early riser. Often leaving before I had woken. It was a rare morning I found myself still wrapped in his arms. So, I had grown used to his disappearances to his office in the east wing of the castle.
But for some reason this morning, I felt the loss of my mate. Like every moment in his arms counted. I had no idea why I felt this way all of a sudden. I had never felt this way before. I could only put it down to pregnancy hormones.
I tried to push the feeling from my mind. Alex was right about one thing. I was incredibly tired. And I could feel sleep trying to pull me back into its warm embrace. But despite my weariness, sleep would not come. Only the niggling feeling that I needed to be with Alex.
Eventually giving up on the idea of sleep coming to me again tonight, I drag my body from the bed and pad across the cold wooden boards to the door that led down to the reception quarters of our tower.
Not much had changed in this space since I moved into Castle Black. Perhaps there were a few more feminine touches here and there. But it was still dominated by Alex’s masculine furniture that I had grown to love.
Yet the one thing missing from the space was the man himself.
Deciding he must be in his offices on the other side of the castle. I plod to the door and make my way to the east wing.
By the time I reach the heavy oak door, my feet were blocks of ice. And my body ached from the early morning exertion.
I push open the door to reveal the face of the one person I had hoped to never have to see again. A face that stoked a jealousy in me like none other. Despite the passage of time.
The foreign beauty, who never seemed to age a day.
“Estelle?” I question, taking in her sneering face and that of my mates behind her. “What are you doing here?”
The Germanic witch turned to look at me in a slow motion. Her face betraying the sheer annoyance of having been summoned in the dead of the morning. She came to stop directly in front of me. No move to bow of even show a modicum of respect due to me as her Queen and Luna, but this had come to be expected of Estelle.
“Rosalie.” She drawled.
Rosalie Estelle had once been the bane of my existence. Baying for my crown and doing her best to push me away from Alex. Thankfully, none of her exploits had worked. And eventually, even she, the Germanic witch, had managed to find true love herself, despite everything. Estelle had rarely set foot back into Castle Black in the years that followed. And if she did, she certainly didn’t show her face into court. “Estelle is here to answer some questions.” Alex spoke before Estelle could answer for herself. She didn’t even flinch at his tone. Just carried on eyeing me with a smug grin plastered to her face. There was no reason why Estelle’s presence should affect me the way it did. She was hardly a rival anymore. But there was something about her assumed superiority of me. And the very fact that she knew secrets about me that no one else did, was enough for me to dislike her. “Questions about what?” I ask, moving into the room and around the large office table to stand behind Alex. Es
Rosalie It had not been a difficult task getting Estelle and Henry Byron to except their summons to court. Luckily enough, the castle was in full swing of getting ready for the mid-summer celebrations. And I am sure, if nothing else, the Byron’s took the invite as them being the VIP guests of the event. As Alex had pointed out, Estelle had never actually been dismissed from my service as a ladies-maid, and as much as I disliked the idea of her being anywhere near me, let alone wait on me, it left an ideal opportunity to try and glean some more information out of her regarding the Tenebris matter. But any hope of this soon seemed to vanish when she failed to attend on me at all through the day. The few moments during the day that I caught a glimpse of the statuesque blonde, she disappeared going out of her way to avoid me. “Somethings never change.” A dear voice spoke from behind me. Turning from my position by the window, I look towards my friend Lucille seated by the unlit firepl
It was said many moons ago that Tamara, the first witch in the Walker blood line, fell in love with a mere human. The coven was known as the Votadini then. They had settled in what was the small village of Alauna, or more commonly known as the city of Edinburgh in more recent history. Tamara was the daughter of the coven elder. A man of great power and respect. It was he that created the Coven of Votadini. Amadeus was one of many who had been turned away from his own village after showing signs of unworldly gifts. Magic was rich in the lives of everyday people, the air we breathed was considered to be magic. Growing crops and flowers was believed to be magic. Magic brought riches that no one could explain, but it was also a dark time to be alive. Demons wondered the earth freely, destroying all that stood in their paths. Sickness and plagues devoured whole villages and destroyed livelihoods, all set about by a witch casting a curse, or allowing a stranger to pass over the threshold.
Tamara “You lied to me.” My voice broke in my mouth, coming out as a whimper. I looked to the man who was my husband. His kindness and generosity of spirt, were all things I had fallen in love with. He was the most beautiful man I had even laid eyes on, and yet here he was, his true form. All I could see was the monster within. The man I knew never existed. It was all a clever rouse. One that left me heart broken and lost. “No, Tamara, you have to believe me. My feeling for you were never a lie.” He stepped forward in his monstrous form. The leathery wings at his back brushing passed the lifeless corpse of my father as he stepped over. His hands came to rest in front of him, clasped together as he pleaded his case further. His fingers had elongated and taken on the form of long sinewed talons. His face was different too. Gone was the carefree glint I so often found in his eyes. Instead, there was something sinister staring back. Dark veins worked their way up his neck and around hi
Rosalie “Tamara banished the demon to a realm that no one could enter. And no one, least of all Tenebris could leave. She cursed him to live in solitude, whilst she lived on the outside, a full and happy life I can only assume. And when she passed away, so too did any chance of Tenebris enacting his evil on the world.” Estelle brough her story to a close. A story which had opened far more questions that it hoped to answer. “If this is the case, and Tenebris was really vanquished when Tamara passed away. Then why now am I dreaming of his resurrection?” This was the one part of the story that did not add up for me. “I only know of the legend. Tamara came from old druid magic. A dark blood magic. Unlike my own earth magic. Blood magic comes at a price and often comes with strings attached. There are often conditions that not even the caster will know about until it is all too late. I would assume that Tenebris found a loophole, a way to escape being vanquished.” “But that would mean
Rosalie I felt exhausted. The day had been long, and I had been given so much information I felt that my brain would burst at any moment. As dire as the situation with Tenebris may seem, I had now been given some small measure of hope with a name and location of someone who may be able to help. All I needed now was to follow the lead Estelle had given me and hope that it led somewhere in the realms of helpful. I had stopped in with the children on my way to bed. I had made a habit of being there to read a bedtime story and help get them settled for the night. It was my small piece of normal amongst what was otherwise a very abnormal life. Teddy especially liked being tucked in at night. And the twins enjoyed cuddles. By the time I finally found myself falling into bed, I was beyond exhausted. My back ached, and my feet were beginning to swell with having been on them most of the day. Pregnancy, it has to be said, was hardly as glamourous as I was led to believe when I was younger,
Rosalie My breath was coming in short, fast intakes. My heart hammering as I come down from my orgasm. Alex’s lips continuing their lazy assault as they wonder up and down the length of my neck. “Go and kneel on the edge of the bed.” He whispers, his voice taking on a husky edge, his eyes weighing heavy on me as they peer at me over my shoulder and through the thick locks of my red hair in the mirror. I couldn’t help but notice how flushed and wanton I looked. The perfect picture of a woman in lust. Although he had all but crippled me with his touch, he had left me wanting more. The evidence of his own arousal sitting heavy against my backside. With one last kiss to the shoulder, he pushes me gently in the direction of the bed. With three unsteady steps, I do as he asks, and kneel on the bed, my feet dangling off the edge waiting in anticipation for what was to come. He wasted no time in getting his clothes off. The sound of fabric being ripped over his head and thrown to the
Alexander “What?” I managed to bite out between my teeth. I was all that I could think to say. Over the last six years, being mated to a headstrong woman had often been difficult. Especially one that didn’t even belong to his time. She had her own ideas and views. She wasn’t used to being timid and demure, allowing the men to fend for her, or considering themselves better than women in general. Don’t get me wrong, I loved it about her. If I wanted a wife who would allow herself to be walked over and smile prettily and just agree with everything I said, I would have married years before Rosalie ever made an appearance. Rosalie challenged me. She has been a partner in wit and fierceness, not just in name. And I would never dream to change it about her. But there were times. Times such as these, where I wished that she would just show some sign of good sense rather than charging in headfirst. “I cannot,” I begin, sitting up from the bed abruptly, my eyes narrowing to scowl at her a
Estelle The dank smell of decay assaulted my senses as I climb down the steep steps. The slick stones beneath my feet threatening to send me toppling with one small miss-step.“I hate this place.” I mutter. Righting my footing yet again as a stone crumbles out from beneath me, sending a wave of small stones rattling down into the gloom below. This place had always reminded me of death.Even as a little girl, when my father had brought me here for the first time, an excitable ten year old girl, surrounded by my brother’s. Eager to see the Schmidtz family vault. The source of our powers, and a historic linage that could be traced back to the awakening of magic. I realised that this place was far from the fairytale tower of my dreams. Our family had held to the old ways. And it wasn’t until the fateful day that my father presented me at the Malificus Acus that I realised just what that meant.Blood.Sacrifice.Pain.Everything that I cringed back from at such a tender age.I couldn’t und
RosalieIt didn’t take long before the whole pack was aware of news about our expanding family.Just in the short distance from his home to the pack house, it felt like we bumped into every member of the pack in turn. The afternoon seemed to go by quickly. And the pack members seemed to amass at the pack house, all gathering around to wish us well.If it weren’t for the niggling feeling in the pit of my heart, then everything would have been perfect.By the time the sun was beginning to set in the sky, I found myself getting ever the more weary. Seeking the refuge of the evening air, I found myself walking out onto the patio, watching the sun setting in the sky. A glass of non-alcoholic prosecco left untouched on the garden wall as mull over the pain I was feeling deep inside.“Rosie?” Landon came to stand behind me, his strong arms wrapping around me from behind, drawing me into his warmth.I went willingly. Relishing the way my body fitting into his. How his slightly heightened core
RosalieThe gate squeaked with a vulgar cry, the sort of high pitch groan that wrang right through your brain setting your teeth on edge.Cringing against the sound, I wasn’t surprised to find the front door swinging open only moments later.“So much for surprising you.” I walk the short distance up the path to the front door of Landon’s home. He was situated just down from the main pack house in the Beta’s cottage. He had grown up here. It belonged to his family before they had been killed, and was gifted to him by Alpha Richard when he came of age. His formative teenage years he has grown up in the pack house under the care of Jo and Richard.“Sorry, I have been meaning to fix that.” He eyes the gate with an embarrassed frown, his hand reaching up to scratch the back of his head as a pale red blush crept up his neck.“On the plus side,” I try to break the awkwardness that had settled between us, “at least you won’t ever get caught out doing something you shouldn’t be!”That was it.
Rosalie Summer was finally here. And feeling the warmth on my face was bliss. Finally reconciling to the idea of my own time, being my future, had been a difficult one. But none the less, I seemed to have found a new rhythm.I hadn’t been ready to fully commit myself to falling headlong into a new relationship. And Landon had been immensely patient with me.No longer wanting to feel a burden to Alpha Richard and Luna Jo, who had taken on responsibility of the pack whilst Drake and Steph took some time for themselves in the wake of all that had happened. I had made the decision to move out of the pack house. It was in Rose Cottage that I found my new normal. It had been difficult at first. Moving into what was my former home. A home which I had made with Alexander and our children. But after the first few months, I found myself now finding comfort in the memories I found here. Some modernisations into the new age, and it starting to feel like a home worthy of times I found myself. It
AlexanderI stood in the midst of the carnage around me.My face taking in the blood-soaked field surrounding me impassively. Bodies littered the ground densely. Heads decapitated; limbs ripped from the sockets. Those unfortunate ones that had now been delivered a deathly blow, lay limp on the ground, crying out in pain. Unable to stand up and leave the battle ground under their own steam, they would eventually succumb to a bittersweet end. Their open wounds would eventually become infected, and they would die miserable and in pain as their blood turned to poison in their veins. That is, if hunger did not get there first.Try as I might, I could not feel anything for the miserable souls lying on the ground. This war had raged for two years. Two years of battle and blood. When one battle was fought, the next would begin. All amassing here, at Castle Black. The blood-soaked ground would never be the same again.I watched as great pyres were built to dispose of the bodies. Pile, upon pil
RosalieI followed the rocky path in the moonlight. Wrapping my arms about myself trying to stave off the chilly evening air.I hadn’t come dressed for such an outing. But I couldn’t put it off any longer.Thorns snagged at my jeans and jumper as I kept walking, determined to get where I needed to go. I barely felt the little scratches as I pushed on forwards.By the time the stone circle appeared before me, the crescent moon was almost at its peak. The bright white slither looking down on me and lighting up the clearing with ease. It seemed especially large tonight.“You don’t get to choose my path for me!” I shout at the sky. I had no idea if she would hear me or not. I guess I am no longer her daughter. I am merely a human.I waited, perhaps for an answer, but none came.Taking a deep breath, I stepped forward, one foot in front of the other until I came to the central alter stone. Placing a hand on the hard, cold surface and waited.I am not sure what I was expecting. Even after t
RosalieI woke up to a blinding light coming through the window. Blinking in the early morning sun, using my own hand to shield my eyes from the blinding sun.As my body caught up with the rude awakening, I slowly became more aware of the ache radiating through my body. Every inch from my neck down to my pelvis felt abused. My mind slowly caught up with itself. And for a moment in a blind panic, I realised what happened the day before.Sitting up with a start, looking over to the empty side of the bed.He was gone. Landon was not there. I reached out a hand and felt the sheets. They were cold. He had been gone for some time.Wrapping my bedsheet about my naked body, taking in the wrecked bookcase, the contents now littered over the bedroom floor, I moved to the mirror. Taking in my apparent, “just fucked” appearance. My hair held an uncanny resemblance to a bird’s nest, my lips puffy and red. I should have been aware of how fragile my human body was without the protection and healing
Rosalie“Don’t stop!” I gasp, as he suckled on my collar bone and over my breast. I could feel everything right down into the pit of my stomach. And I could feel myself growing slick under his touch.“Fuck Rosie, you scent is so fucking amazing.” Landon all but growled, his teeth clenching as my top was ripped from my torso and discarded in a pile of rags on top of the broken bookcase. His large hand pushed aside the cup of my bra and fondled the delicate skin of my nipples. His teeth grazing them in turn with want, teasing each peak to a point.“Ohhh!” I moan my hips thrusting towards him, looking for more. “Landon, please.” I moan, begging him for something. I wasn’t sure what, but I just knew I needed more.Landon seemed to know exactly what I wanted without the need to be told. In the next moment, I found myself pulled away from the wall and laid out onto the soft covering of the bed. The rest of my clothes easily discarded so I was laid out in nothing by my underwear. My boobs po
RosalieSilence. That was all I could hear.Silence.It was deafening. It had been a fortnight since Tenebris had been vanquished.Since Steph had been killed. The Eclipse pack was in full mourning for the loss of a daughter. And there seemed to be no end to it. Not that I hoped for an end to it.I simply couldn’t bring myself to believe it was real.Steph had died saving me. And the guilt that surrounded me was overwhelming.“Rosie?” There was a gentle knock on the door. I turned to find Landon stood in the doorway, a tray of food in his hands. “Rosie, you need to eat something. It has been days.”He was right. I hadn’t eaten more than a mouthful of anything since it happened. Nothing tasted right. He all just felt like ash in my mouth.Landon had been patient with me. Even though he was in mourning himself. He still made sure to look after me. I was grateful for him. With him by myside life was a little more bearable.“Alpha Richard has declared that the pack begin to move out of mo
