Gabriel would not leave her alone and was determined to send her letters every other day and not to mention the series of phone calls he made to her house. Catherine was fed up with this and sent him a warning that if he continued with this madness, then she would file a restraining order against him.

Thankfully, Benjamin didn't want her to marry him, either. He thought Gabriel was too young to be married to her, as he was only a year older than Catherine. He wouldn't prove to be a better suitor for her, no matter how much he bragged about it.

Each day, the bond Catherine had with baby Alex grew even stronger. She was always busy coddling and pampering her baby with dresses she had made herself. Even when she was working at home, she had the baby on her lap, never letting her out of sight.

"Say Mamma." Catherine cooed. The baby gave a toothless grin and wiggled her hands.

"Come on, Alex. Say Mamma." She tried again.

"M-m-mama."

Catherine's heart filled with immense delight that s

For days, Catherine refused to talk to Benjamin. She shut herself inside her room and her depression had gotten worse. There was a suicidal thought haunting her day and night, and the hollowness in her chest kept getting bigger and inevitable to ignore. Eventually, she stopped spending time with her baby, too. Other than to breastfeed, she wanted nothing else to do with the baby and let Margaretta do the mothering work for her. Catherine began having nightmares about the night she was violated and like arsenic, it was making her sick. So sick that she felt hostile toward her child. Scared that if she warmed up to the baby again, then Alessandro would reappear in her life.Gabriel stopped his persistence in wanting to marry her and she, for once, dreaded he was over her. To test this, she invited him for tea to ask if he still wished to marry her. "Yes! Cathie, yes!" Gabriel said, thrilled. He was wearing a ridiculous-looking shirt with tropical patterns and black bell bottoms. His

The wind fluttered the purple ribbons affixed around Catherine's sun hat as she drank her evening tea with biscuits. She was taking her time to relax after an hour of work watering and cleaning up the vegetable garden. These days, she preferred to do gardening in her spare time and she had a lot of spare time. "Ahh!" The tea nearly spilled on her jean-clad lap when she heard the scream. She pivoted her head and looked over her shoulder. "What happened?" She asked. Then she heard Anastasia wailing as if she was in great agony. "Mama!" Catherine shot to her feet and ran outside the pavilion to check what was wrong. To her horror, she saw Anna sprawled on the ground, wailing while Alex pulled her hand."Alex! Stop it this instant!" Catherine shouted, her face red with anger. "What happened here?" Catherine asked."She asked me to push the swing and... she fell," Alex said, guiltily looking down. "She pushed me on purpose! I told her to stop, but she didn't listen." Anna cried, tea

The night weighed heavy on her like a wet blanket. She lay on the bed, curled up in a fetal position while she undid her past in her head. She couldn't tell when exactly Catherine began hating her. All these years, she had blamed her father for it; partly, he was the reason.Right?Worn with pain and exhausted from the prolonged hardships life had made her endure until this very night, she let herself be devoid of any emotions. Her heart clenched and unclenched painfully in her ribcage, but she loosened her body and let herself calm down. She needed a calm mind to think things through. She needed to sleep. Just as she closed her eyes, the door opened. She heard the familiar footsteps. Heavy but careful. Her back was turned away from the person. She couldn't see who it was, yet she guessed it. "Jonathan?"She felt the bed dip as he lay beside her.The sheets rustled as he closed the distance between them and circled an arm around her waist. Seeking some warmth, she pressed her nake

Jonathan blinked when the sun's rays hit him like the heavens were descending on him. One thing he hated about the penthouse—no curtains. He should undoubtedly get some blinds to shut off the blaring lights in the mornings so they could have some undisturbed sleep. His eyes were still closed as he smiled and reached over to embrace his wife, but something jack-knifed him when he met with cold sheets. He immediately got up and noticed she wasn't there."Alex?" He called out. A cold tension washed over his body like ice water. He opened the bathroom, and it was vacant. He then hurried downstairs and was stopped in his tracks when he heard a low humming sound. 'Fly me to the moon and let me play among the stars..."He was taken aback hearing the hypnotic sound that pulled him towards the kitchen. A breath of relief left his lungs when he saw her. She was immersed in her own world as she flipped the pancake expertly in the pan. It was so satisfying to see her enjoying her own company.

Jane knocked twice on the door. “May I come in?”Halton glanced up from his laptop and lifted a bright smile, acknowledging the person. “Jane, come in.” He said. “How’s everything going?” He inquired. That’s how he was. From time to time, he forgot he is the VP and acted like he was one of them. Asking them about their day, helping with their work and being an overall amicable human being.Jane tried to replicate his cheerfulness by smiling back but failed as she hesitantly stepped inside with clumsy legs, almost tripping over the threshold of his office. “What’s wrong?” Halton asked, perceiving her tenseness. “Ma’am has asked for you,” Jane said, licking her bottom lip nervously. “And she is in a bad mood since this morning.”Halton snickered. “What’s there to be so scared of?” He waved the fountain pen in his hand. “What is she going to do? It’s been days since Anastasia phoned, and Catherine was worried sick. Whenever she attempted to call her, it was dead or unreachable. Maybe Anna had crippled her phone, but she could have still called her using the phone in their residence. And surely Kameron could afford a new phone for her. Something wasn’t right and the more she brooded over it, the more her heart weighed heavy in her ribs. So one morning, Catherine called the residence. It was a maid named Patricia who picked up the phone first, and Catherine politely asked her to pass the call to Anastasia. “H-hello? Mama?” Anna’s scared voice came on the line.“Sweets! Oh my god, why are you crying?”“I don’t want to stay here anymore. H-he--““Ah, mother-in-law!” Kameron’s gravelly voice grated in her ear. “My greetings.” He said.“Give the phone back to my daughter!” Catherine shouted. “Or I’ll fucking kill you. The next morning, Catherine arrived at Kameron's mansion. She didn't care to give any former notice before coming here, nor did she have the luxury to be polite. All she wanted was to see her daughter. “Let me see her,” Catherine said to the head maid of the household.“I’m afraid we may not let you in,” Patricia responded with a stoic face. She was clearly not happy to see Catherine and was trying her best to warn her off as politely as she could. Catherine's eye bore into her dangerously, hoping to intimidate her way in. Just then, heavy footsteps closed in both of the women turned their heads to the man of the house. “Mrs. Roberts. What a pleasant surprise.” Kameron greeted with a foxy smile. He was wearing a black suit that would cost a fortune. It was obvious he was getting ready to leave for work. “Where is she?” Catherine questioned. Kameron snorted as he casually adjusted his cufflink. “She is upstairs in our room. Let me escort you.”Catherine was wary of him. He was a p

One could hear in the bleak eerie hallways of the asylum the clattering of chains, as a man dragged it through the metallic floor. His black-and-white striped prisoner’s clothing had bloodstains on it. His pace was slow and wobbly because of the heavy chains attached to his legs and hands and bound skin rotting off along the rusting metal.“Sir, we brought him,” the guard said and looked keenly at the captive. He ducked his head, his lips drawn into a straight line, his eyes covered with his overgrown bangs so they could only see only the white portion of his eyes through it.“Good, bring him in.”The guard pushed open the interrogation room. A person inside could not see or listen to what was outside. The captive was silent the whole time, his eyes still down, looking at the guard’s legs as he followed and another guard closely stalking behind. In the middle of the dim room, there was a light bulb just above the wooden table, the only source of light in that entire room, with two cha

The soft silk sheets rustled as Alexandra stretched her arm to cuddle her husband. Her core was still sore from the slow-burning, passionate sex they had all night long. The only source of light was the pale yellow lightbulb hanging above his head.He felt brainless, as one would get when drunk on spirit. He tried to recall where he was before ending up in this place. No one. “I am-,” Her voice had died out. She couldn’t ignore the pain in her throat. “Save that for the vows,” Kameron warned. He approached for a closer look at his bride, whose eyes were still glued to herself in the mirror. It was then he realized how beautiful she looked in the ivory white wedding dress. The makeup artist concealed all the wounds and bruises he had given her under that makeup. Her eyes seemed so clear and pure. She resembled Catherine physically, but her personality leans on the contrary. She wasn’t brave, nor had she had the unwavering disposition
