Elva’s POV
“You are going to be his bride in a few days,” mother teased as I pulled my hair into a bun. I shrugged, Nolan had yet to mention anything about us getting married.
But knowing that he was going to become Alpha in the next three days, I was sure it was going to happen eventually. As his fated mate, I was going to become Luna beside him.
Just the thought of that was overwhelming, but I’d do it anytime because it was him. My fated mate.
“Let’s go,” I told Nolan who was seated and talking with dad and Jake as soon I stepped into the living room. After three years of dating, everyone was used to the both of us spending time together and so neither father nor Jake said anything as we held hands and left the house.
“Something about you seems off today,” I say, breaking the silence that we had maintained since we stepped out of the house.
Nolan stopped, leaning against a tree with his arms folded across his chest.
“I’m breaking the mate bond between us.” Nolan declares, surprising me.
Breaking the mate bond?
“What are you playing out?” I tried to search his face for any giveaway that he was joking about. That he was trying to get a reaction out of me.
But his face is blank and devoid of any emotions. My smile falters as I realize that Nolan isn’t joking.
“Using the power of the sky and forest as my witness, I Nolan Blackwell, son of Nathaniel Blackwell hereby break the bond with Elva Williams.” Nolan declared.
“What are you doing? You can’t break the bond!”
“Say that you accept the rejection, Elva!” Nolan growled, his eyes changing from the familiar blue to a darker shade I couldn’t pick out.
His words however were like a dagger piercing through my heart. Everything was fine between us. So why did he want to break the mate bond?
“Nolan..” I manage to call out, my heart clenched with pain from his rejection making it hard to breathe or even talk.
“You are nothing different from a weak human. How can my Luna be a weakling?” His words poked at my weak spot. My biggest insecurity.
“I...I would get my transformation soon. I’m a late bloomer, that’s all.” I grabbed his arm, surely he had to understand that I was just a little late.
My older brother already had his transformation and I was just a few years behind. There was no way I wouldn’t transform when both of my parents were werewolves too.
And as soon as I got my transformation, I wouldn’t be weak anymore.
“Nolan.. just wait a little more for me,” I rush to add, hoping that somehow, I would be able to change his mind.
I didn’t want to throw away my three-year relationship with him just because I was a late shifter. We were already mates and I was confident that my wolf was right on the way.
He scoffed like I was telling him something unbelievable.
“Late shifter? It’s been three years, Elva! Even if there’s some wolf in you. It would be an omega wolf. It makes no difference.” His words were laced with disgust.
“O..omega.??”
Before I can say anything more, Nolan’s hand grasped my neck and slammed my back at the nearest tree.
“You have risked so many wolves’ lives in saving anytime you are in danger. How can you be their Luna when you can’t even save yourself?”
“I would only say this one more time, Elva. Accept the rejection. I’m done with being your mate.”
My eyes got blurry from the tears that were building up. Staring into his eyes that were filled with scorn and irritation while his hands held me up, I gave in to his wishes.
“I accept your rejection, Nolan Blackwell. With the moon goddess as our witness, there will be no more mate bond between us from today.” Right after I said it, Nolan let go of me abruptly and I slumped to the ground while he also fell backward, clutching his chest and groaning miserably from whatever pain the bond breaking was causing.
Good for him.
If he wasn’t the future Alpha of our pack and how much I still loved him at this moment, I would have wished that he died in the pain.
The pain he brought on us both.
I didn’t even know where exactly my greatest pain was coming from and as I struggled to stand up, my knees gave out on me and I fell back to the floor.
Tears that I had been struggling to hide from Nolan fell down from my eyes as pain burst through my knees.
However, I wanted to be away from him more than anything. So despite the overwhelming pain in the lower part of my body, I stood up, wobbling a little until I got my balance.
Earlier, Nolan and I had walked into the forest which was a little distance from the pack houses but as father was an elder of the pack, our house was closer to the forest.
The full moon was already peeking out beneath the night sky and that had everyone in high spirits to celebrate the first full moon we were having in months.
No one noticed as I trudged ahead and when I finally arrived at the front of our home, I heaved a sigh of relief.
Instead of using the front door, I went to the back door because if my father and mother saw me in this state, they would raise definitely make me say what happened.
“John, don’t you think it’s weird that Nolan came asking about Elva the other day? He asked as if he knew already.” Mother’s familiar voice rang out.
I stop in my tracks, leaning against the wall to make sure that I wasn’t discovered while eavesdropping.
Knew what?
Father’s disinterested voice rang out next and I felt my world come crashing from his reply,
“How can he know, the only person that knows we aren’t her parents already died, he’s probably just worried since she hasn’t shifted…” he paused as if thinking of his next words.
Heart in my mouth, I listened, hoping that his next words would let me know that this was a joke, that he was just pulling my mother’s legs.
“….Also, her recent performance in the pack training has been appalling, everyone is getting suspicious.”
“What if she’s just human, John?”
“That’s impossible, the mate bond is something from the moon goddess, she can’t give it to a human. Elva is just a late shifter, you would see.” Father replied confidently.
My hands covered my mouth as I tried to fight the urge to cry out loud.
What was going on? I wasn’t father and mother’s daughter??
If I wasn’t their daughter then the chances that I was just human were very high. So high that I was sure about it now.
Nolan was right. I was no werewolf.
“Let’s join the pack for the celebration, I’ll try to see if Nolan knows something he shouldn’t,” father said and his footsteps allowed me to know that he had stood up.
I stayed glued to where I was. My mouth covered my mouth so that I didn’t alert both of them of my presence.
When the door finally slammed shut, my shoulders slumped in defeat as I allowed my already weak body to fall to the floor.
My Father and mother weren’t my parents. I pinched my wrists like my life depended on it. Because this had to be a dream.
Everything was just a big bad dream that I was going to wake up from. But the pain from my pinch was all I needed to know that this wasn’t a dream.
It was all real.
Which meant that I didn’t belong in this pack. In this world that is all, I have ever known.
Thinking of all the times that father and mother had cajoled me by saying I was just a late shifter, I felt so stupid.
So so stupid.
How did I never realize this? Not only did I not look anything like my parents, the strength that father and Jake had as shifters was one of the best in our pack.
It was hard to believe that as their ‘daughter’, I was such a later bloomer. Only, I had never thought about it because they truly treated me like their own.
Even if I wasn’t.
“Noooo!!” Another wave of pain tore through my body and I screamed out, allowing myself to express how much pain I was in. I held on to the staircase railing for support while sweat dripped from every part of my body.
I didn’t know which hurt more. The pain of knowing that everything, every single thing I had believed all my life was a lie or the pain from the mate bond that I had just severed.
But I couldn’t be mad at my parents. If anything, they had saved me when I couldn’t save myself and I couldn’t help but imagine how much danger they would be in if the pack discovered them for keeping me, a human.
While I was bent over in pain, howls of wolfs rang out in the air, informing me that the moon was out in the night sky already. Every night like this, I had always longed for my wolf. Prayed to the moon goddess to awaken my wolf.
But now, I knew there was no wolf to be awakened. I wasn’t a late shifter.
I was human. A human that was making people risk their life just to keep me alive.
Yes, Nolan was right, I had risked too many lives by making them save me several times when we were out in the woods.
I didn’t want to keep being a burden.
As soon as I stepped outside the house, I felt the pain from the mate bond rejection leave me, and my shoulders sagged with relief.
But I didn’t stop my steps.
Tonight, I was going to end all of this.
After now, father and mother would not have to worry about me not shifting. And no one would have to watch my weak ass anytime we were training in the woods.
Because, after now, I wasn’t going to exist anymore.
Nolan’s POVPain seared through me from the mate bond that had just been broken.I looked around the bustling pack center, my eyes searching for the familiar figure of Elva. She was hard to miss.Elva’s beauty was the type that wasn’t hard to miss and on more than one occasion, we have had some rogues attack us because of how attractive she was.But that was the problem. Being that beautiful and weak was trouble-seeking. I had dreams of expanding the pack when I become Alpha. We could make as many rogues as possible submit to us and join the pack.A man like me, destined to stand above others couldn’t have a Luna that was as weak as Elva. And so when the pain tore through me one more time, I clenched my fists tightly, determined to not let it show. For the last two years, I have tried to overlook all my suspicions of Elva being human. There were many cases of late transformation. But with Elva, it was different. It didn’t feel like there was some wolf lying dormant in her.She smelled
Elva’s POVPain. That was the first thing I made sense of and as I struggled to open my eyes, I tried to remember the numerous folklores that we have read on death. Was I supposed to feel pain when I lost my mortal body?My eyes finally opened and made contact with plain white ceilings. I look around, at the room that was made of gold decorations and white paintings. “The afterworld sure is beautiful,” I murmured and then tried to sit up. “Princess! You are awake!” Two voices rang out from behind me. Startled, I turned to see two beautiful women standing behind me. “Princess?” It was odd enough that I felt as human as ever in the afterworld. But I was now a princess? “Yes, you are our Zedia’s Kingdom Lycan Princess” one of the two women said while the other one rushed out of the room. “Where am I?” I struggled to ask, my hands rushing to hold my head as intense pain shot from my head to my spine. Before she could reply, the door opened and a middle-aged woman rushed in. “Oh! My
Elva’s POV “Elva? What’s the matter?” Lydia asked as she grabbed my hands in her warm hands. Her reaction only made me cry even harder as the genuine warmth swirling in her eyes made me sad at all the years I have missed with her. Thoughts of how much I have missed out on when I could have been with them made me want to cry even more but looking at their worried faces, I finally got my emotions under control. “I... I thought I was human and didn’t have any wolf in me..” I explained, partly expecting them to laugh at my silly excuse. But Lydia did the opposite. “Oh my darling! See what your incompetence has caused to our daughter!” Lydia said and punched her husband lightly before she turned to me. “Elva, we are different from werewolves. Your beast form only gets awakened when you reach eighteen and from then on, it takes another two years for the entire transformation process to finish,” “Two years?” After living with werewolves for the past nineteen years, I had grown accustom
Nolan’s POV I could not tell if it was hurt from the mate bond or the pain of not seeing Elva but I was far from okay. Worried was an understatement as I was even more worried something might be wrong with her. What if she was really dead? What if… No. I shook my head. I was not going to let such thoughts dominate my mind. I was not going to allow such thoughts to mess with my reasoning. I let out a sigh as I turned to her parents. “Be calm. We will find her” I answered. I was not sure if I was assuring them or myself, but I really hoped we would find her. “Of course, she is safe” John nodded. He seemed to be so much assured that she was fine. His wife on the other hand had become an emotional mess. Even though she had tried to not act scared or look worried, her emotions failed her and it was boldly written all over her face. I took a final glance at the cliff and turned to leave. I really wished she was not in there. “Take your wife home. I believe she needs to rest. I will fi
Elva’s POV The sudden change in time, a new development happening in just a short period of time, and it still all felt like a dream that I had to pinch myself severally to be sure it was not all a dream, and each time, I confirmed that it was not a dream. A ray of hope lit up my heart as I was assured I could really be happy again with no fear. My mind traveled to Nolan and even though I really missed him, I had to push the thoughts aside. He was the last person I wanted to think of. Somehow, I was grateful to him because if he had not rejected me, I would not have decided to jump off the cliff and I would definitely not have been found. Mother and Father had left together, holding themselves in each other’s hand as Mother had insisted she wanted to specially make the meal I would have first while Father had agreed to accompany her. I pushed the window open and basked in the comfort of the ray of the moon. It seemed like the moon goddess had finally smiled at me and decided to
ELVA’S POV “Go get her,” Father nodded to the guards who were stationed beside us as we ate. All of them made a U-turn and matched toward the throne door with immediate effect. No one dared waste a second before executing Father’s command. The huge metal door swung open and the guards matched out of the throne room. Not long after they had left, they came marching back into the throne room in twos, with a beautiful pink-haired girl behind them. About ten steps before the dining table the soldiers stopped and made a walking path between them for the pink-haired girl. She caught a loose tendril of her pink hair between two fingers and tucked it back behind her ear, igniting a warm smile on her face as she began to walk slowly, her hips swaying. I gently dropped my fork on the table as I watched her approach us in the most elegant manner. Her slender body behind that cherry red gown she wore, the fluid motion of her elegant catwalk, her light and graceful smile. Everything about her
ELVA'S POV The moment Selena sat down, Lucius came walking in through the door. "Princesses!" His vibrant youthful voice rang cheerfully as he bounced in. His demeanor was so different from what it normally was. Maybe he had an alter ego because as much as I could remember, he had always been a serious person, carrying his sword about looking for someone to train with. But today, having returned from training and taken his bathe, his spirit seemed different as he was dressed in a casual turtleneck shirt and had no armor anywhere on him. He noticed the surprised look on my face and smiled. "Are you surprised that I came out this fast?" He asked me. "Kinda... Yeah..." I stuttered cause it hadn't been up to six minutes since we met him returning from training. He came to a stop and cleared his throat, and I could sense he was about to boast of one thing or the other. Probably about how he does things as a MAN. "As a warrior," he began, putting his two arms on his waist, slightl
NOLAN’S POV“I, Nolan Feuggman, heir to the Alpha throne of the Nightfrost wolf pack, hereby swear before you, the great white wolf, that I did not take the life of my previous mate, Elva, or cause her to take her own life. If my words are false, may I lose my own life right here before you…”Sigh.“C’mon, Jack, this is the fourth we’ve been now still swearing. I didn’t kill Elva. I love her with my life and you all know that. Why would I kill her?”“Wait till we get home,” he said. His voice, though quiet, had an ominous quality. My heart exploded when I got home only to sleep and wake up to hear that Jack had been going around and throwing shades on my name. I had to confront him immediately when the news got to my ears.“Enough of this rubbish, Jack. How dare you?” I barged into his house and walked up to him just untying the lace of his shoes. It seemed he had just returned from somewhere. Probably somewhere he had gone to speak ill of me.“So much boldness for a murderer,” he rema
ELVA'S POVI was feeling very weak but surprised that the wolfsbane didn't affect me much. Almost as if I was going to die, I longed for Darian to come save me. I couldn't believe that I had been such a big fool who believed Nolan. I let him take such a big advantage on me.I heard noises like someone was fighting outside. I couldn't move, just sat there completely glued to the chair. My heart was pounding in my chest right now.The door suddenly burst open revealing Nolan. " You? What do you want?" I yelled at him.He didn't answer my question but just ran over to my side and untied me. " Let go of me, let go!"He gripped my hand tight. " We don't have much time and your stupid lover boy isn't here yet so I had to hurry back to get my men and save you," he explained.I didn't even have much strength. "Why isn't the wolfsbane affecting you?" He inquired." Because I'm a silver wolf," I answered him." Ohh," he trailed, nodding his head. " We better get going, I heard Haelstrom is unde
DARIAN'S POVElva hasn't come down and it's been quite some time now but yet I haven't even seen a glimpse of her. It was driving me insane because the palace was getting all filled up with Elva nowhere to be seen.I couldn't take it anymore and ran up to her room hoping that she would be there. I arrived and didn't even see Elva there. Her dress was still on top of the bed so that means she didn't go far.I checked the bathroom and closet but she was nowhere to be seen. My heart was pounding wondering where the hell she could have gone. I knew that she was so nervous but I never expected her to run away just like that.I should have tried harder. I didn't comfort her well and now she's gone, it's entirely my fault that she's gone. It's all my fault.I tried not to jump to any conclusions thinking that she probably wouldn't have gone far. I wanted to tell my beta but decided to just make sure that I could find her before jumping to conclusions.I called her phone multiple times but sh
ELVA's POVToday was D-day. I didn't feel any different rather I felt like nothing. I looked at my dress with different thoughts running through my mind, I didn't even know what to do or if I would ever be able to be a good Luna.I was sure that Darian didn't worry whether or not I was still with but it still troubled me daily and it's been very hard not to think about it. My body was somehow trying to correspond with my current situation. My face was filled with lots of unwritten expressions. I should have gotten ready but I couldn't bring myself to. I tried so hard not to give in to my thoughts but rather it was more disturbing to my mind, making my headache.I heard a knock on my door. I turned to go answer it. I opened it and saw Darian standing there looking charming as ever with such a handsome look. He was dressed in a normal black tuxedo and his head tied perfectly." You look charming," I complimented. He chuckled a bit and made a move to enter but I just blocked him. " This
NOLAN'S POVThe thought of having to lose my position weakened me. I couldn't visualize myself not being the alpha, I had to find a way to get Elva back at least to trick the people even if it's just for a little while.I thought that maybe I could try to get to them by using the nice guy stuff on them. I even tried making a great deal with Darian but that annoying asshole didn't even give a shit or cared about it.I thought that he would succumb to it once I promised to break the bond but it didn't help one bit. Instead, it made him more adamant and brutal and bluntly refused right to my face.I had to think of something and I had to get on with a plan fast otherwise all this would be gone. I noticed someone present in the room, I looked up at him only to find out that it was just a guard. The last thing I needed right now was bad news." What do you want?"" Good afternoon alpha," he greeted. " You have a guest," he told me.I raised my head, wondering who the guest could be. I knew
DARIAN'S POVI knew that the guy could never be nice. I knew that he was up to something which was definitely for his benefit. It was easy to grasp that this was just all of his plan and a way to make him let go of Elva so he could finally get what he's been longing for.I didn't know whether or not to tell Elva about it trying not to get her stressed out. We've only been back at his pack for a week now but a lot had been going on, I didn't want to stress her much, especially with the fact that her coronation was coming up.I shrugged off the thought and decided to go for a swim. I changed into just my boxers and jumped into the pool at once. It was just some kind of way for me to relax my body and let out all of my inner stress.Nolan could come ahead and fool anyone but he's most definitely not going to fool me because I could easily see right through his plan. It was more than clear that this was all of his motive and plan.I decided in my mind that I would try my best to make sure
DARIAN'S POVThe dead weight of what I had gotten myself into was mortifying. I didn't mean to lash out at Fabian just like that in front of everyone but I had just had more than enough from him and wanted nothing more but to just put him back in his place.I heard a knock on my door. I immediately composed myself and had to clear my throat before attending to the person at the door."It's me, Logan," I heard him say.I heaved a big sigh and drastically opened the door with different emotions popping up in me. " What do you want?" I asked, not really in the mood to see him" I came here to see you," he replied.I further opened the door, giving him more access to my room. He entered my room. " Sit," I offered him a chair not far from the couch. He sat down on the chair looming around the room. I could easily tell that he was hesitant to talk probably because of how intimidating I was sometimes and now he's debating in his mind." Are you going to speak or should I chase you out?" I thr
DARIAN'S POV" Are you kidding me? So you're telling me that he wants the throne instead?" Elva asked after I narrated the entire incident to her.I nodded in response and my eyes widened with shock. She tried eating something but right at the same time, no words came out of her mouth. She just kept quiet for a minute." So, what are your plans now?" She finally spoke up.I didn't even know whether or not I had a plan but something was for sure and it was making things more and more intense for me. My head was stuck with lots of mess." He just thinks that I'm not capable enough but I'll make sure to prove to him that it's beyond what he thinks," I said. She looked at me with a warm smile on her face as my beta came in with some sort of worried look on his face. I prayed and hoped that it wasn't any sort of trouble because I had to deal with more than enough." Good evening alpha Darian," he greeted, with a slight bow.I immediately ushered him back up, trying not to stress him much s
ELVA'S POV I seldom sat at the window side, counting all the days it's been without Ruya. He was finally gone and that empty feeling was back there in me once again, it was a feeling of pain and pure relief. My new wolf — Stephano wasn't a pain in the ass like Ruya and that was exactly what I liked about her. She may seem rude but rather she was lively and we got along well in such a way that even I couldn't describe it.I got off my feet and left the room deciding to go for a walk round the garden. I've been indoors for quite some time now and now I've subdued the fact that all I needed was just a little outing to get me going.I decided to let off the guards but they weren't too far off from me either. I just had to have them with me in case of anything and speaking of trouble, that was when I noticed Nolan not too far away.I made sure to stay at a safe distance where it would be easy to alarm the guards in case anything happened. I thought of walking over to him to try to get to
FABIAN’S POV"What do you mean she's a silver wolf?" I yelled out loud.I couldn't have been more furious with this discovery that had just been made. I can't believe that the more I thought that I was closer to achieving my goal, the more it was becoming useless for me.The girl whose name was Celia shrieked as I thundered loudly at her. My heart was totally pierced right now with this new maud discovery wishing I had known earlier which was why I made her go as a spy to the palace. She told me that some maids got a clue of what she was doing and just what she was up to. I couldn't let anyone discover what we've been up to so I made sure that she found a way to get rid of them.I had always kept a good reputation and couldn't risk having Darian suspecting me otherwise that would just ruin my entire plan and she would be the cause of it. I couldn't go back now so if she was planning anything she had better back down otherwise I would kill her with my own bare hands. She didn't even re
