Return Of The Luna: To Live Again

DIANE'S POV

I was sweating profusely as Melody, my younger sister and I were cleaning the large hallway in Alpha Denzel's mansion. We were both wearing blue uniforms worn by all the alpha's maids. 

Although we were seven maids in the house, Alpha Denzel, the leader of Starry Night Park assigned the cleaning of the hallway, his room and the Luna's room to only Melody and me.   

After some minutes, I stopped mopping the floor and turned to look at Melody who was on her knees and scrubbing the floor. She was also sweating profusely.

For some seconds, I stood watching her, and she was oblivious that I was watching her because her head was bowed and facing the floor as she scrubbed it vigorously.

Within a split second, tears welled up in my eyes cos I hated seeing my sister working so hard. She was 14 years old and I felt that a young girl her age shouldn't be doing such strenuous work.

Melody and I were orphans and we had no other siblings. It was just the two of us and we love and care for each other dearly. Since Alpha Denzel brought us to this house to live with him after the death of our parents, we have endeavoured to do all we can to keep each other happy and we were inseparable.

I felt so sorry for Melody seeing her working so hard at her age and on impulse, I dropped the mop I was holding on the floor beside a bucket of water and started walking toward her.

As I got closer to her, she raised her head and looked at me and we made eye contact.

My eyes swept over her.

Melody's long black hair which was just like mine cascaded over her shoulders. Her lovely pretty round face with shining grey eyes like mine looked angelic as always. 

She was a little bit skinny despite she eats a lot unlike me who has a voluptuous body and doesn't eat much.

"Melody, you look tired," I said as she rose to her feet and used the back of her hand to wipe sweat from her brow.

"Yes, I am but I have no choice but to finish my work," she said with a smile.

"Why would you say you have no choice? You have a choice because I am here. If you want to call it a day just tell me and I will do the rest of the work," I said.

"No, Diane, I want to finish my work. You work so hard every day. It will not be fair for me to leave you to do all the work alone," she said.

"Hmmm...the last time I checked, I didn't complain to you that the work is too much for me," I said with a giggle.

"I know you have never complained to me but I know that the work is too much for you and that was one of the reasons I decided to work so that I can reduce your workload aside from the salary I'm earning from it," she said.

"It's okay. After we finish working, I want you to take a shower, have your breakfast, and take a nap. Later in the afternoon, I will take you out to get ice cream," I said smiling.

"Wow...I am so happy to hear that! I have been craving ice cream for a couple of days. I can't wait to have the ice cream!" she said with excitement.

"Are you serious that you have been ice cream for a couple of days?" I asked.

"Yes."

"Melody, I always tell you to open up to me about anything you need. You should have told me that you want ice cream and I would have gotten it for you," I said with slight anger.

"I'm sorry, Diane. I didn't tell you because I didn't want to bother you," she said with a pleading tone.

"Oh, come off it! You should know that I will gladly do anything you want as long as it's within my power. My priority is to make sure you are happy. I want to see you grow up to be a fulfilled and successful woman," I said.

Melody's eyes were filled with tears as she gazed at me. After some seconds, she wrapped her arms around me and hugged me warmly.

"Diane, you have brought so much joy to my life. I can't imagine living without you. You are such an amazing big sister and I want to say I love you so much," she said as she broke into tears and quivered with emotions.

I wrapped my arms around her as I felt her quivering body against mine.

"Melody, it's alright. I love you too. Please, stop crying," I said as my eyes filled with tears.

For a moment, we were wrapped in each other's arms as tears streamed down our faces.

Suddenly, we heard a slight squeak of a door and I turned around to look at which door as my heart started racing.

I prayed in my heart that the person opening the door should be Alpha Denzel and not Luna Morgana, the wicked mate of Alpha Denzel who hates my sister and me with a passion.

Fear gripped my heart as Luna Morgana's door swung open and she stepped into the hallway. Melody and I were still wrapped in each other's arms as Luna Morgana glared at me with her hazel eyes.

"Luna Mor...gana, good mor...ning," I stuttered as my eyes swept over her.

Her long glossy ginger hair cascaded over her shoulders and her oblong pretty face was devoid of makeup. She was wearing a lovely satin pink nightgown.

"Good morning, Luna Morgana," Melody greeted her.

She didn't respond to any of us as she glared at us.

Seeing the anger in her eyes, I didn't need a soothsayer to tell me that there was about to be trouble.

"What is good about the morning, you two little bitches? Diane, why are you and your sister wrapped in each other's arms when you are supposed to be working?" she asked as her eyes blazed with anger.

"We have been working for over an hour. You can see that the hallway is clean. It was because I saw that my sister was looking tired that was why I took a break from work and was talking to her," I replied.

"Shut your filthy mouth, you stupid bitch! You are supposed to be working not talking to your stupid sister," she said with anger.

Instantly, I was filled with anger.

It is noteworthy to mention that I could take any kind of insults from Luna Morgana as well as any other person, however, I can't tolerate anyone insulting or abusing my sister in any way.

"Luna Morgana, with all due respect, please, don't insult Melody. You can insult me as much as you want but I will not condone you insulting my sister!" I yelled.

Luna Morgana's eyes widened with shock as she gazed at me with disbelief.
