Chapter 1

I squeezed my eyes shut, and tears ran down my cheeks freely. The pain was excruciating; I wanted to shout, but I didn't want to make a scene. Sniffing into my hanky, I opened my eyes as I heard one of my colleagues, Marissa, whisper behind me. "Can't she stop acting like she's part of the Agrezor's family?" I wanted to turn myself to face her, but I stopped myself. Most of the employees of Hasse, parents, teachers, and students were present at the burial ceremony of the school's president, and putting myself in another scandal was like committing suicide. The staff of the memorial park opened the casket for the final public viewing. His family came near and cried in silence. I took my steps to see him for the last time, making the crowd start to murmur. "Daddy," I mumbled. "Don't worry. I won't leave my job whatever happens." I wiped my tears off my cheeks while looking at his lifeless body."You slept with my husband, yet you call him daddy? Don't you have any shame?" Mrs. Agrez

Chapter 2

The decoration of the campus gymnasium was extravagant, exuding an air of wealth and power. People could not help but stop in their tracks at the sight of the event venue. Hugging the laptop to my chest, I smiled, masking the sadness that coiled around my heart."Want some hot chocolate?"I recognized the voice, and my eyes automatically searched for her. Faerie was behind me, staring apologetically at me. Giving her a thin smile, I clung to her arm. "Your treat?""Yeah."She dragged me to the cafeteria, and we sat at an empty table. She rested her chin on her hand, and her eyes questioned me with brows furrowed in silence."What?" I asked. "Swollen eyes again," she pointed out.I shifted my eyes to a group of girls searching for a table. "I can't get him off of my mind," I said, smiling weakly at the thought of him. When he was still alive, he would always call me to have breakfast together in his office. "Why does everyone important in my life leave me?"And now, Faerie was all

Chapter 3

“Don’t you know how to knock before entering a room?” Glancing at the door, he furrowed his brows.“I’m sorry,” I said in almost a whisper. I turned my back to leave, but he clutched my arm, looking straight into my eyes.I quickly pulled my hand away as I felt a tremor of jitters run through my veins. His hand was warm on my skin, but his eyes were cold as ice.“Turning your back when someone is talking to you is plain rude.” He took a step back, giving me enough space. Was he aware of my agitation? “Your name?”I composed myself and gripped my skirt, trying not to run to the door.“I’m…” I trailed off and glanced at the folders on the floor before looking at him again. “Amity Escobar.”He turned his eyes to his desk before spinning himself around to face the floor-to-ceiling window.“The famous teacher,” he stated. “I was thinking of you, Ms. Escobar.”My hands started to get sweaty.“What you look like…and how beautiful you are to be the talk of the town,” he continued.Shifting my

It was half past five in the morning, but I still could not sleep. Dealing with a headache, I just stared at the ceiling the whole time before I got off the bed, annoyed.I did not have any more time to sleep, so I went to the bathroom and took a warm shower. While having breakfast, I heard my phone alarm. I hastily put the dishes in the sink, looked at myself in my hand mirror, and went out of the house. Almost 20 minutes had passed, but still no jeepneys on the road. So I called Faerie, and she immediately answered the phone. "Good morning—""I'm already half an hour late!" I said, cutting her off. "Is there a transport trike?" "Yes, it was in the news last night." I cursed under my breath. "Where are you? I'll pick you up." "Finally!" I saw a jeepney coming. Signaling to stop, it did near me. "No need, love. See you later!" Arriving at school, I saw no students around, manifestly because classes had started already. Walking briskly into the faculty room, I felt my co-teacher

Chapter 5

“She’s here!” Luis gushed as I entered the classroom. After putting my laptop on the table, my eyes roved around to check if someone was absent. Their bright smiles warmed my heart like the feeling of the morning sun touching my soul. The sound of the door opening made their eyes turn to it. They showed different reactions to seeing the man who had set foot in their classroom. “He’s very handsome. Who is he?” Carla fixed her eyes on him, smiling as if she saw an angel. “Is he your boyfriend, ma’am?”I anticipated this to happen; some students would not recognize him. The new president was very private that there was no single picture of him on the Internet.“He’s not—““Good morning, seniors!” he greeted them in his normal yet appealing voice.“Good morning, sir!” they greeted back. I pursed my lips as his face remained impassive. “Oh, God! He’s hot!” I heard someone whisper from the first row on the right side.Silently praying that he did not hear her, I cleared my throat to di

Chapter 6

Upon exiting the health and beauty store after buying some stuff, Faerie put her arm around my shoulder. Before shopping in the store, she bought me varieties of chocolates, and we even ate at my favorite Chinese restaurant."Feeling better now?" she asked, giving me a serene smile. I nodded. "Thanks!" Checking the bags full of our purchases, I could not help but shake my head in amazement. "Are you going to spend the weekend cooking and baking?" "Yup! I'll cook you your favorite food," she said and winked at me. My smile widened. "You're the sweetest!"Using her free hand while driving, she pulled out something from her bag and handed me the pink cat squeeze ball. I stared at it first before taking it from her. I giggled like a child playing with the cute squishy toy in my right hand. "Where did you buy this?" "Online. It reminds me of you, so I bought it right away." I closed my eyes but still could not stop giggling. "Does it look like me?" "Yeah. Look at her eyes. Aren't
