It was getting old. It was like Reece could not catch a breather even if he tried. He was beginning to understand why his father had aged so quickly. He woke up in the wee hours of the morning to an emergency.

Reece got up quietly so as not to wake Breeana up. She needed as much sleep as she could get with her burning the candle on both ends. She was training as if her life depended on it and at the same time finally immersing herself in the pack's social life with help from her sister.

It was wild. Reece could almost not believe that Ariana had forgiven Breeana so easily while she still gave him the cold shoulder. It was like the life-and-death experience had bonded the sisters in a way he failed to comprehend. Not that it mattered, it wasn't like he needed her friendship anyway.

Breeana's parents were still distant but less distant than they had been before the sisters had made up. But that wasn't the problem now. The problem now was the wolves at their border. Reece shifted and ran

Breeana watched in shock as her brother found his mate. They gazed at each other as though the world had stopped just for them.Breeana stole a glance at Reece wondering if that was how they had been entranced with each other at that very moment of discovery before they had realized who they were to each other. The cheers from the Primo pack members cut into this deep reverie. They whooped and cheered so much that Alex and his mate looked away from each other abashed."Zinora has been given an able-bodied mate." Adelaide nodded. "He will do."Breeana wanted to congratulate her brother but felt that he would want to know his mate a little bit better before he would talk to her about it. She couldn't wait to tell her parents and Ari about this. She wanted to just mind link them about it but it seemed like a piece of news to share in person. She gestured for Allen. "Tell Ari to come to the pack house once she's done at the clinic. Don't tell her about Alex. I want to do it myself."Allen

"The Primo pack cannot stay here." Elder Elvis announced and the others concurred. Reece was more frustrated than usual. That might have had something to do with the fact that he had been cockblocked by his sister-in-law who was also his ex, or the tense conversation with his father-in-law the day before. It might also have been because he had been up since the crack of dawn explaining to the elders who were way older than him that the ancient laws of seeking refuge could not be revoked."I don't think I have to explain to you the relevance of the ancient laws. You of all people should stand for the upholding of this law.""Alpha," Elder Asher said, the voice of moderation and Elder Elvis's counterweight. "You must understand the reason the law is almost obsolete. It is because two Alphas cannot dwell in the same territory. One must give way to the other. As much as we care for our displaced brethren, we cannot destabilize the structure of our pack for them."Reece contemplated it. He

"We will divide our wolves into three. The attack group, the reserve group and the ambush group."The plans for the attack were underway.Reece unrolled the map of the Primo pack territory drawn up courtesy of Adelaide and the other scouts that had been checking out the lands for the past couple of days to bring intel about the rogues that had settled there. He glanced at Breeana as he laid out the plans for the strike tomorrow. She seemed more composed now. No one would suspect that she was even more nervous than he was about the entire strike thing. After Breeana's shocking declaration over a day ago about being ready to consummate their bond, they hadn't spoken much about it. Mostly because Reece was doing his best to fix the Primo pack problem so that they could face their normal lives again. The Connor family had finally resolved their issues and Reece felt that might have inspired Breeana's change of heart. In fact, Alex had spoken to him like a human being when he had come to i

The day a person's life changes doesn't often start dramatically. As Reece walked up to his room, every joint of his body whispering in pain, he thought only of a hot bath and Breeana. He had no idea that his life was about to be upended. He pushed open the door and his life changed again. Breeana was on their bed asleep and naked. Wrapped around her was a male wolf from Adelaide's pack. His erection pushed up against her back as they slept oblivious to his arrival.Reece died a thousand deaths at that moment. Breeana made a sound in her sleep and the wolf's arms tightened around her as though to comfort her even while they slept. When he'd caught Ariana with that wolf he thought he had felt the most betrayed he could feel in his life. It had nothing, absolutely nothing on this.Reece growled, rage electrifying his veins. They woke up but he paid no attention to Breeana's shocked gasp. Instead, he dragged the sleepy-eyed wolf out of his bed and out to the hallway."Hey let me go. Bree

"Ariana." Breeana said.Ari stopped in the middle of her work. She was helping their mother dice up some veggies. She looked up at Breeana, a sweet smile on her face. "Bree!" She hugged her sister."It's wonderful to see you. Do you want any snacks, food, …" Ariana gestured at the spread she was making.Breeana gave a smile that didn't reach her heart. She was way too keyed up to smile."I would like to discuss something with you in private."Ariana looked up at her with what looked like mild surprise. "Sure."They took a brief detour from the house into the woods. The silence between them felt uneasy and charged or maybe that was just the way it felt to Breeana since she was about to call her sister's character to question…."What is so urgent that you wanted to talk to me about so soon?" Ari asked congenially as they moved through the forest."What drug did you give me?” Best to rip it off like a bandaid."Pardon?" Ari said with a confused look on her face."When you stayed with me

"Strip Luna Breeana of her rank.""We reject her as our Luna.""The Mountain Coast pack refuses to take orders from a treacherous Luna."Reece didn't have high hopes for that day. He had woken up with a hangover to end all hangovers. He vaguely remembered kissing Breeana and her pushing him away. He wasn't quite sure if it was a dream or reality. The connecting door was firmly shut and he didn't see Breeana till he left the room.He had gone to his office as he did every day. They had postponed the family dinner because Zinora had gone to Shawn's funeral while Alex was still angry at him as though he had personally sent his mate away.Word had leaked that Reece had killed the wolf but Adelaide had sworn her people into secrecy so no one knew the main reason why he had done so. Just that he had hence Alex foul mood. But that fateful morning as his head throbbed so bad that he could barely read what Alex put in front of him, Allen raced in as though the host of hell was pursuing him."W

Ariana's hands shook. She wasn't scared. Not really but she was bothered. Breeana wasn't supposed to have suspected her so quickly.Rather Sarah had taken too long to deliver on her part of the deal. So Breeana had found out the truth before the protest masterminded by Sarah who had planted reports of what Breeana had done all over the pack at strategic locations so as to cause unrest in the pack.Every household in the pack had been summoned to bear witness to Breeana's trial. Their parents had been bothered and asked her if she knew anything about it. She had denied it of course. She wasn't stupid. But once they located Breeana and put her on that podium, she would open her mouth and accuse Ariana. What would she do then? She had wanted to go over to Sarah's house this morning to go over the plan but the protests had begun early and as the sister of the treacherous Luna she dared not step foot outside before she got lynched. So here Ariana stood in the crowd beside her parents, her

I did it because I can't bear the thought of losing you."I did it for the pack."Breeana's cheeks were on fire and she only hoped that Reece didn't notice."The pack?" He intoned."Yes, the pack," Breeana said now confident. "They have already lost one Alpha. They can't afford to lose another so soon. It's not as though you have an heir to survive you."Reece looked at Breeana but she averted her gaze."Breeana," He began, his tone thoughtful. "You aren't keeping anything from me, are you?"Breeana fought to keep the shock off her face. How did he know that she was keeping something from him? Had it been so obvious from her expression or was he really that good at reading her?"I don't know what you are talking about, Reece." Breeana said avoiding his gaze as she shifted in bed, ignoring the pain as she shifted pulling the covers. "I feel weak and I need to rest. Please excuse me."She felt Reece hesitate behind her. She counted her breaths till he finally left. There is only one thi

Six Years Later"Can I take you to lunch?"Sarah threw a mean left hook that had Jared struggling to keep his balance. He always favoured his right a little bit too much."No.""Sarah…"She didn't let him continue before releasing a barrage of blows that got his head back into the fight and away from emotional talks. An hour later, she was walking out of the training centre with a bag slung over her shoulder after her shower."Sarah, please wait up."She didn't. She kept walking because she really didn't want to have this conversation. He easily caught up to her though with his long legs."So off to pick up Cole?"Sarah stopped walking."What do you want? Please speak directly."Jared looked at her with hurt brown eyes that eerily reminded her of Allen."I'm trying to have a conversation with you, Sarah.""And I'm trying not to. We train together. Breeana opened her eyes and nearly screamed.Reece. She had to get to Reece. But what could she do on her own?No, if there was one thing that Anya had thought of her it was that she needed backup. She knew that Reece and the others had a contingency plan where their forces could charge in and rescue them but that plan had relied on the use of their pack links. She didn't even know where the forces were situated. Reece hadn't told her and she hadn't thought to ask."What do I do? What should I do?"She paced the length of her room and then inspiration struck. Of course. How could she have forgotten?Sarah. She would know.*****"We need to get to them now."Sarah had known. She had known that something like this would happen. She had suspected it and now Allen was trapped in a room with Damien she would have felt fear if there was time.Every minute she dawdled was time that Allen couldn't afford especially with the vendetta that Damien had against him."I know where they are camped a

Breeana puked again and her belly contracted in response. She was in the bathroom for another hour or so before she felt strong enough to make her way out.She had woken up with morning sickness and by God, it wasn't what it was hyped up to be.She hadn't even been able to wish Reece goodbye properly and she knew that if the coronation hadn't been that day he would have stayed with her until she felt better. She was barely seated on her bed before she felt a tug on the bond. It wasn't unusual these days for her to feel that way but what made her pause was the fact that Reece was in a closed-door meeting with a cold-blooded murderer. Relaxing herself, she let herself drift until she connected with him and then she was…******"Today we are here for something momentous. Because for the first one in centuries, we will be welcoming in a monarch. Someone who will lead us through these dark abysmal times."Reece sat in his seat exchanging side glances with some of his allies. Adelaide looke

"You are asking me to stay behind?" Breeana glared at Reece, she couldn't believe that mere days ago she had cried and wished desperately that he would wake up.Now she felt the almost stifling urge to suffocate him. Ugh. He was so annoying and so obstinate that it was a marvel that they were still together.Truly."I just want you to stay safe while all this is going on." He leaned in and dropped a kiss on her forehead before touching her belly. "You and our child."Breeans pulled away before she would melt against his concern and sweet words the way she had been melting for the past few days since he woke up.Suffice to say that their fight had been long forgotten almost immediately after he woke up and she kissed him like the weirdo she was.No, Breeana do not think of kisses. She chided herself. Or of all the other things he had done to her and she had done to him."So I'm supposed to just sit in my hands while all the men I care about go off to fight a maniac? Come on, Reece. I'

"You shacked up with a council member?"Breeana looked at Sarah shocked beyond belief.Sarah blushed. "I didn't know that at first."Breeana kept staring at her."And he's Cole's dad?""Yes."When Breeana had come to threaten Sarah to talk to her the last thing she had thought of was this.Sarah had taken one look at her thunderous expression and scented the blood on her before letting her in and telling her what had to be the surprising thing that Breeana had heard since the beginning of this fiasco."Bloody hell, does Allen know about this?" Was she the only one to be blindsided by all this?"I… I haven't gotten around to telling him I guess I just wanted it to go away." Sarah brushed her hair out of her face. "He's the only father that Cole will ever have. The only father I want my child to have. I thought if I ignored it, it would stay that way."Breeana looked at her like she had hit her head on the wall one too many times. Wanted what to go away? For all they knew this was proba

The ambush was quiet, this was their land after all. They knew every nook and cranny of it and more than that they were preternaturally quick and quiet. The hunters on the other hand were loud and clumsy in comparison. They must have thought they would take their pack the way they had taken the others. They were wrong. As the hunters sat around their campfire, discussing their strategy for the upcoming attack, they surrounded them."We enter from the north and–"Allen gave the signal and they attacked. The hunters quickly reached for their weapons, but they were too slow and the werewolves were too fast. They pounced on the hunters, their razor-sharp claws tearing through flesh and bone. The hunters fought back with guns and knives, but they were no match for the werewolves' supernatural strength and agility. The air was filled with the sound of snarling and screaming as the werewolves tore apart their prey. The hunters tried to retreat, but the werewolves were relentless, chasing the

Poison. The word resounded over and over in her head long after Reece had been wheeled into the ER.Someone had poisoned him.She felt a touch on her shoulder. It was Sarah."It's going to be fine, Bree." She comforted her, her voice low and compassionate.Only that was a farce, wasn't it?A terrible suspicion bloomed in her mind as she turned on Sarah. She had been there last night and suddenly Reece got poisoned. She didn't think it was a coincidence.Breeana gripped her by her throat watching her choke."It was you wasn't it?" Breeana squeezed harder, her vision going red. They had granted her mercy and she had gone and done this.Reece was… her mate was…. Just when she had wanted to give their relationship another shot. It was almost too cruel."I swear…" Sarah coughed trying to breathe through the strangling sensation around her throat where Breeana held her immobile."Don't fucking lie to me. "We should just execute her and be done with it." Breeana said offhandedly and Reece stifled a laugh."Sure. Any more unreasonable requests you would like to add?"Breeana mock glared at him but a smile peeked through. She was surprised that they could even joke about this. The moment she had seen Ivy she had frozen thinking about the last time they had seen each other.Ivy didn't try to attack them or even struggle. She just turned herself in and allowed herself to be detained. Breeana and Reece had been shocked to hear that she had lost her pregnancy and that she was willing to sell her father and his moles in their pack out in exchange for her freedom."Why did you even bother coming back? You could have just stayed in Europe. There is no way we would have tracked you down." Breeana asked her still suspicious about her return and willingness.Ivy locked gazes with her.
