Ivy's POV

As I leave the training grounds with Gamma Everly and Sylvia, I can feel the weight of everything I’ve been through finally seeping away from me.

“Congratulations on your big win, Ivy!” Sylvia says excitedly, grabbing my hand and tugging me along.

“Your progress has been exceptionally impressive,” Gamma Everly adds. She smiles at me proudly and nods her head in respect. “I’ve never had a pupil so devoted to their training.”

I blush at their kind words, averting my gaze as we all walk back to the palace. “Thanks, guys,” I mumble abashedly. “I couldn’t have done any of it without you.”

I can already feel the bruises and cuts spreading along my body, and my injured leg has started to ache again. I suppose the rush of pain-free adrenaline I felt under Venetia’s influence was only a temporary solution. No doubt I’ll be incredibly sore tomorrow, and I’m probably in desperate need of medical attention.

But I won.

And I have my wolf back.

As if reading my thoughts, Sylvia sudde

Ivy's POVOnce I return to my room, I take some time washing away all the stress and strain of the duel. I draw myself a soothing bath, adding rose oils and flower petals. As I shed my sweaty exercise clothes and relax into the warm water, I watch the layers of grime detach from my skin and float to the surface. I scrub the filth from my skin until it’s pink and raw. I won’t feel clean until every trace of it is gone. There are open cuts and wounds lancing across my skin–what Warrior Garett’s claws did to me. I’m sure he’ll leave a couple scars, but I’m sure I’ve given him quite a few, too. Besides, I have so many scars already that whatever marks he’s left on me will fade soon enough. The hot water feels holy against my skin as I let myself recover from the stress of not just the duel, but all the anxiety leading up to it. Tense knots in my shoulders untangle themselves, and the calluses on my skin start to break down. I can fight, but I don’t think I’m meant to be a full-time f

Spencer's POVAs I return to the palace, I can’t stop replaying Ivy’s duel with Warrior Garett in my mind. I hadn’t expected her fighting skills to be so strong, even before she got her wolf back. I suppose she was training hard with Gamma Everly. I must admit–I’m impressed. No one will ever be able to call her weak again. And I can’t stop thinking about the new possibilities that may bring. I rush to my room, thoughts racing. My parent’s main issues with Ivy are that she’s weak, she’s wolfless, and she lacks status. But after today's duel, no one could claim that she’s weak. And not only does Ivy have a wolf, but she has a white wolf–one of the most regal and prestigious kinds of wolves there are. Plus, as soon as this entire mess with the rogue factions has been dealt with and the Lycan Royal Family is back in the werewolves’ good graces, it shouldn’t be any trouble at all to restore the standing of Ivy’s pack. And then no one–including my family–will be able to say a bad word a

Spencer's POVThe moment Alpha Quentin enters the dining hall, I find myself scrutinizing him closely. I’ve heard of the Mountaincrest pack before–while a smaller pack, they’re formidable for their strength, seeing as they live at higher altitudes in the freezing cold. I can see the evidence of this harsher lifestyle upon examining Alpha Quentin–his body is large and well-muscled, and his keen brown eyes are alert as they look around the room. Yes, it seems that Alpha Quentin would be a beneficial match for the Lycan Royal Family. A lot less complicated than Sylvia and Beta Wilson, too. He’s handsome, too, with curly black hair and chiseled features that soften into a warm smile as his gaze lands upon Sylvia. Alpha Quentin approaches the table and stands next to Sylvia, where his seat awaits him. “My fair Princess Sylvia,” he says, powerful, rumbling voice heavy with respect. As he sweeps into a low bow, he takes her hand in his and plants a kiss in the air above her knuckles. “I

Spencer's POVBy the time the dinner finally ends, I’ve more than had enough. Sylvia and Alpha Quentin are talking rapturously, clearly taken with one another, while my mother watches the two of them intently. Beta Wilson is also watching, but with a scrutinizing, reluctant eye. I know him–I’m certain he’s already coming up with reasons as to why Sylvia and Alpha Quentin wouldn’t work, trying to undermine the situation rather than actually talk to Sylvia. My father seems more than ready to leave the dinner, as does Delilah. And Colin has been watching me the entire evening, though he hasn’t spoken a word. Lovely. As soon as my father sets down his fork, announcing the official end of dinner, I’m out of my seat and walking swiftly towards the exit. “And just where do you think you’re going?” My mother scolds. “Please forgive my haste,” I reply, trying to figure out the sarcasm. “I have important military matters to attend to.” Delilah stands up and quickly follows behind me. Ivy's POVIt’s been a few days since I saw Spencer with Delilah, and since then, time has felt like it’s passing me by in a blur. I’m still training with Gamma Everly, and sometimes taking Jason out for a couple training sessions of our own. But without the stress of the duel looming over me, fighting feels dull and uninspired. Sometimes, across the training grounds, I catch a glimpse of a woman starting to hone her combat skills for the first time. It makes me feel joyous–like I did something meaningful, for once. But these days, it’s a fleeting pleasure. And without Spencer to spend the time with, I’m acutely aware of my own loneliness. I’m sitting in my room and nibbling idly at a platter of sandwiches when I hear a knock on my door. My heart starts to thud in my chest as I stand up and walk towards the door. Is it Spencer? What does he want? Do I even want to see him right now? No, I don’t want to see him, the bastard, but I want him back more than anything and I–“Sylvia!” I

Ivy's POVAs soon as the words pass my lips, I find myself bursting into tears. “Oh!” Sylvia exclaims suddenly as I bury my face in my hands, the hot tears running down my face. “Oh, I’m so sorry, I–I didn’t mean to make you cry…” Sylvia wraps her arms around me and pulls me close to her chest, stroking my hair soothingly as she does her best to calm me down. I don’t know why the full force of my loss and heartbreak has chosen this moment to manifest itself into a wave of desolation that makes me want to do nothing but cry, but I feel unspeakably awful right now. My cheeks burn with embarrassment at crying, but as my cries morph into twisting, heavy sobs, I realize this is the first time I’ve actually just let myself cry over this entire situation–a real, proper cry, not just a few shed tears that I’ve quickly swiped away. The sort of cry that’s cathartic, after all the misery. “It–it’s not your fault,” I sniffle, trying to reign in the overwhelming surge of hopelessness that’s cr

Ivy's POVJust as it seems like Beta Wilson and Alpha Quentin are about to start fighting, the Lycan King and Queen suddenly sweep into the foyer. All at once, the crowd falls silent. The Lycan King’s stern gaze fixes on Beta Wilson, his brow furrowed in distaste. “You can imagine my immense displeasure to hear that my Beta is picking fights with our most cherished guest at the palace,” the king says, voice rumbling with thinly veiled anger. “What is the meaning of all this, Wilson?” Red in the face, Beta Wilson points a tremulous finger towards Alpha Quentin and narrows his eyes. “I caught Alpha Quentin kissing one of the maids!” Beta Wilson says in accusation, glaring at Alpha Quentin with an unmistakable fury. “That’s not true,” Alpha Quentin says immediately, voice smooth and unfazed. But I can see his gaze shifting to a small, strikingly beautiful maid lurking near the edge of the crowd. Her thick brown hair is all mussed up, and her uniform looks rather disheveled. She’s d

Ivy's POV“Sylvia?” Both Beta Wilson and Alpha Quentin say her name in unison. Sylvia breathes out an exasperated sigh, marching towards Beta Wilson. She jabs an accusatory finger into his chest, eyes blazing in anger. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Sylvia snaps at him angrily. “Sylvia, I can’t let you marry a man who’s–” “That’s Princess Sylvia to you,” Sylvia cuts in sharply. I suck in a breath. I don’t think she knows how to come back from this. Beta Wilson blinks, and for a moment, I can see the hurt etched into his features. But he refuses to back down, glowering at Sylvia. “I know what I saw!” “I can take care of myself, Wilson!” Sylvia snaps at him. “I don’t care what you saw–why would you be getting involved with royal matters to begin with? My marriage is none of your concern. Don’t you dare tell me what you can and can’t let me do.” Sylvia and Beta Wilson glare at each other, raw emotion crackling be

Spencer’s POV“Alpha Fierro, I need you to focus up.” The words are harsh as they leave my mouth, but I’m not trying to be malicious, although it’s true that things desperately need to get moving. The longer I spend in the Sunclash pack, the more on edge I feel. Every wall in sight feels like it’s closing in on me, and I can feel the sickness permeating the air. There’s a heaviness to this place now, an endless sense of dread. I have a feeling that this ground will carry the weight of all its deaths for a long, long time. “Scour the office for anything that seems out of place,” I say. “If your Beta was in charge of the pack in your absence, it’s likely that he was the one putting any preventative measures into place. He may have tried to find a cure–hopefully there are signs somewhere around here.” I look down at the man’s corpse, the papers clutched in his fist and the expression of profound horror on his face. “I read his reports. He seems to have been a confident, driven man. I’

Spencer’s POV‘I think a considerable number of people managed to leave, contaminated or not.’ The longer Beta Wilson’s words echo through my mind, the more I begin to realize the scale of the potential disaster we might have on our hands. Where would any contaminated werewolves go? To the surrounding packs, most likely, and from there, the plague could spread from pack to pack to pack endlessly, ultimately becoming a worldwide pandemic…I whirl around to look at Alpha Fierro. “What was your relationship with other packs like?” I ask him urgently. “If any of your pack members were to turn up there looking for help, would they receive it?” “Probably, yeah,” Alpha Fierro says. “We tended to keep things as peaceful as possible. Unless there was very clearly something wrong going on, no one would have any reason to turn any of our members away.” I curse silently under my breath. “Keep heading towards the pack house,” I tell Alpha Fierro, already starting to walk away from him and back

Spencer’s POVMost of my skin has already been covered by my day clothes, but in the few places I’m not, I can feel the hazmat suit’s crinkly plastic resting against me uncomfortably. I shudder as the plastic continues to shift. It clings uncomfortably to my skin and is far from stealthy, causing a loud rumpling sound to ring out with every step. I’d hoped that we could carry out this surveillance with at least the slightest bit of stealth and decorum, but as the entire haphazard team of us begins to make our way into the Sunclash pack, it becomes more and more evident that that’s just not going to happen. Through the suit’s bulbous plastic dome, I make eye contact with Doctor Danbury, clearly far from amused. She purses her lips, and I can see my own frustration mirrored on her face as we continue to lug equipment around. “I know,” she says, coming up to walk beside me. “Believe me, I hate the suits too. Easily one of my least favourite parts of this job. But whatever wiped this p

Spencer’s POVAs we all sit in the back of a sleek, high-speed limo, I can’t help but feel thick tendrils of dread curling throughout my stomach. Every second I spend away from Ivy feels like I could be missing her final moments, and the fear over what could happen to her is making me sick. “The hazmat suits will be uncomfortable,” Doctor Danbury warns, holding up a hideous yellow baggy bodysuit. The plastic crinkles under her touch. “And the tanks on the back are going to poke weirdly. It’s no fun to wear, I know. But we still don’t quite know the extent of the toxicity of the environment we’re about to enter, so right now, safety is of the utmost importance. It’s possible that we’ll be able to take the suits off once I’ve run a couple tests and deemed the area safe, but I have no idea yet.” “Whatever it is, it seems to be highly contagious,” Alpha Fierro says somberly. Doctor Danbury nods. “The last thing we want to do is bring an uncontained plague back to the Lycan Kingdom, so

  • Rescuing His Enslaved Luna Queen   Chapter 416: Preventative Measures

Spencer’s POVJust as Beta Wilson and Alpha Fierro make their way out of my office, I see Alpha Leo slip through the doorway. He looks much better than he did the last time I saw him–there are still the occasional cuts and bruises marring his skin, a couple ridged scars in the process of forming, but Alpha Leo seems to be walking without much pain. His posture is straight and his gaze is keen. He looks at me tentatively as he approaches my desk, and I can tell he’s just the slightest bit on edge. “Your Highness,” he says uncertainly. “Alpha Leo,” I reply. “Um, what can I do for you?” Alpha Leo asks nervously. I shuffle a stack of papers on the desk together. “As I’m sure you know, we’ve suffered considerable gaps in our staff,” I begin. “Specifically in our military and guard positions. One of the most notable absences is Captain McAndrews, as I’m sure you remember quite well.” Alpha Leo blanches. “Right,” he mutters. “The work you did during Elder Jet’s invasion was exceptiona

  • Rescuing His Enslaved Luna Queen   Chapter 415: To The Rescue

Spencer’s POV“The Lycan Kingdom will come to your aid at once.” Clearly, the ease with which I offer my support comes as something of a shock to Alpha Fierro. His eyes widen, and his face breaks into an expression of gratitude. His posture already seems straighter, like a great weight has been lifted from his shoulders. “Really?” Alpha Fierro breathes out. “Thank you, Your Majesty. Truly, I’d nearly given up hope on receiving any sort of aid at all–I’d almost started believing the rumours…” My eyes narrow. “The rumours?” I repeat coldly.” Alpha Fierro blanches. “Well, I–of course, I never really believed them. But I’m sure it hasn’t escaped your vast reach of influence that some werewolves have been saying things about the Lycan Royal Family that have been rather… out of line. Ever since Elder Jet and his rebellion, things have been different. But I–that’s not important! What I’m trying to say to you right now is thank you, Your Majesty. From the bottom of my heart.” I remain si

  • Rescuing His Enslaved Luna Queen   Chapter 414: Symptoms

Spencer’s POV“Tell me everything you know about this plague.” The command is sharp and electric, crackling with urgency. At Alpha Fierro’s mention of this strange plague taking lives–not to mention its unfortunate coinciding with the Blood Moon–I can’t help but feel nauseous thinking about what could happen to Ivy. There’s been no confirmation that she’s sick with any sort of plague, of course, and there haven’t been any reported cases of illness from those who have come into contact with her so far. But all of that could change at any given moment, and when it comes to Ivy’s life–or the lives of anyone in my kingdom, for that matter–I have no intention of taking it lightly. Alpha Fierro hesitates for a moment. “I’ve been having my Beta send me reports tracking the symptoms he’s seen from some of the infected pack members we’ve got under observation,” he says. “But my Beta is–well.” He stops speaking abruptly, gaze momentarily taken over by sadness. “He’s deteriorating rapidly, to

Spencer’s POVAs I tear my way through the hospital and back towards the place, a million thoughts are racing through my mind. “Where’s he been staying since I turned him away?” I ask Beta Wilson, moving as quickly as I can. The day of my wedding, he’d somehow managed to fistfight his way past all my staff and slip past the wedding chaos to my penthouse. He’d knocked on my door like a madman before pleading with me to take his meeting–the only reason I even did was because I hold a fair amount of respect for the Sunclash pack. But the man had been blabbering on and on about some sort of curse rained down from hell that had overtaken his punishment, and he’d seemed all but mad, and I’d had a million other things on my mind since. “He’s been staying in a hotel within the kingdom for the past week,” Beta Wilson replies. “I’ve done my best to reach out to him over the past couple days, but he’s remained adamant that he only wanted to speak with you. At first I thought it best not to le

Spencer’s POV“No matter what happens to me, swear you’ll always take care of Tala.” Something in the solemnity of Ivy’s words jolts me right back to reality. Immediately, I realize just how unstable I’m acting–threatening the very doctors and nurses who are trying to save Ivy couldn’t be a more impractical use of my time, and it’s certainly not the kind of support Ivy needs right now. What’s happening to her would be terrifying enough even without all the uncertainty–my own overreaction certainly isn’t something she needs to be worrying about right now. Above all else, she needs to know I’m there for her. “Oh, Ivy, of course I’ll always take care of Tala,” I tell her gently. “You don’t need to worry about that at all. She’s my daughter, and I love her. I swear I’ll do everything in my power to make sure she never has a care in the world. Jason, too–I want him to be my son as well.
