Soren – POV

The office was a mess, buzzing with tension. People tiptoed around me, subtly dropping hints and questions: When will Raisel be back? We need her to move forward. I knew they needed answers from her, but I wasn’t about to push. She deserved space—time to heal. Losing someone is one thing, but watching a man die in front of you, a man you once cared for? That’s a whole other kind of trauma.

Me? I felt the opposite. There was a sense of calm in knowing one of the bastards was finally out of the picture. Dead and gone.

Still, the work couldn’t wait. I stepped in, made a decision on her project. It was something Raisel would’ve approved of—or at least

I hoped so. I couldn’t let the deadline slip.

It was late when the call came. I was sitting at my desk, nursing a cup of lukewarm coffee, when my phone buzzed.

“Mr. Soren Dalton,” the voice on the other end said. It was Officer Denvor, the man in charge of the investigation into Nancy’s murder.

“Speaking,” I replied, already brac

Pretend you’re in love with me.”I blinked, trying to keep my composure. “And what happens if I don’t accept your deal?” I asked, my voice barely steady. His smirk darkened, curling his lips into something both handsome and sinister. “Then you and Soren are in for a rough time,” he warned. He let that threat hang in the air before continuing, his words like venom. “Your project—the one launching the new car? It’ll stay nothing more than a dream. I’ll make sure of it.”My stomach dropped.I gulped. This man is heartless. No empathy at all. He’s… he’s the devil himself.“I… I…” I stammered, unable to string words together.“I’m giving you three hours to think it over,” he said with that insufferable smirk still plastered on his face. To most, he might look charming; to me, he was the worst kind of monster. Untamed.

Not at all.Joshua’s eyes darkened with intrigue. “And what might those be?” he asked. He didn’t shut me down immediately, which meant there was hope—however slim—that I could claw my way out of this mess.“You will respect boundaries,” I demanded, my tone sharp. “When I say no, it means no. You won’t blackmail me or manipulate me into doing things.”He leaned back, exuding the kind of confidence only a man like him could radiate. “I don’t have to force you into anything, Raisel. You’ll beg me for it,” he said smugly, his arrogance filling the room like a storm cloud.I rolled my eyes so hard I was sure they’d stick. Soren’s POV“Mission Raisel accomplished.” A smirk tugged at my lips as I read Jace’s text on my phone. Perfect. Everything had fallen into place—because I made sure it did. It took a lot of manipulation to create this so-called “problem” and ensure Raisel would be the one to fix it. There’s no way I’m letting that asshole Joshua get anywhere near her.The temptation to storm into Chicago and drag her back home myself was almost unbearable. But that would only make her hate me more. And Raisel hating me? That’s the one thing I can’t risk.“Sir, the situation is getting worse.” Gwen’s voice cut through my thoughts. She entered the office, her expression tight with worry.I glanced at her calmly, and she frowned, as though confused by my lack of panic. “You don’t seem concerned. Sir, if we don’t fix this, we’re out of car models, out of investors, and ultimately... out of business.”“Take a breath, Gwen,” I said. She nodded, though the tension in her shoulders didn’t ease. His presence alone was enough to tighten every throat in the room.“As you all know, there’s been an issue with the car sensor failing,” I began, my voice steady, calm, despite the storm brewing beneath my skin. “I’ve found a solution.”Soren’s voice sliced through the air like a blade. “What have you come up with?” His cold tone made the hair on the back of my neck rise.I didn’t flinch. “I’m getting to that, Mr. Dalton,” I replied, holding onto my composure. “I ran a series of diagnostic tests to pinpoint the exact conditions causing the sensor delay,” I said, my voice measured, professional.“And? What did you find?” His words were sharper now, laced with curiosity, but there was something else there—something darker.I clenched my fists under the table. “The issue could be caused by several

If I ignored him, he’d show up unannounced. I dragged myself to answer.“Morning,” he said.“It’s not,” I whispered flatly.“I know,” his tone carried a grim edge. “There’s a scandal blowing up. • Renting Billionaire Boyfriend   The Reaper

Soren - POVSusan sighed, shaking her head with a heaviness that filled the room. I sat on the edge of the couch, my patience thinning. She stood abruptly, walking off to her room without another word. Frustration twisted in my chest as I waited, but before I could follow her, she reappeared. In her hands were files, thick and stacked, which she dropped on the table in front of me.“What’s this?” I asked, picking up the top file. My hands tightened around it as I flipped through its contents. Photos of Raisel’s childhood in the orphanage, her college years, and, worst of all, her marriage to Alaric stared back at me. There she was, smiling—happy, even—standing next to him. A twisted knot of agony coiled in my gut. It never failed. Any time I saw Raisel with Alaric, whether in a photograph or in memories that refused to leave me alone, I’d spiral. I couldn’t think, couldn’t focus, couldn’t breathe.Instead, I’d bury the pain the only way I knew how—by drinking myself senseless in some

I clenched my jaw, trying to shrug it off, when the sound of a door creaking open caught my attention.“Gwen,” I exhaled, relief washing over me at the sight of her familiar, sympathetic expression. It was a breath of fresh air amid this suffocating tension. She handed me a file, and I flipped through the pages quickly. A solution to the current crisis was underway, but we weren’t out of the woods yet.“Thanks for bringing this. Soren - POVRocher and I sat in the basement, eyes locked on the grainy footage playing on the screen. The man wore a Reaper crest ring, but there was no identifier—no name, no visible face. Something blocked the camera’s view, leaving only his hand in sight. Judging by the roughness of his skin, he was likely in his late twenties or early thirties. I exhaled sharply. No new information. Nothing. Even the dark web held no trace of the Reaper mafia, as if they never existed. If it weren’t for Susan and the stories my grandfather used to tell—tales of his reckless youth and the rebels he ran with—I wouldn’t have even known this gang existed."Any luck?" Susan’s voice cut through the dim light of the basement, blending with the low hum of our laptops."Nah." I leaned back, rubbing a hand down my face. The exhaustion was settling in."It’s been six days." My voice came out rough, frustration slipping through as I ran my fingers through my hair."You look terrible. Go get cleaned up, and y

Raisel - POVI came back to Iowa because Susan’s health is getting worse. They’re keeping her under observation in the basement infirmary. Honestly, I just want to be with her. I lost my father—who was never much of a father at all—but deep down, I’ve always craved that kind of affection. Spending these weeks with Susan, all I can think about is her warm smile and the way she used to embrace me.I sighed, the steady beeping of the machines and the sharp smell of antiseptics only making my headache worse.“You should go rest. I’ll keep an eye on Susan,” Rocher said, sipping her coffee.“I’ll be fine,” I insisted.“Soren, Jace, Hazel, and Fiora are on their way.” The relief that washed over me at the thought of them coming to Iowa was almostoverwhelming. I’d missed them—missed Soren—so much. At least I wouldn’t have to face the nightmares alone.“How are you holding up?”“Me?” I blinked, surprised. She nodded.“Yeah, do you see anyone else here?” She pulled up a chair and sat down, her

Why are they so damn slow?”Susan’s squad was finally regrouping with Rocher, their faces drawn and bloody.“One of them slapped a tracker on Viktor’s car,” Rocher said, tossing me the keys. Raisel - POVIt’s been two days. I’ve been training like a maniac, chasing ghosts, and getting nothing but silence from Jace. He’s barely said a word, just pushed me harder, kept me quiet, and filled the gaps with bruises and exhaustion. Now, I’m standing in Viktor’s office again, my choice this time.“You should be sleeping,” he says as Viktor strides in, eyes sharp and cold.“I need to see Soren and Susan,” I reply, voice steadier than I feel.“Gunther, take her to them.”I flinch, surprised he agreed so easily, but I swallow it down and follow the man. The basement stairs groan beneath us, each step slower than the last. My pulse is a wild drumbeat in my ears.“Stop,” Gunther snaps, pulling a gun free. My body locks tight, instincts flaring.“What the hell—” The words barely leave me before Gunther's already barking into a walkie-talkie, voice clipped and panicked.“Code Red! I repeat, Code Red! As my vision cleared, I took in my surroundings—men dressed in black, handguns holstered at their waists, eyes cold and watchful. I tried to move, but my wrists and ankles were bound to the chair, and something rough was gagging my mouth. Panic surged when I glanced across the room and sawSusan, still unconscious, tied to a chair opposite me.“I’d suggest you don’t move,” a man next to me said coldly. His tone left no room for argument. I glared at him, my breath hitching as he nodded toward the floor.“You see that little wire connecting your chair to hers?” he asked, a cruel smirk playing at the corner of his mouth. I looked down, heart pounding. Shit. We were sitting on bombs—one wrong move, and we’d be blown to pieces.“Stay still,” he warned again, but my mind was racing. Where was she? If they had us, they must have her too. I had to find a way out of this.“You’re awake, I see—the l

I was sure Viktor had me under surveillance. How was I supposed to help Susan and Soren? The doorknob turned suddenly.“Sire Viktor summons you,” a housemaid announced. I followed her, trying to keep my nerves in check. When we arrived, Viktor was waiting, his gaze cold and commanding.“I want you to meet your trainer, Rivel,” he said, motioning to a man standing nearby. My eyes widened when I saw him—Jace. He was dressed in a simple T-shirt, shorts, and sneakers, but it was definitely him. I blinked, almost convinced my mind was playing tricks on me. But it wasn’t.“Jace! You’re working for Reaper?” I snapped, disbelief and betrayal flooding my voice.“Easy there, daughter,” Viktor said smoothly, his hand clamping down on my shoulder with a firm grip. Raisel - POVI gripped Soren’s hand tightly as I sat next to the ambulance, my heart pounding with a sickening sense of déjà vu. The last time I was here, he’d been shot, and now, poisoned. I fought to keep my tears at bay, forcing a deep breath as the ambulance tore through the streets. The vehicle screeched to a stop. Before I could gather my thoughts, the door swung open, and instead of hospital staff, a towering man in a black suit blocked my path.“What’s going on?” I demanded, panic creeping into my voice. “Where are you taking him?”Before I could get an answer, rough hands grabbed me, dragging me away.“Hey! Stop! Who are you people?” I shouted, struggling against the iron grip that pulled me into a dark, basement-like place.“Let go of me!” I screamed, my voice cracking. The man yanked me forward, unbothered. He cocked his gun, eyes cold and unfeeling.“Walk quietly. My sister doesn’t like loud voices,” he ordered icily. My heart stuttered as I glanced around, noticing armed

He touched Raisel.”“No…” Susan’s voice was barely above a whisper. "It wasn’t just that. This was a test, set by Viktor. He wanted to see if Raisel would become a victim or fight back. He kills the man after the work is done.”Raisel’s breath hitched, her hands trembling as the weight of those words settled in. I instinctively reached for her, clasping her fingers in mine. She turned to me, eyes filled with silent gratitude, but I could see how broken she was—just like I felt. What kind of father would do something this cruel?“My hu
