Julia POV

“I, Alpha Eric Montgomery, reject you, Julia Kent,” he says softly.  I see his face crumble as he bends over grabbing his chest.  I take a moment to pause before I burst out laughing.  “What the hell does that even mean?  You reject me?” I reply as I am now doubled over laughing.

“If you do not want to go out with me, a simple not interested would suffice,” I say as the humour starts to leave my body and anger takes over.  “For that matter, you did not need to drag me out here, to simply “reject me”,” I say using air quotes.  Men.  Just when you think you have found a decent man, he shows you his crazy in the first five minutes of meeting him.

“Accept it,” he says angrily.  I look at him incredulously.  “Absolutely not; I will not entertain your crazy,” I say turning away from him.  He grabs my arm, and my body betrays me with that bizarre warm feeling when he touches my skin.  I shrug his arm off, “I do not know what game you are playing pal, but do not touch me again,” I say as I turn to the door and pull it open wide.

“Accept my rejection,” he says once again coldly.  I look back to him, with a fire in my eyes, “No!” I reply before walking back into the kitchens and moving quickly to my station.  I arrived in time to check the final trays.  I see the mess had been cleaned up and the man was nowhere in sight.  I sighed in relief.  This part was over, and it had gone fabulously.  Except for the asshole I had just met.  Imagine.  I reject you.  What the hell was he on.  I knew the rich and famous had lots of money and access to lots of drugs, but this guy took the cake.

I stiffened as I felt Eric move back through the kitchens avoiding me.  Some were staring but I ignored them.  I was embarrassed by the weird display and wanted to forget about it.  Cami walked in, “Can you help us on the floor?  They have started the dancing, and we are getting swarmed out there,” she begs of me.

I quickly nod and remove my chef’s jacket.  Grabbing a tray of drinks, I move to the door and walk into the Gala.  My step falters as I see the beautiful colors of gowns and the gorgeous men and women laughing and talking.  All enjoying the evening’s festivities.  I start to move slowly through the mass crowd and indulge them as they accept their refreshments from me.

I turn to return to the kitchen to get more drinks, when movement catches my eye.  I look and see Eric with some woman draped over his arm, her hand on his shoulder.  They look very intimate and clearly know each other very well.  I cannot help the pain in my chest as I see him with her.

He turns and catches my eye.  When he sees me, I see a flash of anger cross his face, before his hand slips around the woman’s waist resting on the top of her ass.  The woman takes this as a sign to move closer to Eric, slipping her lips up to kiss his jaw.  He smirks at me, as I quickly turn away and return to the kitchen trying to catch my breath.

What was wrong with me?  Why was a man I barely knew bothering me so much?  I shook off the feeling, restocked my tray and returned to the hall avoiding the area I had seen Eric and his woman.  The night went quickly.  The dancing was beautiful, and you could feel the excitement and love in the air.

“Makes you wish you were one of them, doesn’t it?” Cami asks as we meet in the kitchen after the last of the drinks had been delivered.  There was a full bar also operating in the hall that would stay open until the wee hours of the morning when the celebrating finally wrapped up.

“Not at all,” I say crisply as I turn to start helping with the clean-up.  “How can you say that?  Those men are hot.  The women stunning.  I can only imagine how perfect their babies are,” she says wistfully.  I indulge her, smiling at her silliness, “Do not worry.  One day your Prince will come,” I promise her as I reflect on my encounter with the mysterious Eric.

Eric POV

I could smell Louisa’s arousal as we danced the remainder of the evening.  I would lose myself in her this evening, forget about my fated mate and consider taking a chosen mate.  I could not entertain a human for a mate.  Our species were top secret and indulging myself in having a human woman would be selfish and disrespectful to our people.

I had caught glimpses of Elizabeth and Carter.  The happiness on Elizabeth’s face was worth a thousand words.  Her event had been a huge success.  Many had found their fated mate.  Many were partying the night away while others stole away to mark their fated ones chosen by the Moon Goddess.

I felt a sense of bitterness towards the Moon Goddess.  Why?  Why would she have chosen a human woman for me?  The Prince of the Kingdom?  How was that possible?  And how was it fair?  I had heard of the rare times when a wolf had accepted a human mate; however, they had failed miserably at making the transition into our world.  This was for the best; I knew but could not help the feeling of loss.

“Let’s get out of here,” I hear Louisa murmur.  While I had not wanted to bother with her earlier, she would serve as a distraction this evening when I needed it most.  I take her hand roughly and tug her behind me.  I knew what she liked, and I heard her giggle at the promise of what was to come.

Julia POV

Cami and I make our way out of the kitchens and into the fresh air.  The night was chilly, and I pulled my coat tighter around my body wanting to avoid getting too cold.  Cami and I hurried to the vehicle when I felt my footstep falter.  I went down on one knee as the pain in my abdomen burned viciously.

I cried out in pain, as Cami came to my side, “What is it? What is wrong?” she demands as she looks to see if I have hurt myself.  “I do not know,” I whisper.  “It is like I am being stabbed in my stomach,” I share with her as tears fill my eyes.  She looks around and sees a couple walking towards us.

“Please help us.  My friend is injured,” Cami calls out to them.  They quickly come over as I am now doubled over in pain.  The couple look to one another when another couple quickly arrives.  “Let’s get her to the hospital,” the woman says as the man moves forward and picks me up in his arms.

The pain is starting to subside, and I am feeling a little foolish at my response to the pain when another wave builds up inside me.  This time it feels like fire is raging through my body.  I am clutching at my abdomen once again.  “If I did not know better, I would think she had been rejected tonight,” the woman murmurs with concern.

Eric POV As I thrust one last time into Louisa, I roar my release. The roar was not for an amazing experience but for the pain I felt at losing my fated mate. “That was incredible,” Louisa says as I slip out of her body. I quickly move to the side of my bed and move towards the washroom. I jump into the shower to wash off Louisa’s scent. It sickens me, after scenting my fated. I lean my head against the shower stall and consider all that has happened this evening. All that should have been. It should have been Julia in my bed tonight. That beauty would consume me for years to come, regardless of who I take as a chosen mate. Before I can process anything else, I hear a frantic call through my mind-link from Elizabeth. “What is it?” I reply. “Please come to the Pack hospital at once. We have a situation and I do not know what to do,” she says urgently. For Elizabeth to call out to me at this point in the evening, I knew t

My eyes close from exhaustion when I feel the tip of a straw at my lips. I slowly open my eyes once again and take a sip of the water. Julia POV “What the hell is that?” I murmured to Cami as we left the Palace property. She followed my gaze off to the right in the distance. “It looks like wolves. How is that possible?” she asked quietly, as we continued driving towards the city. “I have never heard of wolves around here before,” I said softly as I considered the beauty of the animals that seemed closer than they were. Cami did not slow down and got us home forty minutes later. “How are you feeling?” she asked me. “I am still sore, but much better than I was last night,” I promised her as she pulled the car to a stop in front of my apartment building. “Are you sure? Maybe I should take you to the local hospital,” she suggested as I looked at her. I smiled, “I am fine; I think it would be a slap in the face if we did not trust the Palace’s doctor,” I stated to her laughing at how silly it sounded. Eric POV What the hell was that? I looked up and realized my mate was screaming in fear. I looked around and saw nobody else standing here and realized she was screaming at me! I took a step forward as she took a step backwards. With my wolf hearing, I could hear someone on the other end of the line. Realizing she had called the police, I stepped forward taking the phone from her hand. “Hello? This is Prince Eric, please send the police to this address for further investigation,” I say before handing the phone back to Julia so she could try to give them the address. After she hung up, she simply stared at me. “Why are you here?” she asked me as she tried to stop her shaking hands. “I wanted to ensure you arrived home safely,” I replied as I looked around her bedroom recognizing it was as messy as the living area. “I assume you do not always live like this?” I inquired as she glared at me. “No, I do not alway

He rested his forehead on mine, and I enjoyed the warmth his skin brought to my body. I knew I was starting to go into shock. Realizing I had stumbled upon someone who had still been in the apartment when I arrived home was starting to set in.What were they looking for? And how did they get out of the fire escape door? Before I could think about it any longer, Eric stepped away from me and walked towards the sitting room in my small apartment. I was embarrassed that he had seen my sparsely furnished space while he came from luxury. Silly, giving my head a shake, he was simply being polite following up on me to make sure I arrived home safely. Likely worried they might be sued, for the food poisoning I had suffered, I think with a chuckle.Following Eric, I see him already in a conversation with the polic

I looked at him realizing he was serious, “I do not know you. And our interactions to date have not been memorable,” I replied as I started to look around for my phone. Spotting it, I grabbed it and moved off to the side, putting a call through to Cami. Damn it! It goes directly to voice mail. Where could she be? I texted her asking her to call me as soon as possible. I tossed my phone down, and turned around startled that he was still staring at me. “What?” I asked snidely deciding to call my boss and let him know I would not be in tonight. After promising to be in tomorrow for my shift, I hung up and moved to my bedroom to grab a few things. “Miss, we have already asked you not to touch anything,” the officer reminded me. “I need a few thi

Julia POV As we drove away, I felt a pain inside my chest. Like something was wrong. I could not put my finger on it, but I knew it had something to do with Prince Eric. He was a puzzle I could not figure out. Why did he show up so suddenly? How did he seem to be there at the exact right time? The thought caused me to sit up straighter. Had he had something to do with the break in? What would his motive have been? I did not know but I would have to be more guarded around him. Assuming I would see him again. “Julia!” I hear Cami say sharply. “Hmm, what?” I asked distracted by my thoughts. “How are you doing?” she asked looking at me with concern. “I am okay, now that I am away from there,” I replied honestly. “You can stay with me as long as you need to,” she said watching the road. “Thank you; I am afraid to go back,” I admitted to her. “It is understandable. Julia POV I looked at Laura, concerned with her reaction. Aside from the reality that it was rude, it was also odd that she would be so bothered. She had not given any indication she was this bothered before. In fact, she seemed to understand why Lincoln was being held in the dungeons. “I am sorry Laura, but he poses too big a risk for us to release him,” Elizabeth replied. “Julia and Eric will assume responsibility for him. They will ensure he does not harm anybody,” Laura said. My body tensed at what she was suggesting. Before I could even respond, Eric said, “Absolutely not. There are children to consider, Laura, and I am not prepared to put them at risk given what his intentions have been.”. Laura let out a soft growl, reminding us all that she had a dormant wolf inside of her. “Julia?” she asked, looking to me for some support. I shook my head, “I am sorry Laura, but I agree with Eric,” I stated. She looked at me an

Julia POV I watched my mother frown as she nodded her understanding of needing to wait for Elizabeth to make the decision. I was surprised she had started on this again, even with Henrietta gone. “Can I take the babies for a walk?” Laura asked. I looked at Eric and then to her, “I think it is too soon to be taking them out on walks,” I said to her. I saw the look of anger cross her face, before disappointment took its place. “What is going on, Laura?” I asked, confused with her behaviour. “I want to feel useful. I am doing nothing to help,” she replied. “There will be plenty of time to help with the babies. Right now, they are far to young to be away from me and Eric,” I shared with her. I knew what I was saying was silly. Of course they could be away from me, but Eric and I had discussed how we wanted this time to bond with our babies. “You do not trust me, do you?” Laura asked angrily. I looked at her in surprise, “Tr

Eric POV We had an amazing few days with just us and the babies. They were adjusting to a normal routine so quickly; we could not have been more blessed. “I think Layla is already showing signs of being a Guardian,” Julia said to me. “What?” I asked, surprised and a little concerned. “There is this look in her eye, like she is far more advanced than having just been born a few days ago,” Julia shared. “We will have to do our best to encourage them both to stay young. I do not want them growing up too fast. There is a lot of responsibility that comes with being a Guardian,” I shared. “I agree. I only found out once I was grown, I cannot imagine the pressure she will be under at such a young age,” Julia agreed. As we continued to talk, I heard footsteps coming from the hallway. Laura came around the corner, “Am I intruding?” she asked, prepared to leave the room. “Not at all. We were just admiring the babie

Julia POV “Are you mad?” she whispered. “Mad? Are you crazy? I could not be prouder to know my mate is expecting our pup,” Jackson replied before capturing Cami’s lips in a passionate kiss. The room exploded with excitement, as everyone gathered around to congratulate the couple. I hugged Cami, with Beatrix between us. “I am so happy for you,” I said, as I wiped tears from my cheeks. “I am excited and terrified. We will have two babies under a year old. I cannot imagine,” she said, sounding a bit overwhelmed. I stared at her for a moment and then we both burst out laughing. With the twins, I also had two under the age of one. “We will figure it all out together,” I promised her as she hugged me again, before everyone else crowded in to get hugs. I could not believe how blessed we all were. With the four babies being gifted to us, and knowing their futures would be bright, and dangerous, I sat there for a moment as the re

I took my seat while Jackson stood by the chair where Cami and Beatrix were sitting. “It is not an easy answer,” Elizabeth starts to say as Cami gasps, her grip on Beatrix tightening. Elizabeth stepped forward and took a seat on the table directly in front of Cami. She reached out and touched the baby in Cami’s arms before looking to both Cami and Jackson. “I have worked out an arrangement,” she started to say when Jackson cut her off, “What kind of arrangement?”. “One where you get to keep Beatrix, for the time being,” Elizabeth said. I gasped, realizing that Cami may not get to keep Beatrix. I had assumed because she was here, she was theirs. I had forgotten about the witches who wanted Beatrix. “That does not sound good,” Cami stated as she rubbed the baby’s back. Jackson had his hand on Cami’s shoulde

Eric POV I held Julia in my arms for hours. I never stirred and as if sensing the need for this time, the pups did not stir either. I heard the doctor enter the room, “Prince Eric, we wanted to check on your mate, before we sign the release documents,” she said softly. I looked at her in surprise, “So soon?” I asked. “It is incredible. I ran the labs a short time ago, and she was already healing much further along that we would have expected. I suspect she has a strong wolf, who was able to take over once we had done all we could,” the doctor stated. I looked to her for a moment, before turning my head back to Julia. “You did it sweetheart,” I whispered as the doctor left me to wake my mate up. I leaned forward, kissing Julia’s lips softly. Moaning in her sleep, her arms wrapped around my neck, pulling me closer. Our tongues slid over one another, tasting each other, reconnecting and celebrating us. As our kiss deepened

Julia POV I laid there silently watching my family. Eric was asleep in the chair beside me. He was slumped over the bed, with his arm around my waist. I could hear the little satisfied sounds babies make when they first wake up. I loved that they were patient enough to wait for their daddy to wake. I lifted my arm, it was heavy and shaky, but I moved it to place it on Eric’s head. Playing with his hair, as I waited for him to wake up. I knew all that he had gone through was horrible. Watching me being rushed to the operating room, our babies being delivered without him being there. Waiting for me to wake up. It had been a long couple of days, but I finally opened my eyes. I did not think I would ever close them again, for fear of missing something. As my fingers moved through Eric’s hair, I felt him stir. I recognized the moment he realized something was different. He slowly turned lifted his head, look

Eric POV I watched as the twins were wheeled into Julia’s room. I went to her and told her that her babies were waiting for her. I kissed her warm lips softly, before stepping away to help set the twins up. It was late, and I wanted to get the twins settled before I stepped over to watch over Julia. Both twins fussed for a couple minutes but quickly settled after they had a bottle. I kissed each child, “Your mommy is going to be with you soon; I promise,” I murmured to them both. The nurse looked to me, “Would you like me to stay?” she asked quietly. I looked to her, “No, thank you for everything you have done,” I responded as she nodded and walked from the room. Everyone had left, as I had requested, so it was just the four of us. I could hardly grasp everything that had happened today. From finding out Henrietta had been under our noses all along. To having the twins arrive, to almost losing my mate. I did not care what

Eric POV I watched Julia fight to survive; I held my breath waiting. The intense sound of the alarm signalling death was unnerving. I started to turn away, my heart in my throat, ready to crumble to the ground. Suddenly there was a faint blip in the sound. It did not fully register with me until I heard a second … and then a third. I heard a gasp from one of the medical team, “She is alive,” they stated. “Barely. We need to get her to the ICU. Finish stitching her up, and then we will move her quickly,” the doctor said. I watched in disbelief as they prepared Julia for the ICU. “Is she in any pain?” I asked, alarmed at everything that was happening around me. “We do not know; we will give her something to help just in case,” the doctor assured me. I watched as they finished and rushed Julia to another area. Realizing I had forgotten about our pups, I turned to see them being wheeled away, “Where are you taking them?” I as
