Julia POV

“I, Alpha Eric Montgomery, reject you, Julia Kent,” he says softly.  I see his face crumble as he bends over grabbing his chest.  I take a moment to pause before I burst out laughing.  “What the hell does that even mean?  You reject me?” I reply as I am now doubled over laughing.

“If you do not want to go out with me, a simple not interested would suffice,” I say as the humour starts to leave my body and anger takes over.  “For that matter, you did not need to drag me out here, to simply “reject me”,” I say using air quotes.  Men.  Just when you think you have found a decent man, he shows you his crazy in the first five minutes of meeting him.

“Accept it,” he says angrily.  I look at him incredulously.  “Absolutely not; I will not entertain your crazy,” I say turning away from him.  He grabs my arm, and my body betrays me with that bizarre warm feeling when he touches my skin.  I shrug his arm off, “I do not know what game you are playing pal, but do not touch me again,” I say as I turn to the door and pull it open wide.

“Accept my rejection,” he says once again coldly.  I look back to him, with a fire in my eyes, “No!” I reply before walking back into the kitchens and moving quickly to my station.  I arrived in time to check the final trays.  I see the mess had been cleaned up and the man was nowhere in sight.  I sighed in relief.  This part was over, and it had gone fabulously.  Except for the asshole I had just met.  Imagine.  I reject you.  What the hell was he on.  I knew the rich and famous had lots of money and access to lots of drugs, but this guy took the cake.

I stiffened as I felt Eric move back through the kitchens avoiding me.  Some were staring but I ignored them.  I was embarrassed by the weird display and wanted to forget about it.  Cami walked in, “Can you help us on the floor?  They have started the dancing, and we are getting swarmed out there,” she begs of me.

I quickly nod and remove my chef’s jacket.  Grabbing a tray of drinks, I move to the door and walk into the Gala.  My step falters as I see the beautiful colors of gowns and the gorgeous men and women laughing and talking.  All enjoying the evening’s festivities.  I start to move slowly through the mass crowd and indulge them as they accept their refreshments from me.

I turn to return to the kitchen to get more drinks, when movement catches my eye.  I look and see Eric with some woman draped over his arm, her hand on his shoulder.  They look very intimate and clearly know each other very well.  I cannot help the pain in my chest as I see him with her.

He turns and catches my eye.  When he sees me, I see a flash of anger cross his face, before his hand slips around the woman’s waist resting on the top of her ass.  The woman takes this as a sign to move closer to Eric, slipping her lips up to kiss his jaw.  He smirks at me, as I quickly turn away and return to the kitchen trying to catch my breath.

What was wrong with me?  Why was a man I barely knew bothering me so much?  I shook off the feeling, restocked my tray and returned to the hall avoiding the area I had seen Eric and his woman.  The night went quickly.  The dancing was beautiful, and you could feel the excitement and love in the air.

“Makes you wish you were one of them, doesn’t it?” Cami asks as we meet in the kitchen after the last of the drinks had been delivered.  There was a full bar also operating in the hall that would stay open until the wee hours of the morning when the celebrating finally wrapped up.

“Not at all,” I say crisply as I turn to start helping with the clean-up.  “How can you say that?  Those men are hot.  The women stunning.  I can only imagine how perfect their babies are,” she says wistfully.  I indulge her, smiling at her silliness, “Do not worry.  One day your Prince will come,” I promise her as I reflect on my encounter with the mysterious Eric.

Eric POV

I could smell Louisa’s arousal as we danced the remainder of the evening.  I would lose myself in her this evening, forget about my fated mate and consider taking a chosen mate.  I could not entertain a human for a mate.  Our species were top secret and indulging myself in having a human woman would be selfish and disrespectful to our people.

I had caught glimpses of Elizabeth and Carter.  The happiness on Elizabeth’s face was worth a thousand words.  Her event had been a huge success.  Many had found their fated mate.  Many were partying the night away while others stole away to mark their fated ones chosen by the Moon Goddess.

I felt a sense of bitterness towards the Moon Goddess.  Why?  Why would she have chosen a human woman for me?  The Prince of the Kingdom?  How was that possible?  And how was it fair?  I had heard of the rare times when a wolf had accepted a human mate; however, they had failed miserably at making the transition into our world.  This was for the best; I knew but could not help the feeling of loss.

“Let’s get out of here,” I hear Louisa murmur.  While I had not wanted to bother with her earlier, she would serve as a distraction this evening when I needed it most.  I take her hand roughly and tug her behind me.  I knew what she liked, and I heard her giggle at the promise of what was to come.

Julia POV

Cami and I make our way out of the kitchens and into the fresh air.  The night was chilly, and I pulled my coat tighter around my body wanting to avoid getting too cold.  Cami and I hurried to the vehicle when I felt my footstep falter.  I went down on one knee as the pain in my abdomen burned viciously.

I cried out in pain, as Cami came to my side, “What is it? What is wrong?” she demands as she looks to see if I have hurt myself.  “I do not know,” I whisper.  “It is like I am being stabbed in my stomach,” I share with her as tears fill my eyes.  She looks around and sees a couple walking towards us.

“Please help us.  My friend is injured,” Cami calls out to them.  They quickly come over as I am now doubled over in pain.  The couple look to one another when another couple quickly arrives.  “Let’s get her to the hospital,” the woman says as the man moves forward and picks me up in his arms.

The pain is starting to subside, and I am feeling a little foolish at my response to the pain when another wave builds up inside me.  This time it feels like fire is raging through my body.  I am clutching at my abdomen once again.  “If I did not know better, I would think she had been rejected tonight,” the woman murmurs with concern.

Eric POV As I thrust one last time into Louisa, I roar my release. The roar was not for an amazing experience but for the pain I felt at losing my fated mate. “That was incredible,” Louisa says as I slip out of her body. I quickly move to the side of my bed and move towards the washroom. I jump into the shower to wash off Louisa’s scent. It sickens me, after scenting my fated. I lean my head against the shower stall and consider all that has happened this evening. All that should have been. It should have been Julia in my bed tonight. That beauty would consume me for years to come, regardless of who I take as a chosen mate. Before I can process anything else, I hear a frantic call through my mind-link from Elizabeth. “What is it?” I reply. “Please come to the Pack hospital at once. We have a situation and I do not know what to do,” she says urgently. For Elizabeth to call out to me at this point in the evening, I knew t

My eyes close from exhaustion when I feel the tip of a straw at my lips. I slowly open my eyes once again and take a sip of the water. The cool feeling of water trickling down my throat gave me a reprieve from the dryness. “I do not know,” Cami whispers. “Why are you whispering?” I ask her confused as to what is happening. “Where am I?” I ask out loud. I recognize I am in a hospital, but Cami almost seemed scared. Looking around to make sure nobody was around, Cami leans down to me, “You are in a hospital. The Palace hospital,” she says shoc

Julia POV “What the hell is that?” I murmured to Cami as we left the Palace property. She followed my gaze off to the right in the distance. “It looks like wolves. How is that possible?” she asked quietly, as we continued driving towards the city. “I have never heard of wolves around here before,” I said softly as I considered the beauty of the animals that seemed closer than they were. Cami did not slow down and got us home forty minutes later. “How are you feeling?” she asked me. “I am still sore, but much better than I was last night,” I promised her as she pulled the car to a stop in front of my apartment building. “Are you sure? Maybe I should take you to the local hospital,” she suggested as I looked at her. I smiled, “I am fine; I think it would be a slap in the face if we did not trust the Palace’s doctor,” I stated to her laughing at how silly it sounded. She joined me before I turned and looked towards my apartm

Eric POV What the hell was that? I looked up and realized my mate was screaming in fear. I looked around and saw nobody else standing here and realized she was screaming at me! I took a step forward as she took a step backwards. With my wolf hearing, I could hear someone on the other end of the line. Realizing she had called the police, I stepped forward taking the phone from her hand. “Hello? This is Prince Eric, please send the police to this address for further investigation,” I say before handing the phone back to Julia so she could try to give them the address. After she hung up, she simply stared at me. “Why are you here?” she asked me as she tried to stop her shaking hands. “I wanted to ensure you arrived home safely,” I replied as I looked around her bedroom recognizing it was as messy as the living area. “I assume you do not always live like this?” I inquired as she glared at me. “No, I do not alway

Julia POVStartled by the sudden noise, I paused as I realized I had wanted Eric’s lips on mine. The man was clearly crazy so what did it say about me wanting him to kiss me? He rested his forehead on mine, and I enjoyed the warmth his skin brought to my body. I knew I was starting to go into shock. Realizing I had stumbled upon someone who had still been in the apartment when I arrived home was starting to set in.What were they looking for? And how did they get out of the fire escape door? Before I could think about it any longer, Eric stepped away from me and walked towards the sitting room in my small apartment. I was embarrassed that he had seen my sparsely furnished space while he came from luxury. Silly, giving my head a shake, he was simply being polite following up on me to make sure I arrived home safely. Likely worried they might be sued, for the food poisoning I had suffered, I think with a chuckle.Following Eric, I see him already in a conversation with the polic

I looked at him realizing he was serious, “I do not know you. And our interactions to date have not been memorable,” I replied as I started to look around for my phone. Spotting it, I grabbed it and moved off to the side, putting a call through to Cami. Damn it! It goes directly to voice mail. Where could she be? I texted her asking her to call me as soon as possible. I tossed my phone down, and turned around startled that he was still staring at me. “What?” I asked snidely deciding to call my boss and let him know I would not be in tonight. After promising to be in tomorrow for my shift, I hung up and moved to my bedroom to grab a few things. “Miss, we have already asked you not to touch anything,” the officer reminded me. “I need a few thi

Julia POV As we drove away, I felt a pain inside my chest. Like something was wrong. I could not put my finger on it, but I knew it had something to do with Prince Eric. He was a puzzle I could not figure out. Why did he show up so suddenly? How did he seem to be there at the exact right time? The thought caused me to sit up straighter. Had he had something to do with the break in? What would his motive have been? I did not know but I would have to be more guarded around him. Assuming I would see him again. “Julia!” I hear Cami say sharply. “Hmm, what?” I asked distracted by my thoughts. “How are you doing?” she asked looking at me with concern. “I am okay, now that I am away from there,” I replied honestly. “You can stay with me as long as you need to,” she said watching the road. “Thank you; I am afraid to go back,” I admitted to her. “It is understandable. Do you have any idea what they were after?” she asked. S

Cami rushed to the windows whipping the curtains shut and peeking out to see if the car who had been following us was out there. “Nothing yet,” she murmured as she shut the curtains. “I do not understand what happened between going to work the event to coming home. Why is someone suddenly after you?” Cami asked me. “I have no idea. The police thought it was one person who was in my apartment, but that car had two people in it,” I stated. “You are right, there were definitely two people in that vehicle that was chasing us,” Cami agreed as she stood up to start pacing the apartment. “And whoever it was did not take anything?” she asked me. “Not that I could tell but I was rushed and had the police and Prince Eric watching me the entire time,” I shared with Cami. “Where did the prince come from?” Cami asked. “What do you mean?” I replied curious

Julia POV We came downstairs the next morning to find Laura sobbing in the sitting room. I looked around to see if anyone had brought her anything for breakfast. Walking towards her, I asked, “Have you eaten?”. She looked up at me with her wet cheeks and bloodshot eyes and spit out, “It is because of you he left!”. “He tried to have Eric killed last night. If he had not left on his own, I was going to kick him out. The only unfortunate part is he did not take you with him,” I replied calmly. “Julia,” Eric started to say but I held my hand up. “I do not know who you are, but my mother never pined away for a man in her life. It is like by saving you, you lost a piece of yourself,” I told her. She looked at me and wiped her cheeks, “I need to leave. I need to find him,” she murmured. “Do you know how to find him?” I asked, as we still wanted to get him back. “I think I could find my way,” she mumbled, as she stood and moved

Julia POV As we shifted and raced back home, I considered how I was going to handle Lincoln. He needed to go; I simply did not know if he would go peacefully. Did it matter, I thought to myself. Eric stuck close to me, offering me his warmth to help deal with the anger I felt. I was furious that so many lives had been risked tonight and for what? As we arrived at the clearing, we both shifted and put our clothes on. Eric turned to me, “Whatever happens, you have my support,” he stated. “I appreciate that; there is only one solution,” I replied as we walked towards the house. “Make the right decision for you. You have much to learn, still,” he reminded me. “There must be other ways to learn,” I replied as we walked into the open door of the house. As we walked in, it was eerily silent. Eric nudged me behind him. I rolled my eyes but allowed my man to take the lead as I listened intently for any movement. There was nothi

Eric POV Lincoln was up to something. What I did not know, but it was something. As I lay there considering everything, with Julia snuggled in my arms, I hear an alarm through the palace mind-link. “Rogues! Rogue attack happening at the main border!!!” came through in a panic. We never had rogue attacks. In fact, we often raided rogue hideouts to ensure we did not have any situations to take care of. I jumped up, with Julia looking at me startled. “What is happening?” she asked sleepily. “Rogues; I want you to stay with your guards until we are certain you are safe,” I said to her as I threw on a pair of basketball shorts. Julia moved out of the bed, “No,” she replied as she grabbed a t-shirt of mine and threw it over her naked body. “Julia,” I started to say when she cut me off. “You will be too distracted worrying about me, if you leave me behind. I am going with you” she said with finality. “This cou

Julia POV I spent the afternoon training once again with Lincoln. We were introduced to our security details. Lincoln was as ungracious as ever, already starting to alienate himself from those around him. I ignored his attitude and simply focused on learning. Eric was there once again, watching over me and assuring himself Lincoln was only focused on training. It was an intense fight, and I was loving it. A few times Lincoln almost got the better of me, but I managed to deflect his hits and prevent him from kicking my stomach. I felt angry when he tried and went at him like a mama bear protecting her pups. Good lord, now I was thinking like the rest of them, I thought with a chuckle. I would die for these babies. They were the best of Eric and me. I loved them already so intensely it hurt. Distracted I got a kick in the face, when Eric yelled, “Enough!”. He raced over to me, as my dislocated jaw quickly mended. I was good

Julia POV It was time. We were almost to the palace, and I could not wait to get back to Eric’s place. He kept reminding me it was our place, but it was still surreal to think I lived in a palace. I was home. With Eric, he was home for me and that was all that mattered. I could see the front of his house, and my breath caught. Cami was waiting for us, with Jackson by her side. She was beaming, and I was bouncing in my seat to get out of the vehicle. As soon as it stopped, I flew the door open and ran into my best friend’s waiting arms. “I cannot believe you are here; I have been so worried about you,” Cami murmured as we stood there holding one another, tears of joy rolling down our cheeks. “I know; I was not sure when I would see you again,” I blubbered on. Cami stepped back and looked at me. She placed her hand on my small baby bump and smiled, “Two happy babies in there,” she commented before remov

Julia POV I felt nauseous at the conditions Eric had just accepted. He was putting our entire relationship on the line for something we may not be able to control. “I disagree,” I stated angrily. Eric looked to me, realizing that he should have spoken with me first before agreeing to such a ridiculous condition. “Too late, the deal has been struck. Or do you not trust your mate to protect you?” Lincoln taunted, softly. “Aren’t I the strongest wolf? If I am, then the question should be, do you not trust me?” I asked. Lincoln looked at me for a moment before he looked away. “I do not want to lose you so quickly after I just found you,” he murmured. “Taking me from my mate is not the way to accomplish that,” I replied. I did not add that I did not look to him as a father figure. Lincoln looked back to me, “Well, I hope your mate can prove his ability to protect us, or the three of us will be leaving together,” he said as he t

Julia POV The food was delicious, and our night together, reconnecting, was amazing. I had gotten up early, out of habit, as I needed to be ready for my training session with Lincoln. Eric sat up groggily in the bed, “Where are you going, so early?” he asked. “I have a training session that I need to get to,” I replied. Eric was instantly alert, “I am going with you. I do not trust that bastard, and I am not letting you deal with him alone,” he stated. I was going to tell him it was alright; I could handle this on my own, but I knew it would not stop him. He had a strong desire to be with me and protect me. And I had an equally strong desire to let him, I thought with a smile. Eric quickly threw on some gym pants, and a t-shirt and he was ready to roll. I smiled at him, and he paused, “What?” he asked as he moved closer, pulling me into his arms. I wrapped my arms around his neck, bringing his lips to mine, “Good morning,”

Eric POV “Will you stay with Lincoln, or will you come home with me?” I asked Julia. I waited, nervously, for her to reply. What was likely seconds seemed like forever, “Wherever you are is home for me,” she replied moving into my arms. “I love you so much, sweetheart,” I said to her. She looked up at me with her beautiful eyes, “I love you more,” she replied with a smile. I held her in my arms, happy that we had found a way forward. A plan to start with. “Let’s go and discuss our plans with Lincoln,” I suggested to Julia. She nodded, standing up and walking towards the washroom. She glanced back at me, “Shower first?” she teased as she raced to the washroom with me in hot pursuit. Later … much later … we were walking towards the dining area where Julia usually joined Lincoln and Laura. As we rounded the corner, we saw Lincoln and Laura in what seemed to be a tense conversation. As Laura saw us, she had a tentative smile.

Julia POV I laid in bed, feeling warm and cozy. I had the best rest and could only breathe in the scent of my mate. I must have been having a good dream to have his scent so strong surrounding me. I stretched out and then paused feeling an arm holding me close to their body. I screamed, and bounced off the bed, startling whoever had been holding me. I cleared my eyes and looked in shock as Eric looked back at me, confused with my reaction. “Eric?” I whispered, before I recognized he was in front of me, “Eric!” I squealed as I jumped back into bed and into his waiting arms. I kissed him all over his face, before landing on his smiling mouth. He had been laughing, but immediately captured my attention as his tongue slid into my mouth. I moved closer so I was straddling his body, his hardness awakening and pushing against my core. “When did you get here?” I asked, moving my head back slightly. “A while ago, I
