Chapter 32 - Target

Julia POV

I laid with Eric, as we chatted about my upbringing. Had my mother given any indication who my father was? How I could contact him … anything? But the answer was always no. I am sure my mother had her reasons, but given the dynamic change to my world, a heads up would have been nice.

I watched Eric struggle to get out of bed. It was time for him to be released. Although his leg continued to be an issue, he had been getting up, doing some physio and then getting back into bed exhausted for the past two days. I had reminded him I needed to get back to my life; I had jobs to get back to.

“Julia, it is not safe for you to return to the city. We need to know what we are dealing with,” he said, distracted by the pain in his leg. I could see sweat on his brow, as he stood and was moving towards the washroom. I wanted to help him, but I did not know how.

He took his clothes and shut the washroom

Julia POV “What does that mean – a target on my back?” I asked, confused by the comment. Eric looked to Carter, before looking at me. “There is something I have not had a chance to tell you,” Eric said, before looking away from me. “What?” I demanded, feeling a wave of nerves roll over me. Eric looked back at me, “The men who are after you are rogues,” Eric said looking back up at me. “What are rogues?” I asked, not clear what the issue was. Eric leans forward, “The wolves that attacked us the other night, were rogues. They are wolves who were banished from their own Packs, or they chose to leave their Packs,” he added. “Why would they be banished?” I questioned. “There are a variety of reasons for a rogue to be banished from a Pack; the bigger concern is why they are after you,” Carter stated. I looked to all of them, “I feel like there is so much to learn,” I shared with them, feeling overwhelmed at everything that was com

Eric POV I watched the smile take over Julia’s face as Cami threw herself in her arms. I stood behind Julia, bracing her so she would not be toppled over. I knew this would cheer her up before we had to figure out more about her identity. Julia and Cami were both crying tears of happiness, as Julia stepped back, placing her hands on Cami’s cheeks, “How are you here?” Julia asked. “This amazing man brought me here to visit you,” Cami said to Julia. Julia looked behind her, to Jackson, and smiled as she turned her stare back to Cami. “Thank you, Jackson,” Julia offered. She turned to look at me, but I have her a subtle head shake no. She could not speak to Cami about being a wolf. Jackson had not spoken with her about everything, and until then it had to be kept a secret. “How are you?” Julia said as they walked back to the sitting room. They continued to the sitting area, while I stayed back to speak with Jackson. “When wi

Cami POV I took a deep breath, hoping I was showing more confidence than I felt. I knew werewolves did not typically jive with witches, and the thoughts of a rejection from Jackson was weighing on me. I had been reluctant to show my cards so early, but I had no choice. It was time to come clean. As everyone sat around me, I noticed Jackson stood further away from me than he had since we had first met. The moment he touched me in the hospital, I had known he was my fated mate. I felt the sparks between us. Unlike wolves, we do not scent them, but we can tell by touch. It is more intense for us than a wolf will experience. I sat back in my seat, tucking my legs under me. Julia sat beside Eric. I noticed he sat closer to me than her, again wanting to protect her from me. I would never hurt her. I had been sworn to protect her. “Well?” Jackson asked coldly. I felt a twinge in my heart, but I had to get past it. I was a s

Julia POV I sat there in shock. “What just happened?” I asked. Eric stood up while Jackson moved forward trying to grab Cami before she vanished into thin air. “Fuck,” Jackson muttered as he swung his arms through where Cami had been standing. “For one, Jackson is going to have his hands full with his mate,” Eric said with a chuckle. Jackson turned and glared at Eric. “You know we cannot accept one another,” he muttered as Eric stood there in front of his friend. “I know nothing of the sort,” he replied as Jackson looked away. “You know Elizabeth has brought in witches before to help with Pack issues. She trusts them, and she would not condone turning your back on a fated mate who is a witch,” Eric stated to Jackson. Jackson looked back at him, “After everything we have been taught, how do I reconcile what I have learned with what my heart wants?” he asked Eric. Eric put his hand on Jackson’s shoulder. “Just do not give u

  • Rejecting the Prince's Mate   Chapter 37 - Prophecy

Eric POV I reread the passage Julia had found. “This is incredible,” I murmured as Julia sat there waiting expectantly. “We need to meet with Elizabeth and Carter, immediately,” I said to her as she sat in her chair. I stood up, and slowly stepped away from my chair. I cursed the slow healing of my leg but was grateful that Julia had saved me from a most certain death. “I want to know what it means,” Julia said, not moving from her seat. “Can I share it with you when we Elizabeth and Carter get here? They are on their way,” I shared with her. “No; I want to know now,” she replied, crossing her arms across her chest. I stared at her for a moment before sitting back down in the chair beside her. “I am sorry, sweetheart; I should have recognized you would not want to wait,” I said to her. She nodded her head, patiently waiting. “This passage that you found validates that you are in fact, a very rare, Guardian wolf,” I st

Eric POV I see Elizabeth and Carter stand, “I think it is time for us to go. Notify me as soon as you find Cami. We need to know whatever she knows,” Elizabeth says as her and Carter exit the room. Julia is standing beside me. She has not moved since asking me the question, “You did not want to accept me at your mate?”. I looked at her and could see the turmoil she was going through. “It is not quite as simple as that,” I started to say, before she cut me off. “Well break it down for me, Eric,” she said. I smiled at her attitude. My mate has a backbone. “I feared because you were human, that it would not work,” I said to her. She frowned, “So if I had not shifted into a wolf, you would have not wanted me as your mate?” she asked me. “No, I had already accepted you,” I reminded her. “But you did reject me when you first met me,” she reminded me. “I was an idiot,” I said to her. “You certainly sound like

  • Rejecting the Prince's Mate   Chapter 39 - Difficulty

Julia POV It had been a couple hours since I had stormed upstairs leaving Eric to fend for himself. I know I am new to this world, but it seemed that sleeping with someone else when you found your mate was fundamentally wrong. What had possessed him that night? What made sense? And the scariest part … did my night of pain have something to do with it all? I needed to talk to Cami. I grabbed my phone, glad I had it in my pocket when I raced upstairs. I had texted her a couple of times, trying to reach her but had not heard anything back. I hoped that meant she was busy and not that she was in danger. There had been so much I learned in the last couple of days, it was overwhelming. But it also felt like I had found my place. For so long, I had not felt like I belonged anywhere aside from with my mom. When I lost her, that feeling of being alone just got worse. Cami had filled some of that void, but Eric was truly the key

Julia POV Within minutes of receiving Cami’s text, Jackson was pacing in the sitting area, trying to track Cami’s phone. “What is taking so long?” Jackson asked as he stopped his pacing to look at Eric. “They are working as fast as they can,” Eric replied, while Jackson cursed. “What have I done?” he mumbled to himself. I felt sorry for him, recognizing that he was truly worried about Cami. Jackson sits putting his head in his hands. Eric moves over putting his hand on his friend’s shoulder, “We will get her back,” Eric promised. “I should not have let her leave,” Jackson mumbled. “I do not think you had a choice,” Eric replied with a chuckle. “If I had not pissed her off, she would not have left like that,” Jackson said. He had my phone and kept reading Cami’s messages. “Have you ever visited Cami’s home?” Eric asked me. I looked to him, “Yes, a few times. It is a nice place, on the opposite side of town as me,” I shared

Cami POV “How do you know who I am?” I asked, uncertain of what to say. “It is my job to know who is inquiring about me,” the individual responded. “Where are you?” I asked, wanting to get to my questions. “Do you think it would benefit me to share that information?” the individual responded. I paused. They were right. If I had the right person, who was in hiding, why would they try to help me? “Why are you hiding?” I asked. “Seriously? That is the question you want to ask me?” they taunted. I felt like I was on a time clock, and I did not know the skill testing question. “Why is your sister so mean?” I asked bluntly. I did not know if I was, in fact, talking to Martha, but it was worth a shot. I saw a smiley face with tears come across my screen. Are you kidding me?!? “She was born that way,” the individual responded. “So, you are her sister?” I tried to confirm. “I am someone very close to her,” th

Julia POV I looked at Laura, concerned with her reaction. Aside from the reality that it was rude, it was also odd that she would be so bothered. She had not given any indication she was this bothered before. In fact, she seemed to understand why Lincoln was being held in the dungeons. “I am sorry Laura, but he poses too big a risk for us to release him,” Elizabeth replied. “Julia and Eric will assume responsibility for him. They will ensure he does not harm anybody,” Laura said. My body tensed at what she was suggesting. Before I could even respond, Eric said, “Absolutely not. There are children to consider, Laura, and I am not prepared to put them at risk given what his intentions have been.”. Laura let out a soft growl, reminding us all that she had a dormant wolf inside of her. “Julia?” she asked, looking to me for some support. I shook my head, “I am sorry Laura, but I agree with Eric,” I stated. She looked at me an

Julia POV I watched my mother frown as she nodded her understanding of needing to wait for Elizabeth to make the decision. I was surprised she had started on this again, even with Henrietta gone. “Can I take the babies for a walk?” Laura asked. I looked at Eric and then to her, “I think it is too soon to be taking them out on walks,” I said to her. I saw the look of anger cross her face, before disappointment took its place. “What is going on, Laura?” I asked, confused with her behaviour. “I want to feel useful. I am doing nothing to help,” she replied. “There will be plenty of time to help with the babies. Right now, they are far to young to be away from me and Eric,” I shared with her. I knew what I was saying was silly. Of course they could be away from me, but Eric and I had discussed how we wanted this time to bond with our babies. “You do not trust me, do you?” Laura asked angrily. I looked at her in surprise, “Tr

Eric POV We had an amazing few days with just us and the babies. They were adjusting to a normal routine so quickly; we could not have been more blessed. “I think Layla is already showing signs of being a Guardian,” Julia said to me. “What?” I asked, surprised and a little concerned. “There is this look in her eye, like she is far more advanced than having just been born a few days ago,” Julia shared. “We will have to do our best to encourage them both to stay young. I do not want them growing up too fast. There is a lot of responsibility that comes with being a Guardian,” I shared. “I agree. I only found out once I was grown, I cannot imagine the pressure she will be under at such a young age,” Julia agreed. As we continued to talk, I heard footsteps coming from the hallway. Laura came around the corner, “Am I intruding?” she asked, prepared to leave the room. “Not at all. We were just admiring the babie

Julia POV “Are you mad?” she whispered. “Mad? Are you crazy? I could not be prouder to know my mate is expecting our pup,” Jackson replied before capturing Cami’s lips in a passionate kiss. The room exploded with excitement, as everyone gathered around to congratulate the couple. I hugged Cami, with Beatrix between us. “I am so happy for you,” I said, as I wiped tears from my cheeks. “I am excited and terrified. We will have two babies under a year old. I cannot imagine,” she said, sounding a bit overwhelmed. I stared at her for a moment and then we both burst out laughing. With the twins, I also had two under the age of one. “We will figure it all out together,” I promised her as she hugged me again, before everyone else crowded in to get hugs. I could not believe how blessed we all were. With the four babies being gifted to us, and knowing their futures would be bright, and dangerous, I sat there for a moment as the re

Julia POV “What does everyone mean?” I questioned, as Eric moved towards me, nudging me to sit down. I took my seat while Jackson stood by the chair where Cami and Beatrix were sitting. “It is not an easy answer,” Elizabeth starts to say as Cami gasps, her grip on Beatrix tightening. Elizabeth stepped forward and took a seat on the table directly in front of Cami. She reached out and touched the baby in Cami’s arms before looking to both Cami and Jackson. “I have worked out an arrangement,” she started to say when Jackson cut her off, “What kind of arrangement?”. “One where you get to keep Beatrix, for the time being,” Elizabeth said. I gasped, realizing that Cami may not get to keep Beatrix. I had assumed because she was here, she was theirs. I had forgotten about the witches who wanted Beatrix. “That does not sound good,” Cami stated as she rubbed the baby’s back. Jackson had his hand on Cami’s shoulde

Eric POV I held Julia in my arms for hours. I never stirred and as if sensing the need for this time, the pups did not stir either. I heard the doctor enter the room, “Prince Eric, we wanted to check on your mate, before we sign the release documents,” she said softly. I looked at her in surprise, “So soon?” I asked. “It is incredible. I ran the labs a short time ago, and she was already healing much further along that we would have expected. I suspect she has a strong wolf, who was able to take over once we had done all we could,” the doctor stated. I looked to her for a moment, before turning my head back to Julia. “You did it sweetheart,” I whispered as the doctor left me to wake my mate up. I leaned forward, kissing Julia’s lips softly. Moaning in her sleep, her arms wrapped around my neck, pulling me closer. Our tongues slid over one another, tasting each other, reconnecting and celebrating us. As our kiss deepened

Julia POV I laid there silently watching my family. Eric was asleep in the chair beside me. He was slumped over the bed, with his arm around my waist. I could hear the little satisfied sounds babies make when they first wake up. I loved that they were patient enough to wait for their daddy to wake. I lifted my arm, it was heavy and shaky, but I moved it to place it on Eric’s head. Playing with his hair, as I waited for him to wake up. I knew all that he had gone through was horrible. Watching me being rushed to the operating room, our babies being delivered without him being there. Waiting for me to wake up. It had been a long couple of days, but I finally opened my eyes. I did not think I would ever close them again, for fear of missing something. As my fingers moved through Eric’s hair, I felt him stir. I recognized the moment he realized something was different. He slowly turned lifted his head, look

Eric POV I watched as the twins were wheeled into Julia’s room. I went to her and told her that her babies were waiting for her. I kissed her warm lips softly, before stepping away to help set the twins up. It was late, and I wanted to get the twins settled before I stepped over to watch over Julia. Both twins fussed for a couple minutes but quickly settled after they had a bottle. I kissed each child, “Your mommy is going to be with you soon; I promise,” I murmured to them both. The nurse looked to me, “Would you like me to stay?” she asked quietly. I looked to her, “No, thank you for everything you have done,” I responded as she nodded and walked from the room. Everyone had left, as I had requested, so it was just the four of us. I could hardly grasp everything that had happened today. From finding out Henrietta had been under our noses all along. To having the twins arrive, to almost losing my mate. I did not care what
