Miranda POV My mother continues to unravel the first barrier as I simply stare at the mess in front of us. It was the signature of a powerful witch. A witch with psychopathic tendencies. She was strong. Her spells were as complicated as they could be. They wove into them little booby traps that would destroy anyone in its path. One wrong move and we would all be dead. “What?” Elizabeth asks. “This is not good,” I mutter as I move across from where we were standing to try and get a better look at what I was facing. “What?” Carter asks. I can sense their frustration building but I cannot take my eyes away from the masterpiece in front of me. If she was not so evil, she could have been an amazing asset to the Witches Council. “The spells. They are spells of an ancient witch. She is older than the warlock,” I share with them as I remain focused on the task ahead. There it is. I see the starting point straight ahead of me. I turn to look at
Miranda POV The four of us move forward removing spells as quickly as we can. The pressure knowing the King is suffering is adding to the tension surrounding us. I can feel the waves of pain coming from the building and know that the King is being tortured as we move in on him and Irene. Irene is a cunning witch. She will have a plan up her sleeve. We will need to stop her before she vanishes. I am uncertain how we can reach her in surprise, but we have to try. As we move towards the next barrier, Mark holds his hand up stopping all of us from moving forward. “We need to be smart about this. She knows we are coming, and she is focusing all her energy on what is happening inside of that building. She could very well kill the King before we get there,” he says. Turning to look at each of us, “Let’s split up. We can each take a path and come at her from all four directions. We cannot let her escape us once again. She will go underground, and
Elizabeth POV I lay there feeling my broken bones slowly start to mend. Ashley has been hit with a power we did not recognize. I lay there on the ground watching everything unfold around me. I see Carter rip the head off the witch’s neck. I see the green toxins flow in the place of blood. I see him crumble before me. I cannot make out what is happening. I see Miranda and the others trying to help Carter, but I see him pass out. I feel the moment I start losing my connection with him. I roll over trying to drag myself to him but can only go so far when I realize I am too broken to move. My fingers are digging into the earth, but I can no longer move forward. I try to cry out, but my breath is shallow. Something is restricting my lungs. “You need to calm down,” I hear a tired Ashley convey to me within our mind-link. “Carter,” I say to her, but she cuts me off. “Everyone is helping him. We need to help ourselves,” she reminds me as I rea
Miranda POV I am exhausted and look to Rick who opens his arms to me. He is my rock. I immediately feel the energy start to rise within me as I absorb his warmth. We stand like that in the hall of the hospital as the medical teams work to save Elizabeth and Carter. “You have done everything you could,” Rick murmurs to me knowing what I was thinking. “I hope so,” I reply as I close my eyes. Rick moves us towards a chair, and he pulls me into his lap. I rest my head on his shoulder ready to take a few moments to recharge my batteries. As I start to relax, I hear a flurry of activity coming from the entrance of the hospital. I stand as I watch the man with my mother carry a bloodied man through the halls in front of us. My mother was calling for help. One of the doctor’s from inside the room with Carter comes running out, “Goddess, what happened?” they ask as they call for nurses to come and help. Realizing it was their King in distress more m
Elizabeth POV Pondering the message from the Moon Goddess, I look up in surprise to see Eric entering my room on his own. “You are looking good, brother,” I say to him as I sit up in the bed. I cringe a little at the discomfort but manage to rise on my own. “What happened to you?” he asks as he sits down in the chair by my bed. “A punctured lung but I am on the mend,” I say to him. “How is the King and Queen?” I ask still not one hundred percent comfortable calling them mom and dad. “I do not know. Nobody is talking to me,” he says sounding frustrated. “What do you mean?” I ask concerned. I had no idea on my father, but was happening with my mother? “They do not know if father will make it,” he replies getting choked up. “And mother passed out when they got here. Nobody has said what is happening with her either,” he shares with me. I sit back and look straight ahead. Had I come this close to only lose them? I had not met my father yet.
Elizabeth POV I wipe the tears from my cheeks as I watch Carter’s vehicle depart. It has been three days since we had spoken about the future. I remember walking away from Carter as he yelled for me to come back. I could not grasp the meaning of what he was saying. He needed to get back to the Crescent Moon Pack. He was not a hundred percent better yet, but he was on the mend. He no longer needed the suction tube. He sounded like he had a bad chest cold, more than anything. I had not spoken with my mother either. My father remained in a coma. His wounds were slowly healing but certainly would take longer to heal. My mother continued to hold out hope his wolf would surface; however, the fact that the King continues to be healing slower than a usual high-ranking wolf, is indicative of the reality. I feel someone’s arms wrap around me and quickly accept that my brother is holding me offering both comfort and strength. “He will be
Elizabeth POV Seeing the wolves around us start to shift, Eric and I also shifted. I heard gasps from those who had not yet shifted. Seeing a silver wolf was apparently rare. There were some clapping excitedly. I felt uncomfortable with the attention. “Enjoy it, we deserve it,” Ashley says in my mind. I smile at her cheeky reply. We take off following close behind the lead warriors. There is a sense of panic among them, and I wonder why. Eric looks over to me, wanting to chat but knowing we could not as we could not mind link. I was not a part of this Kingdom. I did not know what the future held for me. We are racing through the forest when I get a sense that I am being surrounded by wolves. I look over to Eric and see he also is being surrounded by wolves. I realize they are doing this to offer protection for both of us. I feel a sense of anger but understand that this is what they are trained for. I cannot help pushing the
Elizabeth POV We raced back to the hospital as soon as the message came thorugh. I felt anxious at the thought of meeting my father for the first time. However, it was important to be there to see him. To see how he is and to learn whether he has in fact lost his wolf. I understood why it would be riskier for Eric to take over the Kingdom; it simply did not stop me from considering the implications to my life if I were to take over. We reached the edge of the forest and quickly put our clothing on. Fortunately, Eric had messaged for our clothing to be left there so we could get to the hospital faster. We ran the rest of the way, arriving in the entrance out of breath slightly at our hurried efforts. The waiting area is quite quiet. A mother with a young child is there waiting to see a doctor, but other than that nobody is around. We nod to the mother and child, before making our way back towards the entrance to our father’s room. I pause for
