Chapter 54

As Ethan stood in front of Gabriel under a bright full moon, his heart beat like a drum in his chest. The pack got together for the Moon Ceremony, which happened once a year and was a time to be together and think. It was a great place to say what had to be said.

Gabriel cleared his throat, never taking his eyes off Ethan. "Pack, I need to tell you something important that I should have told you a long time ago." His voice shook because he was both sorry and determined.

Ethan didn't move, and his hands were clenched at his sides. He had gone over his answer in his head a hundred times, but now that everyone was looking at him, he couldn't find the words.

"I turned down my fated mate," Gabriel said next, looking away for a moment. "I said no to Ethan because I didn't think he was good enough for me. I was wrong, though. I didn't see what was important."

The crowd let out gasps and murmured. It was a shocking thing for their boss to say.
