Joye
We both stood in silence while I tried to control the overwhelming emotions building up inside of me. So this was happening. An ordinary slave like me was being mated to the Lycan king. Never in my life did I think one of my daydreams would ever become reality. As we stood waiting for Kaelan's return, I decided to make use of the opportunity and ask his right-hand man some basic questions about the man who is my mate. The two of them seemed to be friends rather than just work companions. If anybody knew anything about Kaelan, it had to be this man.Deciding to speak to Aiden was an easy task, doing the talking was the difficult part. I had no idea how to start my sentence, or how to even pull his attention towards me. He seemed so serious and formal about everything, that I feared he might yell at me if I approached him with the wrong tone and words.Unlike Kaelan, the air around him was denser. He was always on guard at all times, and it made him appear strict despite his alluring facials."Is anything the matter, my lady?"'My Lady? Who?' I glanced around my surroundings trying to figure out who exactly Aiden was talking to. But when I found nobody, it dawned on me he was referring to me as 'my lady.'I saw his lips curl up in a mocking smile, and it further confirmed my suspicions.'Hell No!' I screamed mentally. I was not ready to be addressed so formally. It made me feel awkward, and I didn't like it one bit."My lady?" I questioned with a curious look on my face. My voice was faint, and I had doubts he even heard me."Yes." Came a firm reply. "Since you are the king's mate, it's only natural that I accord you the respect that you deserve.""Please don't call me that." I pleaded with my head hung low. I wasn't ready for such just yet."As you wish," Aiden replied. I wanted to tell him to stop with the excessive formality too, but I feared I might be asking way too much from someone I just met minutes ago. Now that we had sort of talked, the tension to ask him about Kaelan seemed to have reduced a little.I looked at him, not without trepidations. And finally asked. "Kaelan...." I paused.Aiden's eyes trailed to where I stood, and calmly, much to my surprise he asked. "Is there something you want to know about his majesty?"I nodded almost immediately. He understood me almost too well, and it was saving me the stress of talking too much. I was a big introvert, and conversations like this weren't my specialty."Tell me, what kind of man is he?" I had no idea how he was going to react to my question. He might flare up that I still doubted Kaelan's objective despite his kindness to me. Or he might not even give a damn about what my intentions for that question were. The result was the latter. His face lit up in a bright way that seemed to sap away the fear in me. This man was not a bad person."I can't say much, I think it would be best if you learned more about each other by yourselves. But I can assure you that he's a good man. And he's going to do everything in his power to make you happy." The man who I guessed his name to be Aiden, answered with no shred of doubt.I just met this man today, but I already trusted his words. He just had that kind of effect. He was nothing like the bastards that I have spent my life with."On a scale of one to ten... how... strict is he?" I asked, this time with a face turned away. All my life I've lived around these people who were never kind to me. I knew exactly how to react and act in front of every one of them to avoid getting into trouble. If I could learn more about Kaelan, I could be able to avoid getting on his bad side.Aiden laughed at my question, and at that moment my cheeks flushed red in embarrassment. I had only come to realize just how stupid my question was, and Aiden was making no effort in hiding its absurdity."You're a funny one aren't you?" It was a rhetorical question, one that I didn't need to answer, but I did anyways."I just want to know him better," I muttered, but he heard me."I've told you not to worry, your majesty is not strict to his subjects. He's going to treat you just right." Aiden reassured."What's this? You're already having fun with my mate in my absence, you're a backstabber Aiden."That voice, it was Kaelan. My knees immediately began to wobble and trickles of hot perspiration fell down my pale face. He was misinterpreting the whole situation, and now I had gotten Aiden in trouble. Or so I had thought. But the man walked straight to Aiden and threw his arms around the man cheerfully."Your majesty, please you should not do this. This is no way for a king to act." Aiden reminded. Kaelan's once expressive face got suppressed almost immediately, and I felt a wave of seriousness suddenly overwhelm the atmosphere. Aiden was like a strict parent, and Kaelan seemed to play along with Aiden's words.Their relationship was beautiful and I couldn't help but smile at them. I could feel the authenticity of their bond, and there was no shred of hostility between these men. This was the type of friendship I wanted for myself but never found one. Even the friendships within these walls were tainted with hate, and I could somehow sense it.Aside from their relationship, I couldn't help but praise the fluidity of Kaelan's personality. Hours ago, he was this hot-tempered man who was ready to crack open skulls without a second thought. Then in the next moment, he was a cheerful man who seemed to have no problems whatsoever, and in the next second, he was suddenly this man of royalty. I was loving him with every passing second. As if reading my thoughts, he walked straight to me and planted a kiss on my forehead before warming me up in his embrace."I'm sorry I kept you waiting." He apologized even though there was no need for that. He had no idea just how much the fact that he was taking me out of this place meant to me. Even if he had spent a month inside that meeting place, I would gladly wait for him without complaints."Aiden wasn't trying to hit on me or anything," I explained mildly while still being comforted by his warmth. I couldn't see his face, but I could sense he smiled childishly at my words."You wouldn't leave me for him, right?" He questioned playfully and I nodded in affirmation. "Your words are all that matters, and I'll believe them no matter what."I was close to tears. Aside from my mother, never in my life have I ever felt this important to somebody else. I just prayed deep down in my heart that all this wasn't a scheme to take me away into an even worse place. I understood the reason for my intrusive thoughts, but so far these men have shown no sort of hostility towards me.Kaelan pulled away from the embrace before asking me about my mother."You can bring her with us if you want." He informed.I had already asked Mother, and she said she won't be coming along with me. She wanted me to enjoy my new life without having to worry about her or anybody else. That is how kind Mama is."She's not coming with me." I provided. "She said that I should not worry about her."He took my hand and squeezed it gently as we proceeded toward the car. "You can visit her anytime you want. And If she ever changes her mind, our doors are always open for her to come in."I bowed slightly in appreciation. Before asking, "King Kaelan, where are we going to?"The whole part that I referred to him as king seemed to have thrown him off a bit. And just like I did with Aiden, he requested that I not address him so formally. After that, he then answered my question. "Your new home."Those words brought warmth to my soul, and my entire body felt relaxed. So much so that I dozed off almost immediately I got settled inside the car. No one could blame me, I barely got enough sleep and was tired from all the torturous activities I'd been put through.I lost track of time, but the next time I opened my eyes, we were in front of a big edifice. I couldn't tell what time it was, but it was obvious our journey was a lengthy one.Kaelan held the door open for me and aided me in alighting from the vehicle. Then with a bright smile on his face, he said, "Welcome to our new home."KaelanI watched as her eyes widened expressively at the sight of the mansion before her. I didn't blame her, not only was it twice the size of the Nightfall Pack fortress, but it was also far more luxurious than her average house. I smiled mildly at her expression before leading her into the main building. Upon arrival, the guards and servants were already situated at their designated posts and were making efforts to make everything about today perfect.I wasn't cruel or anything, one might think differently because of the stiff atmosphere. I just liked to make sure that my dominance was established. Unlike ordinary werewolves who had a grading system that allowed the masses to judge their strengths, Lycans didn't care about that. There was nothing like Alpha, omega, beta, or whatever. The Lycan king was the pinnacle of authority, and everybody else was equal. If I didn't exert my dominance and show off my strength as the prime being, one crazed individual might try to challenge me
JoyeThe golden rays of the sun found their way into my room, and as though recognizing that this was a new chapter of my life, it smiled warmly upon my face. As I rose from my bed, and as I took a conscious breath, I realized that something was different. The air was different. It was lighter and with every breeze, a faint smell of jasmine, encompassed by a stronger scent which I identified to be rose filled the air.It was as though I was seated in a sea of flowers. My spirit felt calm as the delicious smell wafted through my nostrils. Without much convincing, I could tell that today was a good day, the beginning of a new chapter in my life. As I got down from my bed, a knock came to the door. I was almost certain it was Kaelan, but that wasn't the case. Two maids had immediately walked in as though they have been watching me all night, and waiting for me to finally wake."Good morning, my lady." The both of them greeted with a slight bow. I was frozen in shock, surely they weren'
KaelanThe meeting with the Elders had gone almost exactly as I had predicted. It had been about my mate. They had requested an audience with her at that moment, but I declined their request. Joye had just arrived and she needed to rest herself. I wasn't ready to introduce her to the problems of the elders just yet. I had no idea how the Elders got to know about Joye, but I wasn't worried about it just yet. They said they needed to be familiar with their potential queen, but I could tell they had ulterior motives behind their decisions. Whatever they were planning to do, it won't work. And that was why I needed us to get married as soon as possible. Being mates wasn't going to be enough to thwart the plans of the Elders, but marriage might just be enough. With Joye as my wife, I will be able to decline any interaction or schemes they might want to throw at us. Because now she was no longer just my mate, but now part of the family too.I had wanted to bring up the wedding conversatio
JoyeI didn't sleep immediately after Kaelan left, I stayed awake battling with my thoughts, trying to make sense of everything that was going on, and how fast it was happening. Mating ceremonies, weddings, sharing rooms. It was becoming a little bit too much for me to assimilate all at once. I mean, I had just met Kaelan a few days ago. Not to mention that I wasn't fully attached to him as a mate. I did feel a pull towards him, but it was a far cry compared to what I felt for Ethan. Slowly, Kaelan was winning me over, but I couldn't neglect the feeling of my wolf. She was adamant and still insisted that Ethan was her mate and not Kaelan. My inner mind had not been at rest since we were claimed by Kaelan. "But you feel a mate bond with him right?" I asked my wolf just to be absolute with everything. "Yes, a weak one," Rainbow replied curtly. I could sense her suppressed disappointment and anger, and I couldn't blame her. Our life took a swift turn, and we were currently caught in it
JoyeAlthough Kaelan had left the garden momentarily, I still felt as though the storm was yet to calm. It felt as though my touch was the only thing that could calm him down, and now that I wasn't holding him, his rage was growing once more. I was right, like an enraged warrior, Kaelan came storming back into the garden. His fists were clenched in fury, and in a matter of seconds, he has descended on the defenseless knight and was once again pounding him to a pulp. Unlike the first time, Marcel didn't make any attempts to save himself. He probably couldn't even if he wanted to. Looking at him it felt as though he had lost hope in life, and was just waiting for Kaelan's last blow to send him away to the afterlife. This time around I couldn't move, the adrenaline rush earlier had sapped away all my strength and my legs had become heavy. If Kaelan wasn't stopped, I might end up hating myself forever. Just as I was about to force my body beyond its limits, a fourth figure joined in o
KaelanI knew a day was far too short for her to make up her mind, but still, I felt disappointed with her body language. It was clear her mind wasn't yet made up, and she clearly wasn't ready to be wedded to me. I felt sad, a bit angry maybe, but not at her. I was angry at myself for not meeting her sooner, but alas the moon goddess knows best. "It's not like I don't want to get married to you, it's just... it's just... I still need a little more t—""It's completely fine," I interjected softly. "You don't have to explain yourself to me, you're free to make your own decisions." I reminded. My cold eyes bore a little heat in them, and that helped to reflect the warmth I felt inside; the burning desire that she never seem to dwindle even in her absence. I was becoming a changed man, and it was all thanks to her. As my eyes met hers, I saw relief in her beady blue eyes. Her once-scared persona was fading, and she was adjusting swiftly to me. Although I loved the sight in her eyes, I
JoyeI woke to the beautiful light of a Monday morning, two days after Kaelan had told me about the ball. Although the official date had not been announced yet, everybody around was already getting hyped up for the special day. Preparations were being made in the most extravagant ways possible, and it had me questioning fate and reality once again. My hand swung towards the noisy alarm, and I quickly turned it off before sitting up on my bed. Minutes later, a knock came on the door and I authorized entry into the room. I already knew who it was, as it was the obvious daily routine."Mary..." I drawled out lazily."Good morning your highn—" She paused after her eyes fell on the expression on my face. Then rapidly, she corrected herself. "Good morning Joye." She greeted me with a light bow. I had permitted her to address me as Joye, and not with any formal titles, but Mary would never learn. "How are you doing today, Mary?" I asked with a wide smile."It was fine, Joye, thank you for
Joye "Do not refer to her as rejected, ever!" Kaelan warned, his dark eyes twinkling with rage.I swallowed the lump in my throat and leaned in closer to Kaelan like a child seeking protection from her mother. I knew without a doubt that these men detested me now. They probably considered me trash and unworthy to be in their midst. That much was evident from their facial expressions and the earlier remark. And now they were being scolded because of an ordinary reject, their hatred towards me now knew no bounds. "For someone who's barely considered an elder, you sure do run your mouth a lot, Homer." Kaelan taunted, his dark gaze focused on the elder whose lips were now sealed in both fear and embarrassment. "From now on you'll address her as Queen, she's my mate and wife-to-be, disrespect of any kind won't be tolerated. Now apologize and accord her the respect she deserves.""Your majesty—""I said apologize!" Kaelan interjected. A heavy pressure descended upon the room and with it c
Joye A month had passed since the events of the red moon, and so far everything has been peaceful. Damages around the Kingdom were being repaired, and the Lycans and my people have reached a mutual agreement to not indulge themselves in war again. As the leader of our respective clans, Kaelan and I had been the ones who reached this agreement, and the others had complied. Both clans suffered casualties, and nobody wanted to feel the pain of losing a loved one ever again.A memorial was held for the soldiers that had fallen in battle, and their families were compensated. Although the destruction this time was mild, we all knew that everybody wouldn't survive. It was a tough problem to deal with, but thankfully we were able to pull through and stop a century old curse from wiping out good people. After the night was over, the elders had all visited me to apologize. I never really cared about them, but I still accepted their apology. We weren't friends, and I certainly wouldn't involve
JoyeIt was just as I had expected, not everyone of the infiltrators had listened to the man from earlier who I had learnt his name to be Luke. Out of the six infiltrators, two had remained adamant and continued to cause chaos in the mansion. As the only person who stood a chance against them, I had to intervene. Once again I had left regaining my strength to protect everyone in the castle, and fighting two people at once was no easy task. The little strength I managed to regain I had lost once more and time was quickly running out. There was barely thirty minutes before everything ended. If I failed to break the curse within these last minutes, then everything and the deaths would be for nothing. My strength wasn't fully restored yet, but I couldn't waste anymore time. Aiden and the others were waiting for me, I couldn't keep them waiting any longer than this. I got down from where I was, and took a deep breath, it was now or never, I couldn't risk failing a second time. "Let me
Kaelan"She failed?" I gasped just before I decapitated another adversary. A man from Aiden's unit had just informed me that Joye's first attempt to break the curse had not been successful, and she was yet to return to try a second time. We had barely thirty minutes until the red moon falls, and if she didn’t manage to break the curse within those thirty minutes, then we were doomed to repeat this experience in the next two years. I was already back in my human form due to exhaustion, and I was losing more strength as I fought off the unending horde of opponents. Although we had managed to keep casualties on our side to the minimum, most of us were already out of energy. This last thirty minutes would be the determining factor of this entire situation."I'm sure she's going to make it." I voiced out to the messenger's hearing. "Tell Aiden and the rest to keep guarding the place, I trust Joye, she won't back away so easily." I ordered while holding off the crowd from approaching the m
Joye I had no idea who sounded the alarm, but I recognized that scream very well. It was Olivia's voice, I had no idea what had happened to her, but I was certain she wasn't doing well. "You need to rest, she's not important. You need to conserve your energy in order to face Azira." Rainbow advised. She had read my thoughts. I wanted to rush out to save Olivia, but Rainbow had reminded me just how much I hated Olivia. Wasting my energy on people like her wasn't worth it.Countless times Olivia had shown just how much she despised me, and I still had no idea why she hates me so much. I wanted to blame it on the fact that I was different from her and the rest, but I knew her hatred went beyond just being different. "She's Kaelan's sister, I have to help her." I said, but Rainbow wasn't on board with that decision."Save her then what? Waste your recovered energy on another fight? If you leave this room you're going to run into an enemy. And once you run into one, you'll be forced to
JoyeI sat on the podium that tormented my every nightmare, the same podium where Azira had been burnt. I could feel her energy all around me, but I chose to focus on completing my task rather than focusing on a dead woman. She had caused pain for these people, and needed to be stopped at all cost. The red moon had already risen, all I needed to do was end the curse on time and help the Lycans regain their strength. This was a do or die situation, failure was not an option.I savored the flow of power in me. The pure energy that flowed from the air and nature around me. This was purification, the air around me was being purified and soon the kingdom will be as well. This curse has harmed a lot of innocent families and stolen happiness away from them. I was going to restore the peace these people once had and stop this curse once and for all. I was almost at the climax of power when suddenly the flow stopped, my body suddenly began feeling unwell and for some reason. I felt pow
KaelanEvery passing second felt like a torturous hour to me. Only twenty four more hours were left until the red moon fully rose in the sky. In a few hours my people would be torn apart by the demons that hunt us every two years. Joye was our only hope, if she failed to break the curse tomorrow night, then we were all doomed. A handful of the enemies had already made it past the borders, and although we had managed to capture a lot of them, there were still some that were in the kingdom waiting for the right time to strike. It didn't matter how much we fortified our borders, the enemies always found their way in. It was something that was beyond our control, but that didn't mean that we would just leave the gates open for them to jump inside all willy nilly. The fear in my heart was persistent, but I chose to have faith and trust in Joye. Even though everybody doubted her, my trust in her remained unwavering. She had trained from morning till night, the least I could do to acknowle
KaelanThe day was calm, and although everybody seemed calm and happy, I could tell they were all horrified as the seconds passed. The red moon was approaching fast, and everybody was on high alert for the few intruders that had been spotted randomly around the kingdom. Although we had managed to get our hands on some of the intruders, they committed suicide immediately to keep themselves from leaking any information. James had tried using magic to extract information from them, but that too had not worked. These men were prepared more than ever, and I feared that things might actually be worse this time around. Speaking of James, I had been trying to get close to him and build some level of trust between us, but the man gave me no chances. He was Joye's father, and as her husband I wanted to know more about my wife's father and their people. However, James had the complete opposite in mind.He really wanted nothing to do with me and he made that abundantly clear every single time I
JoyeAlthough Kaelan seemed a bit hurt by my words,he didn't exactly take it to heart. He knew that what I was saying was the truth. His people did kill my people because of one person, and he knew that it was wrong in all sense. "You have to come with me, Joye. They're going to come for you if you keep staying here." The stranger maintained. He had not given up on taking me out of this place, and the both of us had been so engrossed in the argument that I had forgotten to ask for his name. I only realized that I didn't know his name after he had called mine out without thinking about it. "I don't even know your name. What should I call you?" I asked because it definitely wouldn't be father. Even if he was my father, he was going to do a lot more than this before I can acknowledge him. He might be trying to save my life now, but I could have died a thousand times before in Nightfall Pack where he left my mother and I to suffer. "It's James." He answered curtly. "James..." I drawl
Joye I woke up with a slight headache, it was already past noon, and Kaelan wasn't in the bed anymore. I remembered passing out near him after countless hours of healing him. Somehow I couldn't help but feel that everything was my fault. If I had listened to what he said, and hadn't let my pride and anger get in the way, perhaps I might have saved him before things got critical. I got down from the bed, my head still spinning and the energy in my body at its minimum. I had overexerted myself to the point of losing consciousness, I didn't particularly expect to wake up full of energy. I managed to saunter into the bathroom to run cold water over my throbbing head. I felt a bit relieved and happy at the same time. The fact that Kaelan wasn't on that bed meant that he had regained consciousness and had left to carry out his duties. I wasn't mad that he wasn't by my side when I woke, I was far too focused on the fact that he was okay now to get angry. I called for Mary and demanded fo
