We lie there for a few minutes, just enjoying each other's presence. Edward takes advantage of the moment to ask the question I was already expecting him to ask. I even considered that he took a bit longer before bringing up the subject.
"I understand that you're going to end things with that..." He was about to swear but gave up at the last second. "...with Smith."
"Yes, I need to do that as soon as possible," I confirmed, albeit somewhat reluctantly. "But I can't do it while we're here, Edward. I just need some time."
"Of course, you can end a relationship," Edward insisted, his voice firm. "I don't agree with waiting until marriage to end this ridiculous story between you two. He can very well leave; no one will miss him."
