VORENUS TOOK HIS time outside the border of the pack, he allowed himself to be pushed aside as the fledglings bustled past him. He shook his head sadly at the dumb fucks. They thought that Vladimir loved them. They had no idea that he was only just using them for his own gain.

He heard the loud warning howl coming from the pack. They were only just realizing that they were under attack. What sort of pack was this? Vorenus wondered as he crossed the border. No patrol guards circling the border, if there had been, surely they would have seen the multitude of vampires gathering at their borders and alerted their alpha and organized their warriors.

What sort of pack was this? Vorenus asked himself again. The killings had begun. He could hear the whining and angry growls of wolves as they tried to put up a fight against the horde of agitated vampires. The werewolves never stood a chance. Vorenus walked into the main pack, where most of the fighting was taking place. Some houses were on f

MITCH CHESTERMITCH SPENT THE rest of the day sour and angry as he sulked while waiting for Lorna and Enrique to come back from their travels with more information. He paced the whole palace multiple times to ease his anxiety, even Draco knew better than to disturb or try to interact with him. He stood at the window on the highest tower and watched the sunset, going lower than the mountain peak and drowning the kingdom in darkness and there was still no word or information from Lorna or his brutish uncle. “Mitch?” Anna pushed the door tentatively and walked in. “Mitch… what are you doing up here?” she asked, coming closer to stand behind him. His mind was so far away that he did not hear her come in, or even know that she was with him until she hugged his waist from behind. He was startled and turned, “Anna… What are you doing up here?” He inadvertently asked the same question she had asked him. “I asked you the same thing,” she said. “What are you doing here? You didn’t even joi

MITCH CHESTER HE HAD A small smile on his face as he went down the stairs and headed for his office where Draco was with Lorna and Enrique. Finally, he was going to get some – “Mitch Chester, you slimy - you left me with the children at a very critical time!” Anna’s voice boomed into his head.“duty called, darling,” Mitch answered sweetly’“duty called!” she scoffed. He could only just imagine her face getting red with anger. “you, sir, will be sleeping in the guest room until further notice!”“oh, baby…”“do not ‘baby’ me, Mitchell!” she snarled. “I hope your duty keeps you warm at night!” she said before breaking off the mind link.“Anna… Anna…” Mitch tried to contact her back, but it didn’t go through. “nice job,” his beast muttered. “she blocked us.” Mitch mentally rubbed his temples as he pushed open the door and entered his office.Lorna was seated on a couch, legs crossed and her arms resting on her knees elegantly. ANNA KYLIN CHESTERI STARED AT the children. All their wide eyes were focused on me now that my all-so-loving mate had left at such a critical time. "Is it true, mum?" Aiden asked again. His eyes flickered suspiciously to my stomach. "Paige told us her mum told her."I sighed and looked at the frail girl. She bowed her here fearfully, awaiting reprimanding. I sat down on the floor, managing to cross my legs with some difficulty. My bones were getting stiff. "We are not as young as we thought," My wolf whispered into my head.I grunted as I made myself slightly comfortable. Addison folded herself down very easily by my side. "Would you want a younger brother - or sister?" I asked Aiden. He looked away and shrugged. "I don't know what it will feel like. I dunno.""I want one," Addison chirped, leaning into my leg and stretching my inner thighs. "I want a sister." She said.I sighed and rubbed her hair. "I don't know yet," I told them. "I did not want to mention it until I was very sure

ANNA KYLIN CHESTER I WAS SHOCKED but not entirely surprised that Lorna immediately knew of my pregnancy. After all, she had told me of Aiden when nobody else knew 7 Years ago.But I still had to ask, "How.... did you know?"She chuckled and waved it aside. "Please," She said. "Any witch would. The baby has a very strong spirit. It is barely even developed, and yet, I can feel its aura coming off you in waves."A baby with a strong spirit. Was that a good thing for me? I wondered, remembering my last pregnancy. Giving birth to Aiden and Addison had almost cost me my life because they were too strong.Lorna must have sensed my trepidation because she said, "7 years ago when you came here, pregnant, you were a lone wolf, cut from every tie to your pack, carrying two pups of alpha blood. Of course, it would be hard." Her thumbs rubbed the back of my palms comfortingly. "But now, you are a Luna. A strong one... and even though this baby is... " she paused for a second. "... unusual. MITCH CHESTERMITCH AND DRACO were bent over, each looking at their respective screens intently. Dracoe yawned and leaned back, rubbing his eyes. “We have been searching for hours. No, scratch that. We have been searching for two days now... What if the vampire doesn’t want to be found?”“A little more optimism would be welcome here, Draco,” Mitch muttered.Draco sighed and stood up. He went to the minibar to retrieve a drink, but cursed under his breath when he opened the door. “We are out of drinks.” He called, turning around and seeing the piles of empty alcohol bottles at Mitch's feet. “You are going to destroy your liver.”Mitch chuckled.Draco went back to his seat and resumed his work. They had been trying to find Vorenus for two days since Lorna arrived. Draco was looking through all the street cameras and trying to match them with a picture of Vorenus if any result would come back; so far, there was no luck. Mitch was looking through police reports of missing persons, trying

HE GLANCED BACK once to make sure that Aiden was secure as he reached the borders. He looked around carefully, but there was no one there. No Vorenus, not even a sign that the vampire had been there. His mind, waking him up must have just been a result of paranoia. He suddenly caught a whiff of a strange scent in the air. He froze and started to investigate it when Draco's urgent voice blasted in his head, “Come to your office as soon as possible!”Mitch frowned and walked away from the scene. He masked the disappointment at not seeing Vorenus from his face as he retrieved Aiden from his hiding spot.“What was it, Dad?” Aiden asked.Without stopping, Mitch turned and looked at the far distance. “It's nothing, son.”“come on, hurry up. You are going to be late for school,” Mitch urged.“I can't be late for school,” Aiden gloated. “I am going to be the alpha.”“it doesn’t work that way,” Mitch chuckled.“When I am alpha, there will be nothing like lateness for school anymore.” Aiden gri

ANNA KYLIN CHESTER I WOKE UP a few hours after Mitch left. His scent still hung in the air of the room and I could still feel the shape of his lips on my forehead. I got out of bed with some difficulty. My joints ached and my head pounded. Were all these because of the pregnancy? I wondered as I made my way to the bathroom, praying to the moon goddess that Mitch had not used up all the hot water.I turned on the shower and checked the temperature with the back of my palm even though I didn't have to. Steam billowed to the ceiling as soon as the water seeped through. As I made my bath, my mind drifted away again. I was going to do more detailed research on Lycan pregnancy. I needed to know how long I was going to be pregnant and how early the signs were going to start to show.I sank into the bathtub, sighing in relief as the sleep and tiredness were burnt out of my bones and aches.Mitch said something had come up, and he was going to be very busy today. What could that be? Had the

MITCH CHESTERMITCH SWERVED INTO the parking lot and looked at the dilapidated building. It was a low, long old bar. Drumming his fingers on the steering wheel, he thought of how dangerous this was. And he had left without telling anyone anything. He reached for his phone, wanting to call Draco, but he shook his head.Draco would put on a lot of fuss and spoil everything if he showed up here.Besides, this shouldn't take long, Mitch thought to himself. He would be back before anyone knew he was gone. He got out of the car and headed to the door with purposeful strides. He pushed it and went in, looking around and taking in the sorry state of the bar. The bar was almost empty, except for some leftover drunks from the previous night slumped over their stools and the floor. There was a fat squat man behind the bar, looking bored. Mitch made his way to the counter and sat down carefully on a stool. It was wobbly under his weight."How m' I help you?" The man slurred. He sounded almost

She might be out of the kingdom now.“ Mitch growled. “Just tell them to search.“ “We should probably get back,“ Draco said, turning to look around. Mitch nodded. He looked at Vorenus. Draco could see the hesitation in Mitch's body language. He knew what mitch was about to do. He dipped his hand into his pocket and tossed a small object at Vorenus who caught it easily, confused at what it was. Suddenly there was a sizzling sound and vorenus dropped the object quickly. The smell of burnt flesh filled the air and Drcao nodded in satisfaction. “What was that?“ Vorenus growled. “Silver, “Draco said. “Silver bullets. He pressed down on the pedal, and the car shot even faster. “This fucking snow,“ he growled as he screeched to a stop. The tires of the car were stuck in the thick layer of snow. He got out of the car; his legs sank almost to his knees.Draco came out too, cursing under his breath. “I wonder whose idea it was to get electric cars to drive over snow,“ he looked at Mitch and added sarcastically. “Oh wait, it was your brilliant idea.“Mitch rubbed his chin and said, “Maybe I should have gone with your idea and bought electric sleds instead.“Draco scoffed, kicking at the snow.Mitch looked around. MITCH CHESTERMITCH KNEW HIS mind should be at rest now that he had reinforcements, but his mind was still worried. He had no doubts that it was because his mate was still out there in danger, his son was lying in bed, unconscious and blind, and his kingdom was on the brink of civil war.He paced the length of the room anxiously, his eyes drifting into the dancing fireplace as he walked past. A small knock came at the door. “Come in,“ he called. The door opened, and Draco came in. He took a look around the small, almost empty room and shook his head, saying, “You are still sleeping here.“Mitch chuffed and nodded, “I can't stay in the master chambers alone. Anna should be with me.“Draco nodded and said, “I understand that, but…“ He looked around again. “I am sure you can do better than a tiny room. There is even no air conditon -““No one uses air conditioning here, Draco,“ Mitch said. He sat on the bed heavily; it creaked under his weight.“There is no ventilation,“ Draco continued,

ANNA KYLIN CHESTERTHE DINNER PROGRESSED silently between me and Janet after Vladimir left. I was not inclined to say anything to her, so I ignored all the stares she sent my way. I was focused on the meal, because I do not know the next time I would eat again. It might not be until the ritual, and if I had any hopes of escaping, then I need all the energy I can get. When I had eaten to my fill, I sat back, watching Janet's thin hands pick at her food tastelessly.“You are vegan,“ I said, noting that there was no meat nor fish on her plate. She scoffed, “Unlike you savages, I care about the lives of animals.“ She stuffed a strip of carrot into her mouth. “I heard that you dogs even eat raw meat. That is just disgusting.““And yet you sleep with a man - a creature that drinks raw blood… you don’t think that is disgusting?“ I retorted, knowing that she was right about us eating raw meat. Sometimes when in our wolf skin, he could go hunting and eat whatever we catch, which could range fr

ANNA KYLIN CHESTERHOLDING ON TO Vorenus softly as he led me out, We walked up a flight of stairs and down a hallway till we stopped in front of a thick, mahogany wood. I took a deep breath as Vorenus pushed the door open and stood aside to let me through. Taking careful steps, I walked into the room. It was like a large hall, lit up beautifully with gold chandeliers. There was a small round table in the middle of the room, and Vorenus was seated at the head of the table. He looked at me as I walked in; his eyes widened slightly, but that was the only reaction he gave. His human mistress sat beside me; the look she gave was a nasty, dirty stare, but she kept her mouth shut. Vladimir's eyes followed me all the way to the table. I nodded at him curtly and took a seat. The table was filled with many delicacies, and even a full roast pig sat in the center.“Thank you for coming,“ Vladimir said.It was not like I had any option; I scoffed under my breath. I turned and looked behind me, exp

ANNA KYLIN CHESTERI DO NOT know how long I remained in the cage — listening to the dripping of water in the far dark distance. But I knew when the sun went down, because the mansion became more active, and the sound of night bugs joined in the sound of water droplets.I felt like I was going to run mad, but the door opened and the butler came in. He was human, I was sure of it, but still, there was something off about him. But I could not place my hand on it. He stood a few feet away from my cell and looked at me in a spiteful manner. “My name is Bartholomew the Fourteenth,“ he said. The fourteenth? I asked myself. Does that mean that fourteen generations of this man's family had lived with and worked for Vladimir?“What you are thinking is exactly correct,“ the butler said. “And no, I cannot read minds, but I could clearly see the confusion written on your face.”“What do you want?“ I asked. If he was going to be anything like the other human in the mansion - Janet, I wanted to prep

320LORNA DID NOT know her next move, or why she washed the mind of this vampire, but she knew she had to do something, and this seemed like the first step.“Rise,“ she commanded. The vampire stood up robotically and looked at her with his soulless eyes.“What are you doing here?“ she asked him.“Keeping watch on the borders of this kingdom,“ he replied.“Why?““I was just following orders,“ he said.“Whose orders?“ Lorna asked, even though she already knew the answer, but she wanted to be sure.“The king,“ the vampire replied.Lorna scoffed under her breath. Vladimir. She turned and looked at the way she had come from, considering her options. Should she take this vampire back to the kingdom where he could be interviewed by Mitch for information, or should she take the more riskier option and tell the vampire to take her to where Anna was being kept prisoner? She looked back and forth a couple of times, then she made her decision. She was not going back to the kingdom. She and they w

LORNA LOOKED OUT the window and watched as Mitch addressed the guest from the Red Moon pack; she saw the way they looked at him with awe and adoration. They were here out of respect for him and love for Anna. She turned away from the window and went to the bed where Aiden was sleeping, brushing her hand across his forehead. He mumbled something inaudible and shuffled slightly, but he did not wake up. She sighed sadly, wondering what the medical personnel were going to make of this. Aiden was not entirely in a coma. He responded to touch, and she had seen his flicker in his eyelids when Mitch had whispered something in his ear a few hours ago. It was just like he was in a deep slumber without being able to wake up. She imagined it to be like he was trapped in his own body.“If only your mother were here,“ she muttered in a small voice. “She would know what to do to bring you back.“ Lorna spoke gently to herself. She sighed and leaned in to kiss Aiden's forehead. She felt very connected

I hope we will be able to put aside your differences and work together.“The hall was silent for the next few seconds, so Mitch continued, “And they brought some weapons to give us an added advantage,“ he said.“We will be fighting with weapons now?“ Sil asked, astonished, “Like the humans?“Mitch cocked his head and nodded. “I'm afraid so,“ he said. “We need
