Devin pov.
To say that I am angry would be an understatement. I was pissed off to no end. The school principal called me to inform me that David had run off. When I arrived at the school, I was shown a video of David beating three kids down to a pulp. What I knew was, David is not the kind of boy who would attack without a reason. When I questioned about it, they didn’t have an answer. All they knew was Michael, Taylor and Nolan were beaten up.
I snarled at the three who were seated in front of me in the principal’s office. All of them cowered in front of me. After all, I was their alpha.
“Tell me what really happened.” I sneered. “You better tell me or else I will make you tell me what happened.” I growled at them.
By now, they were trembling in fear. No one would want to be punished by their alpha. I glared at Michael, who seemed to be their leader. His brown hair was now matted to his forehead with sweat. He kept on fiddling with his fingers nervously.
“Michael.” I boomed. He suddenly dropped to his knees.
“Alpha. I am sorry. I..... I.....” He stammered.
I narrowed my eyes on him. “I am sure you did something. David did tell me about being bullied. He just didn’t tell me who did it.”
The principal stared at us with his mouth agape. “I.... I was.... I am sorry alpha. Please forgive us.” He started to beg. The principal sat in his seat, with his mouth wide open. I can’t believe that he didn’t know about these three bullies.
“You bullied him.” I stated, narrowing my eyes and he lowered his head in shame. Nolan and Taylor were trying their best to avoid my eyes.
“All three of you! Submit!” I ordered.
Soon all of them were down on their knees trembling and shaking in fear.
“I am ashamed of you. He is your future alpha. How dare you bully him. Forgiving is up to him. Not to me. You better pull yourselves together.” I said and pointed a finger at the school head.
“Mr. Black. I really think that you should look into children’s behaviour better than this.” I said and walked briskly out of the office. I jogged out of the school and my eyes zeroed at the woods.
“Hey Damon, you think we can find David?” I asked my wolf. He huffed and nodded. I ran towards the woods, shifting as I ran to my black wolf. Damon sniffed the air and followed David’s scent. It led us deep into the forest. My heart broke a little as Damon took us further into the thick wilderness. How hurt must my David be to run off like that. Damon ran until we reached the river and sniffed the air again. He took cautious steps towards the bushes. Just then, a wolf jumped right at us. He pinned us down and growled into my face before softening a little.
“Dad?” he spoke in a gruff voice and stood up. I was shocked.
“Damon, is this..... shift back.” I said and soon I was in my human form. I quickly wore the pair of shorts I had tied to my leg and faced my son. “David?” I asked in utter amazement. He was a wolf alright. But a wolf that is unlike any of us. He looked bigger and stronger than any of us. He was even bigger than my wolf, which is the biggest and strongest in our pack.
“Dad.” He answered. My eyes widened in surprise.
“You can talk!” I gasped. “Can you shift back?” I asked. “Concentrate on your human form.” I told him. He closed his glowing red eyes and it took a while for him to morph back to his human form. What surprised me more was that he was still clothed. While every wolf including me had to carry shorts around to cover ourselves. David sure was a special one.
“Dad. I got my wolf. But why am I so different?” he asked. I smiled.
“Different is good. Especially if it is better. Your wolf definitely is stronger, and wiser. It can even talk. We haven’t even trained yet but still you are stronger than me. I am very proud of you David.” I told him. He chuckled.
“Now, don’t you dare say that you cannot be alpha. You must become alpha when it is time.” I said. He smiled and nodded.
“Let’s go home?” He suggested. I nodded. He needed a break. We strolled through the woods as I remembered something Marsha had told me on the day he was born.
“You know David, your mother had told me that she had a dream that day, during your birth. You will be the strongest wolf of your time.” I told him, making him look at me in complete shock.
“Wow.” He whispered. “But remember David. You must use your power for good. No power comes without responsibility.” He nodded and we made our way back home.
My mind was completely occupied with different thoughts. It was said that Marsha’s ancestors were powerful. They consisted of the great lycans. But it has been thousands of years since the last lycan emerged. People now narrate stories about lycans as folk stories. We all thought it was a myth. I looked at my son. Was he a lycan? I couldn’t deny what I had just seen with my own eyes. Whatever it was, he was my son and I will love him till my last breath.
As soon as we arrived at the pack house I hastened to the library to finally read a book that I had been ignoring ever since Marsha moved in with me. It was a book about lycans. Her parents had given it to her as a gift. She cherished it since it was a gift from her parents though we never really read what was in it. After she died, I had placed it carefully in the library, so that anyone who wanted to read it could. After all, folklore stories are interesting. But now, I no longer think it was a myth. Perhaps all that it contained was true.
I walked in and took the old book which was now dusty. I brushed the dust away before carrying it to the table. I opened the crisp pages with care, which were now old and yellow. It sure seemed like an old book. The first page contained an old drawing of a wolf-like creature that looked exactly like David’s wolf. So I was right. David is a lycan.
As I read the book, I learnt that the lycans were the strongest living mythical creatures. They were stronger than the vampires, immune to silver and wolfsbane, and they were smarter and stronger than a regular wolf. They sounded like a magical creature which only was too good to be true.
“Wow!” I said to myself. No wonder everyone thought that they were a myth. They were just unbelievably strong. They practically had no weakness. My thoughts travelled back to my boy. There was no doubt that he was definitely stronger than me, a trained alpha when he pinned me down. I wonder how tactful and how strong he actually could be after being trained. I hurried back to his room where he was resting.
“Dad! I was hoping to see you soon. Look! My nose is completely healed now!” he told me excitedly. I nodded and smiled at him. Since his wolf had woken up, his senses and healing would have accelerated. “So have you spoken to your wolf yet?” I asked and he nodded.
“His name is Finn and he said something about being lycans,” he told me. I nodded. “I thought it was a myth.” He exclaimed.
“Actually, we all thought it was a myth. We thought it was just folklore. But I guess we were wrong. I’ve checked a book that belonged to your mother. It was said that she is a descendant of the lycans. But we all thought that those were just made up stories. But it seems that it was not.” I told him. And he listened to me with wide open eyes, dumbfounded by all the new information.
“Where is this book?” He asked.
“In the library. You should read it.” I told him. “Maybe I can remove it from the library. After all it was your mother’s. And you have every right over it.” I said. I noticed how his baby blue eyes glossed with tears. He never really owned what belonged to his dead mother. “I would love that.” He whispered. I felt my own eyes sting as tears gathered in them. Anything related to my beloved mate made me emotional.
“I will bring it for you. And tonight we can go through it together.” I said. He sighed. “I’ll be waiting for that.” He said.
I left him to do some of his school work so that I also can attend to my duties. Should I keep his lycan as a secret? Or should I expose him to everyone? That, we will decide tonight.

This day couldn’t get any longer. I tried to focus on my work but it was hard with all the thoughts. Finally, I managed to finish the day’s work right before dinner. My beta agreed to take care of the little things so I rushed towards the library and took it with me. The librarian didn’t question as it was just me. I hurried to his room.
He opened the door after a few knocks. “Dad. You finished early.” He said, clearly pleased about it. I nodded. “Yes. And here is the book I told you about. “ I said, handing him the book. He took it and kept it carefully on the study table in his room. He handled it with so much care, as if that was the most precious thing that he ever had.
“Let’s have dinner together and then we can look through it.” I told him. He agreed and we went downstairs. The elders were already in the dining room. I looked at David who shrugged. But his jaw clenched a little. The elder’s presence always made him uneasy.
“Here comes the curse.” Elder Arnold muttered under his breath, but with our enhanced senses we could clearly hear it. I rolled my eyes and muttered, just like he did. “looser”
He narrowed his eyes on me. “What did you say alpha Devin?” he asked. I smirked.
“Oh did I say anything? I don’t know.” I replied with a raised eyebrow at him. I sat on my chair and gestured to David to sit beside me. David was trying hard not to laugh. It was such a breath of fresh air to see his mood uplifted for a change. We had dinner and went upstairs to read the book.
We found out that lycans shift later than normal werewolves. Most of the time the first shift is triggered by something important. I looked at him. It was about time I asked him about the bullying in school.
“You know David. I was called into school today. And I’ve found out that you beat up three kids. Care to tell what had happened?” I asked. His eyebrows knitted together.
“They always call me names and put me down. But when they called my mom a loser something in me just snapped.” He told me. I say his jaw muscles clench together. He was clearly frustrated.
“What did they say?” I asked, my own blood boiling in anger. How dare they call my mate a loser? I will make those three pups see what a real loser is.
David looked at me and studied my face.
“You are going to beat them up.” He stated. I laughed a little. I should have known he would figure that out. He was one smart cookie. He shook his head.
“Dad, I’ve already beaten them up. I will beat them again if I have to. But I don’t think it is necessary to beat them twice for one offence.” He said.
I smirked. “I think I want to let them spar with you. Let’s see who a real loser is.” I said and his eyes widened.
“But dad! I just got my wolf. I am not trained....” he started to panic. I simply placed my hand over his.
“I know you can buddy. You are stronger than my wolf, and I am a fully trained alpha. Trust me. You are going to kick their ass.” I sensed that he relaxed a bit.
“We will start training this weekend. And after you all graduate, training will be everyday. Since you are the next alpha in line, your training sessions will be harder and longer.” I expected him to protest or groan in frustration, like most teenagers do. However, his eyes lit up in excitement and a wide grin spread across his face. I smiled. He was going to be a great alpha. I just know it.
David pov. Ever since that day, kids at school seemed to leave me alone. Some of them whispered and muttered secrets under their breaths. I just let them be. I don’t care what they think or say about me. I have decided that I will get on with my life. If being a lycan is a trait inherited from my mother, I am proud of it. I entered the classroom and all my classmates stared at me. They started to lean towards each other and whisper. I rolled my eyes. “Red eyes...... Scary...... Weird” I heard fragments of their secrets. I opened my book and tried to keep myself busy as soon as I sat down at my desk. Just then I felt a rude shove on my back. I knew who it was at once. Ever since my lycan had surfaced, my sense of smell and hearing had gotten better and now I have learnt to distinguish between those who are around me most of the time, including the hose who bullied me. “Look you pimp. Just because you managed to beat us one day doesn’t
David pov. The warriors lined up including Cade and school bullies. They were good warriors anyway. Even though they didn’t like me, they were loyal to the pack. My father didn’t like them, but he had given them a chance on my request because, well, I believed that they wouldn’t betray us.We marched towards the border. I was anxious about my first war. Me being a lycan, it was not much of a problem to me. I was stronger then the vampires. But I was worried about my father. He was a ferocious warrior and a well trained alpha. But still, he was my rock. I had gotten so far because of him. And I feared for his life. I wanted him to be safe. I didn’t want to put him at risk. But there was no way that he would back off from a war which had put his pack in danger. So the best I could do was keep an eye on him as we fought. After marching for some time, we shifted in to our wolves and raced towards the borders. We had to arriv
David pov. I returned to the pack house and entered the alpha’s office. To my surprise, elder Arnold and elder Barron were already there. “What are you doing here?” I questioned, furrowing my eyebrows at them. They didn’t have the right to enter the office despite being elders. Elder Barron cleared his throat. “We have decided to take over the pack. Since you are only seventeen and we don’t think you are capable of being a good alpha, it is best that we do it, at least until you turn out eighteen.” He said casually. “What!” I exclaimed. It was unacceptable. “You cannot do that!” I said. Elder Arnold narrowed his eyes on me. “And what makes you think that we can’t?” he asked coldly. “You just can’t. My dad had fully trained me for this. I am more than ready to be in charge.” I protested. He laughed at me as if he was mocking me. “Oh yes. We can and that is exactly what we are doing.” He hissed. “That is e
David pov Elder Barron’s eyes were wide and red with anger. I could see that he was shaking and trembling with rage. He pointed his index finger at me accusingly. “You are a freak, a curse and a bad omen. You have always been a disgrace to this pack and your family. I reject you as the alpha of this pack.” He screamed at the top of his voice. Hailey snickered and stood up. “I, Hailey Spencer, reject David Barton as my mate.” She said and smiled at Cade, who quickly put his arm around her waist. “I refuse to accept a curse and a freak as a mate. You look hideous David. I don’t want you.” She said and placed her hand on Cade’s chest, who smirked at me. There was an excruciating pain in my heart as she said those painful words. Finn was continuously howling in my mind. He w
Narrator Meanwhile back in the pack. The elders rejoiced that they had finally managed to throw David out of their pack. They had always wanted to get rid of him. Especially after his lycan emerged. Not because they didn’t know how special lycans were. But because if he is the alpha, they would no longer be able to continue their corrupt ways. He would eventually find out about their ill deeds and finally he would throw them out. Elder Barron rose his drink high up in the air. “Cheers! For our success!” he exclaimed and laughed heartily. The rest of the elders cheered as they raised their drinks. They were sitting around the wooden table in the elder’s room to particularly celebrate the ‘exile of the curse’ as they put it. “It would have been even better if we could actually lock him up and torture him.” Elder Arnold
Narrator. David roamed around the woods. He had to learn to survive in the wilderness. It was a good thing that he had his lycan with him. Hunting and looking for food was not the main problem. It was hiding from any lurking dangers. He was in the vampire’s territory, and that means he could be in danger. He must hide from them carefully. He ate what he hunted, drank and washed himself from a creek he found. But where does he sleep when night falls? His eyes darted from the rich forest floor to the canopied branches. “I guess it is best that I sleep in a tree.” He muttered. Finn also agreed. He would be safer high up on a branch than on the ground. He walked around to find a suitable tree. “The sun is about to set dude, hurry.” Finn huffed in his mind. “ I’m trying.” David replied. Finn rolled his eyes. “This is the forest. And these are just trees. None of them will be like those
David pov I double checked if I had masked my scent properly. Right now, I was face to face with one of them. The young girl flipped her dark brown hair which was a sharp contrast to her pale skin. I looked straight into her eyes as she gave me a friendly smile. “Hello. My name is Caroline. But you can call me carol.” She introduced herself. “I would go to shake your hand but I can’t. You are standing in the sun.” She stated. “Huh?” I was confused. This vampire girl definitely was friendly. She didn’t seem like a threat. But I shouldn’t just trust her too soon right? I mean she could just pretend to be nice and suddenly attack. I tried to read her face. Her face only showed signs of innocence. “What is a human doing in t
Narrator David couldn’t wait for evening to arrive. He had never felt so eager to meet someone before. He sat on the shore as he counted the ripples of water caressing the shore. He took a pebble and threw it into the water, making more ripples in the calm water of the creek. He smiled at it. The water was calm but it held many secrets. It definitely led to a larger water body where more dangers and treasures were hidden, just like his life. He may look calm but he had to prepare for something big. He was going to fight back. At least he had to find out who was the real one behind his grandma’s death. And whoever that was, will have to pay for what he had done. “David.” Carol’s voice came from behind. David stood up from his spot and faced the young vampire princess. He smiled as he walked towards her, who was waiting for him in the shade. “Hey.” He greeted her “Hi.” She said and looked around. She frowned as she noticed the cl
