Marsha grunted on the bed. She had found it hard to sleep with her swollen belly. She kept changing sides and grunting in pain. Her unborn pup seemed to be super active tonight. He kept kicking and doing somersaults in her womb.

At last, she sat up on her bed and stared at her swollen belly. She was completely exhausted. The past few months had been tiring for her. Though she had been excused from the Luna duties because of her health, lack of sleep has worn her out.

She felt her pup kick the side of her womb once again. She chuckled.

“Aren’t you going to let mommy get some sleep, little one?” she talked to her unborn pup. The baby kicked in response. She sighed and looked at her sleeping mate and pouted. She too wanted to sleep.

Finally, when she was certain that she wouldn't sleep anytime soon, she stood up and walked to the window in the room. She opened it and let the cool night breeze blow her dark hair. The full moon and beautifully decorated sky made Marsha smile. She had always enjoyed nights like these.

Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain jolt down her waist. But as soon as it came it went. She furrowed her eyebrows and tried to straighten herself when the pain returned. This time, it was worse than before and it lasted longer.

Marsha’s face contorted in pain as she grabbed to the nearest furniture with all her might. The throbbing pain continued to thrust from her waist and down towards her ass.

“Devin!” Marsha gasped. “Devin!” she screamed. She was still on her spot, unable to move on her own. The pain was excruciating and it kept getting worse and worse.

“DEVIN!” Marsha screamed as loud as she could.

“What! What is it?” Devine jumped to his feet at once and got into his defence mode. His mate’s screams had woken him up startled and ready to protect her from any potential danger.

Marsha kept one hand on her belly and looked at her mate with a painful expression on her face.

“Babe.... I think it is time....” she managed to whisper in between her gasps of breath.

Devin’s eyes widened with realisation. He quickly put on a shirt and pants and covered his mate with a cardigan before he carried her out of the room in bridal style. He practically ran towards the infirmary which was just a few metres away from the pack house. Being a well trained alpha, it was not too hard for him to carry his heavily pregnant mate, specially with the adrenaline rush he was feeling.

He quickly placed her on a stretcher as soon as they arrived. Doctors and nurses surrounded them and soon, were taken to the labour room.

Devine waited outside for a while because he would have to inform the council of elders that the Luna was now in labour. It was their tradition. Devine quickly mind linked his beta and the council of elders. Since it was the middle of the night, it took longer than he liked for the message to get through.

He was about to enter the labour room and be with his mate when the doctor came out and wanted to talk to him in private.

“Alpha. There are some complications. We have to go for a caesarean.” The doctor told him, urgently.

Devin felt that his heart skipped a beat.

“Is she and the pup ok?” he asked.

The doctor nodded. “But we must hurry.” He said.

“Do what you must, doctor.” Devin told him.

Soon, Marsha was reeled into the operation theatre. Devin paced anxiously outside the theatre. No one was allowed in it. Marsha’s parents and his beta had arrived by now. After what seemed like forever, the nurse peeked out of the door.

“It is a boy.” She informed them. “Alpha. Please come and see them.” She said and Devin quickly followed her inside. He was taken to a cubicle where his mate was placed on a hospital bed.

“The pup is with the paediatrician right now. We will bring him in a while.” She told him and he nodded.

Devin approached Marsha. Her eyes were closed and her dark hair was matted on her forehead with sweat. He lovingly brushed the hair away. Her eyes swung open, revealing the beautiful baby blue eyes Devin adored.

“Babe.....” Devin trailed off. He took her hand to his lips and kissed it softly. He was overwhelmed with emotions.

Marsha smiled weakly.

“Devin.” She whispered. “Please.... Take care of him.” She said, making Devin frown.

“Yes. We will. We will do it together.” Devin answered. Marsha closed her eyes and ran her tongue over her lips.

Just then, the nurse came in with the pup and placed him on her right hand.

“My David. My little David. Be good, my baby.” She whispered and cooed. Devin looked at the nurse, with a worried look on his face. Marsha sounded as if she was getting weaker and weaker as she spoke.

The nurse quickly ran out of the room to call for a doctor.

“Babe...” Devin gasped and he held on to his mate’s hand. He felt his heart pounding in his chest. He was nervous beyond imagination. Why was Marsha acting so strangely?

Once again, Marsha smiled weakly at her mate. “My love.” Her voice seemed to be getting weaker and weaker. “I love you always. Remember that.” She whispered.

“When I was sleeping during the caesarean, I had a dream Devin. I have to go. But David will be here and he will be the strongest wolf of this time. Take good care of him babe. Please love my David. Love him for me.” She tried to explain to her best and suddenly took a deep breath. Devin stood frozen on his spot when the doctors and the nurses rushed in. They quickly took the baby from her hand and started to connect and disconnect different machines. Devin stepped back a little, confused and hurt at the same time. He was not ready to lose his mate yet.

He watched wordlessly as he saw the love of his life breath her last. The doctors looked defeated.

The leading doctor approached Devin and gulped before speaking.

“Alpha. I am sorry. She is gone.” He whispered. His own heart ached terribly as he confirmed the death of their Luna. The heart of their pack. Devin felt as if the world had stopped revolving. He felt as if the ground beneath him was shaking. The news had knocked the air out of his lungs. His mate.... is gone? He felt his wolf howl in agony. He was about to lose control and tear the whole infirmary down when they covered her corpse with a white sheet and handed the new-born pup to their alpha.

The doctors and nurses waited in anticipation, waiting to see if the alpha who had just lost his mate would accept the unborn pup. They had seen too many times the pup being rejected. But this pup cannot be put up for adoption as he is the heir of the pack.

Devin held on to the little bundle of joy as if he was holding on to dear life. His wolf also had calmed down a little and hung his head low. His mate, his better half was gone. But he still had this little pup which is half of him and half of the one he loved.

Devin’s eyes filled with tears. His beta and their parents barged into the cubicle as Devin fought with his unshed tears.

Marsha’s mother wailed painfully as she saw the corpse of her daughter. This was supposed to be a happy day. But fate had other plans.

“Devin....” his mother trailed off. Finally, the tears that had been gathering in his eyes, started to roll out of his eyes. He let the tears roll down his cheeks as he looked at the little pup in his hands. Slowly his little eyes opened, revealing baby blue eyes, just like Marsha’s.

Devin smiled through his tears at the new born. “David. You have your mother’s eyes.” He choked as he spoke through his silent sobs. More tears rolled down his cheeks. His heart was shattered, but he will have to be strong. For David. His David. Their David.

  • Rejected and forsaken   Epilogue

Narrator. King Richard found himself on a strange land. There was greenery everywhere. However, he was certain that this wasn’t the forest that he grew up in. Definitely not the place where his clan was located. He started to look around for anything interesting. “Richard!” That voice shocked him beyond words. His heart skipped a beat as his breathing hitched. Can it be? Gasping, he turned in the direction of the voice, searching desperately for the owner of the voice. “Maria?” He called out hopefully. Is it possible that she was back? “Hey.” The voice called out once again. And this time, Richard found himself frozen on his spot. Slowly, a smile spread on his face. There,

  • Rejected and forsaken   Coronation night

King Richard pov. “Attention everyone! Princess Carol and Prince David!” The announcer announced into the microphone. Making all the guests turn towards the stage where I was waiting for them to come and sit on the throne. I smiled when I saw my little girl walk towards the stage, hand in hand with her beloved. Both of them, held their heads up high, their faces void of any emotions, though I knew that in their hearts, their feelings would be going haywire. After all, they were going to become the next power couple of the millennium. It meant that they would be the most powerful with the opal at their service, however, it also meant their lives would be filled with trials and hardships. Perhaps, lots and lots of wars and enemies too. But I knew they would make it t

  • Rejected and forsaken   Life was complete

Narrator By the time everything had settled and the civilians retreated back to their homes, it was almost sunrise, so they decided to stay in the pack house for the day. Nolan continued to think about Kat. Today was her birthday. And it was when she was supposed to find her beloved. However, that will have to wait. He couldn’t wait to touch her so that she would finally realise that he was the one she had been waiting for. He just couldn’t wait to go back. A group of wolves came to meet David, asking him to be their alpha. But David denied. He no longer had the desire to be their alpha. He wanted to be with Carol. • Rejected and forsaken   Only the strongest

Narrator David walked in slowly, looking around the place he one lived in. The place that he grew up in. The place was still the same. The pack house was a huge place, consisting of a grand room and several rooms on each floor of the house. The kitchen and the living room would be on the ground floor. While the first floor consisted of the beta’s quarters, one part of it was used by the elders. The second floor had the high elder’s room and the top floor was specially for the alpha and Luna. A feeling of nostalgia washed over David as he ascended the grand staircase which was covered in red carpet. This was the same set of stairs he used to run up and down during his childhood. He used to play in the hallway with Cade, who used to be his best friend then. A sad smile curved his lips when remembered those days. When he reac

  • Rejected and forsaken   A severed bond

David pov “David!” I heard a voice that I thought I would never hear again. My gaze rested on Carol, my mate. The one who carried my mark. A small smile curved my lips as I gazed deep into her green orbs. My heart palpitated as our gazes met. Yes. This girl means the whole world to me now. She was the one who healed my broken heart. She was The one who showed me that I too was worthy of love. I smiled at her. However, her eyebrows were knitted in a deep frown. I knew she was looking at Hailey. “Who is that?” she questioned. I sighed and turned around. Hailey was staring at me with sad eyes. Before I could say anything, she ran up to me and halted right in front of me.

  • Rejected and forsaken   It is war!

Narrator Women and children started to run around, in fear. The elders and the warriors were quick to gather in front of the pack house. Cade was already barking away orders. Hailey too was trying her best to calm the elders and children down and lead them towards the basement of the pack house, where they would be the safest. Elder Barron too had to join the rest of the elders. Gerald also decided to help them. He now could use his powers to defend his pack. The opal will have to wait. Soon, the huge army of vampires invaded the pack, slashing their claws and crushing the bones of whoever attacked them. The strength of vampires were certainly not a match for the werewolves. The whole place was soon a blood bath and the warriors who attacked them were easily defeated. It was clear that the vampires were stronger than the werewolves, even in their wolf form. Cade fought with the elders, his father by his side. Gerald made sure that he had formed a prot
