Maximus’ POV~~

"Listen, warriors.” I called the attention of the warriors I had hand-picked among the other warriors. It might be dangerous out there in the woods, so I have to go with three of them in case the need arises. Who knows what we might encounter out there in the woods? It’s always reeking of danger—more reason an omega would be able to survive alone out there.

I shifted my gaze from one warrior to the other. Their eyes are etched with determination, even though I haven’t told them what we are about to do. I picked them because I knew they were stronger among the others.

“I had picked you because I needed your support. As you all know, our Alpha has been bedridden for over six months, and different healers from different packs have come here to offer their assistance and support to us regarding his health, but all our efforts to bring him back to his feet have been fruitless. And you know we can’t sit behind and wait for the inevitable to happen, right?” I explained as t

Maximus’ POV~~*Bang* I saw another wolf with the speed of lightning. Healer Aric’s wolf crashed into a tree nearby and shrieked in agony. I think I made a mistake by asking him to take the lead, but if he didn't, who would? Before I knew what was happening, we were surrounded by rogue wolves. I darted my eyes around; they were five in number, which means the same as us. There shouldn’t be cause for alarm, but then I remembered healer Aric’s wolf is down. Fuck! This shouldn’t be happening right now. I can take on two wolves single-handedly; this filled me with a little glimmer of hope. I said little because I don’t know how powerful these rogue wolves are. The aura that emanated from their body was that of an old rogue. They would be very strong, judging by the fact that they sent Healer Aric’s wolf flying into the air with just a single kick. Well, since he is just a healer, he can’t be as strong as a warrior would be. All these thoughts were going on in my head. You would think I

Maximus’ POV~~ “D*e, you ruthless beast!” I slashed him with my powerful, elongated claws. The sharp claws tear through fur and flesh. I didn’t know where I had made the cut, but I knew it was with fury, rage, and determination that had settled down in the core of my being. I turned to face the brown-furred wolf. It was as if I had punctured the base of his neck with a sword. The sight was gory. A crimson stream of blood gushed from its neck, painting the brow fur in a stark contrast of red against brown. The brown-furred wolf’s amber-gold eyes widened in pain and shock. The air seemed to stand still. The forest echoed with the haunting sound of the clash. The metallic scent of blood lingered in the air. The tension in the air was palpable. The faces of the rogue wolves contorted in horror. While some widened their eyes in disbelief of what just happened. It was as if they all stopped the battle from going on, and they all focused on us, seeing their leader in a pool of his own blo

Maximus’ POV ~~It’s been almost three hours since we started running, following healer Aric’s guidance. Just as we were running ahead, we caught sight of a cabin, which prompted healer Aric Wolf to come to a halt, and we also halted following his signal. “We are here,” he said as soon as we stopped in our tracks. He transformed back into a human and told us to do the same. Looking at the cabin, which is just a few miles away from us, changing into a human can be dangerous for us, but we have to follow his command. “Don’t change yet,” I commanded through the mindlink to one of the warriors. The rest of us transformed back into humans, leaving the one I had ordered no to behind us. I have a reason for doing that. “Let's walk slowly to the cabin so as not to attract noise,” healer Aric ordered while we heeded his warning. The fact that he asked us to walk without attracting noise still baffles me. Why do we have to slink ahead when the witch in question isn’t aware of our coming? It

Maximus’ POVIt felt strange to me how this woman’s voice sent pangs of fear throughout my body. I raised my head to meet her gaze. Her eyes, that swirling storm of green like emeralds meeting deep purple amethyst, locked onto me. It was like staring into a bottomless pit—a pit that promised oblivion. “Are you f***king deaf? She scowled. "Who are you?” The woman yelled this time in her old, weathered voice as she hit me with the gnarled staff in her hand. I felt a touch of fear ripple through me at the impact. It wasn’t the staff that sent a jolt of terror through me; it was the power buzzing from it.My breath hitched, a strangled gasp in the heavy air. My muscles, before tense with fear, turned to jelly. I wanted to run, to scream, to do anything to break free from the invisible chains that held me captive. A cold sweat slicked my skin, turning my clothes clammy and clinging. Shame burned hot in my throat, a bitter ember of humiliation at being reduced to a trembling mess. If I had

Maximus’ POV~~ “My help? Tell me, what did you need me to do?” She probed as the corners of her eyes crinkled.“Don’t mind my manners, healer; let’s go inside my cabin so we can have a proper discussion,” the old witch said as she took the lead and walked us to her cabin. The cabin hunched over like a crooked old crone, its roof thatched with a patchwork of moss and wild grasses. Smoke curled from a chimney that leaned like a drunken sailor, disappearing into the thick, twilight sky.Twisted branches of ancient oak clawed at the sagging walls, half-embracing the ramshackle structure. Carved symbols, weathered and strange, peeked out from under peeling paint. The closer I got, the stronger the smell hit me—woodsmoke, damp earth, and something else—something herbal and sharp that made my nose twitch. This wasn't your grandma's cozy cabin. This was a place steeped in magic, and maybe a touch of danger.“Come in,” she gestured to us. Healer Aric took the lead, while I followed behind.

Back at the Wolfsong Dominion pack. Cassius’ POV~~It's been more than fifteen hours since Max and the warriors left with healer Aric in search of the moon goddess. My head shifted to the window, and the sun creeped in, painting a skinny line on the dusty floor. Same as yesterday. Same as every day for six months. This bed, these walls—they're my whole world now. My muscles, once strong, yell every time I try to move. Will it ever stop? This weakness, this feeling like a trapped animal? Healers came, mumbled stuff, and left me with bitter concoctions that did little more than lull me into a restless sleep. But there's someone that Max had told me, a story carried on the wind—a woman deep in the woods, a witch, they say.Witches used to scare me—those stories of hags and dark rituals. Now, it's like a light in the dark, a promise of something more. They say she can fix what's broken—what the healers and shamans couldn't. Doubt stings, like a tiny snake in my chest. Callista’s POV Two men, once trusted, now haunt my thoughts with their treachery. One, the man I loved first, the one who took away my most treasured value, my virginity, away from me, the one who whispered promises of forever in my ear. How could he condemn me to death because he doesn’t trust me, huh? F**k this trust; I don't think I need it anymore. The pain of his betrayal cuts deep, like a wound that refuses to heal. I don’t think I will be able to forgive him. I can’t, not until I make him pay for what he has done. And again, Tristan, the one who shattered my world with a single act of violence, took my father from me, plunging me into a darkness I never thought possible. Yet, despite the anger that boils within me, there is a different kind of connection between us. A bond that I cannot deny, no matter how hard I try. Stupid mate bond. “Are you kidding me? You dare call our bond stupid?”“Just shut it; I don't need you right here, okay? Don’t mess with my head. I need to thi

I hastened my pace and headed straight down to the Alpha’s palace. I got there in no time and pushed open the door. “Oh, you got here before me.” My gaze fixed on Andrian, who seemed to have gotten to the office a moment ago. He nodded his head. “I'm always at your service,” I giggle softly. “Trust you for that,“So, tell me, Alpha, do you want me to make a war plan?” He asked as soon as I took a seat in front of him. A war plan? “Is that really necessary? They can’t be prepared for our coming; even if they are, they can’t be on par with us,” I said as a matter of fact.“That's a fact, Alpha, but I take an interest in pre-war planning and strategy.”"Yeah, I know that, but I don't think it's really necessary right now,” I countered

"I... didn't mean... to... umm," but before I could finish my statement, he grabbed me by the waist and his gaze darkened. "Say it." His voice came out in a husky manner, making my bodily hair stand out. A weird sensation made me rub my tights together as the warmth spread. "Say it." He urged me again, making me feel a little hesitant. He looked totally different from how he was a few minutes ago. I felt our bodies collide after he pulled me closer and nibbled on my collar bone in a seductive manner. "Say my name once more." He smirked, and before I could react, he slammed his lips against mine a little roughly and lifted me up at the same time. Before I could comprehend what was going on, I was already on the bed with his weight resting on me, but his lips never parted from mine. A moan escaped my lips, but that di

The air crackled with unspoken emotions—a tangible tension that stretched between us. "Tristan," I began, my voice barely above a whisper. He met my gaze, his blue eyes searching mine. "Callista," he replied, his voice rough with emotion. “I am sorry.” His tone was low and soft. I gave him a small smile. “We can’t duel in the past; I have forgiven you wholeheartedly,” I responded as a matter of fact. “I shouldn’t have broken the bond back then,” he said with a regret-filled voice. “It's fine. Callista’s POV “Mommy!" Jessica’s arms wrapped tightly around my waist, burying her face in my stomach. Relief washed over me, bittersweet and sharp. "Where did you go? Aunt Lily said you left to kill big bad wolves!" I chuckled, the sound raspy. "Not exactly, sweetheart. I went to help Alpha Cassius and his pack. They needed a little… assistance." Jessica tilted her head back, peering up at me with wide, worried eyes. The resemblance to Cassius, with her sharp jaw and frame, was uncanny. But her eyes—those held a warmth Cassius never possessed, but of mine. "Did you get hurt, Mommy?" Her tiny hand reached up to touch a bruise blooming on my arm. Guilt gnawed at me. Leaving Jessica, even for a war I couldn't ignore, felt like a betrayal. "Just a few scratches, honey bee. Nothing a good night's sleep won't fix." I kneeled before her, forcing a smile. Jessica’s concern was a stark reminder of the responsibility I bore—to her, to my pack, and yes, even to Cassius, her father. But un

Cassius’ POV“Alpha, they are subduing us at the south border!" A fear-painted link echoed through my head, a glaring contrast to the ringing silence that had just descended on the clearing. Callista flinched beside me, her eyes wide with alarm. Pain flared in my shoulder, a throbbing reminder of the fight, but it was nothing compared to the sudden surge of fear that just coursed through me. "Shit! Let's go to the south border!" I roared the command, adrenaline masking the ache in my body. I scrambled to my feet, ignoring the way the world tilted for a moment.Callista was already moving; a black, brown, and white hybrid was disappearing into the trees. I pushed myself after her, pushing through the pain and the fear of a hot coal in my gut. Let’s move now!” She ran off towards the woods while the remaining warriors ran after her without answering my questions. As the pouncing from the woods became heavier and nearer, a realization dawned on me about what she said. Most of the packs in the North are joining forces against us. This is going to be a long night. “Shit!” I yelled and ran after her. We came to a halt when we caught sight of two groups of enemies pouncing forward in our direction. “These are two packs here,” I said immediately as I caught up with her. “Yeah, maybe they split up,” she nodded. “Attack!” she growled loudly as the earth trembled beneath our feet. The air crackles with anticipation, and the scent of fur thickens in my nostrils. The full moon hangs like a giant, watchful eye in the sky, casting the battlefield in an eerie silver light. Howls erupt from both sides. A scream of rage reverberates across the forest.Callista s

Callista’s POV The news of my arrival sparked a fire in the entire pack. Nervousness hung heavy in the air, but it was mixed with fierce determination. Young and old warriors gathered on the training ground, their eyes blazing with fighting spirit.I felt anger brewing up in me when Cassius’ gamma told me he asked me to come into his office. I had planned on how to trash him with words, but as I got in, his gaze made those thoughts fly away. A part of me craves him, and another part is pushing me away, but whichever part it is, I don’t think I would listen to anyone if it were. I just have to go ahead with what I came here to do and push those feelings aside. We can’t be on the battleground with emotions flying around. It would make either of us lose concentration. A frustrated groan escaped my lips. Had I traveled all this way, defying logic and reason, just to be on the receiving end of his teasing and flirtation? “I can do anything I want; this isn’t the Callista from years ago
