ROSHIDA
“Won’t he get mad when he finds out?” I looked at her, confused at what she was talking about. “Who is that you speak of? Last I checked, I didn't owe anyone my whereabouts. So who cares if he finds out?” I wanted to leave the pack back to mine today. It has been a while since I'd been away from my family and I wanted to go see them again. At least to let them know I was doing fine. “I don't think you want to wear that.” She looked down at her dress. “What? I like this dress. Why don't you want me to wear it?” “It’s not me. We have places to be today. Just trust me. Wear something else.” Today was going to determine a lot. That was why I needed to go see my parents first. I needed their good luck to go with me. “You know, I'm proud of you. For standing up to them. I didn't think you'd be able to do it. What exactly did you say that got them so mad like that? ” That's right. I hadn't told Sophia that I'd decided to divorce. It was something that just slipped out in the heat of the moment and I'd gone a long with it. At this point, it seemed like the best option. Divorce him and let Kelly have him. I wasnt losing him because he wasn't a real man. That's why I had to take charge of my own life sknce he had done so with his. As I came down the stairs, I met Grace and Fiona in the living room. Not paying any attention to them, I walked past them. “Where are you going dressed like that? You think you can just stand up and leave this house when you please?” I turned around to look at them. “Who am I supposed to ask permission from? You? That's so stupid. Let's go, Sophia.” I'd like to see them try to stop me from leaving the house. “Wow, you really told her. I really thought you were going to trade words with her.” I didn't have time to banter words with any of them. The journey was far enough. We made it back to our pack. My heart broke when I saw what had become our once great kingdom. It was now a shadow of itself. The buildings were beginning to look run down and it was only a matter of time before people began to slowly forget that there was once a pack like this. This was not what my father planned for himself. But I was going to fix it. Their graves were in the mansion. Behind the mansion actually. My father had built a place for him and my mother to be laid to rest side by side. He said he wanted to be with her even in their deaths. My brothers had been buried there too. The door had been sealed shut since no one was going to be around to look after them. It also helped avoid people coming to loot their graves in search of gold and jewels. The last time I was here, I cried and cried until Sophia had to carry me away. That was a day after my mother's burial before I was whisked away to that dungeon. “Hey mum. Hey dad. It's been a while. I'm so sorry I haven't been able to come back to say hello. There's just been so much going on. Mum, I don't want you to blame yourself for anything that's happening now. You were just trying to help out like all mothers do and I appreciate that.” If either of us had known that Felix was a gold digger, we would not have gone ahead with it. “But today, I'm taking a bold step to rid myself of that leech forever. I need your guidance. I'll make sure that he doesn't get a dime from anything. You can trust that. I miss you guys so much, each and everyone of you.” I just stayed there and stared at their graves like it would make them come back to life. I wish I could have my family back. Anything to have my family back. They were worth so much more. Sophia placed her hand on my shoulder. “We have to leave now, Roshida. You said we have somewhere else to be.” That's right. If we didn't need it now, I would have to go back tomorrow to see him. I heard that it was a hassle just to finally get him to see you because of the amount of people who needed his attention. I just hoped that there won't be a lot of people there today. “Where are we going? Would you tell me now?” “We’re going to see the Lycan King.” If I stayed in that house and did nothing, then I won't be winning any time soon. If they were making moves, it was only normal for me to make moves as well. Surely, they didn't expect that I would sit back and watch while they tried to humiliate me. “What did you say? Why didn't you tell me earlier?! I can't go to the Capital looking like this!” I looked at her. “You look just fine. I did tell you to change your dress though. You're fine, I'll be in and out before you know it.” I could still hear mumbling behind me about how she hated me. We made our way to the Capitol and went to the waiting area. The hall was filled with people and I cursed under my breath. “You have got to be kidding me. This is exactly what I was avoiding.” The fact that more people were coming in after us didn't make things any better. There was so much noise in the hall and I knew we were going to be here for a very long time. I just looked around completely confused about what to do until I felt someone tap my shoulder. It was a man and there was a mask over the bottom half of his face. “You can go write your name over there.” He pointed behind him and truly, I saw people standing in a queue to write their names. That line was equally long and when it eventually got to our turn, I saw that we were the three thousandth people to be here. Before I could turn around to look at him, he had disappeared. As we walked over and fought to make our way to write out names, we were the three thousandth people to be her. “Do you see the numbers? We'll be here for the whole day.” Now, I'm thinking I should have come here before going to our pack. Maybe we would have been done by this time. Sophia and I found a place to just stand and watch as we didn't want to be caught up in the field of humans. I didn't know how we would know when it was our turn but somehow, we would figure it out. We had been standing for so long that my legs were beginning to hurt. As if that was not enough, the guards came and told us that we had to go outside because we were making a hell of a noise. I wasn't even talking but oh well… Now we weren't only standing, we were standing in the sun. The fact that we hadn't eaten all day didn't make the journey any better. “Can we come back tomorrow? We don't even know if we'll get to see him today. There are still so many people before us.” She had a point. If it was just me, I didn't mind staying all day until they called for me. But I had to consider her. I looked at the watch on my hand. “Let’s stay till it's three. Then we'll leave. Just a few more minutes.” I was very tired too and I wanted to go home but when I thought about the house I was returning to, it didn't seem very appealing either. Just then, We heard a guard's voice. “Roshida Clark of Ràven Claw Pack!” I turned to Sophia. “Will you do fine without me or you want to come with me?” She gave me a look. “Are you crazy? No thank you. I'm not appearing in front of the Lycan King with a gun to my head. Have fun. Hurry up.” I laughed at her cowardice and made my way through the rough crowd and met up with the guard who was waiting for me upfront. He led me back into the palace and up two flights of stairs. “The King will see you now.” My heart was beating as I walked behind him. Was I wanted to do this or would this just make things worse? The large wooden doors fell back and I took a deep breath, taking long strides towards the throne. His throne was huge and his eyes were set on me as I closed the distance between us. The queen was to his side and the both of them stared at me like I had done something wrong. I bowed. “Your majesty, it's an honor to be here. Thank you for seeing me.” “You say you are Alpha Clark's daughter from Raven Claw?” I nodded but remembered who I was speaking to. “Yes, my King. My father is the Late Alpha. I'm Roshida Clark.” I stayed with my head down for a moment before I heard his voice. “You may rise. You're such a grown young lady now. I knew your father. He was my very good friend. A very good man himself. Very loyal.” My dad knew the Lycan King? He turned to the Queen. “Her father and I used to work together before I became King. At the time, I even proposed a marriage for her and our son but things didn't work out.” A marriage?! So I would have been betrothed to the future King? I had no idea that they were that close. ”I had no idea, My King. My father never told me about anything.” “Of course, after a while, war broke out and we lost contact. And then, I became King. I met you when you were just a little girl. So full of life. I'm very sorry for the loss of your family. You were all so nice.” All I could do was nod. He was speaking very freely. I had expected to come here and be very formal but now, he was speaking like an uncle. A guard walked past me and handed the King a piece of paper. “I see here you're asking for a divorce from your husband on account of bringing another woman into your home. You married Felix? I had no idea he was married. And to you of all people. How did that happen?” I explained to him what happened before my mother died and also explained to him why I want a divorce. He looked back at the paper. “I see. Normally, the time given for a divorce is after one year of marriage. It says here you've barely been married for five months. Three months infact. That's too soon. But I can help you in another way. I can make sure that he and the other woman never get married. He will listen to an order.” I didn't care if they got married. That was not my business. I just wanted to be free from him. Him not marrying her would just make him disturb my life even more. I didn't want that. “My King, if I may. I do not wish to be married to him any longer. If he wishes to marry her, then I am fine with it. I just wanted to be rid of him and live my life. That's all.” Whether or not he doesn't marry Kelly, it doesn't make him a better person.ROSHIDA The King was silent. “Do you realise what you are asking, young lady? You want to leave your husband? A highly decorated Alpha? Firstly, do you realise the implications that carry?” Screw the implications. “My King, I've thought about it and I'm ready to bear it all. Nothing is too much to bear as long as I get to leave that house. I've suffered more than enough and I deserve better. I'm ready to face it all”. I just needed him to be convinced. If I can plead my case to him and he accepts it, then I'm fine. “Roshida, that's your name right? The reason your father sent you to military school, if I remember clearly, was because you were born without a wolf. He didn't want you to be trampled upon. I don't want that either for you.” I was wolfless but I wasnt useless. I felt more at ease, like I was talking to my father or uncle. “Your majesty, I understand your concerns and I appreciate them but then, the skills I have acquired won't be entirely useless. I can take care o
ROSHIDA I walked out of the throne room and went back to Sophia. I didn't even know what to tell her because I was sure that she would be so disappointed just like I was. How was I going to get Felix to agree? Even with a gun to his head, he wouldn't want to divorce me because he wants me to lay for the wedding. “Wait!” I turned around and the man who had turned out to be the prince walked up to me. I curtsied as he approached me. “Rise. Is your husband willing to let you go?” I shook my head. “He wants my money so he can pay for his wedding with her. He doesn't care about me.” He nodded. His eyes were intense and I had to look away from them for a moment. “Do you want me to help you?” I looked back at him immediately and my eyes widened. “No, you don't have to do that. I'll figure out a way to get him to say yes.” “Is he going to say yes?” I couldn't answer that. “So you need my help..don't worry, go home. You'll have your approval by tomorrow.” Before I could say any
ROSHIDAFelix stayed staring at me for a few seconds. His breathing had calmed down now that he had heard what he wanted.“Did you hear me? I don't care about you and her. You can marry her and the entire world if you want to. Don't come into my room and spew rubbish again. I won't like it. Do as the peince has said. Give me the letter of approval so I can leave.”He really thought I'd leave my house and go all the way to the Capital, stand under the sun for over an hour just to see the King and tell him that I wanted to stop his wedding to Kelly?A wedding that they wanted me to fund?.He pushed himself off the wall and pointed his finger at me.“ You're now sleeping with the prince, aren't you? Is that what this Don’t do anything stupid like this again. Just lay low until the wedding is over.”“Take that finger out of my face before I break it and shove it up your ass. Go on, go write the letter bedore rhenleonce comes back and gives you a reason to cry. I heard he has a temper. ”
ROSHIDAShe looked furious. Her nostrils were flaring and she was giving Felix the dirtiest look ever.I expected her to slap him for saying a thing like that. That statement wasn't just disrespectful to me, but to her as well. That's if she was smart enough to realize it. It meant that he didn't care if she was there and about to marry her but he was ready to put a baby inside me so that I won't leave. The thought of being a co wife pisses me off so much. If he has even been a good husband, I might consider it. If he knew how to take responsibility and how to be an actual Alpha and not a phony, then maybe I would have stayed. But he was far from everything.“What does it matter? You don't seem to want to let him go so he's offering you a solution.”Her response angered me. What had he done to her?“Have you lost it? How can you say a thing like that? So you do not realize how insulting it is? Especially to my person. Am I so useless that you think I can agree to carry a baby just for
ROSHIDA I didn't hear when she said it. “You should be grateful that you are still in this house. The Luna would have kicked you out back where you came from. You're nothing to me. You're despicable and you're disgusting.” He didn't even give Kelly the chance to say something for herself or retaliate. He slapped Sophia, hard across the face that Sophia fell to the floor. I was stunned for a moment. I couldn't process what had just happened. “How dare you speak to her that way? Don't you know she's my wife to be? She's the next Luna of this pack and you are nothing but a dirty slave. Apologise to her now.” I saw the tears in Sophia's eyes and that was all it took. Along with the anger I had pent up, I slapped him back. Just as hard. This time around, he wasn't the only one dazed. Both he and Kelly took steps back in awe as I helped Sophia off the floor. It was bad enough that he was treating me like this but I won't let him lay a finger on Sophia. “Next time, don't
ROSHIDAKelly spoke up before he had the chance to come out of his daydream.“What did you just say? You want him to beg you? He would rather die. Why does he have to beg you for money? Both of you are married, that money belongs to him too.”I had caught her.“So do you finally admit that we are married?”She turned pale, not being able to say anything else.“Well, what I was saying was-”“Shut up, Kelly.”Grace joined in.“Yes, shut up Kelly. Roshida, you have to understand that he has his pride to protect as an Alpha. I mean, I'm begging you already. Isn't that enough? Both of you are married, no one can deny that. So just help your husband out.”This woman was so two-faced.She was the same one raining curses on me every other day but today when she wanted to beg for my money, her voice was calm.Fiona didn't say anything and she just stayed back and watched all that happened.Felix finally spoke up.“You want me to beg you? For money? I can't do that. I'm an Alpha. Do you realize
ROSHIDASince they couldn't do anything to me, they decided to go for the one thing that they could touch. My reputation.I was in the room when Sophia ran in.“You won't believe what is going around the village about you.”Actually, I didn't care but she seemed very determined to tell me so I dropped my book and listened to her.“I heard from one of the maids in the kitchen that Fiona asked them to tell people around the village that you're wolfless. And that it was because of your character that you have this curse. She said you're cursed and that's why Felix is marrying another woman.”Well, they had really sat down to think about that story. I mean, they did have to find something convincing to tell the people if he wanted to divorce their Luna and marry someone else.“That seems like a very nice story. And I take it that the people are responding positively.”“Yes, they're believing it. We have to do something.”Sophia liked to panic.“We don't have to do anything except sit back
FELIXI was on the verge of losing it. I wanted to run away and never come back.As soon as I woke up, I was met with Kelly's attitude. She refused to speak to me as she was still mad that I didn't do anything when Roshida slapped me.She was the Luna. I couldnt touch her but she didn't listen. As if that was not enough, I had my mother's attitude to deal with. She whined and complained all day that Roshida has refused to come to her to take care of her. She'd call me and complain until I couldn't take it anymore.“Just stop it, mother. Please, just stop it! Do you think it's easy for me too? I have so much on my plate and you're not making it any better.”“Felix, you’re raising your voice at me?”“I'm not. What do you need her for, though? You're not sick, you can walk on your own so why do you want her to come to your room and serve you?”Her eyes danced as I waited for an answer.“I'm getting old, I need people to help me.”That was a lie and she knew it.“If you need attention, ge
VALFRED I couldn't say anything to her. When I heard about what happened to her, I wanted to go immediately and check on her by my father said that he would have to be dead before I walked out of the house after just being free from the debris on top of me. I wasn't supposed to go to the Trade Center today but just as the last minute after breakfast, I decided that since I didn't have anything to do today, I might as well get some work done. I'd only entered the building and gotten into the elevator when the alarm went off. At first, I thought it was a drill but then when the elevator door opened and I saw the smoke and the way people were in panic mode, I knew it wasn't a drill. With how big and important the Trade centre was, it meant that there would be a lot of people in it and a lot of people running at the same time meant a stampede. A stampede which I could see before me happening and I
ROSHIDA I didn't have to tell him twice before he accepted. Although he was a little skeptical since there were still procedures that he had to follow with Child Services and all but once I told him that the Queen was involved in this, he was grateful to have something that he could shove in their faces. Sophia helped me carry the bags to the car while Valfred drove us home. All the while, I didn't bother raising my head up and I didn't even realize it until we had gotten home. My whole attention was on Liam. His eyes were finally opened and I just couldn't look away from the tiny little creature in front of me. He had his mother's eyes. While looking through Brianna's things, I'd seen a picture of her and I took it with me so that I could show it to Liam when he got older. I wasn't going to take that away from him more Brianna. He deserved to know the wonderful woman who had raised him. A
ROSHIDAI didn't even bother to finish taking the IV. I'd removed it from my arm last night and worn my clothes. “Where are her personal effects? I need to see if she has any family.” He led me to the reception and brought out the bag. “We’d already gone through it but we couldn't find anything. There was nothing to say who she was or where she came from.”Shit. Meaning I didn't even know if Brianna was her real name. How could no one know who she was?“What’s going to happen to her body?”“In cases like this where there is no one to claim it, the body usually takes care of it. We do our best to respect the dead and give them a resting place.”Brianna deserved better for all her struggle. “Can I claim her body?”“That would make very happy. That girl deserved more. I'll get you the release forms and then the morticians will help you with her body.”I followed him back to his office so I could get the forms. Who is to blame for what had happened? Emergency services? The Fire De
134ROSHIDAShe ignored my question and pulled me in for a hug. “Oh, I was so worried when I heard about you. What happened? The doctor said you went into shock?”I nodded. “A lot happened.”“Where did you go? Why didn't you go with a guard? I hear you helped a woman give birth?”I nodded and she finally smiled with tears in her eyes. “Youre really amazing. I was so worried. Come, have a seat.”I sat down beside her. “What about the Prince? Is he here too? Is he okay?” She nodded. “He’s fine. They were able to get him out and he bounced right back up, even refused treatment. But his father forced him to take some drugs for the pain. But he'll be fine. He doesn't know you're here yet.”Gosh, I'm so happy he was fine. If anything had happened to the Prince…“I need to check on the woman I'd brought here. I need to make sure that she's doing okay.”I wanted to stand up but she held me back. “Why don't you rest for tonight? I'm sure you can see the tomorrow.”Right now, it wasn't t
ROSHIDA “Rub the chest. Make sure that the baby cries. Spank him! Any thing you have to do..” I did all she said I should do but the baby wasn't crying and Brianna wasn't moving. “Brianna? Hey, wake up! Your baby's here.” She didn't move. Her body was limp. Now I was with a baby that wasn't crying and a mother who wasnt moving. I was about to start crying. In a fit of desperation, I spanked that baby on his buttocks so hard and he started crying. The way relief washed over my body, I couldn't explain it. “Screw the ambulance. Sophia, do you know how to drive? Please, get down to the park. Um, the name is Riverdale. Please get down here as soon as possible. I need you to help me get to the hospital. Brianna isn't moving or responding.” I tried shaking her more times but she didn't move. I even placed the baby on her so that maybe she will move but she didn't.
ROSHIDA I turned around immediately and the pregnant woman was on the floor holding her waist. “Please, please help me. I don't know what's going on.” I rushed over to her, discarding the drink in my hand. “Hey, it's okay. Just like down flat on the floor. It's okay.” I tried to call for people around but it was today of all days that there was no one here. I looked down at her legs and figured that she was in labor. The wetness on her dress said it all. She was panicking and screaming loudly. “What’s your name?” “Brianna!” “Okay Brianna, we're going to do something. I need you to take deep breaths for me okay. Take very deep breaths. Screaming is only going to make it worse.” I didn't know what the hell I was saying but if I panicked, she would notice it and right now, one of us had to act like we knew what
ROSHIDA I expected to see him at the dinner table but he wasn't there. It's not because I wanted to speak to him. I had nothing to say to him actually but I just wanted to see him. His parents didn't seem to be worried about his absence so why should I? They probably knew where he was. “Roshida, I thought you had plans to leave today. What changed?” I'd forgotten that I hadnt told them. “My apologies. It skipped my mind to tell you but I'd like to stay an extra week. If it's fine with you.” The King was the first who spoke up. “Yes! That is fine. We would be pleasured to have you stay here. Don't bother about your pack or the Fortress. I'll take care of everything.” There was no way I wouldnt worry for my people. They had been put into my care and I had to live up to expectations.
130 VALFRED“Do you want me to do something about it?” “What could you possibly want to do? If you get involved, it'll just be worse because they'll think I came to report them to you.” “Do you care?! It's your life and Laura's life we're talking about. If you don't care about yourself, think about your sister. What will you do when they start coming after her? Let me help you.”I knew that what I was saying was falling on deaf ears. “I can't do that. Thank you though. I'm sure I'll figure it out. You don't have to worry.” That was bullshit and at the end, I'll eventually do what I want. I couldn't let him deal with this alone. I knew what those people could do when they didn't get what they wanted. And I won't let them do it with Reggie. “How about you stay off work for now? Just stay home and make sure to lock your doors. Don't go seeing Laura so they won't figure out where she is. You can come stay here too if you want. I'm sure mum would be happy having you around.” “If I
VALFRED “Why is it my fault? It's not my fault you decided to act like you were speaking to a woman. Besides, why on earth were you smiling at my texts? It's weird.” I picked up a boom and threw it at him. “Youre the one who was telling me about a girl who thought you were handsome. The things you were saying were funny. Wasn't I supposed to laugh?” He dropped Kiki down. “Yes, you were supposed to laugh-” “So what's my fault-” “-Only after, you had heard her out. You like this woman. Why on earth doesn't she have your full attention? She's speaking to you and you're giggling on the phone? She must have felt humiliated and probably like you didn't want to hear what she had to say. I would have walked away too.” Great, so now, I was the asshole. The reason why I didn't look at her when she started talking was because I didn't want her to feel shy. I wa
