ROSHIDA
If I’d known earlier that my mate would come back with a woman, I would have gone on my knees and begged my mother to make another choice. A little introduction before we get into it. My name is Roshida, the late Alpha's daughter and I'm wolfless. My mother arranged for me to marry a Beta three months ago. I'd married him without a second thought three months ago because she wanted me to. It was her dying wish and how could I say no to my mother? And I have always trusted her choice. I felt like that decision would make me closer to her after her death. I couldn't exactly say I'd married him because he didn't even attend the ceremony. He'd been called to fight some war and I had to stand there like a fool at the altar, saying my vows into thin air. I didn't know what was more pathetic between that and having to act like I was happy with everything. Now he came back from the battlefield not only with a promotion to be Alpha, but a woman he claimed to be his father mate. What a joke. It was a hot sunny afternoon in the middle of June when he casually strolled into the house. His mother had thrown a tantrum earlier and had forcefully made me carry her down the stairs to sit on the verandah. I'd called for the guards to do it but she said that guards couldn't touch her so only I could carry her. She was still recovering and hadn't fully regained full mobility. He walked straight to her, brushing past me as though I wasn't there. “My son!” They embraced each other tightly. He looked quite different from the last time I'd seen him but then again, war would do that to you. “I see you're doing well, mother. It's so good to see you this bright.” I was waiting for him to notice me or for his mother to say that I'd been taking care of her. But neither happened. “Mother, for my victory in the war, the Lycan King awarded me with medals and not just that. You're looking at the new Alpha of this pack!” His mother jumped out of her chair and hugged him. I couldn't believe my eyes. She'd sworn that she couldn't move her legs earlier and that's why I had to bring her down the stairs. But now… “Oh, I'm so happy for you, son.” He still hadn't looked at me. “Oh, not just that mother.” He turned around and faced the door. A young lady came in and he put his arm around her “Mum, this is Kelly. Kelly, this is my mother.” A petite young lady came out from behind Felix. I hadn't known that someone had even been standing there. Her facial features were the first thing I noticed. Long curly brown hair, moderately big eyes, rosy lips…she was a beauty. She didn't look like a fighter. She had a soft gaze and a pretty smile that she extended towards Felix's mother. Kelly smiled lightly and shook his mother's hand. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, ma'am.” I suddenly felt sick to my stomach. What the hell was going on? “We fought on the fields together. You should have seen her, mum. She was superb. You know, once I saw her in action, I knew there was something different about her and just like that, my wolf agrees with me. She's my mate, mum. She's the woman I've been waiting for.” The woman he's been waiting for? That bile that had been rising in my throat finally made it to my mouth and I had to push it back down. “What?!” His mother exclaimed “Your what?” Good! I was not the only one who found this insane. How could he bring some random woman back home from nowhere and calimnshes his mate? What was I supposed to do? Bow to her? “My mate, mother. Isn't she beautiful?” Beautiful? Well yeah, she is but- “She’s a delight to look at. You're welcome to my home.” She had to be kidding me. Did she hear what he had said? His mate? The fact that I was still standing there with no on even realizing my presence amazed me. He called a couple of guards, telling him to take her bags upstairs and help her settle into her room. My eyes met with her once and she gave me a smirk. What was that supposed to mean? As she walked past with the guards, she bumped her shoulder into mine, making me stumble a bit and I heard her giggle. The little bitch… When he was done speaking to the guards, I approached him carefully, wondering whether I should even say anything. Whether my words would even have an effect on him. When he turned around and saw me, he didn't even give me a second look before brushing past me and walking away. Maybe he didn't see me. “Wait, I want to speak to you.” He had stopped just a few feet away from me, and he was still backing me. He didn't have the same smile on his face as he had when he was talking about her. “What do you need? I'm busy.” That was it? “Congratulations on your victory. You really-” He finally turned around to face me. “What do you want?” Ouch. I took a deep breath with my heart beating quickly in my chest. Why? Shouldn't he be the one scared? “Before you left, we got married. Do you remember telling my mother that you would have just me as a mate? You told her that there will be no issues. Who's that's lady you brought home?” For the firsy time in my life, I felt like a wife asking her husband to explain. I hated the fact that I was having to ask for an explanation. He didn't even feel I needed one. He sighed and rolled his eyes. “Last I checked, I'm the man and as you said, I'm your husband so I don't explain myself to you. Besides, I'm sure you weren't deaf to everything I said.” Who on earth was this man and what had he done with the Felix I'd met a few months before? I held his hand back as he wanted to leave again and the look of disgust made me drop my hand. “Please, just tell me what's going on. I deserve that much.” He sighed heavily. “She is Kelly and she's my mate. If I'd known that I'd find her this soon after marrying you, I wouldn't have made such a stupid mistake. I couldn't deny my wolf what he wanted. He saw her and he said that she was our mate so I had to do something. She's everything I ever wanted. You knew we weren't mates so this shouldn't come as a surprise to you.” Could he hear himself speak? Our marriage was suddenly a mistake? She's now the woman of his dreams? “Listen, this might be a lot to take in so I'll give you time but you have to understand that Kelly is going to be the new Luna, my actual wife.” I pointed to myself. “And me? What will happen to me? What about me?” “You…youll serve beside her. I mean, we can't have two Lunas and since shes my actual mate, it's the right thing to do.” The fact that I wasn't even able to cry meant that I was just too shocked. “Don’t get me wrong, we're still married but you're not just my Luna. I won't reject you though and no one has to find out about your little secret. If you know what I mean.” I wanted to call him a bastard, to tell him that he was a two faced, son of a bitch. But my misery wasn't over. And then his mother had something to say. “Why’re you explaining anything? Get used to it, because you're going to be planning the wedding.”ROSHIDA As I sat in my room that night, I felt like a fool. It was now my room because Felix had come in and said that he was now going to be sleeping with Kelly. Of course, I should have seen that coming. After everything that I'd done for this family, all because I felt that I had a new family. Felix didn't have a lot of money before. He was a Beta with little to nothing going for him so of course, when I married him, it meant that I had to do something for him and his family. I'd started by taking over his mother's medical bills. When he left, she was in dire need to help and I didn't think twice before paying for everything. Now, he's come back to see her in better shape and he didn't even say anything to me. The only thing he could do was bring another woman home with him. I should have seen it coming right from the start. The way he agreed to marry me without knowing anything about me. I didn't want to blame my mother for my present predicament. She had only done
ROSHIDA Sophia had been with me for so many years. Back home, she'd been my personal maid and she'd proven herself to be my friend and the sister I never had. She was there for me when my father, brothers and mother died, helping me get through the grief I thought would envelope me. That's why I knew I could trust her with everything. She rushed to my side before my knees buckled and I fell to the floor. “Luna, you're not doomed. Don't tell me you plan to let him marry that other woman? You're just going to give into the pressure?” What other choice did I have? He was already set on it. And he sure as hell wasnt considering me. It didn't matter to him. I didn't matter to him. “He doesn't care, Sophia. They want me to take care of the wedding. What do I do? I can't stand by and watch him marry her.” What did she have that I didn't? Why did he feel the need to humiliate me this way? After everything I did? “Luna, don't tell me you're going to let them do what they want with you
ROSHIDA The room was dead silent like the time when she first walked in. I'd gotten her tongue tied and I was enjoying it. Her mouth was open but sounds were not coming out. What a hypocritical bitch. “On a lighter note, Felix was promoted to Alpha for his efforts in the war. You know that if you work alongside her and become her co-wife, things could work out.” I felt myself get dumber just listening to her. In what sick world did she think that this could work out? Even if I did agree to this, we would hate each other for the rest of our lives and be sworn enemies. I didn't have time for all that and certainly not with a woman who was cheap enough to take someone else's husband. “I mean, think about it. He's the Alpha now, and he did say that he met her at war. You could stay back and handle things at the pack while he goes out with her to fight wars. I'm sure you're too soft and tush for all that so no one expects that from you.” This woman clearly didn't know how I was broug
FELIX It was dinner time and there was no one at the table which was weird because usually, my mother would have been here nagging the maids about what they did wrong. Kelly was the only one atbthe table and I couldn't start eating without my mother. “What’s going on?” Kelly asked as I stood up. “Give me a minute.” I went upstairs to look for her. I was sure that she had fallen asleep reading a book or something. “What are you saying? Return everything to you? Do you really think you did this family a favor?” Who was Fiona speaking to in Roshida's room? The door was slightly open so I just stood there and listened in. “I’m very sure you weren't deaf when I said it. Everything that I've given to you and your mother will be returned to me. It is mine, after all.” What was Roshida saying? I opened the door and walked in. “What’s going on?” My mother clutched my arm. “Son, you should hear what your wife is saying. She's saying that she wants to leave you and that she wants ev
ROSHIDA “Won’t he get mad when he finds out?” I looked at her, confused at what she was talking about. “Who is that you speak of? Last I checked, I didn't owe anyone my whereabouts. So who cares if he finds out?” I wanted to leave the pack back to mine today. It has been a while since I'd been away from my family and I wanted to go see them again. At least to let them know I was doing fine. “I don't think you want to wear that.” She looked down at her dress. “What? I like this dress. Why don't you want me to wear it?” “It’s not me. We have places to be today. Just trust me. Wear something else.” Today was going to determine a lot. That was why I needed to go see my parents first. I needed their good luck to go with me. “You know, I'm proud of you. For standing up to them. I didn't think you'd be able to do it. What exactly did you say that got them so mad like that? ” That's right. I hadn't told Sophia that I'd decided to divorce. It was something that just slipped out in th
ROSHIDA The King was silent. “Do you realise what you are asking, young lady? You want to leave your husband? A highly decorated Alpha? Firstly, do you realise the implications that carry?” Screw the implications. “My King, I've thought about it and I'm ready to bear it all. Nothing is too much to bear as long as I get to leave that house. I've suffered more than enough and I deserve better. I'm ready to face it all”. I just needed him to be convinced. If I can plead my case to him and he accepts it, then I'm fine. “Roshida, that's your name right? The reason your father sent you to military school, if I remember clearly, was because you were born without a wolf. He didn't want you to be trampled upon. I don't want that either for you.” I was wolfless but I wasnt useless. I felt more at ease, like I was talking to my father or uncle. “Your majesty, I understand your concerns and I appreciate them but then, the skills I have acquired won't be entirely useless. I can take care o
ROSHIDA I walked out of the throne room and went back to Sophia. I didn't even know what to tell her because I was sure that she would be so disappointed just like I was. How was I going to get Felix to agree? Even with a gun to his head, he wouldn't want to divorce me because he wants me to lay for the wedding. “Wait!” I turned around and the man who had turned out to be the prince walked up to me. I curtsied as he approached me. “Rise. Is your husband willing to let you go?” I shook my head. “He wants my money so he can pay for his wedding with her. He doesn't care about me.” He nodded. His eyes were intense and I had to look away from them for a moment. “Do you want me to help you?” I looked back at him immediately and my eyes widened. “No, you don't have to do that. I'll figure out a way to get him to say yes.” “Is he going to say yes?” I couldn't answer that. “So you need my help..don't worry, go home. You'll have your approval by tomorrow.” Before I could say any
ROSHIDAFelix stayed staring at me for a few seconds. His breathing had calmed down now that he had heard what he wanted.“Did you hear me? I don't care about you and her. You can marry her and the entire world if you want to. Don't come into my room and spew rubbish again. I won't like it. Do as the peince has said. Give me the letter of approval so I can leave.”He really thought I'd leave my house and go all the way to the Capital, stand under the sun for over an hour just to see the King and tell him that I wanted to stop his wedding to Kelly?A wedding that they wanted me to fund?.He pushed himself off the wall and pointed his finger at me.“ You're now sleeping with the prince, aren't you? Is that what this Don’t do anything stupid like this again. Just lay low until the wedding is over.”“Take that finger out of my face before I break it and shove it up your ass. Go on, go write the letter bedore rhenleonce comes back and gives you a reason to cry. I heard he has a temper. ”
VALFRED I couldn't say anything to her. When I heard about what happened to her, I wanted to go immediately and check on her by my father said that he would have to be dead before I walked out of the house after just being free from the debris on top of me. I wasn't supposed to go to the Trade Center today but just as the last minute after breakfast, I decided that since I didn't have anything to do today, I might as well get some work done. I'd only entered the building and gotten into the elevator when the alarm went off. At first, I thought it was a drill but then when the elevator door opened and I saw the smoke and the way people were in panic mode, I knew it wasn't a drill. With how big and important the Trade centre was, it meant that there would be a lot of people in it and a lot of people running at the same time meant a stampede. A stampede which I could see before me happening and I
ROSHIDA I didn't have to tell him twice before he accepted. Although he was a little skeptical since there were still procedures that he had to follow with Child Services and all but once I told him that the Queen was involved in this, he was grateful to have something that he could shove in their faces. Sophia helped me carry the bags to the car while Valfred drove us home. All the while, I didn't bother raising my head up and I didn't even realize it until we had gotten home. My whole attention was on Liam. His eyes were finally opened and I just couldn't look away from the tiny little creature in front of me. He had his mother's eyes. While looking through Brianna's things, I'd seen a picture of her and I took it with me so that I could show it to Liam when he got older. I wasn't going to take that away from him more Brianna. He deserved to know the wonderful woman who had raised him. A
ROSHIDAI didn't even bother to finish taking the IV. I'd removed it from my arm last night and worn my clothes. “Where are her personal effects? I need to see if she has any family.” He led me to the reception and brought out the bag. “We’d already gone through it but we couldn't find anything. There was nothing to say who she was or where she came from.”Shit. Meaning I didn't even know if Brianna was her real name. How could no one know who she was?“What’s going to happen to her body?”“In cases like this where there is no one to claim it, the body usually takes care of it. We do our best to respect the dead and give them a resting place.”Brianna deserved better for all her struggle. “Can I claim her body?”“That would make very happy. That girl deserved more. I'll get you the release forms and then the morticians will help you with her body.”I followed him back to his office so I could get the forms. Who is to blame for what had happened? Emergency services? The Fire De
134ROSHIDAShe ignored my question and pulled me in for a hug. “Oh, I was so worried when I heard about you. What happened? The doctor said you went into shock?”I nodded. “A lot happened.”“Where did you go? Why didn't you go with a guard? I hear you helped a woman give birth?”I nodded and she finally smiled with tears in her eyes. “Youre really amazing. I was so worried. Come, have a seat.”I sat down beside her. “What about the Prince? Is he here too? Is he okay?” She nodded. “He’s fine. They were able to get him out and he bounced right back up, even refused treatment. But his father forced him to take some drugs for the pain. But he'll be fine. He doesn't know you're here yet.”Gosh, I'm so happy he was fine. If anything had happened to the Prince…“I need to check on the woman I'd brought here. I need to make sure that she's doing okay.”I wanted to stand up but she held me back. “Why don't you rest for tonight? I'm sure you can see the tomorrow.”Right now, it wasn't t
ROSHIDA “Rub the chest. Make sure that the baby cries. Spank him! Any thing you have to do..” I did all she said I should do but the baby wasn't crying and Brianna wasn't moving. “Brianna? Hey, wake up! Your baby's here.” She didn't move. Her body was limp. Now I was with a baby that wasn't crying and a mother who wasnt moving. I was about to start crying. In a fit of desperation, I spanked that baby on his buttocks so hard and he started crying. The way relief washed over my body, I couldn't explain it. “Screw the ambulance. Sophia, do you know how to drive? Please, get down to the park. Um, the name is Riverdale. Please get down here as soon as possible. I need you to help me get to the hospital. Brianna isn't moving or responding.” I tried shaking her more times but she didn't move. I even placed the baby on her so that maybe she will move but she didn't.
ROSHIDA I turned around immediately and the pregnant woman was on the floor holding her waist. “Please, please help me. I don't know what's going on.” I rushed over to her, discarding the drink in my hand. “Hey, it's okay. Just like down flat on the floor. It's okay.” I tried to call for people around but it was today of all days that there was no one here. I looked down at her legs and figured that she was in labor. The wetness on her dress said it all. She was panicking and screaming loudly. “What’s your name?” “Brianna!” “Okay Brianna, we're going to do something. I need you to take deep breaths for me okay. Take very deep breaths. Screaming is only going to make it worse.” I didn't know what the hell I was saying but if I panicked, she would notice it and right now, one of us had to act like we knew what
ROSHIDA I expected to see him at the dinner table but he wasn't there. It's not because I wanted to speak to him. I had nothing to say to him actually but I just wanted to see him. His parents didn't seem to be worried about his absence so why should I? They probably knew where he was. “Roshida, I thought you had plans to leave today. What changed?” I'd forgotten that I hadnt told them. “My apologies. It skipped my mind to tell you but I'd like to stay an extra week. If it's fine with you.” The King was the first who spoke up. “Yes! That is fine. We would be pleasured to have you stay here. Don't bother about your pack or the Fortress. I'll take care of everything.” There was no way I wouldnt worry for my people. They had been put into my care and I had to live up to expectations.
130 VALFRED“Do you want me to do something about it?” “What could you possibly want to do? If you get involved, it'll just be worse because they'll think I came to report them to you.” “Do you care?! It's your life and Laura's life we're talking about. If you don't care about yourself, think about your sister. What will you do when they start coming after her? Let me help you.”I knew that what I was saying was falling on deaf ears. “I can't do that. Thank you though. I'm sure I'll figure it out. You don't have to worry.” That was bullshit and at the end, I'll eventually do what I want. I couldn't let him deal with this alone. I knew what those people could do when they didn't get what they wanted. And I won't let them do it with Reggie. “How about you stay off work for now? Just stay home and make sure to lock your doors. Don't go seeing Laura so they won't figure out where she is. You can come stay here too if you want. I'm sure mum would be happy having you around.” “If I
VALFRED “Why is it my fault? It's not my fault you decided to act like you were speaking to a woman. Besides, why on earth were you smiling at my texts? It's weird.” I picked up a boom and threw it at him. “Youre the one who was telling me about a girl who thought you were handsome. The things you were saying were funny. Wasn't I supposed to laugh?” He dropped Kiki down. “Yes, you were supposed to laugh-” “So what's my fault-” “-Only after, you had heard her out. You like this woman. Why on earth doesn't she have your full attention? She's speaking to you and you're giggling on the phone? She must have felt humiliated and probably like you didn't want to hear what she had to say. I would have walked away too.” Great, so now, I was the asshole. The reason why I didn't look at her when she started talking was because I didn't want her to feel shy. I wa
