Author’s POV

“Someone’s in a pretty bad mood,” Beta Damien of the Midnight Pack said as soon as he stepped into his Alpha’s study and noticed the rather angry look on his face.

“Shut up and get your ass here,” Alpha Zade replied without taking his eyes off his computer.

The Beta rolled his eyes as he approached the desk while muttering under his breath, “But I'm here already.”

He pulled out the chair and plopped down on it. “I really do not want to add to your terrible mood but you have to present yourself at the meeting of the elders instead of making me represent you.”

“Bad timing, Damien,” the Alpha growled. “Can we not talk about the elders at all today?”

Silence reigned in the room for a few seconds as the Beta regarded his best friend intently with intelligent grey eyes that missed nothing.

“Are you going to tell me what exactly is bothering you so that I can know how best to help you or did you ask me to come here just to stare at you?”

Zade heaved a sigh as he took off his re

Jemima’s POV“Just say what you want to say and stop staring at me like that. It's making me feel most uncomfortable,” I said to Aurora. It had taken a couple of minutes after I had showered and dressed before she returned to my room with our breakfast. And since then, she had kept on staring at me as we ate. As though she had been waiting for me to give her the go-ahead before she spoke, she perked up in excitement and the words spilled out of her mouth immediately. “Is there something going on between you and the Alpha?” she queried. I had known that she was going to ask but still, I regretted giving her the opportunity to speak about it at all. Now, I was being forced to face the issue. “I have no idea, Aurora. What do you think?” I replied.,She gave me a look. “Are you for real? While you two were devouring each other with your eyes on the training field, I was trying so hard to keep my balance so that I wouldn't be flattened to the ground by the force of the tension.”If th

Author’s POV“Good afternoon, gentlemen,” the stunning woman whom both men knew pretty well, greeted in her usual sultry voice.Paige was the only woman of the Midnight Pack who could dare to address the Alpha and Beta as gentlemen instead of their usual titles. It didn't bother either of them that she neither dipped into a curtsy nor gave a bow. Zade returned the greeting of his late Luna’s best friend with an indulgent smile while for Damien who had always had a massive crush on her, it took a little while before a greeting stumbled from his lips.“You don’t mind if I join you for lunch, do you?” Paige queried as she drew closer to the table. “There is more than enough here for the three of us,” the Beta instantly replied and Zade bit the inside of his cheek to keep from laughing. He knew quite well that if his friend was given the chance, he would eat all that was on the table alone. Damien had a larger appetite than most werewolves Zade knew. Paige’s lips curled into a sensuo

Jemima’s POVAfter about an hour of going through the book about the history of werewolves, I was beginning to get frustrated. From what I had read so far, there had been no mention of any werewolf like me. “What exactly are you looking for?” Aurora queried, noticing my frustration. “You’ve noticed that I'm not just a regular werewolf, right?” I queried and she nodded. Hope flared inside of me at the thought that she might be able to help. But her next words quickly caused it to dissipate. “You are just like the Alpha. A werewolf and a witch,” she replied and then frowned. “A rather strange witch though because of those silver streaks you’ve got in your hair. I've heard some rumours about the ones with streaks in their hair like yours.”“What rumours?” I queried, leaning forward in my seat. She leaned forward also and then her eyes gleamed mischievously.“I heard that they love to ask too many questions.”For a moment, she sounded just like Zade and it was so unsettling.Suspicio

Jemima’s POVTraining became a lot more intense after that day and I didn’t fail to notice that the Beta had somehow made it part of his routine to join us every morning. While part of me wondered why he even bothered seeing as he didn’t live in the Palace with us, I was glad that at least Aurora got to chat with her crush more often. I was also well aware of the heat simmering between Zade and me much to my wolf’s irritation. There was nothing I could do to get rid of the physical attraction between us. The only thing that was going to put an end to it was space which was why I had become much more invested in my training.I needed to learn all that I could so I could leave on time to go and be reunited with my mate. Oftentimes, I wondered if he missed me enough to go searching for me. Adrian had sworn to protect me and was ready to lay down his life for me but the relationship between us wasn’t as deep and fulfilling as it was supposed to be. Perhaps, if he was willing, the fir

Author’s POVZade had to agree within himself that asking his Beta to join the training sessions he had with Jemima every morning turned out to be a really good idea. However, he felt irritated that instead of Damien adding whatever he could to the lessons, he was mostly chatting with Aurora, Jemima’s handmaiden. He complained about it one morning when they were having breakfast together and the Beta arched an eyebrow. “You and I know that I am not capable of training someone like Jemima. Besides, you seem to be doing everything already when it comes to teaching her. I have nothing new to add to that.”“And you do not expect me to just watch you two go at it for hours. Chatting with Aurora is the only way I don't get tempted to leave after the first ten minutes.”“Whatever,” the Alpha muttered under his breath. Damien’s eyes gleamed with mischief. “Wait a minute. Don't tell me that you are jealous that I enjoy talking to someone else besides you.”Zade rolled his eyes. “Can you ple

Jemima’s POV“Are you really going to act mad right now?” I queried, really hoping that we wouldn't have any sort of argument. “We are seeing each other for the first time in weeks.”“And whose fault is that huhn?” he replied hotly. “Do you have any idea how worried I was? I thought I had lost you forever.”I scoffed. “Now you are being dramatic.”His features twisted into an expression of disbelief. “Dramatic? Are you being serious right now?”“Look Adrian,” I began, placing my hands on his shoulders. “I really do not want to have an argument with you. Let's just enjoy our reunion.”“Of course. That's so easy for you to say. And why not? You do not even care enough about me to consider my feelings before doing whatever it is you choose to do,” he replied. I rolled my eyes. “First of all, I do care about you. Secondly, not every decision I make is supposed to make you feel good. I left to protect you and the Pack and I think you should acknowledge that.”He released a frustrated sigh

Author’s POVMuch to Jemima’s annoyance, Adrian left her in the bedroom after making her all hot and bothered, claiming he had to go see the Alpha of the Midnight Pack. It had taken a high amount of self-control to not use her powers to drag him back to her bed.No, she had chosen not to do that. To her, it was a game of power and she didn't want to lose to him. That didn't stop her from channelling all of that frustration on something else though.Adrian heard the sound of the artworks that had hung on the walls of her bedroom crash to the ground and his lips curled into a smile. He had gotten an emotional reaction out of her after all. As the Alpha of the Moonstone Pack made his way back to Zade’s Study, he had to admit to himself that Jemima’s fleeing from his Pack resulted in something good. He could sense the better control she had on her emotions which also translated to better control of her abilities. “You could just say a thank you to Zade,” Kieran, his wolf suggested.

Jemima’s POVAfter the second month of my training, an opportunity came for me to apply all that I had learnt. The Crescentmoon Guard Pack were currently suffering from a serious plague of rogues that seemed to not want to leave them alone. Already, nearly a quarter of the Pack had already been destroyed and the Alpha was at his wits end. Despite the number of soldiers that he had stationed at every part of the Pack’s boundaries, the rogues still seemed to somehow find their way in and wreak their havoc. So elusive and careful were they that not one of them had been caught. I squealed in excitement and clapped my hands like a little kid when Zade told me that his soldiers were going to be helping Alpha George of the Crescentmoon Guard Pack and that I was going to work right beside him. Usually, he wouldn't have joined his soldiers in assisting the neighbouring Pack, but since he wanted to give me real-life training, he had to be there. The only person who was not pleased by thi

Author’s POVIt hadn't been that difficult for the Committee of Alphas specifically created for the elimination of Jemima, to be infiltrated. The problem was that every Alpha who claimed that they wanted Jemima gone was allowed to join without question. So blinded were they by their eagerness to get rid of the threat that was Jemima that it didn't occur to them that not all the Alphas or witches who wanted to join the committee were truly on their side.It was a good thing for Elena though. She couldn't join the committee but she had an Alpha whom she could trust and begged him to join so that he could act as a spy for her. Liam, Elena’s estranged older step-brother and the Alpha of the Iron Fang Pack had reasons for not wanting to have anything to do with his younger sister. The first was that she had chosen to distance herself from him long before she even got pregnant with Jemima. She explained that she did it to protect him and didn't want anyone to know that they were related

Jemima’s POVRelief flooded my heart but I told myself not to be too hopeful. Perhaps, Connor wanted to psychologically torture us this way. Giving us hope only to take it away at the next minute. There was no way he could have changed his mind. A gasp fell from my lips when the chains suddenly loosened and fell to the ground. I was free. This certainly wasn’t Connor’s doing. The door was suddenly knocked off its hinges and landed with a deafening bang on the ground. A familiar figure stepped into the room and for a moment, I went completely dumb with surprise. “I'm certain you can get up from that chair. You are no longer bound to it,” the Alpha of the Midnight Pack said, mild amusement in his tone. “Zade,” I breathed out and rose from my seat. “How are you here? Why are you here?”“Well, I drove down here,” he replied, his eyes dancing with humour.I rolled my eyes. “You know exactly what I mean? How did you know I was in danger?”“How I have missed your numerous questions,”

Jemima’s POVConnor burst out laughing. An annoyingly grating sound that made me want to rip his head off. “There’s nothing you can do no matter how much I badmouth your mother. You are practically helpless and harmless right now,” he said. “And I thought you even hated the woman so why are you bothered about me calling her names?”“Fuck you, Connor,” I replied and started to struggle against the chains.“Oh please,” he began, his tone laced with amusement, “If you keep on struggling like that I might just pity you. Stop it already.”I ignored him and kept on trying to see if my abilities would suddenly turn back on and help me get out of the silver chains.“The chains are enchanted, Jemima. And you must have noticed that your abilities do not work here. It's going to remain like that for about an hour. It's rather annoying that every spell has a time limit when it comes to you,” he explained. “But don't worry, you’ll be dead long before the spell starts to lose its potency.”Piper

Jemima’s POVA flicker of irritation passed across Connor’s features as he looked at Piper who was standing right beside me. Because of what had happened the previous night, it was now much more difficult to get her apart from me even for a couple of minutes. “You didn't say she was going to tag along with you,” the Alpha of the Silver Paw Pack began, “Discussing matters that have to do with this Pack is supposed to be private. No outsiders are allowed.”Piper scoffed but I secretly gave her side a pinch to keep her from saying anything. “I am also an outsider, Connor and you are allowing me to even take an active part in something that concerns your Pack,” I replied. He rolled his eyes. “You were born here. Besides, you were the one who chose to leave. You weren't banished.”Considering the circumstances that brought about me leaving the Pack, I was supposed to be mad at him at that moment but I chose not to. Instead, I offered him a sweet smile and said in a firm tone, “Piper has

Jemima’s POVThat night, after I had discovered that my mother only abandoned me because she wanted to protect me, I couldn't sleep. I had later placed a call to my mate to let him know that I was okay and also to tell him about the letters I found in my father’s Study. “You really should stop pacing and come to bed already,” Piper suggested, her tone laced with concern. “How do you expect me to just do that, Piper?” I queried. “For most of my life, I have hated my mother for what she did and now I am just filled with guilt.”“But you shouldn't feel guilty,” she replied, heaving herself into an upright position on the bed. “We both read those letters and it was clear that she needed you to think that she abandoned you. If you had known the truth you certainly would have gone looking for her.”An exasperated sigh fell from my lips. “I really need to find her. We can get through this together. Her life is also in danger.”“Well, you have already said that you know who you are going t

Author’s POVFor Connor, going through some humiliation rituals was necessary for a person to achieve the desired end result. Before learning about the situation and how it would affect him, the Alpha of the Silver Paw Pack had never imagined that he would ever go down on his knees in front of a woman he had formerly rejected. It was humiliating but he had to do it. He had despised her a lot when they were still mated and he had found out that she was wolfless. At least at that time, she was.Finding out just a few months after he rejected her that she wasn't actually without a wolf and was actually so powerful, would have made him regret rejecting her if not that her powers, which were from a strong ancestral bloodline, were going to lead to the end of his reign.Thankfully, he wasn't the only one who thought that uniting all the Packs as one was totally unfair as it was going to strip them of their leadership positions which would also result in losing privileges and benefits tha

Author’s POV“Mom, you know that was wholly unnecessary,” Tamar began as she helped her mother get settled on the bed. “Knowing how powerful she is, you shouldn't have provoked her like that.”Abigail gave her daughter a look. “If I didn't know any better I would have thought you were on her side instead of your mother’s.”Tamar rolled her eyes. “All I'm saying is that you should be careful when dealing with her. She is no longer the frightened girl with low self-esteem that you used to know. She’s changed.”“It means nothing,” Abigail replied stubbornly. “She can't be more powerful than thousands of us put together. And do not forget that we have the support of a few witches. When the time is right, we are going to put an end to her existence.”Tamar tried not to show how uncomfortable she was with her mother's words. It wasn't as though she was totally against bullying her step-sister, but killing her was an entirely different matter. Even though she tried to ignore it, she still

Jemima’s POVTamar was instantly by her mother’s side, murmuring words of care while Piper wrapped her arms around me. “Thank you,” she murmured. I wondered why she was thanking me. Tamar helped her mother to her feet and within seconds, they were out of the Study. Piper released me to go lock the door which they had left ajar. When she returned to where I was standing, I realized that her eyes were wide with fear. “I knew I should have come here with you,” she said. “Has it been thirty minutes since I left the room already?” I asked and she shook her head.“Your mate called and was really mad at me for not being with you. He ordered me to come to you and call him the minute I get here,” she explained and then started to dial his number. “You do not have to do that now,” I said, snatching the phone from her hand. “I am going to call him and give him an explanation.”She rolled her eyes. “You had better do that now before he starts blasting your phone with calls.”As if on cue,

Jemima’s POV“I think I would prefer to remain standing,” I replied, not daring to take my eyes off her.The last time we had a conversation alone was when I came to her to report Tamar’s betrayal. She had laughed in my face and told me that I was a good-for-nothing who didn't deserve to be mated to an Alpha. She also told me that she was certain that the Moon Goddess had somehow made a mistake. “Whatever,” Abigail said. “Whether you choose to sit or stand is none of my business.”Of course. Why wasn't I the least bit surprised? “So why exactly am I here, Abigail?” I queried. “If it's about the salvation of this Pack, Connor and I have already spoken about it.”“I also need to give you my two cents about the situation,” she replied. “As an elder of this Pack and also the soon-to-be mother-in-law of the Alpha, my opinions are of importance.”I mentally rolled my eyes wondering who the hell had made her an elder. She wasn't even qualified to be one yet. Or did being a mother to the
