Dexter's POV

True to King Kai's words, he had sent me all I needed to take on the identity of someone else. Elera was the first to see me enter the office, and from how long she stared at me, I knew she had already figured out my new identity. She was so smart that I felt that nothing could ever happen without her figuring it out a while before.

“Welcome back. I'm glad that you finally spoke with the king.” Elera said to me during the lunch hour that day. I still bore my name, but my appearance had taken on the form of a less handsome man, and I could not help but feel that it had been an intentional act from the king as a punishment for my coming to Katherine's home.

“Thank you. I took your advice, obviously. It had nearly gotten me killed, but I had managed to find my way out of it.” I said, and she smiled at me. It was the first time that I had seen her smile at anyone except Trisha, Katherine's daughter.

“Nearly gotten you killed? Tell me about that; I think I would find it in

Katherine's POV Work the next day was not very exciting for me, as I could not take my mind off the female friend that Kai had mentioned last night. In fact, I had bad dreams about it and could barely fall asleep for a stretch without jerking awake. He had slept beside me all night, and I wanted to wake him up so many times and ask who this female friend really was. I have heard about how kings kept mistresses and introduced them to each other. They often pretended that the said woman was just a friend, and before you knew what was happening, she would be with a child for the king. I didn't want to seem desperate or insecure, so I did not say anything to him about it, even though he had a mischievous smile on his face and refused to provide personal information about the friend who was coming to help us out with the case. “You look like you have seen a ghost. What's up?” Elera asked me. “Oh, hi,” I replied, nearly screaming. “Did I scare you?” She asked me with a wide grin on he

Katherine's POV “Kate, why are you asking Dexter to break up with me?” I heard Elera's cold voice from behind me and I froze. Turning around slowly, I met her cold eyes and wondered how I was going to wriggle my way out of this one without hurting either she or Dexter. “Erhmm, I was only joking with him that he did not inform me about the relationship."“Kate, she knows. I told you that she knows.” Dexter interrupted my mumblings. “And she thinks she has the right to come here and ask you to leave me? Did something happen between you two that I'm not aware of because I do not understand where the jealousy is coming from?" Kate snarled at me, making it clear that she was very upset. I would be too if I walked in on my friend, telling my man to leave me. “That is not what I meant. I didn't know that he was telling the truth about informing you that he was a hollow wolf. I was trying to look out for you as a friend; I never meant any harm.” I quickly apologized, but Elera was not ha

Katherine's POV “We need to talk, Katherine. There's something you need to know, and we have met before. Kai, take us to a secure location. I'll have to use my disguise spell since she didn't recognize me.” Claire said to me before turning her attention to Kai and asking him to take us to a safe place. “Alright,” Kai answered and pulled me close to himself, kissing the top of my head gently. “Why didn't you tell me that Claire is an older woman?” I whispered furiously at him.“And miss the chance to see what jealousy looks like on you? Not on my watch!” Kai whispered back with laughter dancing on his lips. I felt ashamed of myself for the emotional stress I had put myself through because I had thought Claire was his secret mistress. It was like he had seen through my jealousy and intentionally decided to put me through stress. He would have to pay for that. “So, what happened back at the clinic?” He asked me on our way to the safe location that they had spoken about. “Elera and

Katherine's POV“Hello?” I called out; everywhere was pitch black, and I was scared of where everyone was. One minute I was standing in the room with Claire and Kai, and the next minute, I was falling down a bottomless pit.A light flicked on in a corner, and I noticed that I was in a large room with no furniture in it. I wondered how I had gotten here in the first place.“Kai? Are you here?” I called out, hoping that this was one of Claire's pranks that she was pulling on me.“Come.” I heard a whisper, but I couldn't see anyone in the little room, no matter how hard I looked. There was not much to look at anyway, so I checked my pocket to see if my phone was there. It would be easy to contact someone if I had my phone with me, as even my handbag was nowhere in sight.“Shit.” I cursed, feeling my empty pockets, as the sense of dread began to clog my mind.“Follow the sound of my voice. I am going to lead you right through this.” I heard a familiar voice, but I could not place it.“Oka

Katherine's POV “What was that for?” I demanded as soon as I got conscious. Everything that I just witnessed wasn't real, and I had, in fact, been sitting on the sofa for several hours. It only felt like minutes, and when I looked at Kai, he had a strange look on his face. “Do you still not remember me?” Claire asked, and I turned to look at her, ready to ask her to quit playing with me. Even though she was oddly familiar, I was sure that I had never met her before. Just as I opened my mouth, I suddenly found Claire too familiar, and I remembered her as the woman who had taken the baby out of the room. “You!” I exclaimed and pointed to her, walking towards her. “Yes. I was there.” She said and closed her eyes. Immediately she did that; it was like a magnetic force holding me back from moving. “What is happening to me? Kai! What is she doing to me?” I yelled at Kai, who only stared at me. “Oh ye, witches of the night, the watcher of day and the controller of times, bring back w

Katherine's POV When I woke up again, I was back at the apartment, but I was alone. There was no one in my bedroom, and when I listened to hear if anyone was in the house, I was met with pin-drop silence. "Hello,” I moaned and tried to stand up, but it felt like I had been run over by a moving truck. The door to the bathroom opened, and Kai walked out. He was clad in a towel, and under the moonlight, he looked exceptionally gorgeous. “Hey, you are awake.” He said and hurried to my side. “Yes. What time is it?” I asked him and rubbed my sleepy eyes. This was the best sleep that I have had in years; I was totally knocked out. “It's almost midnight. We got in not long ago.” Kai said and gathered me in his arms, kissing my head gently. “Where's Trisha? Did she eat dinner?” I asked, worried that she might not have eaten anything since I was not around to make it for her. “Yes, she did eat dinner. I made her something, and she is sleeping in her room right now.” He said, massaging m

Kai's POV The events of the past few days had left me in a state of shock. I knew that Katherine was also having a hard time accepting her new reality; it was a low blow that life had dealt with her. From the moment I laid eyes on her, my assumption that she was special was correct.“Boss, the boys from Downtown are here. They have been waiting for quite a while.” Azra's voice interrupted my thoughts. “Alright. Do you have an idea of what they want?” I asked him. “I don't have full details, but I know that the shadow hunters invaded their village just last week,” Azra replied. “Send them in then,” I ordered, and he saluted before turning to leave. I had barely settled into my seat when I heard a knock on my door and knew that it was the men from downtown. “Come in,” I called out softly, and the door eased open. Two men and three women walked into my office, their eyes red and darkened. It was obvious that they had not slept well for quite a while. “Welcome. Sit down.” I said be

Katherine's POV Since I no longer had a job, all I did was watch soap operas and entertain Trisha whenever she approached me to answer a question that she had just come up with. It was exhausting, and after two days, I was so bored that I chewed off my nails as a form of entertainment. Kai has also been very busy; with the attack on downtown by the shadow hunters, he had a lot to handle, and he had not come by the apartment for two days. I could not reach out to Roma, and Elera did not want to have anything to do with me. I was still moping about how boring my life had become when a knock pulled me out of my thoughts. I got up excitedly, wondering if Kai had gotten some spare time, and decided to come over today. To be honest, I missed him terribly and was too shy to call him and request that he come over to the house. I also understood that he was busy, which was the reason for his absence, not like he was moving on with someone else. Opening the door with a lot of anticipation, a

Katherine’s POVThe sun hung low in the sky, casting a pale golden light over the training grounds. The last day of my training, and I still hadn’t seen Kai. It had been three days since I last heard from him, three long, agonizing days of silence. Each moment without a word from him gnawed at me, a dull ache that deepened with every passing hour. Where was he? Why hadn’t he come? Even Tricia has been asking of him nonstop, Roma had just been moved down to where we were and she has been the one taking care of Tricia on my behalf. I should’ve been focused on my training, but my thoughts constantly wandered back to Kai. The connection we shared, once so clear, felt distant now. I knew he had his reasons, and his responsibilities, but it didn’t make his absence any easier to bear. Every attempt to channel my inner light, my supposed gift as the Light Seeker, was met with resistance. The power inside me felt muddled, out of reach, like trying to catch water slipping through my fingers.

Kai's POVThe forest surrounding Alpha Jackson’s hideout was eerily quiet as if even the wind was holding its breath. I moved silently, the soft crunch of leaves beneath my boots the only sound. No guards, no patrols, nothing that suggested Jackson was even concerned about being found here. Bold. Or foolish. But Jackson had always been both. It was how we had become acquainted in the first place. I reached the clearing, and there it was: the old stone cottage that Azra had described, hidden deep within my kingdom’s borders. A fitting place for someone trying to hide in plain sight. I couldn’t help but smirk at the audacity of him, slipping into my kingdom without so much as a word of notice. But I wasn’t surprised. As I approached the entrance, the door swung open, and there he stood. Alpha Jackson. He looked the same, nothing had changed about him. “King Kai,” he greeted, his voice smooth and dripping with false humility. “What a pleasant surprise. I didn’t expect a visit from the

Kai's POVThings were beginning to calm down in the low towns, but, even, I could not let the worry go. I knew that the problem was not close to being over yet. I knew that much of the peace was because I had hidden Katherine away. Keeping her out of sight, away from those who might want to use her or, worse, destroy her. She was training privately with Claire, learning how to control her power as the Light Seeker, and it seemed to be working. But how long could I keep her hidden? How long before the world found out who she truly was?The thought weighed heavy on my chest as I made my way to the secluded house where Katherine was training. A part of me wanted to tell her everything, to be fully honest about the dangers swirling around us, but I knew I couldn’t. Not yet. She had enough on her plate without the burden of my fears. The air was crisp as I approached the safe house, the setting sun casting long shadows across the stone path. As I entered, I could feel the soft hum of Kat

"The light is already inside you, Katherine. You just need to let it out." Claire said as a light began to illuminate my chest and formed a circle, shining steadily with its rays shining in the room. My training with Claire had begun privately a few weeks ago. I have been putting my all into learning how to channel my light. I closed my eyes and willed my heart to beat slower as if to slow time. My purpose, My title is the Light Seeker. It had not been easy at first, but here I was doing it. Taking it one day at a time. I was beginning to feel the warmth as it spread through me. And the truth was that I had not felt so good about myself in years. Not until I discovered that. The room around me brightened, the shadows in the corners retreating as the light from within me spread across the space. I felt the same deep within me as everything started to gain clarity.Claire stepped back, a satisfied smile curling on her lips. “You’re getting the hang of it, Katherine. I knew you had it

Kai's POVThe cold steel of the balcony railing bit into my palms as I absorbed the latest news. My mind was a turbulent sea of thoughts and decisions. Every one of my instincts screamed that we were on the brink of something catastrophic. The shadow hunter attack was a stark message, and I could not afford to underestimate the threat.“Azra,” I call out, my voice cutting through the tension of the hospital morning. We had barely slept until we were sure that Roma was in stable condition. He turned to me, his expression taut with concern. “I need you to secure the citadel immediately. No one in or out until further notice.”Azra’s eyes widened slightly, but he nodded without hesitation. “I’ve already taken the liberty of informing the guards. What else do you need, my king?”I took a deep breath, my weak attempt to quell the rising sense of urgency. “We need to find the warlock. If he’s under the shadow hunters' control, he’s a crucial part of their plan. His location could lead us to

Kai's POVThe hospital balcony was usually not the place I would imagine that I was going to be tonight. The events of the last few weeks burdened my mind so heavily that I felt like there was no way out of it. But I could not afford to think like that. I wrapped my clothes tightly around myself as the cold wind blew, even at that, I could feel the heat emanating from my body. Katherine could have been seriously hurt and each day, this crazy person came close to the woman that I loved the most. The thought of what would have happened if anything had gone wrong at the prison was not something that I enjoyed thinking about so I closed my eyes and took in a deep breath to steady my head. Azra ran to the balcony, his face etched with tension. His usual calm demeanor was replaced with urgency, and it immediately set my nerves on edge. I turned to face him, keeping my face as neutral as possible. “What’s going on?” I asked; my voice was sharp and hard. “Why are you here?” I demanded. Hi

Roma's POVThe palace felt eerily silent, like the calm before a storm. My mind raced as I paced the room, glancing nervously at the door. Katherine was still at the hospital, and King Kai had asked us to return. I couldn’t shake the feeling of dread that clung to me like a second skin.Claire sat across from me, serene as ever, her fingers tracing patterns in the air. She always had this way about her, a kind of stillness that made it seem like nothing could ever shake her. But I was different. I wasn’t like Katherine or Claire, who were born with power, forged by destiny. It was just me. And right now, “me” felt helpless."Roma, relax." Claire’s voice broke through my anxious thoughts. She looked up from whatever spell or divination she was working on. "The safest place for us right now is here. In the palace."I frowned, biting my lip as I stared at her. "Are you sure? What if... what if the person hunting Katherine’s friends comes for us too?"Claire came to the window, where I sto

Katherine’s POVThe sterile white light overhead blurred as I blinked my eyes open. I struggled with the blinding lights in the room and I struggled to adjust my sight to it. I opened my eyes slowly and turned my head. Kai was seated with his elbows resting on his knees. His eyes were red and the exhaustion was quite visible. Considering the eyebags under his eyes, it looked like he hadn’t slept at all, and I could feel the weight of his worry pressing down on me, even in silence.I groaned in pain as I tried my best to sit up, but my muscles screamed in protest. Kai noticed instantly, springing to my side before I could adjust the pillow beneath me. His face softened with relief as he leaned down, his voice hoarse from what must’ve been a sleepless night.“my love, how are you feeling?" He asked me.I tried to respond, but the words wouldn’t come. I glanced to the side and saw Tricia, curled up on one of the clinic's chairs. She was asleep, snoring slightly as her chest moved up and

Kai's POVThe hospital hallway felt like it was closing in around me, each second stretched by the uncertainty of what lay behind those doors. I pushed through the waiting room, not caring that I'd been told to stay put. Katherine was in there, and that's all that mattered. "His royal Majesty, wait!" one of the nurses tried to stop me, but I brushed past her, the need to see Katherine overpowering everything. The doctor stepped in my way just as I reached her room. "Your Highness, you need to calm down," he said, his voice steady but strained. "She's stable, but you can't go in just yet. She fainted, and we're trying to""Trying to stabilize her? She fainted?" I repeated, my voice incredulous. "That's not enough. I need to see her." My pulse pounded in my ears. Katherine never fainted. She was strong—too strong for something like this. The doctor's eyes flickered with nervousness. "We're running tests, but it looks like she's just stressed. Shock, perhaps, but she's out of danger."I
