Nile’s eyes glaze over as he communicates with his comrades. Probably to take care of the Ashwalkers.

Suddenly, there’s a clicking sound and the double doors to Rowan’s chamber swings open. Cyrus’s silhouette comes into view, his clothes torn, blood smeared on his face. His eyes narrow when they fall on us. I look at his hand. He’s holding a syringe.

Cyrus huffs and turns to the guards. “Your duty was to kill them. Why aren’t they dead by now? You all don’t deserve to be the king’s guards when you can’t protect him. ” He hisses, his voice hoarse. For the first time, I don’t see a smug smile on his face.

But I am noticing something else. He’s looking past them, as if he’s expecting something. Or someone.

I shift back and speak. “Good to see you here, Cyrus.” I taunt. “I thought finding you would be a chore. But you made it easy.” I smirk.

Cyrus snaps to his men. “Capture them.”

The men raise their weapons,
