Being a veil keeper, she knew the ways of the universe. There was no way that she just found herself into all of this without a reason, be it minor or otherwise.
There had to be some connection to what she was searching for. The locator and portal couldn't be both wrong. Crouching down, she held one of the bodies by the neck and checked his upper back. “No rune symbol”, she murmured before she moved to the next. She was not going to take any chances, especially when her time was límited. Gory scenes didn't affect her as she was a shifter herself and had seen worse. Selly sighed, grateful to the universe that her mate wasn't among the dead. For what she could deduce of the situation ,there seemed to be a conflict or worse war. To think that she left her kingdom on the verge of one only to end up in another felt surreal. To go or not to?, she pondered. Well, if I don't find anything of tangible value to my mission then I would just continue searching, she thought and took off in the direction of the many footprints. Heading deeper into the forest, she found herself in what looked like a village but without… people? A moment later, the siren rang again and this time she heard it more loudly, irritating even due to her sensory sensitivity. Aah! She heard someone scream as she closed in. Plunged into the middle of an all out fight with many fallen bodies of shifters, people who either lay dead or severely injured and at least a couple dozen more fighting, her former faith wavered. This is not good, she thought. Seeing how dangerous and fatal the men were going against each other, she changed her mind. Turning to where she came from, she only took a few steps when a massive black werewolf stood in front of her, gnarling and baring its fangs at her and her stomach churned. She had heard of some few and lesser shifters existing beyond Agal but seeing one was different especially during full moons when their urges were enhanced. The bloodthirst was clear in its dark pupils and for a second she felt scared. The black werewolf didn't let her mind wander for long, he charged at her and she had no way but to protect herself. Her hand crumpled on the backpack hard as she ran for her life aiming at the far end of the building where the fight was not as intense aiming to disappear from the scene. As she got closer to the grand off-white house where men fought with everything to stop the other group from advancing, her nose picked it. The scent of her mate. Simultaneously, she felt her rune burn and she knew for a fact that she was at the right place. The werewolf who had been pursuing her seemed to have hand-picked her. At this point, it was either him or her. Her nails swiftly elongated into laser sharp claws and she assumed a defense position. The wolf attacked her with full force, seeing that she was the only one in human form and assumed she was a weaker wolf. Selly evaded his attacks and when she stopped just two steps past him, she turned to see the wolf had stopped in his tracks too. His face was too stunned to process what just happened to him. The ground beneath him was instantly painted crimson as his intestines hang loose outside of his body and with a whimper, he fell. The alpha sparingly spotted her when she fought the wolf with ease, having retained her human form and only shifted from her wrist down. A werewolf with partial shifting abilities? That was strange, he thought. But for now, his priority was to stop the intruders from getting inside where his mate was. Anything else could wait. At the moment, he couldn't just decide whether the strange young woman was a friend or foe. Who even stood by and watched people killing each other with such calmness? The scent is becoming stronger, Selly thought. By now her heart was pounding inside her ribcage like a pendulum. She didn't know what to expect as her eyes searched for him. She stood at a sideline with eyes that moved like a wiper blade while everybody else was busy clawing one another. There was a commotion behind her and she turned to see a man making his way out of the house carrying a baby wrapped in a shawl in his arm. A woman, seemingly weak, jumped at him, trying to stop him from taking the baby away but with a single forceful push her back collided with a wall, making her hold her stomach only for her hand to turn red with blood. For some reason, the scent seemed to have intensified. Was the man holding the baby…her mate? “Please, don't take him away.?” The woman pleaded with teary eyes, too wounded to move. The man smirked. Clearly too amused to see the Luna of the infamous Westhund pack begging. It was a rare sight if not impossible. That bastard seemed proud of having caused pain to the bleeding woman. Selly’s hand balled into fists and without second thoughts she went after them, the scent growing even stronger with each step. Whether he was her mate or not, that would be dealt with later. A man hitting a woman, especially one who just gave birth, deserved a lesson. At that time all she could think of was the safety of the baby. Clearly, he was trying to separate the baby from its mother and she couldn't just be a bystander anymore. Not under her watch. With clenched jaws, she muttered, “Of all men, I can't believe I am mated to a moron.” From the looks of it, he must be a rogue werewolf. This was kidnapping, she concluded The man had not noticed someone watching his exchange with the Luna, just as he turned to leave, Punch! Selly hit him square on the face so hard that he staggered backwards as the baby slipped from his arms. “Nooo!” Her scream alerted the fight-worn alpha and warriors but the opponents seized the opportunity by ganging up on him and beta Grigor, making it hard for them to leave. They were purposely buying time for their comrade to make an escape. The sooner he left with the baby the better because the fight had taken longer than they had anticipated. They, too, had underestimated Alpha Lewis’ defence. The Luna’s eyes threatened to get out of their socket. Her fragile baby was going to get badly injured or worse die. Just in time, before the baby could hit the hard floor, Selly catched him and she froze. What in the Goddess name was happening?Selly has never been so stunned in her life before today. Her hand shook and words were stuck in her throat while her eyes just stared at the furry pup.How is this even possible? She didn’t wonder for long. Her moment was cut short by the man trying to snatch the baby from her.His actions were not very appreciated as something seemed to have snapped in her and her protective instincts kicked in like never before. Her heart yearned for something, a deep desire to inflict harm on that stupid man.“The audacity. How dare you!” She said to him, her voice a mere whisper but he heard her nonetheless. The man frowned at her strange accent but ignored her. When her claws grew one again, they had a faint glow to them and she muttered something under her breath. The man, half worried and angered by her earlier stunt, did not notice that the young woman’s eyes had already turned a deeper shade of amber and were burning with something unrecognizable. As soon as he tried to pounce on her, an
The air was knocked out of her lungs. Selly’s veins constricted with blood rushing in all directions making her feel drained while she was still alive. The words he had said to her cut deeper than any other wound she had endured even in the fiercest of battles she had ever partook in. He didn't even bother to give her a chance to explain. To understand. Her hands shook as she managed to master the courage to speak with her lips vibrating against each other. “You must be joking, right?” Unconsciously drawing a long breath, she held her breath, dreading his answer but none came. “I mean you haven't even heard the whole…” “I don't need to listen to the whole story to distinguish facts from bullshit.” Jordan said. He made sure to maintain his distant and aloof demeanor as he crushed the little hope that was left in her with no regard whatsoever. “No!” Selly took a step back, creating space between them and craned her neck as she stared at his back. Panic gripped her mind
Was she going to attack him?As he braced himself and assumed his defence stance once again, Selly inched closer only to pass him by.At that moment, Jordan had a series of questions and doubts planted in his mind. As hard as he tried to figure out where she tried to escape to, he only ended up with more of them and not a single answer. Making a u-turn, she charged forward with a speed of lightning. What the fuck! There was no way she was going to do that, was she?As Selly approached the gate by a few meters, her pace tripled and with one decisive move she jumped over the tall and imposing gate.Aah! Jordan heard a piercing cry on the other side of the gate and hurried off to press a switch buried deep in an electrical box. When the gate opened, his eyes searched for a grey wolf but she was no longer in sight and then he heard it again, a girl sniffing as she sobbed. His eyes landed on a little girl who looked no more than six, hiding under a bush of flowers with a bruised knee. He
Selly took one calculated step, then another. All the while her eyes never left Aria who stood behind Dominik, hiding like a coward that she was. And yes, there was fear in those blue eyes. She could smell it from where she stood and it gave her some type of satisfaction. The scent on the intruder smelled familiar yet slightly different. Dominik wasn't sure whether he had crossed paths with the shifter before but what confused him more was how she was able to shift when it wasn't the full moon yet. The guards standing on Dominik’s sides were vigilant, not blinking once. The blonde behind him could tell that the wolf's aim was directed at her and she couldn't help but feel her knees turn weaker as seconds went by. Trickles of sweat glided from her upper body and her face glistened with small albeit noticeable droplets. Why was this rogue staring at her with so much HATE?Selly snarled and took a third step before she charged forward.Dominik managed to block his mate, who was now an
She bit him.She did not hesitate and went right in the flesh between his neck and shoulder, applying lethal force. He could feel her every emotion with every inch of her fangs as they dug in deeper in him.He struggled to set himself free to no avail then he felt it, a fresh wave of pain and heat started to spread from his neck to every part of his body.He could tell that his strength was leaving him faster than he had ever experienced before. He could no longer fight back as his arm and legs went limp but the heat only increased. His whole body felt like it was on fire.Aria's eyes threatened to pop out as she witnessed it all.How could one shewolf manage to take down a strong man such as Jordan with so much ease?Jordan’s legs started to morph into something. His hair was growing and… She covered her mouth with her palm. Jordan was shifting.Selly, who was clouded by anger didn't even notice nor feel her rune as its glow kept getting bigger. She continued to hold tight onto hi
Alpha Lewis eyebrows knitted but he didn't say a word.Luna Colette quickly wiped her tears. Being a Luna of one of the strongest packs in Petroit, she was used to not showing any kind of vulnerability in front of spectators but today she knew that she had to pull in the strength from deeper within than she had ever had for her facade not to crumble. Her son being in an unknown state and the other badly wounded had shaken her to the very core of her being. Even the day that little Jordan was almost kidnapped paled against today's incident. At the thought of that fateful day, her mind remembered something important that had somehow gone forgotten amidst the chaos since she set her eyes on an injured Dominik.Where was Selly? The girl had always managed to calm Jordan's wolf with ease when he was little.A thought came, to call her but the situation wasn't feasible. She glanced at her mate but Lewis’ face showed no emotions whatsoever. His face was stoic as everybody was used to seeing
A couple of minutes later, a small crowd formed around Selly, with some people taking selfies and uploading them on their social media accounts. Some just engaged in small talk regarding the whole ordeal.Selly, unaware of what was going around her, continued to be in a deep slumber until the animal welfare unit arrived.“Make way please.” One of the officers asked the mass to pave the way.“Finally. We found her.” The officer who held the rifle commented, taking note of her being female.“She looks even bigger up close.” Another chimed in.Soon, Selly was placed on a stretcher by the officers and loaded into the vehicle before they left, leaving murmurs and hot gossip behind.Meanwhile, at Dominik house, things got busy. Now some few neighbors stood outside the gate witnessing Dominik being placed inside an ambulance while the officers barricaded the area.Luna Collette and Aria accompanied him together with two officers, leaving Alpha Lewis talking to the police officers alone. The
When Marc cut open the wound that was starting to close shut, Dominik grunted. The two opposing pains, one from muscle pulling together to close it shut and the other tearing them apart were too much, the silver made it even more unbearable.Marc didn't flinch as he picked the bullet extractor and started working his way, turning and twisting until he got hold of the tiny metal buried deep in Dominik’s flesh and pulled it out.Dominik sighed in relief, the presence of silver in his body felt like he was being set on fire while he was still alive. Now without it inside, there was an instant and sudden decline on the pain level.Dropping the silver on a small metal tray, Marc cleaned the wound, disinfected it once again and let it be. The son of his Alpha would have to bear with it as soon, it will close up due to the absence of silver.Turning to the gash on his thigh, Marc hesitated a little. The bone was no longer visible but it was the fading white glow that made him wonder whether
Selly has never felt vulnerable like she did that day. People touching her, petting her. Not one body part was spared as they took whatever measures and samples they needed for their lab test. It was beyond disrespect and all she could was watch as it all unfolded. To them, she was a new kind of wolf that they were now experimenting with. From their conversation, she concluded that she has become famous overnight. A lone tear fell from her sad eyes while the broken pieces of her now weak heart continued to multiply. If only she could turn back time, she thought, she would never reveal her identity as Jordan's mate. She would silently go back to Erichon and forget about ever having had a mate. She would face her fate head on and marry the king of Horizenia. The kind of things she would have to go through once they confirmed that she really wasn't just a wolf terrified her. She had seen way too many documentaries to understand that being a guinea pig was no joke. I have to lea
Hesitant, her head peeked through the door flashing him a wide smile.Dominik rolled his eyes in his mind.“It is this troublemaker again.” He muttered. Why did she have to visit now? With eyes that never stayed in one place every few seconds, it didn't take long for her to spot him and strode towards him.Alpha Valery and Aria stopped, their attention clearly drawn to the girl.None of them knew who she was.“Hi.” She waved. It was obvious that she didn't grasp the tension in the room or maybe she just didn't care.Valery turned to look at Dominik. He looked stiff as though he was caught doing something bad.Her unplanned visit was going to give him problems later, Dominik thought.“Seems like you have a new…visitor?” He stated suggestively. “Aria, if you will.”Aria glanced at the girl and without a word, stomped out of the door followed by her father.Dominik didn't object this time. The last thing he wanted was to create a scene in front of the girl.He had hoped for a hug or go
“Baby?” Luna Collette called, “wake up.”Jordan responded to neither sound nor touch.“Mama needs you.” She sniffed.Alpha Lewis caressed him, something about his son's wolf rubbed him differently.Something just felt a little off, he thought. He admitted though, his son surpassed him in size, with a fur coat as dark as a moonless night with no speckle of dust, he would definitely be the envy of many. As for strength, he didn't have much to say, they have never fought one to one.Glancing to the heavens, “My Goddess, please have mercy on my son.” he prayed quietly. If Jordan made it, the two would have a duel, Lewis made himself a promise. Now that he thought about it he had never interacted much with the adult Jordan. His son preferred his own company. He knew the reasons.Lewis did try to get close to him, create a father-son bond but his attempts were alway swatted by Jordan. The two couples stayed in Jordan's cell, not once leaving his side.Beta Grigor stood at the top stairs
Selly grew even more restless. They were going to shoot her, again. When the consciousness had started to return to her, she heard them discussing her being a different type of wolf. In a nutshell, she couldn't just shift to her human form. At least not in front of them. She had shifted once and it had caused her the death of Jordan. She had hurt the innocent guard who was just doing his job and Dominik had not been spared. She was remorseful for the things she had done in a fit of rage and she wasn't going to make the same mistake. All she wanted was to break free and run away, it wasn't like she would stay in her wolf form forever, she thought. The scratches continued, the indentation increasing with each time. “What's going on here?” The head of the facility made his way to where Selly was locked in. “Sir, the wolf won't stop causing trouble.” The one with the rifle said. “And you think watching her continue damaging the facility properties is the wise choice? ”
Alpha Lewis struggled to remain calm. He wanted to shout out and set his contained anger free. The desire to go feral was evident in his bloodshot eye. For his mate, son and soon to be daughter in law, he swallowed a curse to whoever was playing with his mind.Who the fuck was messing with his family? he thought.“How is the situation?” He demanded after collecting his thoughts.“Bad, Alpha. The hackers are trying to pull out our phone voice records. Our team is doing its best to eliminate the threat therefore. It is better if we all adhere to code 009 until further notice.”Fuck! Alpha Lewis cursed in his mind. He could tell Ron was trembling as he relayed the message which translated to one thing and one thing only - the situation was worse. It all seemed like he wasn't going to have a peace of mind for a while. Adhering to the code meant that they couldn't communicate like they normally do regarding pack matters. They could either communicate through word of mouth or coded messages
At Marc's words, the room's chatter came to a sudden halt with each one processing the new information on their own.A hybrid! No one had ventured into that type of possibility yet and it was for a good reason too. A werewolf hybrid was the rarest thing to ever happen in the world of shifters, let alone the shifters living in the human world. And even if it did happen, the hybrid wouldn't survive the first shifting phase due to physiological discrepancies affecting their make.A fraction of rare cases ever recorded were those about young hybrids and not fully grown ones. They simply didn't exist. Marc carefully suggested, “Selly is a werewolf with partial shifting abilities which , in my opinion, is also a rare occurrence…”“Do you really think,” Luna Colette said, “she could be the rogue?”“It's only a theory, Luna.”“She would never.” Luna Collette defended Selly.Even if the situation was hard to decipher and she was grieving, she wasn't a mad woman to easily blame others, specif
Luna Collette sighed. “Her phone was found inside Jordan's room while she is nowhere to be found.”Dominik scratched the back of his head, a gesture that was common to him whenever he was frustrated. Where could she have disappeared off to? He thought. They were all preparing for the birthday party, it didn't make any sense for her to have just left. As far as he could remember, Selly had never missed a single birthday since she came into their lives.Did someone kidnap her? Or worse did the rogue attack her first before she did everybody else? “It seems like there is more to this than we initially thought.” He said.“Dominik,” Alpha Lewis addressed his son, his face turning to that of concern, “your brother, did he say anything?”With a thoughtful look he said, “He looked tired and worn out like he had been running for a long time or had been in a fight.”When Dominik had regained consciousness and found Jordan holding him, the navy blue fabric they had agreed to match on their bir
Selly turned slightly. She could pick up some voices. They were unclear and felt distant to her. It was like someone was whispering to the wind.Over time, her consciousness started to slowly return but for some reason she couldn't lift her eyelids. It felt like someone had glued her eyes shut. It felt lonely. She wanted to lift her hand and wave to whoever was close by and ask for help but her own body betrayed her and refused to budge. She felt heavy which frustrated her.She wanted to cover her ears because somehow the voices were getting louder and louder but that as well was far from her reach. What had happened to her, she thought. The last thing she remembered before all this weird situation she found herself in was that of Jordan's limp body. The realization hit her like a massive ocean wave and the floodgates to what had transpired opened once again throwing her back to the pain she had been spared for the last few hours that she was unconscious. All she could feel was the g
