The calm breeze swept my hair across my face, joyfully disarraying it. I brushed it back and glanced at the ferns surrounding the extreme path of the field.

That is the path that I have chosen to work, away from the prying and mocking eyes of the Beta.

Melsa hobbled up beside me and grimaced.

“I don’t feel too good,” she muttered. I nodded understanding her plight, and struck her hair gently. Melsa is my elder sister, she’s 21 yet she doesn’t have a mate. But, aren’t her circumstances better than mine? Isn’t it better to be without a mate than to be rejected by yours?

I felt the burning sensation again and knew that the Beta was close by.

“The Beta is coming,” Melsa whispered, confirming my suspicion. Melsa slipped away to the spot she came from. I held my head down, eluding the stab of his shadow. I heard his husky voice call my name twice but I didn’t budge, I just couldn’t move my body, I felt paralyzed in depression and anger.

“Elena!” It pierced into my eardrum and I finally gave in, hiding my face would make me weak.

I lifted my head and faced my ex-mate. When our eyes met, his volatile nature seemed to evaporate, his full blossomed lips grew pale and his hands tightened around the handle of the sword in his hand, his other hand folded into a fist till his knuckles turned white. Everyone froze and all eyes were directed towards us.

“Beta Nathan,” I called, he darted his lashes and woke from the trance he was in.

“Come with me!” He ordered, his old self sprang back again. “The both of you,” he added, staring at Melsa. We staggered to our feet, glancing at each other in confusion.

“What are you all looking at? Get your lazy ass back to work!” He thundered and everyone scrambled to their work. He signaled for us to follow him and we obeyed without hesitation, we strode out of the field and he turned, his stone-cold eyes glared daggers at us.

“Gossiping around while work is on, is that how lazy you are?” He snapped. We glanced at each other and remained mute. He snickered and waved at a guard, "They will pick blueberries for a week, it starts today.” A wave of dismay spread across our faces as we gasped and fell on our knees, taking turns to plead for pardon, but he only grunted in contempt and trudged away.

When we got to the blueberry bush, three Gamma girls were instructed to watch over us and make sure we did a clean picking. The first one looked older than the rest, her tangled auburn hair was packed into a ponytail and her long lashes prevented the set of startling round jade orbs from flaunting their immersing beauty.

The second girl was a chubby and cheeky fellow. Her big black eyes seemed to dilate whenever she yelled an instruction, and when her nose flared up in annoyance it caused a flow of crimson to spread across her face and neck.

The third girl was a lean blond-haired girl, she always took pleasure in watching her victims suffer in pain.

“Get on with it rejected slut!” The blonde girl shoved me roughly, I growled as her words stung me. Oregon wanted to pounce out and leap out her anger on the girl, but I refrained her.

“She is growling,” the chubby girl mocked, the two girls laughed but the jade-eyed girl remained quiet.

“Don’t listen to them, they’re fools,” Melissa whispered.

“What are you whispering about, huh?” The chubby girl asked. Melsa rolled her eyes at her and hissed. The girl gasped and sent a slap across Melsa’s face. This got Oregon springing out, she pounced on the girl and they landed on the ground. Oregon gnashed her fangs at her, ready to make her uglier with it.

A hard blow struck my head followed by a slash. I fell and my back burned as liquid socked my dress.

Melsa’s scream pierced into my eardrums and I groaned as the pain from the slash burned my back. My face kissed the dirty dust and blood gushed freely from my back.

When I opened my eyes slightly, I saw Melsa struggling with the girls while the other girl stood at a distance, smirking.

The chubby girl shoved Melsa’s lustrous hair into her hands and the blonde girl slapped her across the face. Melsa’s face reddened and her veins popped out of her forehead.

I wanted to get up and help my sister but my back throbbed in pain, my spirit was willing but my body was weak. I wished the other girl would help Melsa but she didn’t, she stood blank, neither helping her friends nor my sister.

I felt weak, blood soaked my back, and gummed my dress.

My lips trembled as my vision became blurred. The walls of gravity took their toll as I felt myself falling deeper into a dark unfathomable abyss. The voices around began whirling away in rhythm. I smiled coyly, a smile of happiness in death. Beta Nathan would be well pleased, he would admonish that he was right after all, I cannot stand the rejection, I will not survive it, and he was right, I was giving up, not in a suicidal way but in a justifiable way, in a way that will not bring his scowling face to my faded fate.

“Stop that!” A male voice shot through my panel of consciousness. The aura of the voice radiated light into my fading soul and shot me out of the abyss I was drowning into. I groaned slightly and looked at the people that I had almost left. The girls looked at the intruder, their eyes widened like saucers, and and their lips parted as they fearfully pulled away from Melsa, the three girls gathered together and bowed, Melsa also staggered to her feet and bowed. There is only one person that could extract such a reaction from them, it must be the Beta. Even though I needed help I wished it wasn’t him. I lay on my side and peeked at him.

My eyes widened as I saw the person that I least expected, the world seemed to revolve around and my heart gave several leaps as I stared into the eyeball of the Alpha.

A gasp left my lips as I stared into his dark eyes, he swerved his head to the shivering girls kneeling before him then back to me. His eyes held contact with mine for a silent moment before they moved to my back.“They did this to you?” he creased his brows as he examined my gory back.“Yes, Alpha,” Melsa quickly nodded. The grief from the slash returned and I inhaled. I am certain that it was a silver blade, I do wonder if I will ever heal. My flawless skin has always been a center of attraction in the pack, I guess the girls must have been jealous.“Why do you carry silver blades around knowing how dangerous it is ?” He frowned at the girls. They stammered and exchanged frightful glances.“Do you know how dangerous the step you took is?”His voice sounded distant yet clear. I glanced up at him again, his piercing dark eyes stared intently at me as he shoved his hands into his pant pocket.“Xander, I…” My heartbeat rang with intense speed as Nathan came into the gathering. His sente

A dark sinister smile spread across the Alpha’s face and his hands released the reins. He hopped down from the horse and strode to the spot where I was standing.“Then…” His hands slowly reached for mine. “Will you be my Luna?” He whispered.I smiled lightly and nodded, “Yes.”Nathan looked like he would give up the ghost at any moment, his eyeballs became large and bloodshot, his hands became pale and his knuckles turned white. Alpha Xander faced my parents and they bowed, each having a smear of fright on their faces.“I have chosen your daughter to be my Luna, I hope you have no problem with it?” His eyes shot up in mischief as he asked. My parents cannot oppose the decision of the Alpha, no one can.“But…” My father trailed and swallowed hard as he glanced at me in confusion.“But?” Xander arched his brows.“We accept her decision,” my mother cut in. Melsa gasped and Areola winced in tears. Alpha Xander ignored their reactions and faced me, stretching out his palm.“Let’s go, my lo

“What?” I muttered, sure that I didn’t hear him say the words right.“I want you back, Elena, I will everything to make it right,” he quavered. My lips parted and pressed themselves together in shock. He wants me back after rejecting me?“Elena please, leave the Alpha and come back to me. We’ll run away, we’ll go far away from here, we’ll create a pack, a pack stronger than the Dark Moon pack.”“No one will be able to stop us, not even Xander,” he spilled despicable words and advanced to hold my cold hands.“Get out!” I snapped and slapped his hands away.I can’t believe what he is saying, how can he want me back after everything he had done to me?Did someone make him do this? Could this be jealousy?“Elena…”“What do you take me for?” I cut him off. “A fool?” He shook his head vigorously, his grey eyes dilating in culpability.“I love you, Elena, I never realized it until the Alpha took you away,” he stated. He is right, the Alpha has taken me away from him. “Did- did he say that about me?” I stuttered. She nodded and shifted away from me “Can- can I see him?” I asked. I wish she could say yes, I want to know why he acted that way earlier. “He’s in a meeting with the elders,” she said and my face fell in disappointment. “How about you take a rest, I’ll set up a dinner between the two of you,” she said and darted a sweet contagious smile at me. My hope was revived when she spilled those words. “I’ll see you later, Elena,” she cupped my cheeks and rubbed it fondly before strolling out. “Luna Violetta is the nicest person I’ve ever come across,” Glacia commented when she found me still staring at the closed door. I smiled lightly and slumped into the bed. Sometimes, life could be a game of cards, who would have imagined that a day would come when I would be the Luna, who would have thought that Nathan would come back pleading to be accepted into my life again? Well, I can’t wait to see the Alpha tonight, and neither can I wait to w

I felt like evaporating out of the face of the earth as I stood rigid in shock. My eyes were glistening in tears as they fixed themselves on the decorated table. My face was flushed in embarrassment, my blood boiled in anger and my heart was shattered in regret and grief. The once attractive garden lost its taste, to me, it became a barren garden that will keep springing out unwanted memories to hunt me for the rest of my life. A warm hand clasped around my cold slumped shoulder. I inhaled sharply and slowly turned. Nathan’s pale face became paler when he stared into my rheumy eyes. “Why, why did he do this to me?” I found myself whispering to him, I noticed my voice was quivering as I spoke. He shook his head and slid his hands down from my shoulder, it moved to my cheeks and cupped it. “I- I told you, didn’t I?” he stuttered, staring deep into my eyes. Anger suddenly replaced the bitterness hanging in my chest, I slapped away his hands and stepped farther from him. “You knew

~Nathan~Xander’s broad back leaned leisurely on the wall, his legs were crossed and his head tilted upwards in total nonchalance. My gaze left his posture and landed on Elena’s peaceful face. Streaks of tears were still evident on her cheeks and her eyes held large dark circles under them. Xander had brought her back to the castle earlier, unconscious. The Pack's healer has come and gone, assuring and reassuring us that she will be okay. “She experienced a major shock,” Levanda's voice came echoing into my head. Major shock? Did Elena see something in that restricted part of the Pack? I wonder what happened to her and where she had gone to. I hate myself for listening to her last night, I should have followed her even against her wish. Perhaps, if it be I had enough sense earlier I wouldn’t have let her fall into the snare of the Alpha. Talking of the Alpha, I swerved my head in Xander’s direction and found his piercing eyes on me. His eyes seemed to pene

I smiled in satisfaction when Nathan backed away in shock.“What do you have to say about that, Nathan?” I swerved around and trod back to the window.“I…I…it’s not possible!” He stuttered, sighing loudly.“Do you want to see it yourself then?” I asked, not looking at him.“Well…that won’t solve the problem,” he replied and I turned sharply.“Really?” I arched my brows in anger and I saw his muscles tense under the brown jacket.Silence broke out between us as we stood staring at each other, I in authority and he, in confusion.“Can you ever betray me?” my voice pierced through the veil of silence between us and he looked into my eyes. He parted his lips to reply but shut them again and looked away.“No, why will I?” he said, staring at the plain wall. Why will he?Nathan has been my best friend since childhood, I have always known that he will be my Beta. He is the only one I have ever trusted since our paths crossed.Nathan is the last person who will think of betraying m

Glacia nudged me slightly and I peeked at her, grumbling loudly. “It’s time, you get up, my lady,” Glacia mused. I sighed and got down from the bed. Ever since I woke up, I have been lying in bed wondering what that monster is. How can a monster be the Dark Moon Pack? How come the Alpha doesn’t know about this beast? But then, the Alpha was the one who saved me, does that mean that he killed the beast? Or did the beast escape before his arrival, how did he know that I was there, how did he know that I needed help? He can’t be feeling the mate bond because he’s not my mate. “My lady?” Glacia’s voice pierced through my thoughts and snapped me back to reality. I sighed and sat up. If there’s someone who has the answer to these perturbing questions, it is the Alpha and I must extract the answers from him. “Would you like to eat something before taking a shower?” Glacia leaned closer as she asked. “I will …” she stopped talking and tilted her head in surprise her eyes fixed on m

~Elena(Louisa)~ It was hard trying to convince Kayla and my foster parents to let me go, though they had no other choice but to heed my request. I was told that I was found floating on the shore of a beach the day they found me. They took me to the hospital and had me saved but when I woke up, I couldn’t remember anything about myself, not even my name. My foster parents, who had lost their daughter a month before they found me, took me in and named me after her, Louisa Neville. I was given the nickname ‘Luna’ because they thought I had a peculiar scent that didn’t belong to the human race. It was hard being who I wasn’t and leaving who I was but somehow, the cruel fate that separated Xander and I eight years ago was able to bring us back together, this time in a different way, in the best way. I wasn’t a contract Luna, nor Nathan’s mate. I was Alpha Xander’s true Luna, his fated mate. And this time around, nothing will be able to separate me and Xander. “Are you

~Xander~ I touched her pale face, tracing her chin with my fingers slowly. She stirred and fluttered her lashes, groaning loudly as her hand flew to her forehead. “Elena?” I called out even if she might decline to be Elena like she did the first time we met. Her eyes snapped open and she sat up on the bed. She glanced around the room and her eyes fell on her parents and sisters. "Mother, father," she gasped out and my brows snapped up in surprise. They gasped out and wrapped their hands around her. "I missed you so much, sister," Areola sobbed and hugged her. Melsa walked closer to Elena and rubbed her cheeks. "You are alive?" she muttered with tears glistening in her eyes. I watched Elena nod her head before burying her head on her shoulder. Elena's father glanced at me and gestured for the others to leave the room with him. I was the last person her eyes fell on and when it did, it widened in shock. “Xander,” the sound of my name from her mouth made me raise my

~Louisa~ My lips parted, and I let out a scream that got Kayla running into my room. My door burst open, and I clenched unto Kayla, who rushed to me. “Wolf, wolf!” I exclaimed, pointing at the spot I found it earlier but to my surprise, there was nothing there. Was the wolf gone, or was I hallucinating? “There is nothing there,” Lisa’s annoying voice spoke up. “Tell me what happened, honey, calm down,” Kayla muttered, rubbing my back soothingly. I took in a deep breath and started my explanation. “I saw a wolf, a huge black wolf, standing right there,” I pointed at the spot again. Lisa chuckled in disbelief. I narrowed my eyes at her and faced Kayla. “You need to believe me, Kay, it was standing right there, staring at me with golden eyes. It must have run into the woods when I screamed, I saw it!” I screamed out. My heart sank when I saw the look on Kayla’s face. She doesn’t believe me too, she thought I was making it all up. “I’m not making it up,” I whispered

~Louisa~ The shrill ringtone of my phone got me groaning as I forcefully snapped my eyes open and reached out for my phone, which had been ringing for half an hour. I gasped out loudly as my mom’s name flashed across the screen. “Hello, mummy,” I muttered, sitting up on the bed. “What took you so long to answer your phone, huh? I’ve been calling for hours; I thought something bad had happened to my sweet baby. You got us all so worried that I thought I would die of heartache. Isn’t the place nice? Do you want to switch—” “Mom, I’m fine!” I snapped, making her stop her endless talk. I heard her sigh in relief. “Why didn’t you pick up your calls? We called for hours.” “I was asleep, and besides, it’s not even up to an hour since I fell asleep,” I replied, narrowing my eyes at the exaggeration she was making. “Whatever, whatever, tell me how that place is, hmm? Do you like it?” “Well…” This is my chance to get away from the weird surroundings that no one loves to come

~Louisa~ I pushed Jason away and when I spun around, the stranger was gone. I faced Jason, filled with anger. “Are you crazy?” “Luna—” “I don’t like you!” My outburst made Kayla cringe back in shock. Jason’s lips parted and slammed together. I sighed out, trying to calm down after what he had done. “I’m sorry, Jason, I understand how you feel about me, but I don’t feel the same way for you,” I confessed. Kayla walked up to us and tried to talk me out of what I was saying but I shooed her out, standing on my words. “I don’t love you, Jason. You should find someone who does.” My heart shrank in guilt as disappointment and pain laced across his face. “Thank you for telling me the truth, Louisa,” he replied and walked away, not sparing a glance. Though I was filled with guilt for hurting him I was glad that I told him the truth before his feelings got deeper. I felt like a burden had been taken out of my heart. ~Louisa~ “Brandon?” I scoffed and turned to take another path but he drew me back, clenching unto my arm. “Hey, let me go!” I yelled. “I have missed you, Luna; let’s get back together again; I promise to be a good boy,” he said, mischief twinkling in his dark eyes. I scowled at him, certain that there was no single ounce of repentance in him. When he didn’t relent to my warnings, I splashed the brandy on his face. The liquid got into his eyes and stung him greatly, forcing him to release me. “You scumbag, don’t you dare show up in front of me again,” I snapped at him and sent my feet into his groin. He cursed loudly and dropped to the ground, his face wrinkling in pain. “That’s for showing your disgusting face in front of me,” I muttered and blessed him with an eye-rolling slap, making him spit out blood. “And that’s for saying shit.” I grabbed a bottle of liquor and cups and went down to the place I had left Nat. As expected, she was waiting patiently for me. “

~Xander~ I stood by the window, watching the cars that drove in and out of the large gate of the castle. “Dear,” Mother’s voice piped behind me, and I shifted my attention away from the bustling activities below the castle. “Are you still drinking?” Mom asked and I glanced at the bottle of liquor on the table. “You don’t have to worry about me, Mother; I am fine,” I muttered, cupping her cheeks. She sighed and rubbed my hairy arm. “The elders are waiting for you in the throne room. It’s been eight years, and you’re yet to find a Luna for the people. Besides, we need an heir, too. Everyone is worried,” Mother muttered, and the smile on my face disappeared. I narrowed my eyes and pulled my wardrobe open then picked out a shirt. “I will wait for Elena to return.” Mother sighed at the words she had been hearing for the past eight years. “No one survives in that water, you said it yourself. She must be dead, she—” “I am leaving for the meeting,” I cut her off, slipping on the sh

~Louisa~ “One, two, three, go!” We chorused and poured the shots of liquor down our throats. “Oh shit! An architect student will never understand,” I replied, narrowing my eyes at her. They all bur
