Rune’s pov

Everything was happening so fast.

Lyra ran out of the house, I could not follow her as the tracking spell had worn off and all I had was following her in my astral form.

She seemed scared and the reason soon presented itself.

Not quite long after she zoomed off, a convoy of three trucks drove in, bearing several weapons.

I identified some rogues and wanted criminals in their company.

I moved closer to identify as many as I could till a wizard sensed my presence.

"Etherea dissolvimus, forma astralis, absolve!"

That was the last thing I could remember hearing.

The spell hit my face before I could even react and I was flying back to my body.

Like lightning, I was back in my own body.

It took a while to get comfortable in my skin, but when I did, I wasted no time relaying my reports.

“She's in danger, she's being tracked by rouges, and I barely escaped being hit with a spell…”  I uttered before I noticed the effect that report had on him.

But my attention was drawn back by the weird taste on my tongue

It was blood.

I tasted blood, but from where?

I felt my face and discovered the cut.

Placing my hands on the affected area, with my fingers gently curled around it. I chanted

"Corpus sanum, astralis vulnus, sana et restaura!" (Heal the body, astral wound, restore and renew)

A soothing white light emanated from my hands, enveloping my whole face.

I continued, "I channel the healing energy of the astral realm, restoring my physical form to wholeness and vitality.”

The light died down revealing a neat clean face.

“That boy is going to pay, he most definitely will,” I screeched angrily.

“It's been a while but here goes nothing”

Holding my hand out with my palm facing upwards like I was inviting something to descend into my hands.

"Liber sapiencium, veni ad me, scientia et potestas revelentur!" (Book of wisdom, come to me, reveal knowledge and power!)

I then, made a gentle, sweeping motion with my finger, as if tracing the outline of a book.

A soft, pulsing light appeared before me, taking the shape of a book. It was my Grimoire.

The light coalesced into a leather-bound tome, adorned with intricate symbols and markings that shimmered in the dim light of the room

The grimoire's cover opens, revealing pages filled with ancient knowledge, mystical diagrams, and forbidden secrets.

Don't get me wrong. Magic is highly forbidden for werewolves. I was exiled by my pack but thanks to Alpha Xavier who picked me up and welcomed me to his pack. I owe him my life.

Back to my story.

The rustling pages released a whispery sigh as if the grimoire had been waiting for me to unlock its secrets.

“I know," I said to the grimoire, “it's been a while and I missed you too, come here.”

The book's weight settled in my hands, heavy with knowledge and power.

If there was anything I was pissed at, it would be how I was sent back to my body.

No one saw what happened but it seemed like everyone knew.

You know that feeling when you get back home to a torn pant and you've been up and about all day without knowing, only to discover that you might have shown everyone your underwear?

Yeah, I had that feeling too.

Or when you miss your step and it feels like everyone saw how clumsy you were where but no one saw you.

I was pissed at myself and embarrassed at the same time. It was a mess.

“You're bleeding,” Xavier said, as he bent over to hand me a wipe to clean my face.

I took the wipes and coughed out the blood which had trickled down to my lips.

I muttered a weak thank you and walked towards the mirror to inspect my face.

“What did you say about her being in danger?” Xavier inquired.

“Rogues!”  I  responded, “Something about her mother calling them on her and informing her she was a lone wolf,”

It was a thing to hear this story and another to be a witness to it.

It was Impossible to believe and if all this happens to be a staged act I'd gladly believe it to be true.

“Imagine all the shit she's been through within the past twenty-four hours, if you ask me, it can't be compared to what you've gone through in the past decade,” I said with a little laugh.

The room became tense. I don't know if it was because of what I said, but I could cut the air with a butter knife.

I skeptically fixed my gaze on Xavier and said “I'm sorry your Highness, I don't mean it rudely."

"What then are we going to do," Xavier uttered, ignoring my apology.

“I was absolved before I could do anything talk more of following her,” I said.

“Can't you cast the tracking spell again?” Xavier asked again.

I looked into his eyes and saw how important this was to him but I couldn't understand why.

“codex umbra, a little help?” I asked my grimoire

The pages flipped back and forth continuously for what seemed like ages before settling on a page.

I read through it and sighed.

“I can, but it'll just stop at the barrier at her house, I can only get there physically and even that won't be enough as I have no idea where she might be as we speak,”

“Rune!” Xavier called, “put me on the phone with Luca,” He added with an authoritative tone.

I hesitated for a while. I needed to be sure he said what I thought I heard.

“You're not thinking…” I said but he cut me halfway.

“Did I stutter? That young lady has been through a lot and enough already!”

“As you command,” I said softly.

I got to my phone and failed his brother, Luca's number.

The phone rang for a while before it got answered.

“Xavier of the Darkmoon pack demands an audience with Luca of the Darkmoon pack,” I declared to whoever picked up the call.

I handed him the phone and walked back to my grimoire.

I had a score to settle and he appeared to have no time as he immediately got straight  to his point

“There's a lady I need you to save and fast, she's in danger. Do this and bring her back to the pack. She's one of us from now henceforth,” he said.

He put the phone down and looked around anxiously.

He was in luck as I had a solution already

“There are spells alright, but I don't trust my capacity to cast them. There's only one and I'll need your blood," I stuttered.

“What for?” he asked immediately and that was the exact question I was expecting from him.

“I was browsing through for spells when I came across this,” I beckoned on him to come closer to the floating grimoire

“It would have been impossible to carry out until you called your brother for help and viola!” I said, showing him the spell.

“I do not follow,” he responded, confusion laced all over his face.

I slapped my head in disappointment and sighed.

“You sent your pack to scout the area, right?”

“Yeah,”

“Your brother included?”

“Yesss?”

“Great!, I'd see through his eyes, and probably plant thoughts in his mind to help in finding Lyra…”

“Lyra?” Xavier asked cutting me off mid-speech.

“Oh that's her name,” I said waving my hands as though I was waving the introductions for later.

Gesticulating was kinda my thing as I get to do it a lot when casting or learning spells.

“I am not certain how this would work as it is not a tracking spell per se,” I continued.

He turned with a disappointed look.

“But it's worth a try,” he shrugged.

“Great, give me your right Index finger,” I said to him and he did as I had instructed.

I took his hand, wiped it clean, and made a cut, instructing him to put some drops of it on my forehead.

"Oculus mentem, sanguis vinculum, vide et influere!" (Eye of mind, blood bond, see and influence!)

I held my hands in a cupped position, as though I was cradling an egg.  I made a subtle, sweeping motion with my finger, as though I was tracing a path.

"I forge a bond of understanding, seeing through the eyes of another. May Luca and I become temporarily bound,” I cast my spell but nothing happened.

I was devastated and turned to look at Xavier who was looking back at me strangely.

“A third eye,” He stuttered.

“A third eye?” I responded, “Where?”

“On your forehead.” He said, gently walking back.

“Oh my God it wor…”

I was caught up in a trance-like state before I could finish my statement.

I could see everything.

Luca had just arrived at that same building which I recognised as Lyra's home.

“Wow…Lyra?. Lyra is the lone wolf and the wolf who needs rescuing,” Luca said with a burst of mocking laughter.

“Let's get this over with,” he said to his men who had shifted to a wolf and had picked up a scent already.

I placed the direction she ran in his mind and he went that way.

The others followed suit.

He was fast, and keeping a hold on his mind was chaotic but I held on.

A cry hit my ears, it was Lyra's. I placed the thought in his mind.

“This way!” Luca ordered. “I think I heard something”

There she was, sprawled on the floor with that same wizard.

He was casting another spell and held his hand in a claw-like position, gathering energy, and was about to release it.

I knew immediately what that spell was and how deadly, and painful it could be.

"Fluxus electricus, ignis internus, stupor et ardor!" (Electric flow, inner fire, numbness, and burning!)

“Enough, she's coming with us!” Luca hollered and turned to his men.

 “Bring her along!” he added.

“Well this is awkward, why will my brother send my men on a mission to save a lone wolf?” Luca said, looking at Lyra who was lying motionless on the ground.

They were swift and did as they were told.

I was about to leave when I deemed Lyra safe and sound but I couldn't just let that wizard go.

Fun fact, the same wizard that did that to her was the same one who blasted me.

He was going to pay and I was going to do that with a single thought.

“Let him stay behind a little longer,” I whispered in Luca's mind

“You'd be here a little longer Franz,” Luca said. “And break this mind link, you're driving me crazy!” he added on noticing that someone was mind controlling him.

I slipped out of Luca's mind and informed Xavier of the situation at hand.

“I have something to deal with,” I said and teleported to the woods where the wizard was.

“Franz is it?” I said with a sly smirk.

He was startled to see me.

“No time for long talks, this would teach you to be more careful with whom you deal with,” I added.

“Who are y-”

"Fulmen eximius, mortalis ictus, vanios te!" (Exceptional lightning, deadly strike, Vanish!)

Luca’s POV“This had better not be a prank!, you what this means and the punishment if it's false,” I said over the phone. I got a call from one of my men telling me that my brother, Xavier was spotted. “Very well then. Keep an eye on him,"“Nikolai!” I called out my wingman immediately I dropped the phone. Just then another call came into Nikolai's phone. "Permit me to pick the call my lord,” Nikolai requested and I nodded in affirmation. Not long after, he dropped the call. “It was a call about a lone wolf. It was from another wolf and yet what was most intriguing about the whole thing was that this caller had demanded no commissions.” Nikolai said with a smirk. I was skeptical at first but it won't hurt to take those dogs for a walk. We take lone wolves in as a servant for our pack but if they are lucky enough, they might be mated to one of us. I turned to the nearest man, “Get the dogs and go, we have a lone wolf out of its cage,”“We have no dogs,” a voice said from behind

Xavier's pov.I still was not satisfied with the report I received from Rune. I just felt drawn to Lyra. I needed to be there.Rune who had teleported away was yet to return. He was my eyes and ears outside of this place.I wasn't ready to face my people, my brother, but I was willing to try, and most especially, for Lyra.Rune returned but it was with a more dramatic light show than he left.“That will teach that lout not to double-cross me,” he said as he walked up to the wine cabinet.“Spells and magic have taken a whole lot out of me today, please let us rest,” Rune said to me. “You should also have a shot yourself, you look like a drenched wolf cub,” he added. I looked at him and chuckled, my next news was going to send him into a frenzy, a very wild one at that. “Drink up and rest and do that quickly. We're heading to the Darkmoon manor at once,”And just as expected, he gave a dramatic show.He spat the drink from his mouth and choked on his tongue.“What do you mean we are

Rune’s povIt felt good getting back at that wizard. Something about it felt wrong especially the way he was looking at Lyra with fear evident on his face but I didn't care. If not for anything I used Lyra as my consolation. He almost drained her soul from her body. He deserved worse for using such spells on another living being especially when he was not being attacked. Lyra was helpless and yet he used spells with the power to inflict excruciating pain on its victims.I was back at the residence with Xavier, and he was looking like a drenched puppy. I offered him a shot of vodka as I was having several shots too. “You should have a shot yourself, you look like a drenched wolf cub,” I poked at him. He was always an easy tease. He took it well and he chuckled in response to my teasing. Or so I thought. The words that came out of his mouth threw me into a frenzy.“Drink up,” he let out, “Rest and do that quickly, we're heading to the Darkmoon manor at once,”It took me a while

Lyra's povI walked up to the door with thoughts and questions raging in my head. I still don't see how I got here. None of this was my fault. I turned to make one last plea. I was ready to take the blame. I just needed my mother in these hard times, heck, who was I going to tell of my ordeal with that wild earlier? “Mother please, we don't have to do this, not again” I pleaded.“Mother please, just listen to me,”“I have no daughter,” she responded as she grabbed the phone and dialed some numbers.I knew what that meant at this point. I had run a reasonable distance before I heard howls and saw bright lights coming from the direction of my mother's place.I ran int

Lyra's pov What was happening to me?Why are these visions and most importantly why do they look like they are coming to pass? Why do these premonitions seem so real?Rune was oblivious to what was happening to me. I looked at every object and every person carefully to see if I could trigger something to further prove or disprove that what I saw earlier today was real.Nothing was helping, nothing clicked and nothing most definitely rang a single bell.“Almost there now,” Rune announced.I expected the best honestly but something would not let that premonition go. Not like it had ever mattered or happened before, save that one time. But even then, it didn't seem like it happened in real-time.The decor from the moment Rune announced changed. The hallway was a masterclass in elegance and refinement, a symphony of opulence that unfolds with each step. My gaze was first drawn to the soaring ceiling, adorned with intricate moldings and gilded details that shimmered in the soft light.

But who was that lady who was murdered by the wolf?“It's nice to meet you again,” I might not have noticed this the last time we met, but his voice threw me off guard.Silky and smooth enough to knock me off temporarily from my train of thought.I wondered why it was different the last time and I found solace in the rage that burned inside of me that night. But today was different, under a different circumstance.“I honestly thought I'd never see you again but look at you, standing here, strong, bold, and audacious,” the Alpha uttered. Here I was basking in the seductive melody of his voice t

Lyra's POV.There was no way this was happening, not while I lived and most definitely not in my presence.“Umm, what? What's going on?” As the constant breath escaping the nostrils of everyone present there in the hall, I was unnoticed. Important to the discussion but unnoticed.“Very well then. You, Lucas, will be testing her, Lyra Octavia,” the alpha said finally with an air of authority.“Oh hell nah! I disagree, not very well. Lucas will not be testing me,” I said in resistance but that was all in my head. I prayed for a chance to speak but was given none. What would I have said if I was granted the chance to?Tell them the tale of the rejection Lucas suffered at my hands or?I must have judged too soon when I saw no downside to accepting the proposal to be one with the Darkmoon pack, family, or whatever. But being in the bond as Lucas? Lyra's POVThere was something uncomfortable on my face. I was too weak to open my eyes, and for some reason, I felt oddly comfortable where I lay. I didn’t want to move a muscle, but the crawling sensation grew worse, becoming unbearable.I tried to brush whatever it was away with my hands, but it was no use. I had to open my eyes. My heart leapt when they finally came into contact with the green leaves hanging and swinging freely above me.The tingling sensation I felt was from a spider trying to weave a web on my face. I remembered why I was here.I could hear thunder and sizzling sounds nearby, and I knew something was happening. Random screams and shouts echoed around me. I realized people were getting hit, and the moment I thought of who might be on the receiving end, I summoned every last bit of strength I had to stand and fight. As I made my way through the bushes, I began to wonder who was fighting. “Nikolai?” I thought in disbelief. There was no way he could have done this.

Not everyone has to tell you everything,” he added with a smirk.“It’s not every day you see a three-tailed wolf laying around at her initiation ceremony.”Pity filled me as I recalled all the times I should have been there for her. But it was too late to turn back now. If I had one wish, it would be to go back and support her then.“Of course, I knew what that meant,” he said, taking a step forward. “I and Lyra have history.”“Remember that one time you subjected me to the human realm, forcing me to live amongst them for over a century? Yes, that one time. I obeyed, and it turned out not to be as bad as I expected.”“It was wonderful. She was one of the reasons—I loved her dearly.”“She didn’t give me a chance anyway, and my punishment was nearing its completion. I was going to make my move until you cut me off.”“I mean, you brought her back to me…”He must have seen the confusion in my eyes. “Oh… I understand how confusing that

Xavier's POVI had heard enough from Rune. I could have found ways to shut him up if this were not true and if he had not just been to hell and back. His explanations gave logical reasons for everything I experienced the very first day I came in contact with Lyra. It could also explain why Ozed was skeptical about me touching her that night and why I felt attracted to her.But there was a catch: if all that Rune had said were true, I was yet to see her as my mate. She was still with her exes, as far as I knew, and I did not want to ruin whatever we had going on between us. I trusted Rune, but this was a significant risk to take. But first, I needed to get to Lyra.He was still speaking when I felt something strange. Whatever it was, I could feel it, and it felt familiar. I was certain this was the least that could happen to me.I opened my eyes to see Xavier looming over me, his face a mix of concern and confusion. He was calling my name repeatedly, but I was just as lost as I had been moments ago. Where was I? What was happening? As my surroundings came into focus, I realized I was in Kayla's room. I struggled to piece together how I got there, my mind still foggy. Xavier's urgent voice was a constant in my ears, shaking me as if he could rattle the answers out of me.“Rune,” he called again, and I felt a surge of irritation. The pounding in my head was growing unbearable. Just as I was about to respond, an unexpected sneeze overtook me. It felt like a reset button—my heart kicked back to life, and memories flooded my mind.“I remember trying to...” I began, but the thoughts were jumbled, causing a splitting headache. We didn’t actually need Lyra; I just needed the grimoire.“Your master is sick and not himself,” I told it. The book pulsed with a glow, responding, but I couldn’t understand its message.“Yeah, yeah,” I muttered, still unsure how to communicate. Xavier's POVI needed to handle this matter wisely. Something was going on, and I had to get to the bottom of it. Rune had become audacious. I knew he was bold, but today felt different. He was embittered, fueled by every negative energy I could think of. This wasn’t the Rune who stood for the right things.I had no one to blame but myself. I left him to whatever had changed him. “Lyra was right,” I sighed. I needed to know what was wrong with Rune and, most importantly, if the one I held in my hands was truly him. This was a serious debate in my mind. Certain signs made me believe this was Rune, while others made me doubt. He had knowledge no one else could have about me. He was my right-hand man for a reason, privy to my deepest fears. He was a magic user, and the spells he cast were ones I had seen him use before. But the fact that he couldn’t heal as quickly as usual threw me off. He was a wolf, after all.“Why do I even bother?” I groaned. “Just don’t let him die. Whoever he
