Chapter 3
Liam’s POV She wrenched her arm free. For a moment, the graze of her skin, the spark firing at that first contact, still lingered. Cara's face didn't change. Her eyes—sharp, guarded—met mine with defense. "I don’t know him," she said, her voice level. Liar. I watched her closely, Boris, my wolf, pacing inside me.Boris growled, his frustration evident. “I want to talk to Cornell now”
I clenched my jaw, “Not now, Boris” “She’s our mate,” he snapped, pacing inside me like a caged animal. “Let's make this quick" I ignored him, keeping my eye on Cara. The way her scent curled around me, something wild and sharp, like fresh rain after a storm. The way her lips pressed together like I was holding her back to him. The way her pulse quickened when I touched her, no matter how much she tried to hide it. I took a step closer, watching as her jaw tensed. “Do you feel it? We are mates” I asked, my voice low. She didn't pretend to misunderstand. "I know what I am," she said. "And I know what you are. You would never want an outcast as your luna." Her lips curled into something almost bitter. "I'm ready for rejection." Boris growled. Her words twist in my chest. I hadn't expected that. I had expected confusion, maybe denial, but not this….this quiet acceptance, like she had already made peace with a fate I hadn't even fucking decided yet. “You'd better mark her soon.” Boris snarled, “I can't wait.” I ignored him again. I wasn't about to lose control-not yet. Instead, I studied her, letting the silence stretch. "I think you don’t give this pack enough credit," I said finally, my tone smooth. "We're more tolerant than you probably think." "Join the training," I repeated. "See that for yourself." She blinked, as though I'd just given her the most preposterous answer. Before she could respond, the scent of roses and perfumer's redolence wafted into the room.Sofia, my sister Her eyes darted back and forth between me and Cara. She didn't say anything, but it seemed that she said everything Cara exhaled slowly, then turned to me. “I have things to do,” she said. Then, without another word, she left. Boris let out a low, displeased growl as I watched her walk away. Sofia noticed. Her eyes narrowed as she stepped closer. I didn't look at her. My eyes were still locked on the doorway Cara had just disappeared through. Sofia followed my gaze, then said it in a dissatisfied tone. "Let's go to your study." In my study, she leaned against my desk, twirling a strand of her hair. Her eyes wandered over the bookshelves behind me. Sofia pulled out a book and read the title. “This book is rare and beyond its value. I've been longing for it ever since I noticed it on your shelf..Now the author, Cela, is having a fan meeting soon. I want to take an out-of-print book to get it signed.” She smiled. “Could you give me this one.” I closed the folder in my hands and leaned back in my chair. “No.” She frowned. “Why? I am your sister” “If you want an autograph, I can get one for you,” I said. “But I won’t give you that book.” Her eyes sparkled. “Do you know the author? You know Cela?” I gave her a look and she groaned. "Fine, whatever." She set the book back on the shelf and muttered something as she strode from my office. After she was gone, I stood up and pulled The Forgotten War from the shelf. I flipped them until one fell open to the page A photograph that was burnt. It’s Cara Black or“Alec Davis”
I ran a finger over the image. The fire had almost annihilated it, but I'd managed to save it from the fire two years ago. Still, the edges were blackened, with a crack running through the image. But it didn't matter. I had found her. And this time, she wouldn't slip right through my fingers this time.Chapter 4 : She is Mine Liam’s Pov A loud rap of knuckles against wood yanked me from my mind. One of my men knocked on the door, face etched tightly. "Liam, it's Cara. Her cousin and those guys are causing her trouble again." I felt rage jump through me like a live current. "And?" The warrior shifted uneasily. "As usual, she doesn’t hit back." I slapped the book closed. I knew Cara was strong. We’d faced each other so many times in the battle. Of course, I know she could kick those bastards ass. But this is her choice “Go there. Right now,” Boris demanded. “Stop this nonsense.” I exhaled sharply, already on my feet. “I’m going. I'll handle it myself." By the time I arrived, Mateo and his pack of bastards were already gone. Her lower lip was smeared with blood, bruises already discoloring along her arms. I narrowed my eyes. She was healing. Slow. On purpose. Smart girl. She was concealing what she was by this way. Boris growled at the sight of her woun
Chapter 5 Cara's POV By the time I made it home, the ache was gone, but the bruises still coloured my skin. I'd retarded my healing, made it appear as if I wasn't healing as fast as I ought to. It was needed. Uncle took one look. "What happened?" he asked, frowning, his eyes roaming the bruises on my arms. "Training," I said, pushing past him toward the kitchen. "It will heal soon” Uncle let out a sharp exhalation. I began fiddling with the kettle, pretending that I hadn't heard the disappointment in his voice. We had this same conversation every time. He knew what was going on. But he also knew why I never fought back. Long after, he finally spoke. "You should rest." Instead, I pulled out the rent money that I had set aside and placed it on the table. "At least take this.” He shook his head almost immediately. "No." "I could not go see your father before he died," he cut me off, his voice low and laden. "I gave in. I betrayed him and Alpha Robert " He turned
Chapter 6 : A Twist Of Fate Cara’s POV I stood at the back of the mating ceremony. My heart, pounding. I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself. I glanced sideways at the influential family of Alphas; Alpha Marcus stood with another Alpha and his daughter, adding to the burden of this moment. It was choking: the eyes of all outside, their expectations so thick in the air. Liam stood tall upon the stage, his voice strong as he addressed the crowd. “Shadow wood pack and Barry pack have taken care of each other's backs for a while, and now it is time to make it official. We will sign the mutual protection contract" he said in a firm, clear voice. The Alpha of the Barry Pack, with his entourage, had also looked quite shocked by this announcement Liam continued, ignoring the growing awkwardness. "And now, it is an honor to have you all here, witnessing the bond that will strengthen our packs," he said, eyes scanning the room with that usual unshakeable calm. “And I want t
Chapter7 : The Bond Liam’s POV I followed my father into the study. As soon as the door closed, he hit me without warning. I noticed this before he started, but I didn’t move. I knew this day would come, but I still froze for a moment. Now, I just had to let him take out his anger on me. “You did this without telling me” The crack of the whip had seared across my back, I took my father’s wrath in Silence. “You didn't ask me," he growled in a low tone . "Why?” When the sound of the whip stopped, he nodded for me to get up. "Explain yourself.". I straightened, meeting his gaze without the slightest problem. What my father wants are: power, control, expansion. It ran in the blood, after all. So it's just a matter of making me mating Cara conform to what he wants “Father, I know you want to take more land and control the packs around us,” I said, keeping my voice calm. “But the bigger we get, the harder it is to handle everything. We’ve already felt the pressure. You migh
Chapter 8 Liam’s POV Cara was waiting for me, her arms crossed tightly over her chest, her eyes narrowing with confusion. “You better give me a reasonable explanation” I met her gaze, trying to keep my expression neutral. “I told you I am gonna have the mating ceremony today, right?” She huffed, her brow furrowing deeper. “Yeah, of course. with the daughter of Barry pack's Alpha.” I took a step closer, my eyes searching hers for understanding. “I did not say that. I just told you I am going to have my mating ceremony.” And You are my mate, of course. I would choose you” She opened her mouth, but she didn't seem to know how to talk me back, and I took her by hand before she could say any word of refusal. I took Cara to dinner with my family. As soon as we entered the dining hall, the air felt heavy. The large chandelier above lit up the long table, but it didn’t make the atmosphere any warmer. The only sounds were the soft clinking of silverware and the faint crackling of
Chapter Nine : Pieces Of Memory Cara’s Pov The next morning, I slowly opened my eyes. I was in a new room. The room was nicely decorated with soft, yellow light coming in through the big windows. My head hurt with a dull pain, reminding me of what happened the night before. Pieces of memories started coming back to me - the sound of laughing, glasses clinking, and Liam's lips touching mine. Did we really kiss, or was I dreaming? As I tried to sit up, someone knocked softly on the door. "Good morning," a quiet voice said. The door opened, and a maid came in with a tray of breakfast food. The smell of fresh coffee and baked goods filled the air, making me feel a little better. “Where am I?” I asked, confused. “You drank too much last night,” she explained. “Liam brought you here and he slept in the guest room.” Embarrassed, I ask"Where is Liam?" The maid looked up and smiled. "Liam is at the training grounds, miss. He's practicing with the others." The maid gave me directions,
Chapter Ten : The Hidden Truth Cara‘s POVAlpha prepared to leave with his sons. They were heading to Barry pack to discuss a mutual help treaty. Sophia appeared, her eyes flashing with annoyance. “Liam, you promised to train with me today,” she snapped, glaring at him “But now you are leaving. Liam, who was preparing to leave, overheard her. He glanced at Sophia and sighed. “I’ll train with you when I get back.” Sophia let out an irritated sigh, tossing her hair over her shoulder. “That’s not fair. You always put other things first. I need to train, Liam. If you’re not going to help me, someone else should Liam finally turned to her, his brows furrowed. “I said I’d train with you when I return, Sophia. It’s just one day. You can wait.” She scoffed and rolled her eyes. “Or you could just let Cara help me.” I blinked, caught off guard by the sudden mention of my name. Before Liam could argue further, Alpha Marcus' deep voice cutting through the conversation. “That’s a great
Chapter Eleven : Rescued Liam’s Pov As soon as I returned, I heard the news—They had been attacked. I rushed to the training field The moment I arrived, I took control. “Spread out! Look everywhere!” , Everyone immediately followed my orders, searching the entire area. Minutes turned into hours, and the more time passed, the more worried I became. My breathing was heavy, and sweat dripped down my face, but I kept searching. I refused to stop. Just then, I saw Cara. She was floating, holding onto a piece of driftwood. Her body looked weak, her arms barely gripping the wood. I ran to the river and dove in. The water was so cold, but I didn’t care. All that mattered to me was getting her before it was too late I lifted Cara gently from the ground and into my arms. The water was freezing cold, and I could tell Cara's body shivered with the cold. I wrapped her as tightly as possible in my arms, trying to warm her. I swung around to return to the River, I put her down on the sh
Chapter Thirthy Two: Cara Is Pregnant (Liam’s POV)Cara’s sudden collapse sent the entire room into chaos. One moment, she was standing there, tears streaming down her face as my mother ordered her out of the pack. The next, she swayed on her feet, her face going pale before she fell to the ground, clutching her stomach.“Cara!” I yelled, rushing to her side. She was unconscious, her breathing uneven. My heart pounded in my chest as I scooped her up into my arms. All my doubts, all the accusations, everything disappeared in that moment. Nothing mattered except getting her help.“She’s faking it,” my mother spat, folding her arms. “Don’t fall for her tricks, Liam.”“She’s not faking it!” Sophia snapped, kneeling beside me. “Can’t you see she’s sick?”Vanessa scoffed. “Sick or not, she doesn’t belong here. You should let her leave just as your mother ordered.”I shot her a glare. “Shut up, Vanessa.”For the first time, I wasn’t interested in pleasing anyone—my mother, my father, Vaness
Chapter Thirty One : SchemeCara’s POVThe room spun around me. My chest felt heavy, my throat tight.Luna’s voice echoed in my ears, sharp and filled with disgust.“Get out!” she screamed, pointing at the door. “You can’t stay in this pack! Someone like you will never be our next Luna.”Tears blurred my vision as I shook my head frantically. “No, please! You have to believe me! It’s a setup! I didn’t do it!” My voice cracked with desperation.Liam stood there, frozen. His eyes were clouded with confusion, his fists clenched at his sides. I searched his face for something—anything—that would tell me he believed me.But he said nothing. His silence shattered me more than Luna’s cruel words.I took a shaky step forward, but Vanessa’s voice cut through the tension like a blade.“She doesn’t deserve to be Luna,” Vanessa sneered, crossing her arms. “Just look at her. She doesn’t have the appearance, the status, or the class. And now, she’s going after Liam’s father?” She let out a cold lau
Chapter Thirty : The BetrayalLiam's POVI was sitting in my room with my men, my fingers tapping on the wooden table. My mind had not been at peace since we returned home. Cara had been through too much, and I was taking no chances."She can't go anywhere alone," I said emphatically, my voice not open to discussion. "At least three of you must follow her everywhere she goes."The men nodded, their faces grave."She might not like it," one of them, Marcus, spoke up."I don't care," I replied. "This doesn't have anything to do with what she likes. This is about keeping her safe."No sooner had I spoken than the door swung open.Luna Mariana, my mother, stood in the doorway. Her face was impassive, but her eyes—there was something in her eyes, something that twisted my gut."Liam," she said, her voice steady but commanding. "Come with me. You need to see something."I frowned. "What is it?""Just come with me," she said.I paused. Something was not right, but this was my mother. I trust
Chapter Twenty Nine : A Deal for My MateCara's POVMy stomach growled as I walked down the hall, towards the kitchen. I was exhausted from everything that had happened, and all I wanted was a warm meal and some peace. The house was quiet, the air still. It was a strange kind of quiet, the kind that precedes a storm. As I neared the kitchen, I was just going to enter when I heard a voice I recognized.Vanessa.I stopped, my hand mid-air before I opened the door. Her voice was smooth, confident—perhaps too confident.Something in her tone made me hesitate. Instead of entering, I stepped back, pressing myself against the wall and listening."Luna, you know how much I respect Liam. He deserves a strong partner beside him. Someone like me."I frowned. What was she up to?Luna sighed. "Vanessa, I already said, this is not my choice to make. Liam will select his own mate.""But why should he pick someone weak?" Vanessa insisted. "Cara doesn't have a powerful lineage. She has no powers. She
Chapter Twenty Eight: An Unexpected WelcomeCara’s POVThe journey back home was exhausting. My entire body ached, and Liam was breathing heavily beside me. Though we had escaped, the tension hadn’t left me. Every step we took felt like we were still being hunted.Liam kept a firm arm around me, his touch both protective and reassuring. “We’re almost there,” he murmured.I nodded, too tired to respond. My legs felt like lead, and my mind was still replaying everything that had happened. Caleb. His touch. His threats. The way Liam had saved me. My heart clenched. If Liam hadn’t been there… I shook the thought away.As we reached the entrance of Liam’s house, the door suddenly swung open.“SURPRISE!”I flinched, my body tensing on instinct. But then, I saw Sophia standing there with a wide smile, holding a bouquet of fresh red roses. The entire house was decorated with soft fairy lights, and the scent of freshly baked bread filled the air.I blinked in confusion. “What…?”Sophia’s smile
Chapter Twenty Seven: Escape in the DarkCara’s POVThe air in the room was thick with tension. My wrists ached from the tight ropes, but that wasn’t what had my heart pounding. It was the way Caleb was looking at me—like I was some prize he was eager to claim. He crouched in front of me, his golden eyes burning with lust and possession. “I’ve waited long enough, Cara,” he murmured, reaching out to stroke my cheek. I jerked my head away, disgust twisting in my stomach.“I won’t let you touch me,” I spat, my voice shaking with fury.He chuckled darkly. “Oh, but you don’t have a choice, my love.” His fingers slid to my shoulder, gripping the fabric of my dress.I struggled hard, kicking at him, but he barely budged. “Don’t fight me, Cara. I will have you, whether you like it or not,” he growled.I turned my head desperately, searching for Liam. He was still tied to the chair, his muscles tense, his expression dark and unreadable. But his eyes… His eyes were filled with something terrify
Chapter Twenty Six : Unbroken By WillI struggled with Caleb's hold, my heart beating wildly in my chest. His hands were rough, his breath hot against my skin. I pushed against him with all my strength, but he was too strong."Let me go!" I growled, twisting my body, trying to tear loose.Caleb scorned, his eyes black with desire and control. "Why fight it, Cara?" he whispered, his fingers outlining my jaw. "You were always meant to be mine."I jerked my face away in disgust. "I belong to nobody!"He laughed, amused by my desperation. His fingers sank into my arms, holding me against the cold of the stone wall. My heart was beating so achingly hard. I would not cry, would not be scared.Suddenly, the door burst open.A whirlwind of movement. A blast of wind.Then—Liam.He stormed into the room like a tempest, his eyes burning with rage. Chapter 25: His Mate?Cara’s POVPain pulsed through my body, but I ignored it. My muscles ached from the fight, my skin was raw where the ropes had bitten into my flesh, but I refused to show weakness. The room was cold, damp, the scent of wolves thick in the air. Unfamiliar wolves. The walls were made of stone, the only light coming from a small barred window near the ceiling. There were no chains, no silver, but that didn’t make me any less trapped.I had been taken.I clenched my fists, my heart pounding. Liam. Did he even know I was gone? Would he come for me?Or worse—had he let them take me?Before I could drown in that thought, the heavy door creaked open.Caleb.I knew it was him before I even saw his face. Chapter Twenty Fiur: When Everything ChangedLiam's POVThe moment Sophia burst through the doors, gasping and gaping, I recognized that something was wrong. My entire body seized up, instincts in overdrive before she'd even get a word out."It's Cara—she's gone."Those words were like a blow to the gut. I didn't budge for a moment, didn't take a breath. But then my eyes snapped into focus and my wolf churned futilely beneath my skin.Gone?I approached her slowly, my voice strained. "What do you mean she's vanished?"Sophia swallowed once more, her face pale. "We—we were rehearsing. Everything was fine. Then they came." Her breath hitched, fear creeping into her tone. "They were fast, Liam. Too fast. Cara shifted and fought them off, but too many. And their leader—he was strong. Too strong."A growl convulsed deep in my chest. My wolf tried to claw free, looking for blood, looking for fight.I grasped Sophia by the shoulders, holding her face to mine. "Who kidnapped her?"She shook h
