Kira’s POV.

The stench of wet fur, blood, and rotting food clings to me as I step out of the pack hospital. My arms and hands ache and feel sore from scrubbing cages, and I swear I can still feel the weight of the waste buckets I hauled all day.

It's been eight hours of cleaning up after sick and injured wolves, and what do I have to show for it? A ruined uniform and the lingering scent of kennel filth that no amount of scrubbing ever seems to remove.

I keep my head down as I walk, hoping and praying I can make it back home without running into anyone. But, of course, the Moon Goddess isn’t that kind to omegas like me.

“Look what we have here.”

I freeze at the sound of that sickly sweet voice I'd recognize even without looking at them. My stomach twists, and I force myself to keep moving, but it’s too late. They’ve seen me.

Lena, Tara, and Cassie, once my highschool classmates, now my daily tormentors step in front of me, blocking my path. Their perfectly styled hair and designer clothes are a stark contrast to my dirt-streaked uniform.

“Ugh,” Lena wrinkles her nose. “Do you ever bathe, Kira? Or is rolling in filth part of your job?”

Cassie giggles. “I think she’s just trying to fit in with the mutts she cleans up after.”

I clench my fists at my sides, nails digging into my palms. Don’t react and give them the satisfaction. I try to step around them, but Tara moves quicker, reaching into the satchel slung across my chest.

My breath catches. No. No, no, no.

“What's this?” she hums, pulling out a small velvet pouch. My heart slams against my ribs as she opens it, revealing a delicate silver tarnished bracelet but still gleaming under the sunset.

My mother’s bracelet.

“Give that back!” I lunge for it, but Tara yanks her hand away, laughing.

“Aww, is this from your dead mommy?” she taunts, dangling it between her fingers. “Why do you even keep it? It’s not like she’s coming back for it.”

My vision blurs with anger, but I swallow it down. If I lash out, or fight them, I'm definitely losing because that’s the way of the pack. Omegas don’t get justice.

“Please,” I force out through gritted teeth. “It’s all I have left of her.”

Tara glances at Lena and Cassie, exchanging amused smirks. Then she shrugs. “Alright. You can have it back.”

Hope flutters in my chest, but it’s short-lived. The smile that stretches across her lips is too cruel and knowing.

“But only if you do something for us,” Lena adds, her eyes gleaming with mischief.

My stomach drops. “What?”

Cassie steps forward, folding her arms. “We want you to go into the Forbidden Forest and bring us some Blissleaf.”

My breath catches. Blissleaf. The plant that sends wolves into a euphoric high. It's illegal and dangerous. And only found in the one place a few dare to go.

I shake my head instantly. “No. I can’t.”

Lena pouts. “Then I guess this is mine now.” She waves the bracelet tauntingly.

My chest tightens. I could try to grab it again, but I already know how that would end—with me on the ground and my mother’s last memory crushed beneath their heels.

I have no choice but to swallow my fear and whisper, “Fine.”

Their grins widen.

“Good girl,” Tara purrs. “You have three hours.”

As they saunter off, my pulse pounds in my ears. The Forbidden Forest is forbidden for a reason and I just agreed to go inside it.

***

An hour later, the Forbidden Forest is nothing like the whispering trees behind the packhouse or the dense woods near the training grounds. It’s darker, colder—alive with something unseen. The moment I step past the twisted roots at the border, a chill creeps down my spine.

Just get the Blissleaf and leave. That’s all I have to do. I tell myself over and over, trying to block out the sound of the bullies' laughter because they don’t think I’ll come back. They expect me to get scared and run like I usually do. But I won’t. Not this time. I know what’s at stake.

Moving quickly, I navigate through the overgrown path, careful not to make too much noise. Every shadow feels like a pair of eyes watching me, but I force my legs forward.

It doesn’t take long before I spot Blissleaf. The plant is smaller than I expected, its silvery leaves shimmering faintly under the moonlight. It grows in clusters near the base of a fallen tree, hidden beneath tangled roots.

I crouch down, reaching for the delicate stems. My fingers graze the leaves—

A low growl slices through the silence.

My breath catches, and before I can react, figures emerge from the bushes. Three of them Rogues.

Their clothes are tattered, their eyes burning with hunger and something worse.

“Well, well,” one of them sneers. “Look what wandered into our hunting ground.”

The second one steps closer, inhaling deeply. “Omega,” he muses. “Weak, but… fresh.”

My heart slams against my ribs. They’re not here to kill me.

They’re here to play.

I swallow hard and force myself to stand tall. “Stay back,” I warn, voice steady despite the tremor in my limbs. “I’ll fight.”

They laugh.

The third rogue—a massive brute with a scar down his cheek—lunges first. I try to dodge, but he’s too fast. His hand closes around my wrist, twisting it painfully. I yelp, kicking at his legs, but another rogue grips my other arm, yanking me back.

“Feisty,” Scarface grins. “I like it.”

Panic floods my veins. I thrash, bite, scratch—but it’s useless. My strength is nothing compared to theirs. They force me to my knees, and for the first time in a long time, I feel real fear.

Then—

A whistle cuts through the air.

The weight on my arms vanishes as arrows fly past me, striking two rogues in the legs.

A new scent floods my nose—strong, authoritative royal guards from the strongest and biggest pack, Crimson crown.

I can tell this from their black and gold uniforms, and their weapons which gleam under the moonlight as they surround the remaining rogue. Scarface snarls but doesn’t get far—a guard slams his knee into his gut, sending him crumbling to the dirt.

I scramble back, heart racing.

One of the guards steps forward, offering me a hand. “Are you hurt?”

Shaken, I shake my head. “I—I’m okay. Thank you.”

The guard tilts his head. “Don’t thank us. Thank our master.”

My brow furrows. “Your master?”

He gestures toward the road beyond the trees. A sleek black car sits there, just out of reach of the moonlight.

I squint, trying to make out the figure inside, but the windows are too dark. For a split second, I catch a flash of silver eyes. Something about the presence inside feels familiar, yet eerie, making my stomach twist.

Who would send royal guards of Crimson crown into the Forbidden Forest?

And more importantly…

Why do they smell like someone I should know? I mull over the thought, trying to piece it together, until a voice snaps me back to reality.

"Do you need a ride back to wherever you came from?" one of the royal guards asks.

I quickly shake my head, rejecting the offer without hesitation. There’s no way I’m getting into a car with strangers — even if they did just save my life.

Omega slaves are treated horribly, and if they decided to take me as one, begging the Moon Goddess for death might be my only mercy.

Fresh bruises bloom beneath my torn uniform, refusing to heal immediately because of my omega blood, but I grit my teeth and push forward. The Blissleaf is tucked safely in my pocket. The only reason I endured this miserable night from those mutts. By the time I reach the pack’s main square, the streets are quieter, most pack mates having retired for the night. But I know where they’ll be. They’re always there. Lena, Tara, and Cassie lounge on the stone steps outside the café, laughing over drinks, their polished nails glinting in the moonlight. My stomach churns at the sight of them, but I keep my chin high as I walk up to them. Lena notices me first and smirks. “Well, well. Look who’s still breathing.” I say nothing, just pull the small bundle of Blissleaf from my pocket and toss it onto the table between them. The silver leaves glisten under the streetlights

Kira’s POV The next morning comes too soon and my body still aches in places I didn’t even know could hurt, but I force myself out of bed and go to work as usual. The bruises from last night throb under my worn out uniform as I walk, but I don’t dare complain because who can even hear me out or believe anything I say… The pack hospital looms ahead, its cold white walls offering no comfort. I swipe my badge at the entrance and make my way inside, hoping I’ll be left alone today. But I have no such luck. "Kira Everhart!" I stop, turning as Nurse Yvonne strides toward me. Her usual look of disinterest is replaced with annoyance. "You’re on cleaning duty in the west wing today," she says, shoving a cart toward me. "Do it properly this time." The west wing? My brows furrow. That area is barely used except for private patients whom I refer to as the important ones. Before I can ask why since most of the times, Gammas where responsible for cleaning that area, Yvonne is alrea

Kira’s POV The sun is already setting by the time my shift ends. My body aches from scrubbing floors and handling sick pack mates all day, but at least I’m done. I just want to go home, crawl into bed, and forget this miserable day ever happened. But as usual fate always has other plans. I barely make it a few steps from the hospital when my bullies show up. "Well, well," sneers Cassie, the ringleader. "Look who’s finally off work. Still rolling around in filth, Kira?" Her friends snicker beside her and I clench my fists. "I don't want your trouble today." Lena smirks and dangles my mother's bracelet in front of me. My breath catches and I don't think, I just lunge for it, but she jerks it away, laughing. "Not so fast," she coos. "You still owe us, remember?" "I already did what you asked," I snap. "Now give it back!" Tara clicks her tongue. "Tsk, tsk. You’re not very smart, are you? We never said we’d return it after just one favor." My stomach twists. "What do you want now

And since you successfully brought back blissful leaves the other day, we figured you can do it again. So you’ll do it for us, won’t you, Kira?" Successfully? Are they fuckiing kidding me? I almost got killed that night. I glare at them. "I don’t believe you. You’ll never give me back my bracelet." Cassie gasps dramatically. "Kira, I’m offended. You don’t trust us?" "Not even a little," I deadpan. The girls exchange knowing smiles. "Alright," Lena says. "How about this? You bring us a fresh blue rose’s fang, and we swear on the Moon Goddess, we’ll give you back your bracelet. No more tricks." I hesitate because I know it's a trap. But what other choice do I have? Damian's POV. I pace the living room area of the hotel suite I'm staying in, my fingers twitching at my sides. The expensive rug muffles my footsteps, but my frustration burns loud and clear. "Of all the wolves in this damn world," I mutter, voice low and sharp, "the Goddess had to pick her." Mother’s eyes flick up from her glass of wine. She's lounging on the velvet sofa, in her two piece white suit, calm as always. "Her?" she questions because she doesn’t know exactly what I'm talking about. I stop pacing and turn to face her. "Can you believe that the goddess fated me to an omega." The words taste bitter on my tongue. "She is a weak, pitiful excuse of a wolf... I don't want her near me!" Mother hums thoughtfully, swirling her wine. "An omega, you say?" The words alone set my blood on fire. I can't hide my frustration anymore. "That's all you have to say?" I snap. "I won’t accept her," I repeat, my voice tight with anger. Her glass clinks against the table as she sets

Damian's POV. “That’s her,” I say, turning to my mother who is still lounging on the sofa, sipping wine like she doesn’t have a care in the world. But at my words, she sets her glass down and gives me a pointed look. “Let them in,” she says smoothly. Then, through our mind-link, her voice cuts sharper. ‘ Remember, don’t reject her. Think of another way to keep her close to you instead.’ I clench my jaw. I already know exactly what I want to do. Julian gestures to the guard. “Go ahead. Let them in.” The guard nods and steps away. Moments later, the door opens, and my mate walks in looking dirty and disorganized like before. But the world still fades away as the bond tugs at me, pulling me toward her like a moth to a flame. I admit that she is a beautiful petite omega... but all I can see is her weakness in the way she lowers her eyes, and the uncertainty in her steps. I grit my teeth, disgusted with myself for feeling anything toward her. Fate must be playing a sick joke

Kira's POV The drive home after meeting with prince Damian and his mother is quiet, but my mind won’t stop racing. Damian’s cold words echo in my head, sharp and full of disgust. 'Don't fool yourself. This isn't some fairytale you get to live a happily ever after.' Those words keeps circling back, clinging to me like a shadow. How could my own mate, fate chose for me couldn’t even hide his disappointment. He didn’t reject me, but he made it painfully clear that I wasn’t wanted. Instead, I’ve been ordered to work as a servant in his palace — as if I’m nothing more than an inconvenience to be managed. I swallow hard, fighting back the tightness in my throat. It’s not like I expected him to welcome me with open arms, but… I didn’t think it would feel this awful. I stare out the window, watching the trees blur past. Suddenly, my thoughts drift back to the hotel suite — not just to Damian’s cruel words, but to that wheelchair. I remember seeing it once before back at the pack

Julian's POV. I can’t stop thinking about Kira even though she is fated to my young brother... The first time I saw her was in that cursed forest. At first, I thought she was just some reckless omega with no sense of danger. She didn’t belong out there — not with rogues lurking in the shadows. I could’ve ignored her, kept going, and left her to fend for herself. But when those rogues moved in, something made me stop and order my guards to help her as she just stood there, frozen and terrified, yet somehow... still holding her ground. That moment stuck with me. Then I saw her again at the hospital. I’d gone to consult with Redmoon’s pack doctors about my condition — not that they told me anything useful. Just more empty promises about potential treatments, none of which seemed to make a difference. I remember sitting in that cold, sterile room, feeling like I was suffocating and the chair had swallowed up the man I used to be. And then I noticed her. Kira, quietly cleaning th

Damian's POV. I can still feel the sting of embarrassment in front of everyone at the table… I can't believe father took Kira's side over mine and now Julian smirks like he is being renamed Alpha heir while Kira hasn’t looked my way since I picked up that damn fork after I tried to humiliate. I grip it tight in my hand now, the prongs digging into the meat like it’s the only thing stopping me from snapping. “Such tension,” Father says, swirling his wine like we’re at some royal gala and not a warzone. “But I suppose that’s what young love does to a table.” Julian doesn’t even pretend to hide his grin. “Couldn’t agree more.” He turns to Kira, brushing something off her cheek. “You had a little something on your face,” he murmurs, just loud enough for all of us to hear. “Can’t let perfection go unnoticed.” Kira lets out a soft shy but genuine laugh… I clench my jaw because now she is just enjoying tormenting me even though I forbade her to be with anyone else even though I

Julian’s POV. Finding kira in a gloomy mood after my physiotherapy session, it was clear something was weighing on her, and though she wasn’t ready to talk about it, I knew the only thing that could lift her spirits was provoking my dear stupid brother at dinner until he finally snapped and rejected her for good. I finish rolling up my sleeves and glance sideways just in time to catch her wobble. Kira stands by the mirror in the closet, frowning at her reflection and more specifically, at the heels and the soft pink dress that hugs her frame like it was made for her, while the palace lights spilling through the window highlight every curve, every freckle, and every strand of those wild red curls. She looks like spring has come to life. Soft. Radiant and completely unprepared. “You’re going to break your ankle before we even leave the room,” I say, amused, watching her take another unsteady step toward me. “I told you I’ve never worn heels,” she mutters, gripping the dresse

Kira's POV. Julian’s massive walk-in closet looks like it belongs in a royal catalog—probably because it does. Everything inside it gleams. Organized and perfect. The racks on his side are filled with clothes and shoes that probably cost more than I’ve seen in my entire life. Now the cleaning servants are clearing space on the other side for me. I watch silently as one of them hesitates near the shoe rack, eyeing the neatly lined heels like she’s unsure if it’s okay to touch anything. “You can place the shoes over there,” I say softly, pointing to the lower section with the empty shelf. “They’ll fit just fine.” The servant nods too quickly and scurries off like I might bark orders at her next which I won’t... But the way they avoid my eyes now says it all. They’re scared of me not because I’ve changed, but because of who I’m with. I sigh and turn back to the growing pile of new clothes, carefully folding a soft lavender cashmere sweater Julian bought me… Suddenly, the d

Julian's POV.What condition does my father have for kira who already been through hell since she got here?I tense immediately, sitting straighter in my chair as I glance at Kira. She’s frozen beside me, hands clasped tightly in her lap, eyes flicking between me and my father like she’s bracing for a blow.“What condition?” I ask, keeping my voice steady, but my jaw clenches.Father leans forward slightly, his gaze firm but calm. “Kira must continue cooking me my favorite mushroom soup every morning. Just as I asked her before all… this.”Kira blinks, clearly caught off guard. “That’s it?”Father nods. “That soup yesterday morning and today has kept my appetite alive. I won’t give it up.”Relief washes through the room like a warm breeze, loosening the stiffness in Kira’s shoulders. I bite down on a grin, fighting the urge to laugh, but she beats me to it—soft and light like wind chimes in spring.“I can do that Alpha Magnus,” she says, glancing at me shyly. “I wasn’t planning to sto

Kira's POV. Julian glances up at the woman who walked in on our lunch, his expression unreadable. “Evelyn.” She grins like he just paid her a compliment. “I almost didn’t recognize you sitting here so casually. Then again, you always did not like the attention.” He doesn’t return the smile. “Some things never change.” She laughs softly, eyes glittering. “And some things do. You look good….” Julian shrugs. “You’re imagining things.” Evelyn’s gaze lingers on him like she’s trying to peel back his layers and then she shifts her weight, letting one hand trail along the booth’s polished edge. “I heard about your accident. The rumors were… dramatic.” But Julian doesn’t respond and she leans in a fraction, dropping her voice to something more personal. “I was going to reach out, but I figured you’d show up in public when you were ready.” He offers her nothing but a nod. That should be my cue to speak and introduce myself, or at least pretend to exist but something about the way she

Kira's POV. “That is a nice top you have on,” one of the huge tattooed men says, stepping forward. “But it doesn’t match the rest of you, though. You look like you belong in a brothel, not in royal silk.” They laugh and my hand grips the edge of the top tighter. “I don’t want any trouble sirs.” “Neither do we,” one says with a grin that makes my skin crawl. “Just want to be friendly.” “Yes, just give us a little taste. That mouth of yours—bet it’s good for more than talking.” Panic claws its way up my throat. I try to dart past him, but another grabs my arm—rough and possessive. “LET GO OF ME!” They don’t. Instead, the one behind me tugs at the hem of my top. Rip!!! The sound shatters me and cold air rushes over my exposed side as my shirt tears. I’m frozen in place. Tears fill my eyes, not from pain but from the fear and humiliation. They don’t even know who I am. Just an omega in the wrong place at the wrong time. A nobody to anyone. “Stop struggling. We’ll b

Kira's POV Okay, so maybe I started it. One comment about trimming Julian's mountain-man look and suddenly I’ve got a salon appointment and a full beauty treatment scheduled like I’m prepping for a royal engagement. I lean back in the car's back seat, arms crossed, dressed in dark blue skinny jeans, a pink blouse, and pink wedges. “For the record,” I say, deadpan, “I suggested a trim—not a full-on makeover.” He doesn’t respond—just smirks like he’s already won something. I glance at him, all smug and unreadable. I only poked fun at his beard because he looked like he hadn’t seen daylight in a decade and I wanted to trim it as a way of saying thank you for the new wardrobe. It wasn’t an invitation for this. “Was this always part of the plan?” I ask. “Or are you just improvising to amuse yourself?” “Both,” he says smoothly. “You said you want people to see me. Seems only fair I return the favor.” I scoff, turning back to the window. This wasn’t supposed to be about ha

Julian's POV. “Okay, fine, I won't fight you for her but be honest brother, are you seriously dating Kira?” Damian mutters beside me, his tone laced with disbelief. He’s been seething quietly ever since I told him to back the fuck off if he won't claim Kira. I don’t look at him. “I’m very serious.” He scoffs. “But she’s an omega and a maid, father won't let you date her let alone—” “That’s not your concern if father allows me or not,” I cut in coolly. “You had your chance, so don't question my decision.” The air between us thickens with tension. I can feel his anger simmering just beneath his calm exterior, and I know it’s only a matter of time before it explodes. But I don’t care because the curtain shifts, and Kira steps out and for a second, I forget to breathe again. Same jumpsuit Katie had on earlier in a different color. But on Kira? Julian's POV. I lean back in my wheelchair, watching the fitting room hallway like it holds the secrets to the universe. Every second stretches like a rubber band ready to snap. My fingers drum slowly on the armrest. I’m calm on the outside as always but inside? Hell, inside, I’m burning to see Kira walk out in anything but her uniform. “What fucking game are you playing Julian? Kira isn't yours,” Damian says beside me, voice low, coiled with barely veiled rage. I smirk without looking at him. “Neither is she yours. Or did you finally grow the balls to claim your mate?” He doesn’t answer right away. His silence is telling and satisfying just like I hoped it would. Damian shifts in his seat like the leather’s too hot. “You’re playing a dangerous game, Julian. She’s not just some plaything.” That pulls a chuckle out of me. “And yet you treat her like one. Or worse. Let’s not pretend you’ve earned the right to protect her now.” His jaw clenches so tight I swear I hear
