Delilah's POV:
The boy's body thumped to the ground. My eyes jumped up to the psychopath holding a knife. He mouthed creepily, “RUN.”Chilly shivers ran down my spine. Turning around, I started running away from the crazy maniac of the man who was staring right into my bones with a creepy smile.Ignoring the sharp branches scrapping my arms, I ran faster than my muscles would allow. Just when I thought that I had enough of a distance between us, a breath knocked out of me as I thudded into something rock hard. I knew who he was. A dark chuckle reverberated in his chest, “Do not let me catch you, little one.”Without lifting my head, I turned around and started sprinting to the other side of the woods. I hadn't gone far when, once again, I crashed into something solid. He must be a great runner. That's the only explanation for how he was catching up to me so easily. I stumbled back and lost my balance. Just when I was about to fall, a big, meaty hand wrapped around my waist and pulled me upward.I inhaled sharply as I flushed against his chest. I was panting heavily after all that running but his broad chest was only rising and falling rhythmically. Digging my feet into the ground, I stabilized myself and took a step back. There was no point in running away now. I was caught by the devil. The way he was towering over me indicated that he must not be less than 6'2" tall. I tilted back my head and my eyes traveled up his chest and took in his broad shoulders before finally resting on his face.I rasped out in a weak voice, “That boy over there..."He cocked his head to one side, "Oh, he'll be alright. Nothing to be worried about."Contrary to the morning when his face was covered with blood and dirt, now I could see his features more clearly. His sharp jawline seemed like it was specially carved with a chisel. Among all his aggressively masculine features, his nose was exceptionally cute. It was a straight and well-defined nose with a round tip.Ignoring the tension building inside me, I gritted out, "Are you insane? You literally slashed his throat." I mumbled weakly, "Lemme see him," and walked around him in the boy's direction.I had only taken a step when a rough hand clasped around my wrist and jerked me back, “You never do as you are told, right?”His eyes, equally striking and deep, were piercing mine. His lips were full and masculine. They seemed beautiful until he stretched them in a snarl, "I don't really like to repeat myself. Now just go away if you don't want to end up like him."I wiggled my wrist out of his grip, “Is throwing threats around like confetti your hobby?”He was amused, “I would suggest you start taking them seriously if…”I stopped him mid-sentence, “Yeah, yeah if I don’t want up dead in these deserted woods.”His head tilted to the side as he mocked me, “You definitely do not look like one but you are intelligent, I guess.”I tried to calm myself and think clearly. I was of no help to that poor boy and the best option was to go from there and call for help.It was as if he heard my thoughts because the next thing he said was, "I would suggest you not call the police."I muttered under my breath, "Any sane person would do that, you dumb."He grinned, "It would be better if you won’t. For you."I had lost the number of times he had threatened me in a span of the last 24 hours. My nostrils flared, "And why is that?"His lip moved once again, "Because if you even dare to call the police, then..."My fists were balled up at my sides, "Then what?"He raised his hand and with those long, slender fingers, he traced my bottom lip. I froze as something hot and electric shot through my body at such an intimate touch. My breathing got heavier when he whispered, "Then I might kiss these lips."His blazing hot stare didn't waver from my lips and after another minute, he pointed to my right, "Keep moving in that direction and you'll reach where you came from," and with that, he was gone.Once my breathing was back to normal, I realized that I was all alone in the woods. I didn't know whether he really guided me in the right direction but I had no other choice but to find that out practically. After about 15 minutes of brisk walking, I could finally hear the faint music from Eric's party. I checked my mobile phone and as soon as the signals showed up, I dialed the police. The officer picked up and I relayed to them whatever I had seen in the woods.Reaching the villa, I saw Adeline outside with Luke. When she saw me approaching, she shrieked joyously, "Deeeeee, where have you beeennn?"She was drunk and leaning against Luke for support. For a moment, I thought to tell her about what I just witnessed but the way she was swaying on her feet, I decided otherwise, "Just exploring the wild.""Ready to go back or want to do some more exploring?" she slurred. After bidding our farewell, we walked to the car. Adeline fell asleep as soon as we settled inside whereas Luke focused on driving so I rested my head against the windowpane and looked at the passing scenery.
After thanking Luke for the ride, I draped Adeline's arm over my shoulder and together we stumbled into the dormitory. Unlocking the door, I dropped Adeline on the bed and crouched down to take off her shoes. When I looked up at her, tears were brimming in her eyes. I frowned, "Hey, Addy, what happened?"Inhaling sharply, she let out a sob, "Luke, please don't ever leave me."I was confused, "He looked so happy with you. He won't ever leave you."Tears flew out of her beautiful eyes as she whimpered, "He will. Once he finds his true mate. They always do that."The line between my brows deepened, "Who? Who does that?"But before I could get my answer, she thumped down on the bed and the next minute, her soft snores echoed. The next morning, I woke up to the beep of alarm. It was 5 am. I set my alarm to go for the morning run as it freshened up my mind for the day. But after yesterday, I was reluctant to go to the woods. So, I opted for the gymnasium that was in the dorm building. At noon, I was packing my stuff to go to my next class when my phone vibrated. I fished it out of my pocket and answered the call. It was the police. I wasn't convinced at all when the officer told me that they had thoroughly searched the woods but had found nothing out of the ordinary and there were no reports of a missing boy by any family.I was shocked. I knew what I saw and nothing of that was ordinary. Not wanting to sound insane, I mumbled my okay and ended the call but I knew all of that wasn't just in my head. I was sure until...Until I stepped out of the class and the first thing I spotted was the boy. The same boy who was killed in the woods. I remembered how his throat was slashed, blood dripped down the sharp blade, and his body thumped to the ground lifelessly.Picking up my pace, I reached him, "Hey, can we talk for a minute?"He stopped in his tracks, "Uh, yeah sure."I nibbled at my bottom lip, "So, um, I saw you last night at the party..."He smiled, "Oh, really?"I nodded my head seriously, "...and then in the woods."The smile instantly vanished from his face and he appeared all jittery and nervous, "I don't know what you're talking about."I enunciated every word, "I clearly saw two men approaching you in the party and then I saw you in the woods behind Eric's house."He started touching his glasses nervously and mumbled, "You've got the wrong guy. I'm sorry but I have to go to the class."He picked up his pace and disappeared into the crowd. God, what in the actual hell was happening here? It's only been two days of me being here and I've already started questioning my sanity.Getting done with all the classes, I gathered my things and left for the dormitory. My stomach was rumbling with hunger and I quickened my steps. I was climbing the stairs when my phone vibrated. It was a message from Adeline telling me that she was going to be at Luke's for the night. I smiled to myself and unlocked the door. Getting in, I locked it back and turned around. My whole body went rigid as a chill ran down my spine. All the lights were off, the only luminosity in the room was because of moonlight peeking through the window. But it was enough for me to recognize the silhouette of the man sitting on the bed. MY BED.Delilah's POV:Heart pounding in the ribcage, I moved my hand to the back as discreetly as possible and grabbed the doorknob. Just when I was about to rotate it, a gravel voice echoed in the room, "I wouldn't do that if I were you." My hand stilled and my mind went blank. I knew who he was even though I could not see him. How could I even forget that deep, dangerous voice? The sane part of me told me to turn around and run the hell out of there. But an even saner part knew that defying him wasn't an option.I opened my mouth to shout at him but what left my mouth was a mere whisper, "Why are you here? And what do you want?" The whisper was so low that I wondered whether I had only thought it in my head but he seemed to hear me loud and clear. The silhouetted head tilted to the right and I knew he was smirking as he said, "I always fulfill what I say," the devil took a small pause during which my anxiety peaked higher, "and I am here to do just that." My eyebrows deepened and I final
Xander's POV:I jumped down the window and shifted into my wolf form mid-air. Ever since I had met that girl one day ago in the woods, my wolf was a jittery mess. The emotions she stirred inside me were undescribable and I didn't even know why. She was a mere human being and feeling this inclination toward a human was not ordinary for a Lycan King.Back in the pack mansion, I went straight to my office to look into the documents regarding business. Flopping down the chair, I grabbed the file but all the words and numbers couldn't divert my mind from that pair of beautiful hazel eyes. Unconsciously, I licked my lips and I could still taste her on my lips. The girl I didn't even know the name of was making me addicted to herself. There was a light knock on the door and Antonio, my Beta, seemed 50 years old in human appearance but in reality, he had lived for more than 900 years. He was much, much older than me who was 28 years in the human calender but had lived for 300 years.Antonia lo
Delilah's POV:It had been a week since the start of my college and I was glad that Adeline and I had bonded over the week and other than her, I had made one more friend, Dorian. He was a cute, shy guy whom I met in the library about three days ago. He was a total nerd who liked to read cute romcoms.Ever since that day, we used to meet up in the library after our classes, sit down beside each other, and read our books in complete silence. I had always dated guys like Dorian. Introverts, shy, and nerds so it was pretty shocking when no butterflies flapped their wings in my stomach this time. There was only one man who was haunting me in my dreams now. That stranger, whose name I didn't even know. But despite all that, I've been unable to chase him out of my mind. Instinct told me to stay away from him but I wanted to know all about that man.Whenever I'd close my eyes, his image would appear in my mind. His strong build, firm body, and handsome features. And the way he kissed me. Just
Delilah's POV:My eyes widened with pure fear, I was looking out the kitchen window. Even though I was unable to understand what actually was going to happen still in my mind, I knew it would be bad.Animals. So many of them. Lethal and brutal. Gigantic and monstrous. All clad in black fur. A huge hound of them was making their way to our home. Their sharp fangs were glinting in the moonlight, eyes glowing red with rage.My heart was pounding in my chest but I was just unable to move. Just a moment later, someone switched off the light, and I gasped when calloused hands wrapped around my ribcage and swept me up in the air.Out in the living room, I was put back on my feet and came face to face with my dad. Mom came running towards me and she was a sobbing mess whereas my father's face was etched with hard lines. He opened his mouth to say something and right at that moment, a man strode into the living room. His face appeared sad and his eyes were full of grief as he reported to my dad
Xander's POV:The next morning, I was out on the ground that we used as the training center. It was 5 in the morning and the pack members were getting ready for the training session. Lucas, my gamma, was standing beside me, eyeing everyone with an assessing gaze. He was about 100 years old but in human years, he was not more than 25. He had fought in many supernatural battles and due to his tactics and strategies, he was the head of the military and training of the pack members.I, with other pack members, attended the training session every morning. It gave the pack a sense of unity and strength and motivated them to do better. Lucas trained us in both human and lycan forms. After vigorous training, I was heading back to my residential wing in the mansion when Antonio fell in line with me, "Alpha, Daniel Hunter is asking to meet you at his residence."My footsteps halted. I turned toward Antonio and passed him a very slight but vicious smile to which he quickly responded with, "Of cou
Xander’s POV:The next morning, my wolf was all jittery and edgy. Whether I liked it or not, what Antonio said last night wasn't wrong.I knew what was going to help clear my mind. Jogging into the weapon room, I grabbed an axe and walked off into the woods. I kept walking until I reached the area where we had cut down a few trees. Logs were kept on the ground so that they could dry.I was THE Lycan King, the most powerful and the most barbarous. How could I even feel a tiny bit of 'something' for someone who wasn't my mate? Thinking to myself, I jerked off my shirt.Carrying a huge trunk, I placed it on the slab of rock and raised the ax above my head. With one swift strike, I cut the log into two pieces. I walked back to the logs and carried another trunk on my shoulder. And that's when I heard the sound of dry leaves being rustled under the feet. When I turned around, I saw the same girl I was running away from. Her body was frozen at the spot but her wide eyes were constantly movin
Delilah's POV: Shock zinged through my body as I took in the scene in front of me. My eyes kept shifting between him and the gigantic tree trunk mounted over his shoulder. Neither a bead of sweat nor a sign of panting. He was clearly annoyed by my presence and when I asked him how in the realm of reality was it possible, he threw a pathetic excuse of workout at me. I was still recovering from the chaotic shock when he pointed his index finger toward the muscles packed on his frame. My eyes roamed over his wheat complexion and hungrily took in his chiseled chest protruding out with muscles and his abdomen carved with sexy abs. My finger itched to poke his muscles just to find out how hard they were. His arms were covered with thick veins that were every girl's wet dream. This man, gosh, he was the epitome of masculinity and beauty. I gawked at his half-naked body shamelessly as little explosions of desire erupted inside me. He was such a sight to behold and ignoring it felt like a ma
Delilah’s POV: Bianca was stunned too but she never screamed in pain. Her hold on Cassandra's hair loosened and taking advantage of the moment, I pushed her away. I kneeled down beside Cassandra and wiped away the tears from her face. Over us, Bianca seethed with rage, "Who the fuck are you, and why the hell do you keep interfering in my matters?" My eyes snapped to her, "By matters, do you mean bullying, torturing, and harassing?" Now there was a dead silence in the hall. By the time, Bianca opened her mouth to retort, a shrilling sound of bell echoed. Mumbling to each other, students started dispersing off toward the exit. Me and Bianca were in a hot staring contest with none of us taking our eyes away. Throwing daggers with those eyes, Bianca finally said through gritted teeth, "You...I don't give a fuck who you really are." Pointing a finger at me, she bit out, "But know one thing, interfere in my business again and you'll be found dead in a ditch." Addy gasped in horror. Sh
EPILOGUE AFTER 7 YEARS: Delilah's POV: "But Mommy, I asked for the chocolate cake. I do not like pineapple one." Elina stated with finality. "Why does it matter, Ellie? It's okay if mommy couldn't get a chocolate cake," responded Liam. At that, Elina narrowed her eyes menacingly at her brother and reprimanded the innocent soul, "Some of us do have tastes and standards, Lee. It's my birthday, I get to have all that I want today." "As if that doesn't happen every other day of the year," Adeline chuckled. Elina pretended to gasp and hooked her hands on her hips, "Aunt Addy, that's not fair. You ought to be on the girls' team." Liam reminded her as an afterthought, "By the way, it's my birthday too." Eline tried to roll her eyes, another thing she had learned from her beloved Aunt Addy, "Ugh, please don't keep reminding me that. I don't like the fact that I even have to share a birthday with you, Liam." I have no idea how I got to have two kids with completely different personali
Delilah's POV:A moment later, the whole lawn glowed in the soft, golden glow. The whole setup was looking even more beautiful at night, exceeding all of my expectations. His footsteps halted as Xee was taken aback by the arrangements. Tilting his head to the sides, he assessed the whole area twinkling in the fairy lights and fresh flower decor. And then, his eyes widened as they landed on me. He took his time to gawk at me from head to toe multiple times, reincarnating all the butterflies in my stomach. Resuming his steps, which were slower now, he walked over to me. Grabbing my hand in a gentle hold, he lifted it and placed a soft kiss on its back, "I am 100% sure that I am not forgetting any important date. It isn't your birthday today nor any important day for us." I let out a soft chuckle, "You are kinda right." Letting go of my hand, he wrapped his big palms around my waist and whispered in my ear, "Then to what do I owe the pleasure to behold such a glamorous beauty today?"
Delilah's POV:It was that time of the year. The Claiming Ball was to be held by the Lycan/ Werewolf Council so that all the unmated males and females come in proximity and have a chance to meet their fated mates. As a member of the council, I and Xee were invited to attend the Claiming Ball and we had a good chuckle at the remembrance of our bittersweet memories of the last Ball.I was standing at the side while unmated males and females indulged themselves in the dance as per ritual. My eyes spotted Xee busy in a conversation with the other members of the Council.I was just about to make my way over to him when a tall figure blocked my way. I lifted my head to find a young man whom I had never seen before.I tilted my head to the side, "Have we met before?"He kept staring at me and then finally shook his head, "I hate to say this but no, we haven't met before."My eyebrows creased together. He was probably from some other territory who was attending the annual ball in the hope of
Delilah's POV: The next morning, I woke up to the sound of commotion. My eyes peeked open and I yawned, already feeling the soreness in my body. I winced at the pain when I stood up and slowly walked to the window. My eyes widened with shock as I saw Ethan standing in front of the mansion, hollering at the top of his lungs, "I don't give a fuck. Let me go inside this instant or otherwise..." He clamped his mouth shut when a new guard stopped by the gate, "The King said to let him inside." The guards opened the gate and Ethan huffed angrily before making his way inside the mansion. What the hell was he doing here? Quicking donning my PJs, I made my way downstairs slowly, thanks to the soreness. I arrived in the hall just in time to see Ethan entering. Xee was sitting on the couch in a suit, sipping his black coffee whereas Ethan was looking all disheveled and upset. He stopped in front of Xee and yelled, "What the hell is wrong with you?" Xee kept his calm and only raised his eye
Delilah's POV: As a wedding present, Xee had gifted the Europe tour for Luke and Addy. Due to some issue with tickets, they had to leave the night of the wedding day. After the reception was over and the guests were gone, we returned to the mansion. Everything seemed to happen in a fast motion and none of us rested until after bidding farewell to the newlywed couple for their honeymoon. It was only once they were gone had I returned to my room. It was such a hectic day and I couldn't wait to don my comfortable PJs and hit the soft mattress. Standing in front of the vanity, I was removing my makeup when the door flung open. In came the Lycan King, looking heavenly gorgeous in the black tuxedo. Hot lava spilled inside me as I noticed his eyes traveling down my body. His hand curved around the nape of his neck and he smiled, "You were looking so beautiful today that it was practically impossible to peel my eyes off of you." I knew he was right. I had constantly felt a pair of eyes g
3 Months Later: Delilah's POV:"I am really getting concerned about you, Delilah," I heard Xee behind me.I looked over my shoulder and found him with a tray in his hands, "Why is that?"He placed the tray holding a glass of milk and cookies on the coffee table and walked over to my desk, "Because for the last 3 months, you've been working nonstop."I let out a soft chuckle, "Now you are exaggerating."His eyebrow quivered higher, "No, I am not. Can't remember the time when I've not seen you hunched up on the desk, sticking your nose in all those books, jotting down your notes, and whatnot."Well, he was kind of right about that. Lately, I have been having a really hectic routine. After waking up early in the morning, I'd go to training. After breakfast, I'd be in the clinic that Xee had recently built me in his territory. I have been working hard to polish my skills as a Healer.I have started treating patients and I loved interacting with all the people. Occasionally, I'd even go on
Delilah's POV:Once again, I became the target of everyone's attention but I didn't let the nervousness or panic get hold of me as they all turned their eyes toward me.Instead, I took a deep breath and got up from my seat. Addy rushed in my direction, "What happened, Dee? Why are you interrupting?"I made a mental note to have a proper talk with Addy after returning to the mansion but for now, I had something more important to take care of.Without responding to her, I turned around and jumped down the stage. Gasps chorused around me as I landed on the Duel Ground but I paid none of it any heed.I kept walking to where Xee was pinning Ryan to the ground. The frown between Xee's brows deepened. He opened the mindlink, "What are you doing here?"He didn't sound pleased at all. Well, we were on the same page then. Shutting the mindlink down, I reached him. I tried to keep my calm but my nostrils still flared when I ordered Xee, "Get off of him, Alpha."A flash of betrayal shone in Xee's
Delilah's POV:"What have you been doing all day?" Addy asked curiously.I closed the journal I was writing on and shrugged lightly, "Just working on a few important things."Her gaze shifted to my study table but she passed no comment. Nodding her head, she said, "I am waiting downstairs. Be quick."Resisting the urge to roll my eyes, I turned toward my closet and took out a pair of black jeans and a black shirt. It took me no more than fifteen minutes to get ready. When I climbed down the stairs, I noticed that the mansion was eerily quiet and empty. My eyes swept the area, "Has everybody gone to the duel?"Addy raised her eyebrow and remarked, "Who exactly would want to miss the chance to experience such a duel?"At this point, I was confirmed that my best friend had gone crazy just by living among the lycans for a few months. The car was already waiting for us outside the mansion. As soon as we settled inside, the driver revved up the engine and started driving toward the Council
Delilah's POV:In the room, I kept pacing the floor restlessly with a thousand thoughts swirling in my mind. It was only when I heard a knock on the door I took a breath of relief.I rushed to open the door and inhaled sharply at the sight of Isabella standing on the other side with a cup of coffee.I ushered her inside and closed the door behind her. She smiled lightly and placed the cup on the coffee table. She was about to go back when I blocked her way to the door. She eyed me nervously. I wondered whether she was thinking the same thing that I was.My eyebrow quivered higher as I inquired, "What do you know about Ryan Hooper, Isabella?"Her eyes widened as she swallowed the lump in her throat, "We are not to talk about him in this mansion."I closed my eyes for a moment and tried to make her understand calmly, "I don't care about that, Isabella. Just know that it is very important for me to know all that you do."She fidgeted her fingers together nervously, weighing her options.
