Xander's POV:
I jumped down the window and shifted into my wolf form mid-air. Ever since I had met that girl one day ago in the woods, my wolf was a jittery mess. The emotions she stirred inside me were undescribable and I didn't even know why. She was a mere human being and feeling this inclination toward a human was not ordinary for a Lycan King.Back in the pack mansion, I went straight to my office to look into the documents regarding business. Flopping down the chair, I grabbed the file but all the words and numbers couldn't divert my mind from that pair of beautiful hazel eyes. Unconsciously, I licked my lips and I could still taste her on my lips. The girl I didn't even know the name of was making me addicted to herself. There was a light knock on the door and Antonio, my Beta, seemed 50 years old in human appearance but in reality, he had lived for more than 900 years. He was much, much older than me who was 28 years in the human calender but had lived for 300 years.Antonia looked at the phone in his hand, "Xander."I eyed the phone and then at him to explain. Taking the seat, he started, "There has been some problem at the port. Our shipments are not getting clearance tonight."Anger crept under my skin, "Is it Aiden again?"Antonio nodded, "Aiden gave a tip to the deputy chief of police about our opium shipments."I leaned back in my chair, "Why are we having a problem with the deputy chief when the chief himself is in our pockets?"Antonio suggested, "Should I call him?"Tilting my head to the side, I smirked, "Call Aiden instead. Time to have a little fun."Aiden picked up on the second ring, "Seems like the news has finally reached your ears, buddy."I replied in a calm tone, "From where I am sitting, it seems like you have finally lost your mind, little lycan."He chuckled, "I would love to know why you think so."I sighed boringly, "Come to my mansion. And I'll let you know."He snickered on the other end, "Is it a threat?"I feigned innocence, "Just an invitation." I paused and then said, "Oh, and you would want to be here immediately if you don't want to pack up your illegal business."Before he could utter another word, I declined the call. Referring to Antonio, I commanded, "Call chief if Aiden isn't here in fifteen minutes."I was going through my emails when the rotten smell wafted in my nostrils. My fun was ruined by the arrival of Aiden. I was actually hoping that he would refuse to come here and then I would get a chance to play this game on my own terms.Antonio led Aiden into my office who greeted me by saying, "Does the great Lycan King, Xander Stoneheart, need my help with his shipments?"With a dangerous calmness, I stared at the bastard. When I remained silent, Aiden proceeded nonchalantly, "You can just kneel down in front of me and beg. And you'll face no such issue ever again."I could feel the anger steaming off Antonio. As his alpha, I could very clearly tell how he wanted to rip Aiden apart. Getting bored of the show, I finally slid my laptop around and hit the play button. Aiden's face went pale and as the video kept playing, the color kept bleaching off his face. Taking pity on the poor lycan, I hit pause, "Is it enough to bring you back to your senses?"Aiden's eyes widened, "What is it?"I smirked viciously, "It does look like the video from one of the private cabins in your casino. And from the looks of it, three well-known politicians are having a little chit-chat about the black money and funds embezzlement."Aiden's eyes were wide open. Rising from my chair, I continued, "Your casino guarantees 100% privacy, right? Isn't that why it is prospering so fast?"He stammered, "You bastard...where did you get it?"My malicious chuckle boomed around the room, "Are you asking me that for real?" Leaning against the desk, I continued, "I can't believe that you ever thought that anything going on in those little casinos of yours can stay away from my eyes and ears."He opened his mouth to say something but I cut him off, "The games you are playing, well, I have come this far by playing those." Folding my feet at the ankles, I stated proudly, "There is a reason why I am the Lycan King whereas you are just an ordinary alpha."He was still not recovered from the shock.I asked him curiously, "Now, do you want me to send this footage to the prosecutor's office or these politicians? You can decide for yourself."The scent of misery and fear was oozing off Aiden as he shrieked, "You can't do that."For a moment, I nodded my head, and then sighed out, "Of course, you are one of my own kind. You are an alpha and have a whole pack to look after. Leaking this one video would finish your whole business in an instant."Relief was appearing on his features which was, unfortunately, only short-lived because of the next thing I uttered, "But, dear Aiden, don't you think we all have to pay the price of our deeds?"He took a step closer and stammered desperately, "Just name it, Xander. I would do anyt...""Kneel down. Beg. And have the taste of your own medicine," I commanded him.All the bravery and cunning left his body as his knees instantly hit the ground in front of me. Lowering his head, he rushed out, "I am sorry, Xander. Forgive me. I beg you not to destroy what I have built in so many decades."I straightened my shoulders and hissed, "None of us is pure in any regard. And both of us have our hands deep into black stuff. Let's just not judge each other and refrain from interfering in each other's business matters from now on."He nodded profusely, "I'll keep that in mind."Without wasting another second, I turned to Antonio, "Take him out of my mansion."Antonio returned to the office and asked away, "Why did you let him go, Xander?"I stared out the window into the dark night, "We don't kill one of our own, Antonio. The population of Lycans is already dwindling. I am a Lycan King, how can I set an example to kill our fellow Lycan over anything so small?" I looked back at Antonio, "And don't forget that Aiden and I had a history."Antonio was baffled by my answer, "You are a Lycan King. You cannot be swayed by the events or relations of the past, Xander. And it isn't like you were the one who betrayed him. Aiden was the one who refused to accept you as his king."Still staring out, I mumbled, "But there was a time we used to be best friends. More than brothers."Antonio was quick to reply, "And then jealousy got the better of him."I made my way back to the chair and changed the subject, "About yesterday's attack, who do you think could be behind it?"Antonio immediately got into Beta mode, "I am still looking into it. It can't be anyone from our kind because the bullets that got you were made of silver and coated with a heavy dose of wolfsbane."After another minute, I muttered, "I think I know the mind behind that attack."Antonio's muscles stretched with anger, "Name him, King."I looked into my Beta's blue glowing eyes before answering, "Daniel Hunter."He was taken aback by the revelation, "Daniel Hunter? The one who belongs to the Hunter family of the UK?"I nodded my head in slow motion, "Yes, the same Hunter family who is known about their history of hunting the supernatural kinds in the name of keeping a fucking balance in the world."Antonio stiffened, "And they are back to hunt more of us. What are your orders?"Of course, I wanted to rip the fucker apart for attacking me yesterday but it was a great opportunity for me. I must keep my calm and make use of this whole situation, "Let him stir some more trouble before we take him out once and for all."Antonio was agitated. Something else was bothering him. Leaning closer, I inquired, "What's bothering you so much, Beta?"Antonio stayed quiet for a long moment and then stared out into the darkness, "I can smell her all over you, Xander."My wolf stiffened with possessiveness at the fact that another male could smell her. Why? Wolves are only possessive about their fated mates. When I didn't reply, Antonio asked a simple yet most complicated question, "Is she your mate, Lycan King?"Hi, readers! I hope you are enjoying the story so far. I just wanted to tell you all that English is not my first language but I always try to proofread twice or thrice before finally uploading the chapters. But if there are still some grammatical mistakes, please excuse the author. I'll learn with time :) Love you all. Hami <3
Delilah's POV:It had been a week since the start of my college and I was glad that Adeline and I had bonded over the week and other than her, I had made one more friend, Dorian. He was a cute, shy guy whom I met in the library about three days ago. He was a total nerd who liked to read cute romcoms.Ever since that day, we used to meet up in the library after our classes, sit down beside each other, and read our books in complete silence. I had always dated guys like Dorian. Introverts, shy, and nerds so it was pretty shocking when no butterflies flapped their wings in my stomach this time. There was only one man who was haunting me in my dreams now. That stranger, whose name I didn't even know. But despite all that, I've been unable to chase him out of my mind. Instinct told me to stay away from him but I wanted to know all about that man.Whenever I'd close my eyes, his image would appear in my mind. His strong build, firm body, and handsome features. And the way he kissed me. Just
Delilah's POV:My eyes widened with pure fear, I was looking out the kitchen window. Even though I was unable to understand what actually was going to happen still in my mind, I knew it would be bad.Animals. So many of them. Lethal and brutal. Gigantic and monstrous. All clad in black fur. A huge hound of them was making their way to our home. Their sharp fangs were glinting in the moonlight, eyes glowing red with rage.My heart was pounding in my chest but I was just unable to move. Just a moment later, someone switched off the light, and I gasped when calloused hands wrapped around my ribcage and swept me up in the air.Out in the living room, I was put back on my feet and came face to face with my dad. Mom came running towards me and she was a sobbing mess whereas my father's face was etched with hard lines. He opened his mouth to say something and right at that moment, a man strode into the living room. His face appeared sad and his eyes were full of grief as he reported to my dad
Xander's POV:The next morning, I was out on the ground that we used as the training center. It was 5 in the morning and the pack members were getting ready for the training session. Lucas, my gamma, was standing beside me, eyeing everyone with an assessing gaze. He was about 100 years old but in human years, he was not more than 25. He had fought in many supernatural battles and due to his tactics and strategies, he was the head of the military and training of the pack members.I, with other pack members, attended the training session every morning. It gave the pack a sense of unity and strength and motivated them to do better. Lucas trained us in both human and lycan forms. After vigorous training, I was heading back to my residential wing in the mansion when Antonio fell in line with me, "Alpha, Daniel Hunter is asking to meet you at his residence."My footsteps halted. I turned toward Antonio and passed him a very slight but vicious smile to which he quickly responded with, "Of cou
Xander’s POV:The next morning, my wolf was all jittery and edgy. Whether I liked it or not, what Antonio said last night wasn't wrong.I knew what was going to help clear my mind. Jogging into the weapon room, I grabbed an axe and walked off into the woods. I kept walking until I reached the area where we had cut down a few trees. Logs were kept on the ground so that they could dry.I was THE Lycan King, the most powerful and the most barbarous. How could I even feel a tiny bit of 'something' for someone who wasn't my mate? Thinking to myself, I jerked off my shirt.Carrying a huge trunk, I placed it on the slab of rock and raised the ax above my head. With one swift strike, I cut the log into two pieces. I walked back to the logs and carried another trunk on my shoulder. And that's when I heard the sound of dry leaves being rustled under the feet. When I turned around, I saw the same girl I was running away from. Her body was frozen at the spot but her wide eyes were constantly movin
Delilah's POV: Shock zinged through my body as I took in the scene in front of me. My eyes kept shifting between him and the gigantic tree trunk mounted over his shoulder. Neither a bead of sweat nor a sign of panting. He was clearly annoyed by my presence and when I asked him how in the realm of reality was it possible, he threw a pathetic excuse of workout at me. I was still recovering from the chaotic shock when he pointed his index finger toward the muscles packed on his frame. My eyes roamed over his wheat complexion and hungrily took in his chiseled chest protruding out with muscles and his abdomen carved with sexy abs. My finger itched to poke his muscles just to find out how hard they were. His arms were covered with thick veins that were every girl's wet dream. This man, gosh, he was the epitome of masculinity and beauty. I gawked at his half-naked body shamelessly as little explosions of desire erupted inside me. He was such a sight to behold and ignoring it felt like a ma
Delilah’s POV: Bianca was stunned too but she never screamed in pain. Her hold on Cassandra's hair loosened and taking advantage of the moment, I pushed her away. I kneeled down beside Cassandra and wiped away the tears from her face. Over us, Bianca seethed with rage, "Who the fuck are you, and why the hell do you keep interfering in my matters?" My eyes snapped to her, "By matters, do you mean bullying, torturing, and harassing?" Now there was a dead silence in the hall. By the time, Bianca opened her mouth to retort, a shrilling sound of bell echoed. Mumbling to each other, students started dispersing off toward the exit. Me and Bianca were in a hot staring contest with none of us taking our eyes away. Throwing daggers with those eyes, Bianca finally said through gritted teeth, "You...I don't give a fuck who you really are." Pointing a finger at me, she bit out, "But know one thing, interfere in my business again and you'll be found dead in a ditch." Addy gasped in horror. Sh
Xander's POV:She jerked around. Hard and fast. Eyes filled with shock were piercing mine. This closer, I could literally hear the erratic beating of her heart. For a moment, she searched my face whether I was joking but something in her demeanour told me that she already knew. Her throat bobbed as she swallowed hard and digested the information. She nodded slowly and then her eyebrows dipped lower as she thought for a few seconds and then asked, "Are you here to hurt me?" The question itself was a blow to my heart. My wolf growled just at the thought. I wanted to touch her, whether to soothe her or myself was another question. But I stayed still and whispered through clenched teeth, "I'd prefer death over doing such a thing." She sucked in a sharp breath. I was aware of the rise and fall of her chest as her breathing grew heavier. I must admit, this girl was brave. Even after knowing that I wasn't a human being, she was standing firmly in front of me. My gaze traveled to her plump
Delilah's POV:One second he was flushed against me, gawking at me like he was starving to death and I was his favorite meal, and the very next second, he was up and out the window. No answers, no explanations. My head was a jumbled mess of chaos and excitement. I was stunned at my own reaction. Instead of freaking out at his confession, asking him exactly what he was and what the hell he was doing in my room, I kept standing there like a dummy. And that kiss? What was that and why was I the one to initiate it? I was seriously losing hold of my senses. The revelation itself wasn't much of a shock for me. Maybe after what I had been witnessing in the past few days, I kind of had an idea. I mean, what human could possess such power and speed? I had so many questions about the situation. I still have. Millions of them. But damn, those intense eyes and the intoxicating scent seemed to cloud my sense of thinking every time he was in close vicinity.Sighing, I turned to the other side and i
EPILOGUE AFTER 7 YEARS: Delilah's POV: "But Mommy, I asked for the chocolate cake. I do not like pineapple one." Elina stated with finality. "Why does it matter, Ellie? It's okay if mommy couldn't get a chocolate cake," responded Liam. At that, Elina narrowed her eyes menacingly at her brother and reprimanded the innocent soul, "Some of us do have tastes and standards, Lee. It's my birthday, I get to have all that I want today." "As if that doesn't happen every other day of the year," Adeline chuckled. Elina pretended to gasp and hooked her hands on her hips, "Aunt Addy, that's not fair. You ought to be on the girls' team." Liam reminded her as an afterthought, "By the way, it's my birthday too." Eline tried to roll her eyes, another thing she had learned from her beloved Aunt Addy, "Ugh, please don't keep reminding me that. I don't like the fact that I even have to share a birthday with you, Liam." I have no idea how I got to have two kids with completely different personali
Delilah's POV:A moment later, the whole lawn glowed in the soft, golden glow. The whole setup was looking even more beautiful at night, exceeding all of my expectations. His footsteps halted as Xee was taken aback by the arrangements. Tilting his head to the sides, he assessed the whole area twinkling in the fairy lights and fresh flower decor. And then, his eyes widened as they landed on me. He took his time to gawk at me from head to toe multiple times, reincarnating all the butterflies in my stomach. Resuming his steps, which were slower now, he walked over to me. Grabbing my hand in a gentle hold, he lifted it and placed a soft kiss on its back, "I am 100% sure that I am not forgetting any important date. It isn't your birthday today nor any important day for us." I let out a soft chuckle, "You are kinda right." Letting go of my hand, he wrapped his big palms around my waist and whispered in my ear, "Then to what do I owe the pleasure to behold such a glamorous beauty today?"
Delilah's POV:It was that time of the year. The Claiming Ball was to be held by the Lycan/ Werewolf Council so that all the unmated males and females come in proximity and have a chance to meet their fated mates. As a member of the council, I and Xee were invited to attend the Claiming Ball and we had a good chuckle at the remembrance of our bittersweet memories of the last Ball.I was standing at the side while unmated males and females indulged themselves in the dance as per ritual. My eyes spotted Xee busy in a conversation with the other members of the Council.I was just about to make my way over to him when a tall figure blocked my way. I lifted my head to find a young man whom I had never seen before.I tilted my head to the side, "Have we met before?"He kept staring at me and then finally shook his head, "I hate to say this but no, we haven't met before."My eyebrows creased together. He was probably from some other territory who was attending the annual ball in the hope of
Delilah's POV: The next morning, I woke up to the sound of commotion. My eyes peeked open and I yawned, already feeling the soreness in my body. I winced at the pain when I stood up and slowly walked to the window. My eyes widened with shock as I saw Ethan standing in front of the mansion, hollering at the top of his lungs, "I don't give a fuck. Let me go inside this instant or otherwise..." He clamped his mouth shut when a new guard stopped by the gate, "The King said to let him inside." The guards opened the gate and Ethan huffed angrily before making his way inside the mansion. What the hell was he doing here? Quicking donning my PJs, I made my way downstairs slowly, thanks to the soreness. I arrived in the hall just in time to see Ethan entering. Xee was sitting on the couch in a suit, sipping his black coffee whereas Ethan was looking all disheveled and upset. He stopped in front of Xee and yelled, "What the hell is wrong with you?" Xee kept his calm and only raised his eye
Delilah's POV: As a wedding present, Xee had gifted the Europe tour for Luke and Addy. Due to some issue with tickets, they had to leave the night of the wedding day. After the reception was over and the guests were gone, we returned to the mansion. Everything seemed to happen in a fast motion and none of us rested until after bidding farewell to the newlywed couple for their honeymoon. It was only once they were gone had I returned to my room. It was such a hectic day and I couldn't wait to don my comfortable PJs and hit the soft mattress. Standing in front of the vanity, I was removing my makeup when the door flung open. In came the Lycan King, looking heavenly gorgeous in the black tuxedo. Hot lava spilled inside me as I noticed his eyes traveling down my body. His hand curved around the nape of his neck and he smiled, "You were looking so beautiful today that it was practically impossible to peel my eyes off of you." I knew he was right. I had constantly felt a pair of eyes g
3 Months Later: Delilah's POV:"I am really getting concerned about you, Delilah," I heard Xee behind me.I looked over my shoulder and found him with a tray in his hands, "Why is that?"He placed the tray holding a glass of milk and cookies on the coffee table and walked over to my desk, "Because for the last 3 months, you've been working nonstop."I let out a soft chuckle, "Now you are exaggerating."His eyebrow quivered higher, "No, I am not. Can't remember the time when I've not seen you hunched up on the desk, sticking your nose in all those books, jotting down your notes, and whatnot."Well, he was kind of right about that. Lately, I have been having a really hectic routine. After waking up early in the morning, I'd go to training. After breakfast, I'd be in the clinic that Xee had recently built me in his territory. I have been working hard to polish my skills as a Healer.I have started treating patients and I loved interacting with all the people. Occasionally, I'd even go on
Delilah's POV:Once again, I became the target of everyone's attention but I didn't let the nervousness or panic get hold of me as they all turned their eyes toward me.Instead, I took a deep breath and got up from my seat. Addy rushed in my direction, "What happened, Dee? Why are you interrupting?"I made a mental note to have a proper talk with Addy after returning to the mansion but for now, I had something more important to take care of.Without responding to her, I turned around and jumped down the stage. Gasps chorused around me as I landed on the Duel Ground but I paid none of it any heed.I kept walking to where Xee was pinning Ryan to the ground. The frown between Xee's brows deepened. He opened the mindlink, "What are you doing here?"He didn't sound pleased at all. Well, we were on the same page then. Shutting the mindlink down, I reached him. I tried to keep my calm but my nostrils still flared when I ordered Xee, "Get off of him, Alpha."A flash of betrayal shone in Xee's
Delilah's POV:"What have you been doing all day?" Addy asked curiously.I closed the journal I was writing on and shrugged lightly, "Just working on a few important things."Her gaze shifted to my study table but she passed no comment. Nodding her head, she said, "I am waiting downstairs. Be quick."Resisting the urge to roll my eyes, I turned toward my closet and took out a pair of black jeans and a black shirt. It took me no more than fifteen minutes to get ready. When I climbed down the stairs, I noticed that the mansion was eerily quiet and empty. My eyes swept the area, "Has everybody gone to the duel?"Addy raised her eyebrow and remarked, "Who exactly would want to miss the chance to experience such a duel?"At this point, I was confirmed that my best friend had gone crazy just by living among the lycans for a few months. The car was already waiting for us outside the mansion. As soon as we settled inside, the driver revved up the engine and started driving toward the Council
Delilah's POV:In the room, I kept pacing the floor restlessly with a thousand thoughts swirling in my mind. It was only when I heard a knock on the door I took a breath of relief.I rushed to open the door and inhaled sharply at the sight of Isabella standing on the other side with a cup of coffee.I ushered her inside and closed the door behind her. She smiled lightly and placed the cup on the coffee table. She was about to go back when I blocked her way to the door. She eyed me nervously. I wondered whether she was thinking the same thing that I was.My eyebrow quivered higher as I inquired, "What do you know about Ryan Hooper, Isabella?"Her eyes widened as she swallowed the lump in her throat, "We are not to talk about him in this mansion."I closed my eyes for a moment and tried to make her understand calmly, "I don't care about that, Isabella. Just know that it is very important for me to know all that you do."She fidgeted her fingers together nervously, weighing her options.
