I scoffed. If it wasn’t Giovanni, then… who?

I stood in front of the mirror, adjusting the red skirt and suit I had put on. The sharp lines of the outfit hugged me perfectly, making me look confident. I pulled my hair back into a neat ponytail, with the strands falling neatly into place, and finished with a bold layer of red lipstick. My jewelry—earrings, bracelets, and a necklace shone softly under the light. Polished. Composed. Exactly how I needed to look.

"Have you forgotten that you were injured last night? You must’ve gotten the scents mixed up," I said to Vivi as I grabbed my black bag from the table.

"I guess so," she murmured in my mind.

I brushing off the nagging thought as I stepped out of my room. My heels clicked against the floor as I walked swiftly down the hallway, but my mind drifted to Harry. Without thinking, my pace quickened.

When I reached his door, I turned the knob and pushed it open without hesitation. There he was, already awake, sitting comfortably

EVELYNMy heart stuttered, my breath hitching as an icy grip tightened around my chest. My fists clenched at my sides, nails biting into my palms as I dragged in a shaky breath, deliberately avoiding his piercing gaze. “What the heck are you talking about? You should leave, John. It’s obvious she doesn’t want you here,” Reuben bellowed looking at him like he wants to throw a fist at his face. “I’m waiting for my answer, Evelyn,” John interrupted with a firm voice. His eyes never left me.“I… I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I stammered, my voice barely above a whisper. My throat tightened as tears threatened to spill, but I swallowed hard, determined not to break down in front of him. “Wait.” Reuben tilted his head, his voice dripping with disbelief as he turned to John. “Are you trying to say that Harry and Harriet are your kids?” John let out a heavy sigh. “This,” he said, raising the paper in his hand. "is the evidence to prove they are my biological children. Evelyn

EVELYNI slapped my hands over my mouth, breathing quickly and shallowly. My chest tightened as disbelief took over. I gripped the edge of the table, trying to stay still as my legs wobbled beneath me. A bitter scoff escaped my lips."So... So that means he deceived me?" I whispered, my voice shaking."He just wanted the information, Evelyn," he muttered. "And now he has it. I’m honestly shocked. No wonder, whenever I asked about the father of your kids, you always said he was dead. Why didn’t you tell me? Didn’t you trust me?"He crossed his arms tightly over his chest, staring at me with disappointment. I shook my head, unable to meet his eyes."It’s not like that, Reuben," I said quickly. "I just wanted to keep it from certain people… to protect my kids from finding out.""Oh! So that means I'm a blabbermouth?" he replied, raising an eyebrow.I shot him a sharp side-eye with a small chuckle. We don’t want to vote you out and give this project to your competitors, but...""I understand, sir," I replied quietly, trying to stay calm.He leaned forward, placing his hands on the table. "Show us proof that they’re recovering well, Ms. Evelyn. We need to know everything is under control. Don’t just tell us it’s fine, we need to see it. Otherwise, this might not go well for you."I took a deep breath, feeling the pressure of their judgment. Or do you think just because you are the mayor’s son, I won’t do something about it?"Evelyn froze, her breath catching in her throat. Her eyes widened as she processed his words. The mayor’s son? DIANE“Well, I did my part. Is that why he had to defend her in front of you?" His laced with curiosity, but then he added in a low disgusting voice. "Well, she does look prettier than you, though." His comment hit like a slap as my hands curled into fists at my sides. I didn’t need him to remind me of what I already knew. The memory of the meeting earlier today flashed vividly in my mind, the sting still fresh. I could remember it so clearly, John standing up for that wretched woman.I forced a smile, masking the hurt gnawing at me.“I was expecting better from you, Alpha Romain,” I said, my voice cold and sharp. My eyes lingered on his bruised face as I rose from the couch. I stood up with a serious expression on my face, refusing to let even the faintest smile slip through.“What? So you’re

I expect something bigger soon." I stepped into the villa's corridor after our trip to the restaurant. We had stopped to shop, and my heart warmed as I glanced at the bag filled with clothes and shoes for Bea but I won't give her now, it would be a surprise. A smile crept onto my face.We had also picked up Harry's milk and medicines, along with some herbs from the Pack’s farm."Are you sure you don’t want me to take those off your hands?" Gio asked, eyeing the two heavy bags I was carrying. I sighed, glancing at the four bulging bags he carried. “I was going to ask you the same thing.”He nodded squinting his eyes, giving me a side eye as I sneered. So, you're wrong."Harry frowned, his brows knitting together. "Then why did my teacher say that?" he asked."That's exactly why she gave you the assignment," he replied with a small smirk. EVEYLNMy mind raced, desperate for an excuse to leave. I shouldn’t have come here in the first place, and now there were only thirty minutes left until my son’s ritual. Time was slipping away too fast."Your kids… they’re Alpha John’s, aren’t they?" she asked.I froze, my eyes widened as I stared at her, completely shocked by her question. My plate was half empty and suddenly, I had no appetite at all."I knew it," she muttered, spinning her wine before placing the glass down with a quiet clink."So that’s why you joined this pack? To be with John?" she pressed, her gaze locked onto mine."No!" I blurted out, shaking my head. She couldn’t be more wrong. "I didn't join this Pack, like I said earlier...""If John asked you to rejoin this pack, would you?" she asked with a soft voice. but her eyes studied me closely."With all due respect, ma’am, I’ve moved on," I said, keeping my voice as calm as possible. Charles asked as he drank water from the glass cup and yes he was right about it."I'm just trying to help Eveyln" Diane barely looked up as she replied, she was a bit offended with what he said. "Because if she’s surrounded by controversy, it’s going to affect you and your campaign." Her fork clinked softly against her plate.I glanced at Evelyn. She looked tense, her jaw tight, but she kept eating, like she was trying to pretend the conversation wasn’t annoying her."Alright, that's enough," I snapped but in a low voice . "He was asking her, not you."Diane lifted her head, meeting my eyes with a concern laced in her voice. "I’m just worried about my father-in-law. That’s not wrong, is it?" EVEYLN John’s face went stiff the moment he saw her outside. It was obvious he hadn’t expected her to be there. Diane’s eyes found me first then her expression twisted, like she was surprised to see even my figure here since John didn't tell her about my coming to this Pack, before it hardened into anger. Her hands clenched into fists at her sides. She opened her mouth to say something, but before she could, a feminine voice spoke from behind her.“What’s going on out here? Come inside.”A middle-aged woman stepped into view, her diamond earrings catching the light. She had the kind of quiet authority that made it clear she was used to being listened to. Her sharp eyes flicked to Diane, who immediately softened, her expression shifting just enough to look composed.“Yes… Mum,” Diane said, her voice suddenly sweet and controlled. “It’s nothing, really. EVEYLNThe strong, scent of herbs and burning incense filled the air as we stepped into the Pack Witch’s cavern. It was filled with old skulls, bones and oil carrying the echoes of old rituals and quiet prayers to the Moon Goddess. This was a sacred place where sacrifices were made, secrets were shared, and the pack sought guidance from forces beyond our understanding.John and I sat on a long, worn bench, the softness of hare fur beside us. He leaned in and murmured, suggesting we summon her instead. I shook my head, firm. "No, we go to her. That’s how it’s done." As Alpha, he had the power to command otherwise, but tradition still mattered to me, at least. The old woman’s sharp eyes locked onto my son like daggers. He kept his head down, avoiding her stare. I studied their faces carefully, and then it hit me, I recognized one of them. As if sensing it, they all shifted their attention to me, lowering their heads in respect. Not to John, who stood tall beside me, but to me alone."They say they’re from the NightShade Pack, Alpha," one of John’s warriors said, his tone laced with sarcasm, meanwhile John scoffed like he understood what the situation was. Why couldn’t I just tell him the real reason?Beta Andrew reached the top of the stairs and opened the first door. “Here we are,” he said, stepping inside.I followed him in.
