(Asher’s POV)
Baron Constance was known for wearing extravagant outfits and jewelries to show his riches, and he would always style his hair backwards, making him look cunning. The sight of him letting his hair loose and wearing only a simple outfit of white tunic tucked into a pair of black trousers felt very unfamiliar to me.
“I am sorry for looking this slovenly while meeting you.” He bowed.
My eyes twitched. Unless I am blind, I think that simplicity suits him better than any level of extravagance. Just a sight of him looks beautiful.
That idea caused me to think, that the Baron had changed outwardly, which no words could describe how he looks like right now. The only words that I could think of when I see him is...
Strangely, beautiful.
I cleared my throat when I realized that I had stared too much.
“Worry not. It is our fault too for coming so suddenly without any notice. I apologize if we disturb your busy time.”
That was the excuse that we planned to come up with if we were asked, because the original plan is to catch them off guard if they ever planned on doing something suspicious. Though, it seemed like nothing is suspicious so far.
As he stood straight, his amber eyes pierced straight through me. Might be because of the afternoon sun, but they shone brighter than before, as if he had lost all of his uncertainties that had clouded that beautiful eyes of his. How brave of him to stare at a royalty, I don’t dislike it though. After we exchanged introductions, he pardoned himself to sit after us.
“So, may I know the reason of this sudden visit?”
He asked after seated himself on the antique chair across both of us.
“It was for no reason, really. We were just on our way to visit the town up north, so while we’re on it, we might as well visit your town. I heard it’s getting colder these days.” I answered, hoping for him to be baited by my lie.
The Baron suddenly chuckled. “I have to agree with that. Just this morning it was so cold I almost caught a cold. I have to apologize again for making your highness wait as I was asked to consume a medicine for cold by my servants earlier.” He spoke simply and smiled again. I had this feeling that he wasn’t baited to it but he also looked like he don’t mind being lied to.
“I see. Your servants must really loved you.”
The Baron giggled in response, his hands unconsciousfly fiddled which caused me to notice his hands that were put on his crossed legs were trembling.
“Your hands are trembling. Are you alright?”
He looked slightly surprised by my sudden question, but soon realise that his hands were shaking when he looked at them. He clenched his hands into a fist.
“Nothing much. I might have been overworking myself this past few days. After a plentiful rest, I will be fine.”
He smiled again.
“...I see.”
I returned his smile.
I guess something suspicious really had happened, because there is no way a noble could tremble like that if they did not do anything.
After some discussion, we managed to get permission to stay in the Constance household for 3 days in a guise for becoming a temporary staying place for us to return to and fro after surveying the northern territory.
“To be honest, I am really surprised when Baron Constance showed up not wearing extravagant clothes. I thought he would suck up to you earlier. He looks like a different person now.”
Aran spoke out his shock in seeing the different person Baron Constance had became after we were brought to the guest room. I too am shocked by his appearance actually. He looked so humble and kind, that it was hard to discern him with the terrible Baron that I knew.
“Though, he looked slightly pale. Was it the effect of the poison that he consumed?”
I muttered. The poison that Baron Constance consumed to kill himself is by any means lethal and resulted in instant death after consumation. But he managed to withstand the poison even after taking a huge dose of it. Just who actually is Lancelot Ral Constance?
“We only have 3 days to investigate. Use this time wisely.”
I said to Aran.
“Yes, your highness.”
***
(Lancelot’s POV)
That surprised me.
I held my breath while hiding behind my bedroom door after meeting the first prince. Yes, he is the first prince. Asher Sol Tristan, the crown prince of Tristan Kingdom, the capital of this continent. His features were exactly like the novel said. Shining silver eyes and wavy black hair. His tall stature is also as exactly as the novel said.
“Guh....”
He’s so....
...Handsome.
“What am I, a virgin?!!!”
I shouted to myself and started to mourn at the corner of the room. Damn you, virgin old man. Not only you were old, you are also a simp for handsome guys that are your types. But what should I do, the first prince is exactly my type!
I continued to wail. After finally managed to somehow stop myself from swelling my eyes because of too much crying, I called Taylor to meet me.
While waiting, I remembered the prince said something about my hands trembling. Was it because I did too many heavy liftings this past few days?
After I went out to town on the day I reincarnated, I asked Taylor to call out merchants from the Bivorak trading company to sell some items and clothes to them. Luckily, a troop were nearby when I called them so they reached the estate by the next day. And by successfully discussing with them about the prices of the sold items, we managed to obtain 54 million gold!
“There are some rare jewels, flowers and fabrics in the items list, so thats why the price are that high.”
The merchant said while grinning. Then, for the next few days, we helped them haul all the sold items back to their teleportation devices that they set on the middle of the garden. The items will immediately be transferred to the headquarters of the company in capital without having to bring them back manually. Now that’s handy.
Luckily, the process finished right before the day the first prince came. If they saw me hauling things from my mansion they would think I was running away or something.
“You are calling me, Master?”
Taylor called from the outside. “Come in.” I answered and proceed to sit on the bed. After Taylor had came in and closed the door, I immediately asked, “Taylor, do I look pale to you?”
He was startled for a second there, before he answered. “Yes. To be precise, your complexion does’t look too good after you drank that poison.” My eyes twitched. This is the second time I heard about poison, what is it actually?
“That poison?” I reconfirmed.
The butler dithered for a bit. “...Yes, that poison. The Miragela poison.” He informed, though his tone is a mixture between reluctance and worry. At that moment, my heart skipped a beat.
Wait, I am poisoned? Won’t I die because of bleeding due to being stabbed by the first prince? I have reread this novel several times before, did I miss something?
Wait, so does that mean that even if by chance the plot changed and the prince didn’t kill me, I would still die from poison?
My jaw dropped. Whoa, that sucks.
I breathed a chuckle and massaged my head. This is ridiculous and just donwright mean. If the divinity really dislikes me then what’s the point of a reincarnation? “Taylor, does Miragela poison have an antidote?”
“I’m afraid.... not...” Taylor answered hesitantly.
I scoffed.
Right, I am not even surprised anymore by this cliche, shoujo-like setting where the princess would either contact an incurable disease or getting poisoned and as always, in one way or another, there is ALWAYS no cure for them.
I pursed my lips.
I am not even a female though?!
As I raged within myself while silently lamenting, Taylor spoke out of his kindness. “Sire, even if there is no cure, we are still be able to prolong the time before the poison kills you by consuming medicine. Would you like to try it?”
“...How much is my time left?”
Taylor was about to open his mouth when he fell in a daze, as if he just realized something. “Sire, by you not living long, do you mean by death for poisoning?”
The corner of my mouth twitched. I didn’t mean it like that but be it from stabbing or poisoning, won’t either way kills me?
“That... Is probably the cause.”
Taylor gaped.
“But sire-”
“For your information, I won’t take any pills even as preventative measures. That is why, I’ll try my best to search for the antidote and heal myself. But if I failed, well...” I tried to muster a grin. For someone who relied on pills after suffering complications of my lower body surgery, I can say I’m sick of pills, because of that, it’s either to be or not to be now.
“...I’ve worked hard.”
For a moment there, I could see Taylor’s eyes glinted before returning back to his usual color.
“Yes... That’s why I too, will serve you until the end.” The old butler said.
I smiled to him as a response. Really, what did I do to deserve a butler like him?
(Asher’s POV)“I see. Miragela poison, huh? You may leave.” I motioned to the maid who was the spy of the house and she left. Aran was writing something in his other small notebook where he usually kept his research notes.“I believe Miragela poison is incurable and the research to find its cure has been ongoing for years already, yet Baron Constance wants to find the cure in only a month? And without medicine at that? I’m starting to think of him as a suicide maniac.” I voiced my opinions to Aran and he nodded in agreement. “In my opinion also, finding cure for Miragela in a month is impossible. Even if there were a cure for it, it might take a long time to produce it as our researchers had tried almost all of the ingredients that the central continent have.”“Hmm. They might need to go to other continent to find ingredients for the cure. I kinda feel sorry for his fruitless attempt.”Aran chuckled.“Who knows? He is the one who discovers the half part of our rese
(Lancelot’s POV)The night ended and the day comes. Including today, it has been 10 days since I reincarnated into this world. That means I have about 20 days to live if I did nothing to cure the poison inside me. After sending the prince off, I spent more of my time riding my horse and exploring the fief. While I was exploring the farmland, I noticed that most of the dead lands were already buried with the new soil that I have advised the farmers to make. And for some reason, there are more people in the farmland than usual. Are they all of the townsfolk?...No way right?“Right, there is no way they would go all out just to heed this tyrant’s advice.”I nodded, trying to convince myself. When I reached the end of my fief, I realised that the figures that I saw on the first day of my reincarnation weren’t here. Did they perhaps regroup? They never mention anything about Lancelot being guarded by the royalty in the novel so I’m kinda anxious about them. B
(Asher’s POV)“Now he trains swords?” I repeated what Aran had just said to me. Aran nodded his head and continued, “Not only that, but the knights in the household were surprised to see that his sword style also changed.”I raised an eyebrow.“What do you mean by that?”“I mean it as it is. He changed from a dual sword to a one hand sword user.”“I see.”Interesting. Suddenly I feel like having a duel with the Baron to test his strength. I smirked.“And? Anything more?”I asked and Aran’s eye twitched.“Well...”He tried to avoid my gaze. What now? Did she said anything strange in her letter?“In this letter, Maria also stated some weird words at the end of it.”Aran finally spilled it out after I glared at him for a full minute.“Hmm? What is it?”“It said ‘I am master’s family’ something like that.”I looked at him blankly.“Wait, she heard that? I thought the servants were busy with their own shenanigans that night?”Aran shrugged as a response.“She is keen, after all.
(Suna’s POV)I glanced at the person in front of me. When he first entered the room, I could see that he was slightly nervous and also unexpectedly surprised to see me. But it is strange, I’m pretty sure that this is the first time I see Baron Lancelot Ral Constance. After news about his family had passed away and him taking the lead, I became disinterested in him, especially after people said that he is a notorious bastard who used his family’s riches to do whatever he wanted. Though, things started to change about a few weeks ago, when we received announcement from the headquarters of the company to send any merchant who was nearby the town of Isaia, as the Baron of the fief wants to hold business with us. Things get interesting soon after, when the group that went there suddenly requested the opening of the dimensional gate for a few days to haul items that the Baron had sold straight to the HQ. What’s more, the Baron literally sold all the r
(Lancelot’s POV)As I brushed my light brown hair backwards, I stared at myself many times in the mirror. Now that I look closely, I really have reincarnated as Lancelot Ral Constance. A slightly 23 and slender stature, Caucasian skin, with amber eyes and light brown wavy short hair. He has such beautiful features yet not much readers remembered him as he died very early in the novel. I also felt guilty because I too never cared to remember him, especially because he was an evil person, who just does everything that Avery asked him to do. Speaking of Avery, today was the day where I finally was asked to accompany her to the royal ball in the palace to celebrate her engagement with the second prince, Louis Ilya Tristan. That night will also be the moment where I will die, either by the first prince’s hands, or by the poison. I have trained my swordsmanship skills enough already, so maybe the poison will kill me later than usual.“Master, are you ready?”Taylor knock
(Lancelot’s POV)While in the carriage, I was holding onto my sword—that I just bought a few days ago from the same trading company that we sold our items to—with one hand. As I rested myself on the cushion, I glanced outside the window. We were almost halfway to reach the Ronan estate. Somehow, the way to Isaiya is coincidentally the same way to Cecilia’s homeland. That was why Lancelot was able to harass her frequently before. But now that she had transferred to the capital and lived there, Lancelot won’t be able to harass her and she would be safe from him.Though... That is not the problem now...“....Why are you holding onto my hand?”I turned to look at Hans who was sitting on my side while tightly holding my other hand.“Ah! Sorry, do you feel uncomfortable?” He said that, but he still hold on to me. Having Hans holding my hand is nice, but any longer than this would cause me a nosebleed. His hands are obviously bigger than mine, proportional to his big stat
(Lancelot’s POV)I unsheathed my sword and get into my battle stance. 6 empowered intermediate beasts, huh? Luckily I remembered this scene in the novel where Cecilia would be attacked by the beast when she secretly went home to meet her parents. In the original plot, they fought the beasts for too long that the second prince realize her being gone and searched for her. Ultimately, the second prince would also put the blame of releasing the beast to Lancelot when in actuality, it was Avery who had done it. I don’t care much even if the blame were put on me, because I’m gonna die anyways, but if I were to let things be, Cecilia’s close aid, Dante Arville will be rendered disable due to the damage that was caused by the curse on the beasts fang. And in the later half of the novel, Dante somehow became evil and wanted to take the throne of the country....Sounds mad, right? But I forgot to tell you that the main theme for the novel is action before romance, so of cour
(Lancelot’s POV)The evening of the ball quickly came by. While the servants were entering their carriage, I escorted Avery to our respected carriage and we departed. In the carriage, Avery couldn’t seem to take her eyes off of me. I know my fashion changed but could you please not stare daggers at me?“You look exceptionally beautiful tonight.”I began, trying to start a conversation and trying to steer away her gaze from me for a second. Though, she really looked exquisitely beautiful tonight. Her golden hair were braided and red flowers were strewn along the strands of her braids. Her outfit were usually black or red but tonight, she wore a dress with white as its main color while having some golden and red embroideries at some parts. If this was not the night where I would die, I would gladly praise her beauty.Avery fell silent, before answering me as she smiled coldly.“You too look very handsome tonight. Though, I like your old hairstyle better than this one. And I never know t
(Lancelot’s POV)I didn’t know how grateful I was when I opened my eyes to a dimly lit surrounding. Upon longer dithering, I assumed that I was laying down on a bed, and that its barely dawn. I laboriously pulled myself up to sit; wanting to take a proper look at the rising sun, through the glass window across me.“…Lancelot?”I halted, upon hearing a voice to my side.It took me some time to register whose voice it was, but when I turned beside me, I saw a figure towering me. The little sunlight from the rising sun made his raven hair glimmery, and I saw those silver eyes looked directly into mine.“Ash-” I wasn’t able to finish that word, before getting wrapped up in an embrace. That caused me to flinch a bit. In that moment, a distinct amount of warmth usurped within, causing me to blush.Asher…That was the only thing I could think of. I slipped both of my arms behind his back and clung tightly onto him, as I enjoyed the radiating warmth of his body. And as if knowing my intention
Lancelot’s POV“Phew…” I heaved out a long sigh.Never have I ever imagined that I could be bruised and battered even in the land beneath my consciousness. I thought so as I looked at myself. Approximately some time ago, I got stabbed by the original Lancelot, and was fading away quite fast, but somehow my body is okay now and I don’t feel that pain anymore.“But…” I gazed towards my surroundings. There’s nothing but white all around me. And because I’m here, I don’t think my body outside is conscious. Maybe. I did feel like I had almost grasped the string of consciousness within me, but it was only for a brief time, and only happened once in a while. How do I get out from this situation?“So, you’re the one Izana has been talking frequently about.” A voice suddenly appeared, snapping me from my pondering, and rendering me to flinch in surprise.“Wha-”
Asher’s POVI was even more surprised and confused compared to Louis, who was trying to calm her down. The three of us decided to change our spot further away from Lancelot, by sitting on the sofa set nearby. While I turned on the lamp on the coffee table, Louis guided Cecilia to one of the empty spots of the sofa. Cecilia tried to stop her own sobs. Both me and Louis then gazed at her until she had calmed down for the most of it.“…I’m sorry.” Cecilia started, wiping the tears on her cheeks with a handkerchief Louis handed to her. “But you can’t be with the Count, Your Highness. You mustn’t.”I felt the surge of air in my lungs as I rapidly inhaled. Pausing, my slightly parted lips moved as I mouthed, “Why?” In an exasperated breath.Cecilia had her gaze lowered on the ground. Waiting for her answers, I tried to calm the seething annoyance within me. I know Cecilia as someone who doesn’t do something without reason. With that being said, I still couldn’t fathom why she was so against
…A pair of eyes were staring blankly at the marching of the black ants. Some ants greeted the other on its way, but they never really stopped on their tracks to idle about. However, not too far from the corner of those eyes, is a black ant that was standing idly on its feet, while looking up. As if, for some time, it has noticed of the presence of the seemingly alien looking eyes inspecting it from above.Avery smiled. As if satisfied with what she saw, she lifted her gaze. Her eyelids immediately squinted, hiding her irises from the blazing sun above her head. The sun is already high above the sky, and the temperature is rising.Avery then stood up from the ground, a sitting spot that she chose to ease her fatigue from walking for some time. She then quickly readjusted her knee length cloak around her body, before resuming her steps; destination unknown.Even so, once in a while, the flora and fauna witnessed Avery fiddling with the air just above her waist. Her index finger twisting
Asher’s POV My memory—between me preparing to leave the palace to arriving at the Great Kingdom of Sand in the South—was blurry. I heard the tap of my heels on the ground, which instantly brought my senses back to reality. It seems while I was in a daze, I have already arrived. Some attendants were escorting the horses away, while some others tended to me, along with Louis and Cecilia, who decided to tag along with me. “Her Highness is inside the guest room. Please follow us.” An attendant said. The three of us then followed from behind. We walked through a corridor. The subtle orange tinge of the sun ray that lit the marble arched corridor indicates the time. After some time walking, we arrived in front of a shiny two-leaf wooden door. A guard was situated at each leaf of the door. The attendant halted in front of the door. He briefly knocked on the wooden surface, and stepped back again. A soft, incomprehensible voice appeared from the other side of the door, before soon, the gua
Asher’s POV“There has been a report of sightings of several magenta auras located at the border of the kingdom. Albeit unsure of the source, the sentries placed there are alert.” Henry informed, while holding a piece of paper, presumably the report paper. He then sauntered closer and handed me the paper. I accepted the paper and skimmed through it, confirming Henry’s report. A sigh unconsciously escaped my lips. What does Avery want actually? After thinking of several reasons and causes for all the incidents, that occur in only within a day, I reached to that conclusion. What does Avery really want from Lancelot, that she even chased him to the ends of the world? Was the news of his death not enough for her? Was the display of the corpse not enough to make her stop? Then again, Avery was never the one to get attached to Lancelot. If that so, then why does she looked for him, and even proceeded to use a high-level dark magic
Lancelot’s POV“My Lord…” I heard my name being called. I turned behind me to see Taylor standing at a nearby distance, about a few steps away from me.I suddenly came to a realization.Ah, this dream again.I thought, while letting my body move on its own accord. It was one of those flashback dreams again, where I remembered my previous life. Though this time, I became the old Lancelot for the first time ever. How do I know that?“I told you to bring me a fancy attire, not this crappy one!” My hands moved on its own and slammed about three layers of clothing onto poor Taylor. The old butler trembled a bit due to the impact, but quickly picked himself up.I then fumed on my own while Taylor left.“Looking decent is not enough. I need to look even better when meeting my dear Avery! Should I put on more accessories on me?” Lancelot monologued loudly. As Lancelot was standing
LancelotThey probably noticed me freezing on my spot. With a slightly concerned tone, Princess Aisya said, “Are you alright, Count Constance?”I properly but quickly shot up, and met my eyes with her. “I am good. Apologies for making you worry.”The princess smiled. “I see. Thank goodness that you’re finally awake. You have been sleeping for almost two days, me and your friend here are starting to get worried of you.”I nodded my head. Then I dithered for a moment. “…How do you know my name, your highness?”Princess Aisya retained her smile. She then tossed a glance towards Suna beside her. “Master Suna has told me a little bit about you.”I fluttered my eyes. “Do you also call him ‘Master’, Your highness?”“Yes.” Princess Aisya suddenly chuckled, probably noticed my confusion and found it amusing. She then added, “He is
AsherAn hour after the incident, Taylor finally managed to disperse the crowd. While the workers returned to their routine, I asked Izana and the twins to follow me, along with Taylor, for a short discussion. Because of that, the five of us went to Lancelot’s office.“Obviously,” Izana spoke. “Obviously, this is Avery Ila Ronan’s doing. But I don’t remember her magic being this potent, and a teleportation magic like that can only work if one became a high-level mage. But Avery is not a high-level mage.”I heaved a long, low sigh. At the corner of my eyes, I saw Taylor diligently cleaned the room.“Fair enough.” I replied. “Still, there’s nothing that we can do now that both the Count and the Bivorak Company’s master disappeared. What matters the most is finding them, but right now, we don’t have any clue of their whereabouts.” I paused for a bit. “I just hope that n
