Sophia frowned. "The villagers reported it late at night in the rain?"

"Oh, there was more than that. My earring was used as evidence. But I wasn't wearing earrings that night. My ear had been injured so I stopped wearing earrings by then as they kept falling out. I lost that earring a long time ago."

Sophia’s gaze fell on her ear, and she leaned in to take a closer look, "What happened to your ear?"

"The piercing is a bit enlarged, so hooked earrings tend to just slip off."

Sophia’s brow furrowed slightly, a fleeting thought passing through her mind.

However, Phoebe’s next words interrupted her train of thought. "The day I lost my earring was the same day I met Eliza."

"The first time we met, do you remember? At the hospital. Chester dragged me out of th
