As they made their way through the city streets, Kalvin wondered what the evening would bring.
Answers hopefully. He wasn’t one to be so uncertain about things.
Once he was at Aian’s rather poor excuse for an apartment, Kalvin stepped out of the vehicle to make his way to the door. Thumping footsteps answered his knock before the door was thrown wide to reveal a mop of fluffy midnight black hair which curls up at odd angles and a cheeky grin on his freckled face.
“Hi! Um, I just have to grab my shoes,” Aian ducked his head as though suddenly shy. “You can come in for a minute if you want.”
He scampered off and Kalvin cautiously stepped inside. A glance around revealed a rather cramped space filled with things of varying quality and usefulness.
A clothes rack in the corner, photos covering a wall, and knick knacks on the desk. But it pleased him to see the new camera and accessories all unboxed and splayed out across a little coffee table by the scruffy looking couch.
It appeared as though Aian had already started playing with his new toys.
“All right! I’m ready.”
His twin flame wore a dark pair of jeans and a nice shirt, tidying up much better than his rather scruffy appearance yesterday suggested.
He led the way outside, pausing while Aian locked up, before opening the door for him to get into the limo.
The photographer flushed at the door being held open for him and quickly climbed inside.
Aian seemed rather uncomfortable and fidgety until Kalvin got him chattering away about his day after which the grin came back and those emerald eyes sparkled as he exclaimed over the new camera.
The raven head was practically bouncing in his seat by the time they arrived at the restaurant.
Kalvin got to see the return of the adorable little blush after Aian exited the limo and he placed his hand on the small of his back to guide him.
There were a number of people lined up outside, hoping to get a seat at the exclusive restaurant for the night. Eyes turned towards them and many people stared enviously as they skipped the line.
“Pinky? I’ve heard of this place. Isn’t it super hard to get a reservation here?”
“The owner is an old acquaintance of mine,” Kalvin said as he glanced down at the awe-filled face staring at the grand entryway. “She was more than happy to give us a table provided she got to meet you.”
“So, you do have friends.”
“You sound so surprised. She is the widow of one of my subordinates. He died on the clock working for me so I gave her something to throw herself in to before grief took over. I invested in this place, and she’s made quite a name for herself. I hold numerous lunch meetings and functions with big name clients here and in return, she juggles reservations for me should I choose to drop by even for a simple lunch or dinner.”
“What was he doing that he died while working for you?” Aian asked hesitantly.
“Do you really want to know?” gray eyes pierced emerald.
“I… no. Not right now at least,” Aian gave a small, uncomfortable shrug. “I don’t want to ruin the night just because I’m curious.”
Kalvin was unable to reply as a short pink haired woman strode up to them and threw her arms around him. “K!”
Aian looked at them wide eyed.
“And this cute young thing must be your one and only twin flame!” she pulled a very uncomfortable looking Aian into a hug.
She chuckled as she let go. “Ah, I’m sorry, I was raised by a family of huggers and I forget that not everyone is like me! But aren’t you so cute! K, you old pomeranian dog, of course you get such an attractive little cutie as your twin flame.”
Aian seemed unable to do anything but just stared with rounded eyes, but the cute blush was already making a reappearance.
“Aian, this is Nettie Pena, the owner of this fine establishment. Nettie, this is my twin flame, Aian Creeshia.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Ms. Pena.”
“Please, no need to be so formal,” she laughed. “Just call me by my name, please. I’m not a stickler for formality when it comes to friends. Now, I have the perfect table for you both. It’s a lovely warm summer evening and I’m sure you have lots to talk about, so I’ve set up a private little balcony upstairs for you. If you both would follow me.”
Nettie led them up a flight of stairs and through a busy dining hall to a small open door near the back of the room. It opened onto a balcony just like she had said, with a small table for two tucked off to the side, out of sight from the door, that was complete with candles, flowers, and a bottle of champagne sitting in a bucket of ice.
He raised his eyebrows at Nettie in question and she grinned back at him, looking very smug.
A very private, romantic dinner for two.
She certainly outdid herself this time. She helped them both to their seats before pulling out the bottle of champagne and showing it to them.
“Please have this one on the house as a gift from me. Congratulations to you both!” she poured them a glass each and sat the bottle back down in the ice. “When you are ready to order or need anything, just press this button,” she gestured to a small square device with a big button in the middle that was sitting to the side of the table. “And one of my staff will come out to serve you, otherwise they will leave you alone. I know how much you value your privacy, K. Now, please enjoy your evening.”
Nettie gave them both a smile before leaving.
“Uhh…”
Kalvin looked over to see Aian staring wide eyed and blushed at the candles and flowers sitting on the table. He chuckled, earning himself a glare.
“I only asked for a table. Nettie did the rest on her own accord. Just relax and enjoy the meal. I can promise you, the food is exceptional.”
Aian frowned as he looked around. “It’s hard to relax at such a fancy place like this. Well, at least we aren’t sitting out on the main floor, I guess. That would be worse. I just feel so out of place,” he gave an embarrassed shrug.
“I get that this place probably has a lot of meaning for you considering what you said earlier but next time, it doesn’t have to be so expensive. In fact, I would prefer if it wasn’t. You really don’t have to spend so much money on me,” Aian continued.
“And what if I want to?” he asked, curious to see how his stubborn twin flame would respond.
“And if I tell you no?” his twin flame countered, jade eyes glaring at him with fiery defiance.
Now that was a nice expression.
“Money is arbitrary to me. I only want to share nice things with my twin flame. Is that so bad?”
Aian huffed in response. “It is if I don’t want it. You really need to learn that no is no.”
Kalvin made a non- committal sound, and those lovely eyes flashed at him in annoyance.
“Anyway, I wanted to ask… how old are you? I mean, if that’s not rude or anything.”
“Thirty and yourself?”
“Wow, you don’t seem that old. I’m twenty- three. That’s a big age gap.”
Kalvin’s eyebrows shot up at the insinuation. “I’m not old,” he replied, slightly indignant while Aian snickered. “And I’ve seen bigger age gaps. No one cares if it’s your twin flame. Not that you should put stock in what other people think. Now, let’s see about ordering, shall we?”
The evening was pleasant, and contrary to what Aian had said earlier, he did relax once the menu was removed from his hands and he was distracted with the food.
Aian’s eyes went wide at the prices on the menu and he nearly choked on the champagne once he found out how much it was worth but a few well placed questions to get him to talk and the raven head forgot all about it.
He didn’t let himself get quite so distracted with Kalvin’s questions this time and asked several of his own in return.
Kalvin felt more relaxed than he had in a long time and was genuinely intrigued by the young man in front of him.
Just like his memories of the day before, the photographer lit up with excitement, gesturing wildly with his chopsticks while he recounted some crazy tale of him nearly getting caught on a stake out for a dodgy politician.
His laughter was infectious and Kalvin couldn’t help but chuckle at his wild antics. He watched as emotions flickered across Aian’s face as he expressed delight over the food, curiosity over Kalvin himself, and excitement over shared stories.
A contented silence settled over them once the last of the dessert was finished off by an enthusiastic Aian.
“It would make a good picture,” the photographer said, breaking their silence as he stared wistfully out at the lights of the city.
“It would be better from the railing I imagine,” Kalvin replied, gesturing for Aian to take a look and the photographer excused himself to walk over to the railing.
“We aren’t very high up, yet it seems like the rush of the city is just background noise here. The lights are pretty too, they seem very peaceful for a city that doesn’t sleep,” Aian held his hands up in front of his own face, making a rectangle between his fingers as though mimicking looking through his viewfinder.
Kalvin was suddenly struck by how Aian looked, the lights from the city below played across the photographer’s face, framing his wistful smile.
He was moving forward before he even registered that he had stood.
Kalvin reached out and turned Aian around before pressing him back against the railing, trapping him with his body and the cage of his arms.
“Wha-?”
He reached out and trailed his hand across Aian’s freckled cheek and running a thumb over his lips. Wide emerald green eyes stared up at him and he could feel the pulsing heart beat racing under his fingers.
Without thinking, Kalvin leaned down and captured Aian’s lips in a kiss.
The photographer tensed for a moment before he melted against him.
Kalvin wrapped an arm around the small waist and pulled him closer while Aian reached up to wrap his arms around his neck, fingers tangling in his ash blonde hair.
A small teasing bite to his lip and Aian opened his mouth with a small gasp. Tongues tangled, teeth nipping and biting gently, both feeling and tracing each others mouths like you would a painting under your fingertips.
Exquisite.
Kalvin could feel desire welling up and his control was already fraying around the edges with his need to take and possess.
Another small moan rumbled out from Aian’s throat and Kalvin knew.
This was the answer he had been seeking in the dead of night.
Twin Flame.
Mine.
Aian lay curled up in bed, covers pulled up over his head and arms hugging the pillow he had buried his face in.He had thrown himself in to a cold shower and in to the bed as soon as he got home but even that couldn’t erase his chaotic feelings to the memories of that evening. It was just a kiss, damn it. Well, that wasn’t quite right. That was more than just a kiss. No, it was more of a full blown make out session on the balcony and then again in the limo on the way home.Aian was now convinced that the entire reason that man got driven around in a limo was so he could have his hands free for other things.Like molesting little photographers. Not that Kalvin had done anything entirely inappropriate, although he was pretty sure those huge hands had wandered under his clothes at some point as there was no way his shirt got like THAT on its own. After the breathtaking kiss at the balcony of the restaurant, things had gotten awkward or maybe it was just Aian himself because as he stare
It had been just over a week since Aian's fateful encounter with Kalvin. The businessman had taken him out for lunch twice more since then but something was going on as they were interrupted both times and Kalvin was called away.Aian wasn’t sure if his twin flame having to leave hurriedly was a good thing or a bad thing. He enjoyed spending time with Kalvin, which surprised him somewhat, but each time, the businessman had cornered him and kissed him senseless only to have the interruption occur as his hands were moving under his clothing. And that growl.Oh gosh.A deep, rumbling growl of displeasure from Kalvin greeted the interruptions, and the sound sent heat running through him.Aian was torn. He desperately wanted to know what was the dark promise that lurked in those gray eyes. With all the skill Kalvin had shown with a few kisses and touches, Aian was breathless to know more.Yet he was hesitant, as he knew that whatever happened, all he would be able to do is hold on for the
Finally, Aian began to notice familiar surroundings and the GPS showed not much further to go.He was a little nervous, honestly. It felt way too damn early to be introducing Kalvin to his parents, but apparently, everything to do with Kalvin refused to be taken slowly. He felt like he had been thrown into a whirlwind.“I can’t believe we are showing up in this thing,” Aian said yet again with a groan.“I don’t understand why you are so stressed about this. As I’ve said before, don’t put so much stock in what other people think.”“It’s not what other people think, it’s what my parents will think,” he glanced at him and warned. “You better behave.”Kalvin barked out a laugh at that.“Do I get a reward for being good?”Aian looked at him wide eyed and a blush tinting his cheeks.“Hm? Just where did your thoughts go? Your blush gives you away every time.”“It’s only because it’s you asking that… that my mind goes there,” the young man replied with a pout.“Oh? Do I get another confession
They had managed to escape the grandchild onslaught from Chiyo to be home in time for dinner. It was an event that went surprisingly smoothly and Aian was getting suspicious. His mother was normally as bad as Chiyo for embarrassing him and yet there had only been a few teasing remarks. It wasn’t until it was late and everyone was heading to bed that he realized what he had been missing the entire day.“Your bags are in the guest room and I left towels out for you. Make sure to show K where to find everything. Sleep well, both of you!”Guest room?“Wait, Mom!”“It’s fine dear. You’re a big boy and he’s your twin flame.”“But-!”“Good night!” and with that, both of his parents disappeared off into their own room.“What exactly is wrong?” Kalvin asked curiously as the man watched him with raised eyebrows.“We… are sharing a room.”“And? What’s so wrong with that?”Aian wasn’t looking at Kalvin but he could hear that the smirk was back in place. Why didn’t he realize this sooner?“I just…
When Kalvin woke up again some time later, it was to a hand wandering across his skin.Aian was still tucked up against him but one of his small hands gently explored his body. Fingers trailed across his hip and moved to skim over his lower back.Kalvin didn’t move, not wanting to give away that he had woken up just yet. If he could, he would have been purring under the attention. He wondered how long it would take for Aian to notice the effect his attentions were causing. The hand had moved back across his hip and started to map out his abs when the photographer suddenly tensed.Looks like the boy had finally registered what exactly was poking into his side.Aian pulled away from him and he opened his eyes partway to look into wide jade green eyes.“You’re awake!” his twin flame exclaimed, an equal mixture of alarm and mortification.“Mmm. Don’t stop on account of that, I was quite enjoying the attention.”Ah, the blush on those freckled cheeks was back. Kalvin could see the embarra
Up and freshly showered, they both made their way into the kitchen for breakfast.Aian still looked a little flushed from their earlier activities and Kalvin was feeling rather smug. After seeing such delicious reactions, he was even more eager to get his little twin flame into his bed for an uninterrupted evening. There were so many things Kalvin looked forward to experiencing with him to.Aian glanced back at him before they entered the kitchen and Kalvin flashed him a predatory grin. He was rewarded with wide eyes and a deepening of that lovely blush. He didn't think he would ever tire of that expression. Embarrassed and with just a hint of curiosity lurking in those bright green eyes. He brushed past Aian and stepped into the kitchen."Good morning, K! I trust you slept well?""I did actually," he said with a slight smile at Glyniss. "I’m feeling very refreshed this morning."He pulled out a seat at the little table and gave a nod to Milton in greeting. Aian finally shuffled into
They left Aian’s parents’ house late afternoon and were back in the car on the way home, much to Aian’s clear relief.Glyniss had been not so subtly bringing up living together for the rest of the morning and over lunch. Kalvin had to give her credit for persistence.Aian had been hotly denying her at every turn, saying it’s too early to live together and that just because they are twin flames doesn’t mean that they would cohabitate well. While Aian’s father seemed very passive, Glyniss was not afraid to speak her mind or go after what she wanted and Kalvin could see where Aian got his fire from.It seemed like he inherited quite a lot from his mother.Kalvin had thought she would leave the topic alone after their little chat in the kitchen but apparently, she was determined to convince her son to see this her way.The music suddenly muted as a ringtone sounded out through the car. Kalvin frowned as he pressed a button on the steering wheel to answer the call.“You’re on speaker.”“So
The rest of the ride was spent in companionable silence as the music played softly in the background. It was broken only by a short call from the businessman’s secretary informing them about which store to go to.Aian had used the time to think more on what to call Kalvin. He knew what he should call him by but it seemed so at odds to the man and so intimate.Something so short didn’t seem to fit his complex character or proud bearing. He sighed. His thoughts just went around in circles, it was pointless to spend so much time on something so trivial.Unfortunately, what ultimately pulled Aian from his thoughts was them pulling to a stop.“Time to play dress up, Aian,” Kalvin all but purred out. The man was far too keen for this.“We don’t actually need to do this, you know,” Aian grumbled, flustered by the tone of voice but also by the jarring feeling of being pulled abruptly from his thoughts.“I told you, you aren’t going into one of my clubs dressed like that.”“Don’t call it dress
Kalvin’s eyebrows shot up to his hairline and Aian felt his face burn in embarrassment almost at once. “Or not. I mean, if you don’t want to.” “Oh no, since you offered such an intriguing solution, I would love to take you up on the offer,” the older man’s face settled into a very familiar smirk. “But who’s the pervert now, hmm, angel?” Aiangroaned and covered his face with his good arm. His face was still getting redderthat he could feel the burning heat intensifying. “It’s your fault. You made me like this.” Kalvinlaughed at that. “Oh no, I merely brought out your inner desires. But I don’t see why you are getting so embarrassed over this. This is no worse than anything else we have done and YOU were the one to suggest it. I’m not about to laugh at you for your fantasies. I honestly doubt there is anything you would suggest that I wouldn’t do. We are quite matched in that regard.” Aianremoved his arm and stared at Kal
Aianwas ecstatic to be back at the penthouse. Kalvinwould still be around a lot, choosing to spend more time working from home for a few weeks and his security team would be around more to help out physically as well. He was still stuck being wheelchaired around for the next few weeks but at least he wasn’t stuck in a hospital bed. Kalvinwas wheeling him past one of the the spare room when he noticed something familiar through the door from the corner of his eye. “Wait. Hold up, what’s in that room now?” Kalvinstopped in place but didn’t respond. Aiancraned his head around to stare up at his twin flameonly to be met with a blank face. Highly suspicious. “Kal, what’s in that room?” Still no answer. “Wheel me back.” The man seemed to weigh up his options before reluctantly pulling him back so they were beside the door after he asked a second time. Aian
Having been in the hospital for a full seven days, Aianwas itching to leave. Kalvinhad wheeled him outside a few times so he could bask in the fresh air and sunshine but honestly,Aianwanted to go home. It didn’t help that Chadhad been released into Otto’s care yesterday morning, leaving only the three of them in the ward together. Aianwas rightthat sharing the room was so much better than being by himself, though. They had a constant stream of visitors from the security team, both to visit them and to guard the room. He had also met some of Caleb’s and Shawn’s family members, all of whom were surprised to find out who Aianwas. Now he was caught up on all the movies and shows he wanted to watch and had even learneda few new card games as well. But he wassoready to go home. Kalvinsat on a chair beside his bed, reading through a few work documents that Blake
“Hello, Nettie.” “Is that how you greet an old friend, hmm?” she sat down on the chair beside her basket. “Honestly, you haven’t been over to visit for a drink and a chat in ages. I was giving you time to settle down with your little twin flamehaving all your attention but I swear, if he wasn’t your twin flame, he would be your midlife crisis.” “I’m not that old,” Kalvinhuffed out and Aianlooked torn between finding it funny and embarrassing. “If I didn’t know any better, I would dispute that. But it’s not about age, it’s about life experience. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. Hell, I would be behind this relationship all the way, twin flamestatus or not,if it means youget toactually relax and we get to see that you’re a human with feelings. Honestly, I could do with a cute little midlife crisis myself.” She gave a selfdepreciating laugh. “I swear I may as well be married to my restaurant! But you n
Calebstretched. Or at least tried to. He winced as the dull ache sharpened through his body as he moved. His right hand and wrist were encased in a cast and his shoulder was braced as well as possible to stop him from tearing open the bullet wound. The rest of his body ached as though he had been hit by a car, although the force of him hitting the ground wasn’t too far off being the same. He had to admit he was grateful for the Ecliprises-sponsored hospital treatment. Private ward and a room shared just with him and the other two injured guards. On top of that, he had a bed that was actually comfortable and a regular food that was decent. He also had a constant stream of visitors to keep him occupied, his mother with different siblings accompanying her each time and all the security team members had dropped in to say hello and keep them all company. He was surprised when a nurse came in and set up the unmade fourth bed afte
It had been a few days of bleary waking hours and constant naps but Aianwas finally perking up. Unfortunately, with his wakefulness came boredom. He was stuck mostly unable to move and often alone. He thought maybe he could play games on his handheld gaming device but thatalsorequired his left hand. As did trying to hold and navigate on his phone. He had been left with some books but holding them up while trying to turn the pages was awkward and reading on his phone wasn’t much better. He had his headphones on and listened to music but the energetic beat just reinforced how much he wanted to move. And how much he can’t. The worst part was that he could feel The Tug. He had never felt it before but he knew that’s what it was. It was faint, a slight tugging for him to get up and move in a certain direction. He checked on the map on his phone earlier and realizedthat it pointed to Ecliprises. H
Kalvinthanked Blakeas the man handed over a takeaway cup of coffee. He wasn’t sure how many hours he had been sitting in the hospital waiting room but a glance outside the windows showed a faint grey tint to the sky. Morning was on its way. He watched as his secretary handed out cups to the other occupants of the waiting room. Dalesat on his right and Glyniss, Aian’s mom, face pale and drawn, was on his left. A few chairs down sat Caleb’s mother and one of his younger sisters, beside them sat Shawn’s father. Chad’s emergency contact had turned out to be a friend that advised they would pass on a message to his family but had told Blakethat they most likely wouldn’t come, even if he died. Kalvinwasn’t one to pry into the private lives of his subordinates but he found something sad in such a capable and loyal young man being so estranged from his family. Some of themembers of Team Creeshiaalso sat around the roo
Agony pulled him back into awareness and Aiangroggily raised his head to look around. Neviseemed content to let him regain his bearings as he crouched in front of him with a knifeglinting in the light of the room. His eyes zeroed in on the gleaming blade and the insane man chuckled at his reaction. “I told youthat you owe me some fun for making me wait. I’m glad that you are able to stay awake for this. Its far more entertaining this way.” Nevi brought up the knife and set it against Aian’s freckled cheek. He flinched at the feeling of the cold blade digging into his skin but otherwise didn’t move. Closing his eyes, Aianbit the inside of his lip as the blade was pushed in further and dragged across his skin, slicing it open. It wasn’t a deep cut, but enough that he could feel the warm wetness of his own blood oozing out and trailing down his face. The knife was pulled away from his cheek an
The rest of the trip to wherever they were going was quiet. Neviseemed lost in his own thoughts so Aianused the time to gauge his injuries. His right arm was handcuffed to the seatbelt and other than some tenderness, it appeared to be okay. His left arm wasn’t so fortunate, though. It was clearly broken, part of his arm hanging limp at an unnatural angle. The break was in his forearm, a bit before his elbow. He must have landed on that arm during his fall. It hurt like hell. The pain radiated out from the break and seemed to crawl up his arm. Every bump in the road speared new pain through him in an agonizingjolt that had his eyes watering and he bit his lip to stop from crying outloud. Not the time to be a wuss about things now. Aianwas dizzy and could barely feel the rest of his body. He wondered if he had hit his head during the fall too. He must have, surely. Especially considering he blacked out
