Vincent pov
This woman, she is impossible. Sure, some of her ideas about nicknames were both offensive and hilarious, but for the most part, they were impossible to digest. I told her not to play games around me because I take no responsibility for Damian's actions, but she does everything to throw him another challenge. The words he hurled at her excited us both. Something about this human invites us to get a taste of her, but we both know how wrong that'd be.
I tower over her and close my eyes as I fight my wolf. He wants to get out and show her who's in control, but I can't let him."If I see you near that damn window again, I'll throw your ass in the cells and leave you to rot among the fucking rogues. Think twice about your next escape attempt because I'm not going to treat you like a child. You are a grown woman, so act like one, damn it!" In the heat of the moment, I punch the wall right next to her head. I don't bother to stay around and lEnya povHe left, not even bothering to take off the handcuffs. I want to get out of here, but to do that, I have to come up with a plan to stay two steps ahead of him. This man, Vincent, is impossible. It's like he can sense when I'm up to something.I sit down on his bed, suppressing the fear that creeps up on me. He could come back at any moment, but I have made myself comfortable in his bed. Besides, my hands are cuffed, and technically it would be challenging to fight back if he attacked. I have no weapons and no advantages on my side. To win, I must first earn his trust. Only then can I strike when he least expects me to try to escape. I wonder how my father is and if his health has deteriorated due to stress. I'm sure they'll come after me; the tattoo I got guarantees me their utmost loyalty. If someone from the Alliance was captured by the w
Enya povWhen I open my eyes, all I see is complete darkness. The stench of rotting flesh and fresh blood rises to my nostrils. The place reminds me of Aaron's playroom, as he calls it. The guy is a complete maniac; inflicting pain and experimenting on living subjects is his favourite hobby. When he joined the Alliance, no one took him seriously until the leaders discovered his mild obsession with rotting flesh. Since then, he's been the go-to guy when it comes to torture- I have seen shifters of all ages survive up to ninety days in his chambers. The result was always the same at the end of the day- the hunters carried out a pile of corpses.A slight smile spreads across my lips as I think of our memories together at Alliance headquarters. Maniac or not, Aaron is a fun guy, and at one point, my father t
Enya pov"Well, that's a wonderful son you got there. Not that I am Vince's biggest fan, but I am sure there are enough people, I mean dogs, who would disagree with me." I chuckle. A moment ago, I was having fun with the conversation, but just the thought of the two of them being related threw me off. What if the old man is a spy and he's just trying to get information from me? Before he can say a word, I lie down on the ground and wrap my arms around myself. "Don't mind me; I am going to take a quick nap. Wake me up when they bring food, water, or whips."The old man chortles. I can imagine him shaking his head in denial. "They won't torture you, kid. You can think a lot of bad things about us, but we aren't the bad guys." Yeah, like I'd ever believe one of the monsters pretending to be a good person. The fairytales weren't as sweet and bea
Enya povI let his words sink in. Honestly, I didn't expect his side of the story to be so heartbreaking. No, I don't feel sorry for him, but looking at his experience as a stranger, it does sound pretty sad. I thought his son literally threw him here to get the title, but apparently, nothing is what it might seem. But what was I expecting? That I would know everything? Surely that can't happen, even if it was my greatest wish. I am stuck in a pack of wolf shifters; there's more to everything than meets the eye. I swear, sometimes I am so naive it makes me sick. The old man brings me back to reality as his voice sounds closer to me. He's probably standing near the metal bars that separate our cells. "Since you are so silent, I assume you have no comments or questions. I'm pretty much done with my story, so how about you tell me yours?"
Vincent povI laugh so hard my eyes water. I haven't heard anything so ridiculous and stupid in a long time. The last time someone made me laugh like that was in high school. But the look on my Beta's face can only mean how serious his question was. I wipe away my tears and straighten my posture. Like a kid trying to look serious, I clear my throat a few times before speaking up. "That was a great joke, my friend, but warn me next time before you try to say something so absurd. One of these days, I might choke on a piece of food and die. Do you want it?" I raise an eyebrow at him."You are an asshole, Vince." Ares crosses his arms in front of his chest and frowns. I have never understood anyone who can freely express themselves yet won't allow the same luxury to others.
Vincent povAs I approach the cells, I don't bother to turn on the lights. We only use them when someone brings food or water to the prisoners. My father has all the extras in his cell, but I assume they are talking since I don't see a spot of light. He never uses the light when anyone else is in the cell- it's his way of showing what he calls respect. Just as I expected, she talks to him. I hear his voice. “We're not the bad guys here, but as sad as it is to admit- it seems you are the real monster here."The only problem is that I must have arrived near the end of their discussion, and my father will notice my presence. So, instead of trying to be smarter, I clear my throat and speak up. "Don't waste your breath on a lost cause, dad. She's not worth it." When I get close enough, I lean against the door of his cell. The
Dirk pov"Perimeter clear, no sign of intruders," I hear the guard's voice over the radio. After the alarm went off, I dispatched one of our best teams, but it's been hours, and they still haven't figured out what triggered the alarm. Now that my daughter isn't here, the loyalty of Alliance members is starting to crumble. Many new members are refusing to follow orders since she was taken away right in front of them. Not to mention the rumour of Enya's death making the rounds. They can talk their heads off, but I am confident my daughter is alive. I raised her to be a warrior, a weapon that can't be destroyed. I'm sure she's alive, trying to break free or waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Just a bit of time, then I will come for her- no monster will keep me from my child.I sigh and press
Enya povI bite my lower lip. Maybe, just maybe, it's not a good idea to address a crazy-ass wolf by a short name, especially when he's leading a whole pack of monsters. The awkward pause makes everything worse, and only his father, who clears his throat, doesn't seem to be bothered. I close my eyes and lean my head against the cold wall. Whatever is to come- that's on me."Son, may I say something?" I hear the old man's voice, but part of me wants to ignore anything they might discuss. The other part, however, wants to be curious and keep listening. It's a difficult decision to make."Sure, dad," the monster doesn't sound angry. Is it possible that his father is the only person he can't feel anger towards? But then again, I get it. I couldn't be angry at my father if he tried to kill me. T
ENYAA week ago we got married. I didn't wear the traditional white dress. Instead, one of the Omegas made a beautiful fire pattern dress for me to pay my respects to my father and his tribe. There were too many people around for us to end the evening on a somewhat quiet note. His father walked me down the aisle, Aros was Vince's best man, and my mother helped Brent care for their newborn daughter. My little girl was given the honour of being the flower girl. Yes, we chose to adopt- the child that grew closest to me. We adopted Bella, and since that day, we have been an official family. I think it all worked out for the best- all three of us were robbed of family and found each other when we needed it most.Vince and I decided we don't need a honeymoon- our
Enya povIf it hadn't been for that lovely lady, I wouldn't have been able to accept the news as fast as I did. Everything the pack doctor told me felt like a punch below the belt. Still, I'm glad she told me the truth and offered to tell me more about the history of werewolves. If Mother Nature decided I couldn't have children, so be it.The only person I'm really worried about is Vince. He was at the hospital and stormed off as soon as the doctor told him everything. It's been hours since Aros tried to mind-link him and about thirty minutes since Aros left the packhouse. I hope he finds him as soon as possible and drags this stubborn man home. Vince needs to sit down with me and talk. And while I know the news hurts him- there are some things in life we can't change. And this, unfortunately, is one of them.
Vincent povI'm lost.So fucking desperate for an answer. Or at least for someone to jump around the corner with a camera in hand, yelling "jokes on you".I've been wandering the woods for hours. I don't have it in me to go back to Enya and break her beyond repair. Although she dreaded the possibility of pregnancy, I know she wanted to be a mother later. Neither of us ever had a real family, and now we have no chance to start our own.I hoped that getting some fresh air would help me think, but it doesn't. All I can picture is the pain in her eyes when she encounters a pregnant pack member or one of those kids. Enya is stuck in a place that will constantly remind her of everything she will never have.
Vincent pov Before I leave Enya in the bedroom, I check her forehead to make sure she doesn't have a fever. The fact that she has heat after such a short period of time from the previous one is strange. I have many responsibilities, and I should discuss a few things with Melinda, but instead of getting to work, I take a detour to the hospital. As soon as I open the door, I see a bunch of nurses. They all stop and wait for me to acknowledge them, but I won't. Not because I don't respect them, but these women gave away their plan without thinking that I might hear these rumours. The nurses and some Omegas decided to find out how loyal I am to my mate and basically tried to set up their Luna. I'll deal with them later, now- I'm a man on a mission. I walk past the nur
Enya povI'm speechless. As I stare back at those pitch-black eyes, I forget how to breathe. I notice a shift between the colours in his eyes-Vince is fighting back, but I doubt his wolf will let him have the upper hand. Now that the beast has the upper hand, he'll use it for the alone time he's been trying to get for so long.Damian reaches for the faucet and turns off the water. I don't expect much from a wolf; he's supposed to run on all fours and be an animal, but to my surprise, he acts kind of human. He steps out of the shower, holds my hand as I follow, and reaches for a towel. Though I assume he'd need it, Damian wraps it around my body and grabs another to dry me off."Mate can't walk wet, will catch a cold." He mumbles to himself once again, surprising me so much that I can't beli
Enya povHer words make sense, so do her intentions, but deep down, I'm hurt beyond repair. All my life, I've been nothing more than a puppet in someone's hands, and it was foolish of me to think that would stop. It wouldn't. Sooner or later, someone would find a way to use me as they pleased. The same as my newfound mother did.She can tell me she had only good intentions, but I heard what she said. I heard her claim that she wanted to hear those screams. To me, it sounds more like she desired revenge more than anything else. Maybe we'll get closer and learn to understand each other after a while, but I need time to get there."Vince, can you please walk me to the bedroom? I need some alone time," I don't look at my
Vincent povI accompany Melinda to the kitchen and show her where she can find anything to her liking. Like her daughter, she complains that she is allergic to basil, which makes sense. However, a few details confuse me, and I hope Melinda has the answers I'm seeking. "Melinda, can I ask you a few questions?" I turn to her, but I see half of her body peeking out from behind the refrigerator door. She closes the door and grins at me. Melinda's mouth is covered in frosting. Yeah, a true lady there. I roll my eyes, and my attitude doesn't go unnoticed. "Sure thing, Pussysaurus-Rex." She bursts out laughing. "Sorry, I couldn't resist the temptation to use that brilliant nickname. And don't look at me like that; I've been complaining about being hungry for weeks- my prayers have be
Enya povMy hands tremble, my grip on Vince's hand tightens to the point where I feel him flinch in surprise. But a moment later, I push my mate away from me and free myself from his grip. Step by step, I move closer to his cell. Though Vince is doing his best to hold me back, there will be no end to the suffering of those who hurt me. Starting with the man who pretended to be my father."Vince, Melinda," I whisper, but apparently, I'm loud enough to get their attention. I can't look at my mother, nor can I address her as such. I have no right to do so- I killed the man she loved, I slaughtered my own father and spilt his blood like a pig. If anything, I have no right to be near her, so I cast my gaze to the dirty floor. "I need you both out of here. Please," my voice breaks and tears run down my cheeks as memories flood my mind. Both of the
Vincent povMelinda hasn't changed a bit. She's still the same loving and bubbly personality I remember her to be.On our way to the packhouse, I keep throwing glances at Enya. She's visibly anxious, and while her mother keeps asking questions, the only moment my mate speaks up is to answer a question. She doesn't ask her own questions, though I know she has many. Perhaps in time, I'm sure Enya needs a moment or two to get used to the situation. After all, it's not every day that your dead mother comes back to life and appears in front of you. I couldn't blame Enya because I would react the same way. After a moment of awkward silence, Melinda turns her attention to me. "Vincent, how is your father? It's been a while since I last met Roma. Oh, and I'm sorry about your ste
